THE Match Report: Middlesbrough 2 - 0 Charlton
2006-12-24 21:40:01 I really don't know what to think, I have been a fan for most of my 18 year life and I have been visiting The Valley regularly for around 5 years. Now is the time I come to think "Why didn't I support Man U?". Well thats a stupid thing to say as I love Charlton and I will always support that, something I never want to change, but recently myself and many other fans have been so low. Why? You may ask.Well this is because it looks as if we are on the brink of relegation, we have been knocked out in the Quarter Final of a cup we realistically had a chance of winning, by a team 3 leagues below us, and we have just signed a manager on a [3 year deal] who has had a worse record than Iain Dowie since taking over. What a Merry Christmas we are having.Today we lost again to Middle sbrough , in the stadium where 5,250 fans saw The Addicks knocked out of the FA Cup in the Quarters last April. This time, it was a 2-0 loss. I really am not looking forward to going to The Valley in 4 days to proba... More About: Report , Port , Match
THE Big News: Reed Leaves, Pardew Returns
2006-12-24 21:40:01 Former Addick Alan Pardew has tonight been given the managers job at The Valley. Its is understood that Les Reed left the club by mutual consent. Not much else is known but the club is holding a press conference on Boxing Day giving more information.A sad situation for Reed, but we need a fresh start. I do feel sorry for him as it seems Les had no choice to become the successor to Iain Dowie, and he gave it his best shot, but all of his Coaching Badges didnt mean anything as experience was what was needed. His only win was against Blackburn, and I do wish him well. Now lets enjoy Christmas, Pardew is the man we need to save us!James - Staff Writer More About: News , Leave , Return , Big News
THE Big Mistake: Charlton 0 - 1 Wycombe
2006-12-21 03:36:06 Carling Cup Quarter FinalWhen this match was first drawn, many Addicks fans thought that we had a strong chance to progress to the Semi's and maybe further. I was the same, but deep down I knew it wouldn't be this way. But we needed a catalyst to really try and get some motivation within the squad and this seemed to be a perfect chance to gain that.Wycombe Wanderers, an average League 2 side, made the trip South of the Thames with 4,250 fans and they were enjoying every minute. But a rendition of Valley Floyd Road by bagpipes before the match seemed to drown them out a bit.We seemed to start ok, but let that go to pot. From about 15 minutes onwards, Wycombe looked like they would score at every chance and on the 35th minute, Jermaine Easter did just that, putting the Chairboys 1-0 up. It was the sounds of "You're Not Fit To Wear The Shirt" and heartfelt BOO's that would have brought shivers to the players when they left the pitch at half time, and they deserved it.Passes were no... THE Old Gaffer
2006-12-14 03:30:07 As you probably have heard by now, former gaffer Alan Curbishley has been appointed the new manager of West Ham United. Former coach Mervyn Day has been appointed Assistant Manager as well. Now this will be an interesting appointment as Alan has a challenge to get the Hammers out of a similar position to ourselves - in the zone! Also it has been rumoured that Curb's first transfer target in January will be for Darren Bent. If he goes, which I think will be likely, I really have no hope in hell of us staying up in the premiership.Good Luck to ya CurbsJames - Staff Writer More About: The O
THE Match Report: Charlton 1 - 0 Blackburn!!!!!
