No Rice or Tacos
2008-01-12 22:40:00
Former star from the Charlotte Hornets, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers Glen Rice was arrested Friday for felony battery charges. The former all-star confronted and beat up a man he found hiding in a closet.According to allheadlinesnews.com:"Rice, who played in the NBA 15 seasons with six different teams and retired with a career average of 18.3 points a game, was released on a $5,000 bond after he was arrested for allegedly beating a man he found hiding in the closet of his estranged wife.Alberto Perez told police Rice punched him several times. He had to have nine stitches to a treat a cut on his forehead."In other news the Lakers beat the Milwaukee Bucks last night. Charlie Bell scored a 3 pointer in the final 20 seconds to give the Bucks over 100 points in the game. The home crowd for the Lakers was not pleased as they would not receive the free tacos they get if the opponent stays under 100 points.Get your favorite NBA Player or Team Wallpaper for your cellphone!

2007 NBA Game Protest Upheld
2008-01-12 00:59:00
Looks like a bit of interesting basketball history has been made. The Hawks vs Heat game from December 19th 2007 is now officially under review. Commissioner David Stern decided that the Hawks staff were "grossly negligent" in committing a scoring error which may have resulted in costing the Heat the Overtime game.According to NBA.com's report:"The Heat protested the game because, with 51.9 seconds remaining in overtime, the Hawks' scoring table personnel incorrectly disqualified the Heat's Shaquille O'Neal – asserting that a foul committed by O'Neal was his sixth foul of the game, when in fact it was only his fifth. The error occurred because the Hawks’ Official Scorer mistakenly attributed to O’Neal a foul at 3:24 remaining in the fourth period that was actually called against the Heat’s Udonis Haslem."So the reasoning is that without Shaq, the Heat were at a disadvantage. As of right now each team's record has been edited by 1 game. 1 Loss was taken away from M...

Arenas' Return in February
2008-01-10 19:28:00
According to Wizards superstar Gilbert Arenas in his latest blog, he should be 100% and back from injury sometime in mid February . Arenas doesn't want to push things though. He notes that Kobe and Wade have gone through phases after injuries where they had to favor them, and that can hurt the team. From Gilbert's blog:" We watched the Miami Heat and I see Wade out there … and I remember seeing Kobe like that … and that’s what I didn’t want to do, to be out there limping and trying to push it, because it don’t look good. You don’t play well, you’re always guarding the injury and you can see Wade right now out there guarding it, and that’s the only reason the Heat are struggling so bad. He’s not being Wade right now. He’s not playing up to his potential because of the injury he’s coming back from. They say I’ll be at 100 percent around February, mid-February, somewhere around the All-Star break, but I’m just going to be in extra wait mode, just to be sure...

Amare from Downtown
2008-01-09 02:01:00
Amare doesn't just dazzle and dunk out on the hardwood, he also is quite the businessman as well. Stoudemire's Downtown is the name of a casual sports fan's restaurant co-owned by the Suns' superstar. According to an NBA TV video, Stoudamire partnered up with a business mind, Bill Smith and opened the place up, complete with flat screen TV's, pool tables, fully stocked bar, chef specialtys and even a few DJ's who come in a few times a week."The Statini" is aptly named after Stoudamire, aka "STAT". Statini features Amare's signature cocktail and toast with the superstars. Celebrity guests who've stopped by the restaraunt have included Rick Reilly (Sports Ilustrated) and Donovan McNabb of the Philadelphia Eagles.Former Suns shooting star, Dan Majerle had his own restaurant in Phoenix as well, Majerle's Sports Grill. This may be the sign that a Phoenix Suns player bas become a superstar in Arizona, with Amare becoming the latest restaurant mogul. See more info about Stou...

