Kidd Trade on Hold
2008-02-14 18:38:00
Thanks to the contract of Dallas Mavs' player Devean George, the Jason Kidd trade has been put on hold. George blocked the trade by saying he did not want to give up his "early Bird rights", which is a provision he earned by being in his second year and on a second contract with the Mavs.According to the Associated Press:Under the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, a player who has "early Bird rights" at the end of a contract - like George has this year - has veto power over a trade because he'd lose those rights if dealt. By keeping them, Dallas could exceed the salary cap to re-sign him."We're not trying to hold things up or be difficult, but just like teams make tough decisions all the time - about cutting players or making trades - they do what's best for their team, and it's my obligation to do what's best for Devean," his agent, Mark Bartelstein, said Wednesday night."You don't want to stop teams from doing their business, but we don't feel like it makes sense at...

J-Kidd Returns to Dallas
2008-02-14 00:41:00
Call it a come back. According to ESPN.com, the Jason Kidd trade is a done deal. Kidd will be moving back to Dallas where he began his career, and the Nets will acquire Jerry Stackhouse with Devin Harris."Dallas is sending 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, veteran swingman Jerry Stackhouse, the expiring contracts of center DeSagana Diop and swingman Devean George and guard Maurice Ager to New Jersey for Kidd and forward Malik Allen.Sources say Dallas will also send the Nets the league-maximum $3 million, the Mavs' first-round draft pick this June and a first-rounder in 2010."(SOURCE: ESPN.com)So now the Mavs improve with the services of J-Kidd, who is coming full circle. Kidd will definitely help Dirk and Josh Howard compete for a title with the West's elite teams, such as the Lakers and Suns who both made big moves.Read the full ESPN.com story here.Get your favorite NBA Player or Team Wallpaper for your cellphone!
Finances Choking Sprewell?
2008-02-12 08:04:00
Former Golden State Warrior and New York Knick, Latrell Sprewell seems to be feeling the effects of the recession. The former all-star, famous for choking his coach PJ Carlesimo is facing foreclosure of his $405,000 home in Milwaukee's River Hill suburbs. According to USA Today:"RBS Citizens NA, or Citizens Bank, filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills in 1994.In court documents, the bank said Sprewell owed $295,138 in outstanding payments plus interest.Sprewell failed to make his mortgage payments of $2,593 per month from September 2007 to January 2008, the documents said. The Associated Press tried to reach Sprewell for comment Monday but a telephone number in his name was disconnected. A message to one of his attorneys, Robert A. Gist of Atlanta, and an agency in New York were not immediately returned."Sprewell's 70 foot yacht, named "Milwaukee's Best" was sold at auction for $856,000 d...

The West is Making Moves
2008-02-09 15:25:00
Not Jerry West , but the Western Conference. It's just becoming painfully apparent that the Western teams of the NBA want to improve and want to win. It seems as if the Eastern teams with the exception of 2 teams that made moves this offseason (Orlando & Boston), do not want to win for now.I wouldn't be surprised to see Jason Kidd wind up in Dallas before February 21st's trade deadline. The Mavs are looking to improve upon their team and that surely would help a lot. Nothing against their current guards, but adding a court visionary and leader like J Kidd will absolutely improve their offensive flow. Dallas is already known as a relatively high scoring and uptempo team, and having Kidd with Dirk would be akin to having Nash with Nowitski. Great point guard, great front court player. It's a winning formula that could push them past the Suns or Spurs. Ron Artest may also be dealt from Sacramento. It would not be surprising if he went to yet another team out West.Looking at...

Better Deal: Heat or Suns?
2008-02-07 16:01:00
Phoenix Suns coach Mike D'Antoni was interviewed via phone on the Mike & Mile show for ESPN2. The Phoenix head coach spoke about the excitement of now having Shaq in their system and the doubts over Shaq's ability to play well at his current age. He stated Shaq will definitely be of help and he is anxious to play along with Nash, Stoudamire, Raja bell and others. The lingering question seems to be over Shaq's ability to contribute. Shaq's averaged 19.6 and 9.1 boards from 2004 to present with the Heat , which are almost 10 points and 2 rebounds below his averages with LA and Orlando. Other notable centers like Hakeem, Alonzo and Dikembe continued to move from team to team late in their career. Mourning even achieved a title (in Shaq's shadow). The question remains who got the better deal here, Phoenix or Miami? Miami is clearly going into rebuild mode. It's hard to argue that Shawn Marion and D-Wade will be able to turn this into a title team. So most likely, D-Wade is g...