2006-12-07 15:26:02 "WE ARE STAYING UP SAID WE ARE STAYING UP" were the chants of the North Stand Faithful minutes after Talal El Karkouri scored the goal that lifted us off the bottom of the table and maybe the goal that turns our season around. We definately deserved the win as we were the better team. I noticed, from behind by drum, that there was a sense of elecricity from the fans tonight. It may be because it was a night match but one of the longest ever C-A-F-C chants happened at the beginning of the first and second halves. It was great. We came close a couple of times in the first with Lloyd Sam (making his full Premiership debut) coming the closest. But if it were not for the expert skills of Scott Carson, we wouldn't have come away winners. he made some point blank saves which Black burn really should have scored. But right from the beginning of the second, Charlton came close again with a great one-two from Lloyd Sam into the box, just missing Darren Bent.It looked as if it would be a dissapoi... 2006-12-02 15:22:01 I always love away trips, the journey to Read ing wasn't too bad for me as I live close. But I have no idea why I made that journey, because I would return 4 hours later speechless and wondering why I wasted my time, as well as many other fans were thinking. There really is nothing to say, we were the laughing stock of Berkshire that day, and now I am really worried about what this season will turn out to be!James - Staff writer More About: Report , Port , Match
THE New Manager
2006-12-02 15:22:01 Yes, Assistant Head Coach to Iain Dowie, Les Reed, has been promoted to head coach, not temporarily, but on a permanent basis. Now this came of a shock as I wouldn't think he would have had enough experience to manage at the highest level. But we have to give him a chance, so good luck Les.James - Staff Writer More About: Manager , The N , Mana , Manage , Ager
THE Match Report: Newcastle Utd 0 - 0 Charlton
2006-12-02 15:22:01 Another match, another point, at least not a defeat. After Wednesday night's victory over Bolton, a lot of us Addicks were hopeful that we may be able to pick up pace and get ourselves out of the relegation zone. But that was not to be, Newcastle were all over us in the first half, a match which was televised on Prem Plus - and definately not worth the 8 quid - but a couple of chances did not result in anything for us.We seemed to pick it up in the second half with Dennis Rommedahl and Darren Bent with near misses, but unfortunately we could get anything from the game, which ended 0-0. This really is getting worrying now.James - Staff Writer More About: Report , Port , Castle , Cast
Writers View: Is there something wrong?
2006-12-02 15:22:01 Well is there? From my view in the Lower North what came to my eyes and attention was how good the build up play was, but then the final ball being relatively poor! Also coming to my attention were the players lack of confidence to shoot at goal. True, in the first half Andy Reid hit a ferocious shot which forced a good save, but in the second half Reidy often had the ball in a better and more central area. But then he seemed to get nervous and then just pass it sideways!I don't exactly know what this means. Maybe the press talk is true. Is there a rift in the dressing room? Maybe the players aren't being trained properly? Although I highly doubt the latter. However there is one thing for sure....Something isn't right within Charlton Atheltic FC!George - Staff Write r More About: Methi , Writers , View , Here
THE Match Report: Charlton 0 - 0 Watford
2006-12-02 15:22:01 What the heck is going on!? A match where we, as a so called established Premiership side, should definately win proved a much tougher challenge than it necessarily needed to be.We started the match well with a 4-4-1-1 formation, with Jerome Thomas starting his first competitive match since returning from injury which was promising, and almost straight away, Dennis Rommedahl had a clear path at goal but decided to take it inside and then have his shot blocked. Andy Reid looked promising with a great shot and a free kick but the deadlock was still not broken at the break.Again in the second, we had dominance, but Watford missed a sitter which clearly could have won the match. There really isn't much else to say about the match. Chris Powell got a great reception when he entered the field of play with 5 minutes to go.One great thing about Chrissy is that he obviously keeps Charlton's faithful close to his heart. As usual he was the last player to leave the Valley pitch, cue the "ooo... More About: Ford , Report , Port , Match
THE Match Report: Fulham 2 - 1 Charlton
2006-12-02 15:22:01 We're back and running at TalkCAFC but lets see what has happened while we've been offline. Well nothing much except that we're 20th in the league with only one win. Tragic. But anyway tonights match was one I was looking forward to for a long time, well ever since I got a job where I have to work most Saturdays, a Monday night match (a London Derby) seemed perfect to me.Entering the seating area and seeing Fulham 's flash new LCD advertising boards (why do they need them?!) the adrenaline started pumping, the players out on the pitch and the match about to begin. The first half was mainly Charlton, with Andy Reid going ever so close, and Rommedahl just shooting over the bar. Despite not having a goal advantage, we surely had a mental advantage over the home side going into the break. Our run seemed to continue in the first 10 or so minutes in the second, and then the point of the match that changed the game happened. Cue Claus Jensen, the player that left The Valley for Craven Cot... More About: Report , Port , Match , Repo

THE Big Story: Dowie and out