2 NBA Stars Flying High
2008-01-07 02:08:00
In addition to Portland's Trailblazer, Brandon Roy, there appears to be two other rising stars in the NBA this season. Both men are aerial assassin/high-flyer types who have the ability to score in bunches and win games. They are Atlanta's Josh Smith and Memphis' Rudy Gay.Gay already hit a game-winner this season to help defeat the San Antonio Spurs. The play was amongst the top NBA plays of 2007. Rudy had the Spur's Tim Duncan in his mug, yet rained a three pointer to seal the deal. Grizzlies win and Rudy's a hero. He's also been amongst top 10 plays all season for his impressive throwdowns. Many questioned his abilities when he first entered the league, as he came from a University of Connecticut team that didn't meet expectations. However, Gay is proving he's well worth the money as he keeps improving. The Grizzlies will begin to succeed, in time.Josh Smith hit the NBA straight out of high school. He's the typical sink or swim player. Either he's going to pro...

Act Now: Vote Bosh 2008!
2008-01-04 21:12:00
Chris Bosh wants your All-Star vote. So much so that the Toronto Raptors forward has resorted to a creative marketing strategy. On his website, Chris-Bosh.com, the superstar has a video of himself mocking those local car salesmen you see. In the ad Chris asks for your vote and says you don't even have to spend $20 to vote. It's a definite first in the history of All-star votes and NBA stars campaigning for votes. Chris is currently third in votes amongst East forwards (behind KG & Lebron). Act now if you want to see Bosh starting in the East!Bosh also has an interesting blog going on his site. In a December 14th entry, he discusses the guys he watched while "growing up":"I think about all of these players in the league that I watched while I was growing up. Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Jermaine O'neal, Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter and many more were all drafted when I was in Middle School, some a little before that. Shaq was an All-Star when I was in th...

Season Struggles: Lebron & Wade
2008-01-02 13:47:00
Two guys that are really struggling with their teams in the NBA right now are Lebron James and Dwyane Wade . ESPN has a recent article discussing the two players' frustrating season. The two megastars are on the outside looking in for the playoff chase, even if it is still early. But you can't really blame them. While they are the main star for their teams, you still have to realize it's a team game. Even when Jordan carried the Bulls on his back, he had supporting contributions from the role players. The Heat are struggling in part thanks to injuries and the aging Shaquille O'Neal. The Cavs have had trouble when Lebron wasn't in the lineup. Both teams have given way to the 2 real contenders in the East in Boston and Detroit. You can add Orlando as a third option. After those 3, it's tough to see any other Eastern team taking the top spot or a place in the Finals. Then again, Cleveland managed to will its way in last year, thanks to Lebron. The evidence is also clear th...

2008 Begins: Around the NBA
2008-01-01 14:04:00
Just like 2007, all good things must come to an end. That includes the Jazz ending the Trailblazers' 13 game win streak. Utah 111-Portland 101. This makes the Pistons own one of the hottest streaks in the NBA.The Magic pulled off a 112-110 win in OT against the struggling Bulls. Toronto edged out New Orleans 107-102 , and the Bobcats made a nice fourth quarter run to win their game.Players of the week for last week, were Chris Paul and Paul Pierce. Paul had an incredible 40 point effort and Pierce had a 38 point effort as their teams added wins.Kiki Vandeweghe returns to the NBA, this time in a top exec role with the NJ Nets.TheStar.com discusses the upcoming mic check for Raptors' coach Sam Mitchell.Boston Herald discusses how the Celtics are more than star power.ESPN's Daily Dime looks back at 2007 and ahead to 2008 for the NBA.Get your favorite NBA Player or Team Wallpaper for your cellphone!
The Upcoming NBA Year 08'
2007-12-31 06:07:00
The NBA 2007-08 Season is heading into the new year. 2007 has already brought plenty of surprises and unexpected, hard to explain occurrences. Here's some thoughts on the new year for the NBA.- Continued Celtics dominance - Barring an injury expect them to keep piling the wins on. The Big 3 are playing great as expected, and secondary guys like James Posey, Eddie House and Rajon Rondo add great depth right now. Of course, they've yet to play those tough West Coast teams (Spurs, Suns, Mavs). Once we see the Celtics knock off some of the Best of the West we can start calling them serious top contenders.- Something's gotta give - Either the Bulls or Heat will likely go on a great run to get into a low spot for the East playoffs. If either team makes it to the 8 spot, the #1 team may have their hands full, even the Celtics. It's tough to say right now which team will do it. My preseason pick was the Bulls would make the Finals, and right now they just aren't getting it done....