Shaq Headed to Phoenix?
2008-02-06 13:29:00
If ya can't stand the Heat, get the Shaq out the kitchen...According to a report by Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, Shaquille O'Neal may be on the move, heading to the Phoenix Suns:O'Neal was planning to be in Phoenix on Wednesday, which, according to several reports, is when the Suns plan to have him take a physical - presumably the final roadblock before the deal that will send Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks to Miami gets finalized. The Miami Herald reported earlier Tuesday that the Heat were in "serious and ongoing" trade negotiations with the Suns, and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said the deal could occur "within 48 hours." The Arizona Republic also reported a deal could be imminent and that O'Neal had contacted some Suns players Tuesday night. A Heat spokesman said the team had no comment, and several Suns officials didn't immediately return phone calls from the AP. The Suns did, however, push their morning shootaround practice back seven hours, perhaps because of ...

Reasons to Love the NBA!
2008-02-05 12:51:00
Last night's NBA schedule featured returning superstars, quite a few sick plays, amazing stats and of course plenty of great NBA action. There's nothin but love from around the NBA...TJ Ford returned from his second neck injury. He's been away for quite a bit after that nasty fall he took on the layup against the Hawks. Despite coming off the bench and only scoring 4 points, Ford's Raptors beat the Heat. TJ also had a great highlight with a baseline drive and dunk. Raptors win 114-82.Corey Maggette and Chris Kaman both returned from cases of the flu to help the Clippers bring the Knicks down with the sickness, 103-94.Allen Iverson had two top 10 shots, both buzzer beater types. The first was nearly half court, running with time expiring. The second was more crucial as it won the game for the Nuggets in OT.J-Rich had an amazing dunk as he drove underneath the basket jumped up, cocked the ball and the reverse dunked on the rim. Gotta see it to believe it. Despite the play,...

Lakers & Pistons Win on Superbowl Sunday
2008-02-04 13:46:00
On a day of one of the biggest upsets in sports, the underdog New York Giants took out the undefeated New England Patriots. ending talks of the perfect season. Two NBA games took place were definitely in the shadows of the biggest game of NFL's season. In one contest, the Lakers took out the Washington Wizards 103-91. Cron Butler returned from injury hiatus, but scored just 15 points for his team. Kobe notched 25 in the first half and 30 points for the game to help his team win. The Lakers lead the game through the entire contest in DC.The other game of Sunday 's 2 game schedule saw the Mavericks get crushed by the Detroit Pistons, 90-67 Rasheed scored 21 points along with 9 rebounds. This was the Pistons' 5th straight win. THere as no clear reason for the Mav's letdown in this one, comparing turnovers and points in the paint, things looked even, but the Pistons managed to completely dominate, leading by as much as 26 in the game.It still looks wide open for who will be th...

See Shaq Play H-O-R-S-E
2008-02-03 14:45:00
Today will be the biggest game of the season...For the NFL, with Superbowl 42 coming atcha, featuring the dominant 18-0 Patriots against a not so bad Giants squad which looked close to beating New England weeks ago. Should make for an interesting story today. It will either be the happy ending to a storybook season, or the Giants will play spoilers with one of the bigger upsets in sports. The NBA will be a part of the Superbowl commercials today, more specifically Miami Heat star, Shaq . Shaq decided he wanted to have his own advertisement for Vitaminwater "Power-C". Basically he said if 50 Cent has a commercial why doesn't Shaq? Shaq is a regular imbiber of the drink so he will star in a commercial featuring his prowess for different sports. The ad will feature Shaq as a jockey but also ballin'. According to AOL sports, the concept was born when Shaq learned the president of Glaceau was one of the top 50 jockey owners in the country. So naturally an idea was born for Sha...