2006-12-02 02:11:10 Thats it, after much speculation, the Iain Dowie era of Charlton Athletic is over. Not much is known about the leaving of the ex-Palarse gaffer, but it seems that he has been sacked by the club, from reading various stories on the internet. I think it is the wrong decision by the board - if it was a sacking - but I do think that maybe it could work well.It looks as if Alex McLeish is the favourite of taking over, after early claims that Alan Curbishley was set to return - which were quickly dismissed by the long serving ex-Addicks manager. We will bring you more info when we hear it.James - Staff Writer More About: Story , Stor , The Big Story , Tory

THE Match Report: Chesterfield 3 - 3 Charlton
2006-12-02 02:11:10 Carling Cup Round 4Charlton win 4-3 on penaltiesThank god, thank god! We have made history by reaching the Quarter Finals of the League cup for the first time, but we took our time. The match, away at Chest erfield, had a bumpy start for the Addicks after the home side went in fron after 3 minute - oops. But none other than Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink equalled the game on the 40th minute. The second half had another bad start after the home side once again went ahead but this time Darren Bent equalised with around 20 minutes to go.So the game headed into extra time, with the Addicks seeming to be on top, Hasselbaink decided to go it alone and put us 3-2 in the lead. But in typical Charlton style, with 20 SECONDS to go, Chesterfield scored an equaliser to take it into penalties.Fortunately for us, we came through it with Carson saving two, but Hasselbaink did miss his penalty. So quarter finals, we reached them in the FA cup last year, and with Southend beating Man Utd tonight, we really co... THE Match Report: Charlton 1 - 0 Bolton
2006-12-02 02:11:10 Carling Cup Round 3Oh my god, we actually won! we actually defied the odds, resisted pressure and beat Bolt on. Now why can we only beat Bolton in competitive matches this season! Can we play them every week! Now it is hard for me to write a match report solely on the views of pundits on Sky Sports News but from the impression they gave, Bolton were unlucky not to get anything from the match. But that is not the point, a Marcus Bent headed goal in the 17th minute was the difference between the two sides, and what a difference that made to all supporters of CAFC.Not only are we still in the cup in which we have the biggest chance to win, we also have possibly turned a corner and can hopefully put our bad sgtart behind us. It is morale lifting not for just us, but also the players. The smiles on their faces at the final whistle was priceless, but from the sounds of things the fans went to hell and back while watching. One unfortunate thing is that JT was stretchered off after a collision... Bolanos no more
2006-12-02 02:11:10 So Immagrants and Asylum seekers get in all the time, but a young lad going by the name of Christian Bola nos has been rejected a work permit by the Home Office meaning that we have lost a prospect on a loan deal and would have to wait until this time next year for any chance of signing him. For the deal to fall through at this time is really frustrating as Bolanos made The Valley gasp at his attacking style of skilful play, when he was on trial, during the pre-season friendly against New Zeleand. This made many people want him to become a permanent fixture in SE7 and this looked likely when Dowie signed him on a years loan with an option to sign. Now we might miss out on him all together. We are only allowed to apply once a year, so who knows, in a years time if he continues to impress, the Man Utds and Chelseas of this world may be sniffing around. In other news, Charlton have boosted their squad ahead of the August transfer deadline with the recruitment of yet another international... Diawara set for Charlton
2006-12-02 02:11:10 According to Skysports.com, Char lton are on the verge of signing of Senegal defender Souleymane Diawara.Ian Dowie is keen on strengthening the squad after a less than impressive first few matches and sees the signing of a new defender as the perfect opportunity to sort out the number of goals we concede. Diawara has been long linked with a move to England and Charlton were carefully watching developments at Sochaux ready to pounce on the chance to lure him to the Valley, and it worked. Both clubs have agreed a fee for the towering defender and a three year contract deal has already been negotiated by the club, having already passed his medical it is only a matter of completing the necessary formalities before Diawara becomes the latest addition to The Addicks. This move is, personally, a welcome one in my eyes and is certainly a step in the right direction to securing a top 10 position. THE Match Report: Charlton 1 - 1 Everton
More articles from this author:2006-12-02 02:11:10 A strong point for us was the result in this match, when really we could have taken all three.Charlton were poor in the first half but Ever ton never really took advantage of the situation, so the sides went in all square at half time. But after the break, this was soon to change as an Everton free kick resulted in a Hermann Hreidarsson own goal when it was whipped into the box. Unfortunate, but this is when all Charlton fans thought "here we go again".Rommedahl and Reid were having a great game, and eventually after the gaffer subbed off a dissapointing Ambrose for Marcus Bent, the latter scored a scorcher. Bent talked the defender which layed it into the path of Reid who whacked it into the back of the net. From this point onwards we were all over Everton and really should have taken 3 points. But this was an improvement after last weeks hilarities!James - Staff Writer More About: Report , Port , Match 1, 2 |