Top 5 NBA Stories of 2007
2007-12-27 05:32:00
The year 2008 is approaching quickly and we've seen plenty of great highlights and surprises so. We've seen players shift teams, players emerge, rookie phenoms, gambling refs, and NBA champs who may be the latest dynasty in sports. 5 - Greg Oden #1 draft pick - The predicted pick was made into a reality when the Blazers took this franchise player at the 1st pick in the 07 draft. However, they got some bad news as well. During the offseason, Oden required surgery on his knee and it put him on the shelf, and not just for a few weeks, but for the entire season. Despite this, the Blazers have done pretty well without their young hopeful star. They've run up an 11 game win streak, thanks to last year's Rookie of the Year, Brandon Roy. So things should get even better when the big man can play.4 -King James in the Finals - Lebron finally arrived at his preferred destination in 2007. Well not quite. Lebron would love to have an NBA ring right about now and perhaps an NBA Final...

A Skiles & Arenas' Christmas
2007-12-25 07:27:00
Tis the 2007-08 NBA season..Just not for the Bulls or their Coach Scott Skiles. The current Chicago record of 9-16 gave General Manager Paxson enough reason to make a change. Unfortunately that change was made on Christmas eve and it was the firing of Coach Scott Skiles. Skiles brought the team to the playoffs in the past 3 seasons. Last season had the Bulls sweeping the Miami Heat in the playoffs before falling to the Pistons. This season's been disappointing for the Bulls to say the least. Skiles said he's not unhappy with the timing and realizes a change needed to be made. According to ESPN the Bulls will go with their assistant coach for now, until GM Paxson makes an offer for another coach, after the season. An early candidate for the job may be Rick Carlisle, former Pistons and Pacers coach.Merry Christmas to all NBA players, coaches, refs, personnel, dancers and fans! IGN's 2007 NBA Player of the Year
2007-12-24 02:03:00
IGN.com, a popular video game resource site, has chosen Dirk Nowitski for its 2007 NBA Player of the Year award. According to the site:"Although the Spurs were the consummate team and came together in the playoffs, no one stood out more in 2007 than Dirk Nowitzki, who took huge steps forward as a defender and as a teammate, scoring more efficiently while setting a career-high in assists. Shooting 50% from the field as a jump shooter is absurd, and while the Mavericks were shocked in the playoffs by the Warriors, if we had to win one game tomorrow, there's no player we'd rather start our team with than the German star." (Source: IGN.com)Runners-up for the award were the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan and the Cleveland Cavs' Lebron James. Both these players enjoyed a trip to the NBA finals, with Duncan's team recapturing the title and perhaps etching its name amongst the NBA's great dynasties. Lebron James continues to improve, and there's no doubt that this still young pheno...
NBA Christmas Tripleheader!
2007-12-23 06:19:00
Happy Holidays! Christmas day will offer a true gift for NBA fans with a triple-header of basketball action! Two of the games will be back to back on ABC, with the nightcap on ESPN. Here's a look at the 3 matchups and what to expect from the teams and players.1) Heat vs Cavs 2PM on ABCSeveral of the biggest names in the game will go at it in Game 1, with Shaq and D-Wade's Heat facing Lebron's Cavs. Both teams have had what you can call disappointing seasons so far, but the Heat are by far the bigger letdown of the two. The recent loss of Alonzo Mourning adds more to the frustrations of Miami. However where there's a Wade there's a chance for a win. Lebron has been putting up great numbers as usual and carrying his team. With an aging Shaq, you'd have to think the Cavs will be able to outrebound and outscore the Heat in the paint. I think this game will come down to the final minutes of play and could offer the most exciting of the 3 contestsPrediction: In a close game...
ESPN Greatest Highlight: BBall Choices

UConn Ballers Make Statements
2007-12-20 14:21:00
Several entries ago it was noted here that the University of Connecticut is the college/university with the most players in the NBA. And if you missed NBA action last night, players from the school definitely made their presence known.- Ray Allen was prominent despite the Celtics' loss to the Pistons. Ray hit a huge 3 in the final 30 seconds or so of the game to tie things up. It was the other Allen, Tony (not from UConn) who cost the C's the game as Billups faked him to draw the foul with 0.2 seconds left. On the opposing side for the Pistons was Rip Hamilton who added 21 points. He and Ray matched up and defended one another during the game, with the commentators noting their alma mater. Read more about the game here.- Rudy Gay hit a huge three over Tim Duncan with time expiring to win the game for the Memphis Grizzlies. Rudy's been having a huge season and this is further evidence of his talent and potential to become an All-Star. More about Rudy's heroics- Ben Gordon ...