Power Shift to Lakers?
2008-02-02 23:28:00
A great trade was pulled off on Friday involving Pau Gasol being sent to the Lakers . Gasol was traded along with a draft pick to LA in exchange for basically Kwame Brown, who's been a bust in the NBA. Kobe is definitely happy with the move because he now has more star power in addition to himself, and Lamar Odom. Gasol brings about 18 points, 9 rebounds and a few blocks per game which will make for a strong front court. Many analysts now say the Lakers are among the best of the West. The Grizzlies will clearly be in rebuild mode now. They have several young stars on the team, including emerging star, Rudy Gay. With the trade they will be able to clear up extra salary money once Kwame's contract is up. They can also use the extra draft picks to add to their team.So will this make the Lakers the best in the West? It's tough to say, but as long as they keep superstar Kobe Bryant happy, all is good in Hollywood.Get your favorite NBA Player or Team Wallpaper for your cellphone!

Cuban Calls 2007-08 Best Season
2008-02-01 16:25:00
Maverick owner and blogger extraordinaire, Mark Cuban , has pronounced the 2007-08 NBA season as the best NBA season ever. Cuban cites the following:This season, at least in the Western Conference, no one is going to ask the question of whether the regular season is important. For the remainder of this season, EVERY game is important. Every team will have their up and down streaks simply because its going to be hard to play playoff quality basketball for 40 games. Back to back games in the West are going to be brutal.Cuban also mentions that in the West there are 10 teams just 7 games apart in terms of rankings. A 5 or 6 game losing streak could possibly send a Western team out of playoff contention. So he just might have a good point there, although Cuban loves to hype the league and his team.On another note, the Celtics continue to stay perfect against West teams by beating Cuban's very own Dallas Mavs. The game came down to the final minute in Boston, with Rajon Rondo hitting...

Lebron Keeps On
2008-01-31 10:52:00
Lebron continues to shoulder the load in Cleveland. In fact last night, it wasn't even on his shoulder, but on his ankle and pinky, both of which he hurt in the Trailblazers game. Lebron managed to get the winning layup too, with under 5 seconds to go. He magically glided through the lane and scooped the ball up and against the backboard. The Cavs edged out the hot Blazers by just a point. No team has been hotter than the Cavs since Christmas. And it easily is a result of them having Lebron's services available. Now Lebron has openly said he wants his team to do what it takes to acquire Jason Kidd. Lebron-Kidd, how sick is that? Just imagine the fast break opportunities they would present. Both guys have been triple double stat types, so that would only make the Cavs that much better and tougher in an East which has the Pistons, Magic and Celtics full of stars. But the problem is that Cleveland is not the frontrunner in the Kidd sweepstakes. Reports have Dallas as the to...
Mid-Season NBA Awards by Yahoo!

With three weeks to go before we hit the 2008 All-Star game in New Orleans, Adrian Wojnarowski, of Yahoo ! It seems as if the media wants this guy to be Lebron and Kobe rolled into one. It's a bit tough to expect Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter to all excel and co-exist. Maybe the Kidd trade will free up Vince and RJ to perform even better. RJ is on a tear and may be an all-star this year, about time for him.Read the entire Yahoo Sports article here, which gives explanations of e...

Webber Comes Full Circle
2008-01-29 20:48:00
Chris Webber started his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors. He then bounced around from the Wizards to Kings to the Sixers and then the Pistons. Now Webber has returned to his origins as he has been signed by Golden State. The Bay Area star is back, but aged of course. Webber hasn't played in any games since losing with the Pistons in last year's Conference Finals. Read the Associated Press story hereIn other trade rumor news, Jason Kidd is now saying he is ok if he is traded. Kidd says he doesn't feel he'll win a title in New Jersey, and they need to trade him for a bunch of guys to give them a championship chance. Kidd also says when he would achieve a triple double in a game it usually meant a win, but it's just not working out right now. Heading to tonight's game against the Bucks, the Nets have lost 9 in a row, and are sub-.500 in the Eastern Conference. Possible teams interested in J Kidd right now are the Mavericks and Nuggets, so a deal is looming befo...

Kidd Trade? Kobe v Lebron
2008-01-28 07:46:00
In recent reports it's looked like Jason Kidd 's agent has requested that the New Jersey Nets trade the star point guard. According to NY Daily News, Jason Kidd hasn't spoken with his agent Jeff Schwartz in weeks so he has no knowledge of any requests. As for now Kidd is still in New Jersey leading the show for the losing-record Nets. However you'd have to believe his career is in the late stages and he wouldn't mind playing for a title contender. Somehow the Nets botched the game in Minnesota Sunday night despite having the lead late in the fourth. May be a good time for J Kidd to find his new team. Read the full story hereIn other news, Andris Biedrins is officially a rebounding monster. The Golden State F/C pulled down 26 rebounds in a win against the New York Knicks last night. The Heat's Impressive Streak
2008-01-27 08:14:00
(Above: The photo has said it all for the Heat this season)The Heat are on an impressive win streak. One game. They had previously lost 15 straight and finally managed to break free and snap the losing skid on Saturday night. The Heat tried their best to pull off a win a few days ago at the expense of San Antonio, but fell by just a point, 90-89.According to Reuters.com:"Down the stretch we had the opportunity to win but once again we just didn't get the job done," said Miami-born forward Udonis Haslem. That's been the Miami Heat's tale most of this 2007-08 season which has been extremely disappointing for the former champs. Saturday night was a different story. Dwyane Wade scored 35 to lead the way and made a great defensive stop in the final seconds as well. Wade is featured on the current cover of ESPN the Magazine with a quote "It's my life, I know what I can take on". Wade has taken on the responsibility of suggesting a playoff spot for the Heat still this year. Th...

Chris Paul Stands Tall
2008-01-25 10:37:00
There's been recent debate in the NBA as to who is the best point guard. Analysts will place the names Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Derron Williams, Jason Kidd and Chris Paul onto their lists. Usually it's a contention as to who is the #1 choice between Billups and Parker, but some argue that Chris Paul is playing some of the best "small ball" of any point guard in the league. He's been quietly leading an exciting Hornets' team towards a playoff berth and an impressive Western Conference record.CP3 was taken fourth in the 2005 draft by the Hornets out of Wake Forest, then went on to easily capture the Rookie of the Year award. He now ranks third among league leaders in assists with 10.4 a game. He averages 21.6 points a game and almost 3 steals a contest, which he leads the NBA in. At 6 feet tall he not only runs the show but is also able to dunk, a feat most mortal men of that size only dream of. Paul scored a career high 43 points earlier in the season on December 7...

The blue & white shoe features white pinstripes running along the shoe and on the tongue behind #23, not only LeBron’s number, but the number of Yankee legend, Don Mattingly. The shoe is set to be released in March and will be sold only in New York, so Indians fans needn’t worry about seeing the shoe in Cleveland stores.Full story at CNBC.com. 2008 Dunk Contest Entrants

The NBA announced that there will be four contestants in the 2008 NBA Dunk Contest :Rudy Gay, Memphis GrizzliesGerald Green, Boston CelticsDwight Howard, Orlando MagicJamario Moon, Toronto RaptorsAccording to a recent Sportscenter, Dwight Howard is leading the NBA in terms of total dunks this season. Gerald Green of the Timberwolves is the reigning champion, as he won last year's contest in Vegas against Nate Robinson. This will be the first dunk contest for the Grizzlies' Gay and Raptors' Moon. Jamario Moon would have to be the unknown name to most NBA fans, unless you're in Canada. I'm picking Rudy Gay as the early favorite. A bit biased with the pick but he's had some vicious throwdowns since college and entering the league. Pilots Picket affects NBA Teams

There's a small piece of news involving the pilots who fly NBA teams from city to city. On the New York news this morning they showed pilots in a picket line outside MSG, protesting their current contracts. According to People's Weekly World:NEW YORK (PAI)--After 3 years of fruitless talks, Champion Air pilots will take to the informational picket lines on Jan. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York, Airline Pilot reported. The National Mediation Board, which oversees airline labor-management relations, has yet to respond to Champion management’s demand that their talks recess--or order the airline to bargain. Champion, a charter carrier, flies 13 NBA teams to games, including the Washington Wizards, who play the New York Knicks at the Garden that night. It's interesting that they chose to picket at the Knicks game.