Pistons & Celtics Battle!
2007-12-20 05:11:00
In the past there were many infamous battles between the Celtics and Pistons, playoff and regular season. Laimbeer taking on Bird, knocking McHale and other Celtics to the hardwood. Isiah getting into the Chief, Robert Parish' face. The famous Bird steal and pass to Dennis Johnson as he drove for the layup to win the game. You've heard the play by play call, many times.Wednesday night featured the 2007 version of this battle, and an early season test for both clubs. It featured a battle of UCONN stars in Rip Hamilton and Ray Allen on opposing teams. Also featured were two big men in KV and Rasheed. Paul Pierce and Chauncey Billups also starred in the 2k version. This would also provide an early test for the Celtics as they battled one of the true NBA contenders in the Pistons. Both teams came out hot in the first quarter matching baskets. Rajon Rondo was an early surprise star as Hubie Brown noted that he was shocking the Pistons at how easy he could get into the paint an...

MJ Practices With Bobcats
2007-12-19 10:13:00
Let the rumors start up again. The legend was back on the court, away from his role as observer and part owner. Yes, Michael Jordan decided it was time to practice with the team this past Tuesday. Something he did with the Washington Wizards before he decided he needed to come back to the game. Is this deja vu?Jordan claims he took to the court to show the Bobcats the little things they were doing wrong. The team's lost 10 of its last 12 games and MJ felt he could lend a bit of wisdom. The Bobcats sit at 8-14 and are better than only a handful of Eastern Conference teams. They also seem to lack that "go to guy" that most teams have, despite adding the services of superstar Jason Richardson this past off-season.According to Canadian Press, "I also told them yesterday that on this team we have no all-stars - none," Jordan said. "That means everybody has to rely upon each other to be successful. Until we develop an all-star that can take over a game, I think it's very importan...
Ruthless & Toothless
2007-12-13 20:11:00
According to The Herald Sun in Australia, the land down under may be home to the next "Shaq" super-sized superstar. Nathan Jawai is the young man's name, and he measures 208cm in height and weighs in at 128kg. He is described as "nimble and quick" in the post position, and also powerful. He recently scored 24 points and pulled down 24 rebounds in the NBL All-Star game, and should be a first round pick in the future. Some say he may grow to be bigger than Luc Longley, Chris Anstey and Andrew Bogut (previous and current Australian players in the NBA). Read more about Nathan Jawai.Good news in the TJ Ford injury is that he will only miss one week. Al Horford the Hawks player who was involved in Ford hitting the deck, also payed a visit to the hospital to check on the guard. Ford was in attendance for last night's Raptors vs Mavs game in Toronto.Last night saw some interesting antics prior to and during the Pistons vs. Rockets game in Detroit, and the Jazz vs. Suns game in Phoe...

TJ Ford Hits Court Hard
2007-12-12 11:30:00
You may or may not have seen the unfortunate injury of TJ Ford as highlights were shown to open ESPN Sportscenter. In the Hawks vs. Raptors game Tuesday night, TJ Ford was on a fast break with Hawks rookie Al Horford trailing. Ford went for the layup and Horford went for the block. Unfortunately Horford's hand caught Ford ackwardly and Ford came down onto the court in what looked like bad whiplash. Ford's neck/head snapped back against the court, and Ford was taken out from the game on a stretcher in a neck brace. Chris Bosh indicated later it was a relief to see that TJ was moving after the fall.Horford insisted the play wasn't dirty, but Horford was ejected from the game with a flagrant foul for this. He stated he was fooled by Ford's layup move and when he went to block the ball he caught Ford's head. He later said he's not a dirty type of player and hopes Ford is ok. It's unfortunate for TJ, because he had a previous spinal injury which he was able to recover from....

Best Damn Talks to Ray Allen
2007-12-12 05:30:00
Ray Allen recently appeared on the Best Damn Sports Show Period, via satellite from Boston, Massachusetts. Ray discussed how great it is to play for a storied franchise like the Celtics and wear the throwback jerseys in a recent game. He also discussed his acting gigs such as He Got Game. Ray said that he was being trash-talked by Spike Lee during a Knicks-Bucks game early in his career. Spike eventually talked to Ray about auditioning for the part. Ray talked about how intimidating it was to work with a legendary actor like Denzel Washington. In "Get to Know Ray Allen" Ray said he never received Allan Ray's paycheck when they were teammates. Ray said his 1 bad habit is singing, because he can't do it too well. He also once painted his toenails purple for a playoff run in Milwaukee. Ray discussed an interesting campaign being done by Vitamin Water and NBA players on December 19th too. The December 19th promotion which involves players like Ray Allen, T-Mac, Shaq, Dwight Ho...

Bottom of the NBA Barrel
2007-12-11 00:55:00
A look at the worst teams in the NBA currently. From Worst to Best, the 5 worst NBA teams are: Seattle Sonics 5-16Minnesota T-Wolves 3-15Miami Heat 5-15Memphis Grizzlies 6-14New York Knicks 6-13No big surprises other than the Miami Heat here. The Knicks' fans have been chanting for Isiah Thomas to be fired or thrown in jail for weeks now. It's tough for them to be fans right about now. You could say that the Knicks and Grizzlies who round out that list have talented rosters but something just isn't gelling. You could blame it on coaching or that they aren't using their talent properly.Perhaps the worst division is either the Northwest or the Central, where just two teams in each have winning records. Northwest of course holds many of the teams that have been scrapped or are in rebuild mode (Portland, Seattle and Minnesota). The Central is a surprise although you would expect Cleveland to fall below .500 without King James. The Bulls and Heat continue to remain enigmas, a...

Mic Check for NBA Coaches
2007-12-07 19:22:00
It's time for NBA Reality TV. The latest from the NBA is that coaches will now be required to wear mics during televised contests. There will also be a camera mounted in locker rooms to capture pregame, halftime and postgame time of players and coaches. ABC, ESPN and TNT games will be the scene for these latest A/V developments. In addition to that, coaches are required to give interviews to the broadcasting TV network between their 3rd and 4th quarters. Last night's Denver vs. Dallas game featured a microphone on Mavs coach Avery Johnson and Nuggets coach George Karl.We all know how strict David Stern can be at times, but this seems like Big Brother to the fullest. The audio won't even be televised live and is for NBA review, edited possibly for later segments on sports shows. They might even pick up some sort of discussion of sports betting using this spy game. You really have to wonder if this is necessary and fair though.I'd have to agree with Miami Heat coach Pat ...

AI Technology: 51 Point Explosion!
2007-12-06 21:34:00
Last night there was a pretty decent West Coast showdown on ESPN. It pitted Kobe's Lakers against AI, Melo and the Denver Nuggets. It stayed close through out and had an almost playoff feel to it. Kobe and Melo both hit the deck on different plays and came back from minor injuries to compete in the game. Kobe's team got the win 111-107, but Allen Iverson had the impressive stat of 51 points. He was having a "can't miss" kind of night as everything was falling for him. He'd hit shots as he fell back near the scorer's table, layups that looked easy for AI and hard for the rest of humanity, and jumpers from various spots all over the court. Iverson's total is the highest scoring mark for a player so far this season as he surpassed the feats of T-Mac, Kobe and Lebron James. It goes to show this isn't just a big man's game. Iverson's already been a league MVP at such a short stature. He brought his Sixers team to the Finals one year against the Lakers and helped pull off...

3 Pointers, Triple Doubles & Starbury
2007-12-05 18:43:00
An article at thestar.com discusses "how to succeed in the NBA" and looks at the fact that the league in general is heading towards a record-breaking season in terms of 3 pointers hoisted up. According to the report the average team has attempted 36 three-point shots per game, which is about 5 more attempts a game than five years ago. Five years ago saw the arrival of Steve Nash to the Phoenix Suns and this style of play has certainly seen a lot of 3 point shots taken. In terms of triple doubles, ESPN.com has a look at whether or not King James and J-Kidd can average that for a season. The legendary Oscar Robertson did this, with an impressive 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists back in 1961-62. Kidd has 11.6 points, 10.7 assists and 8.6 rebounds this season. Lebron has 30.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists. Both guys are surely capable of doing it, but will need to pick up their overall production. Lebron is currently sidelined with a finger/hand injury. The ESP...

The Top College for NBA Talent
2007-12-03 01:30:00
An interesting trivia question came up during the Nets-Sixers game the other night. Which college or university has the most NBA players currently? Any guesses? The school with the most current NBA stars is the University of Connecticut with 13.Here are the 13 current UCONN ballers in the NBA:Ray Allen, Boston CelticsHilton Armstrong, New Orleans HornetsJoshn Boone, New Jersey NetsCaron Butler, Washington WizardsRudy Gay, Memphis GrizzliesBen Gordon, Chicago BullsRichard Hamilton, Detroit PistonsEmeka Okafor, Charlotte BobcatsKevin Ollie, Philadelphia SixersDonyell Marshall, Cleveland CavaliersMarcus Williams, New Jersey NetsCharlie Villanueva, Milwaukee BucksJake Voskuhl, Milwaukee BucksTied for second were good ol' rivals, University of North Carolina and Duke at 12 each. The 2 schools have produced the likes of Vince Carter, Antawn Jamison, Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse and Elton Brand. Is the Wild Wild West on Repeat?
2007-11-30 21:31:00
Phoenix was off to a hot start with its run and gun up-tempo offensive powers. But is this anything new? The Spurs are a top team out West . So are the Mavs. History seems to be repeating itself over the past few seasons. If you look at the West realistically for the Finals and top contenders, it's really no surprise at all, those are your 3 teams. Everyone says "the West is tough", "the West is better", but in all reality it may be peaking. Teams such as New Orleans, Memphis, and then Denver and Houston offer promise but no title hopes, yet.Teams such as the Nuggets and Rockets look like contenders for a bit, then falter. New Orleans has talent as does Memphis but neither is capable of taking out the top teams. You might even throw the Lakers into the equation, thanks to Kobe, but due to his off and on team spirit you have to question them too. It's nothing new for the West. We just may be seeing a re-run of last season with the Suns, Mavs and Spurs being called favorites...

Is 1 Superstar Better than Celtics Big 3?
2007-11-29 20:05:00
Everyone was ready to crown the Celtic s as the Eastern Conference top dogs just a few weeks ago. But it's amazing how things can change. You see the Celtics have 3 great players (2 of which are new to the team), and many believed that makes them unstoppable. But in a few instances it hasn't worked out that way. And those instances have come against top tier Eastern Conference teams, Cleveland and Orlando. The Magic have the new Beast of the East, Dwight Howard. D-Howard is just a monster in the middle and able to dominate games, and he's still very young. He's an amazing double-double machine stacking up points and rebounds similar to the way Shaq used to. The Magic are 1 of Boston's 2 defeats, and of course they will meet again. Then you have Cleveland, who handed Boston a more recent defeat. Of course the Cavs have superstar Lebron James and he's nearly averaging a triple double. The guy does it all and wills his team to victories, as we all witnessed in last year's ...

2007-11-28 01:33:00
NBA.com has a look at the top 20 players in the race for 2008 NBA MVP. Numero uno is a wise choice, with Dwight Howard topping the list. He's definitely the man behind Orlando's success as he mans the middle. Coming in second is Kevin Garnett, who's also doing everything as planned in Boston. And thirdly is the guy who's been playing out of this world lately, Lebron.Lebron is averaging 31.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 8.1 assists. Howard averages a double double as does KG in the points and rebounds category. But Lebron still has a good shot to win it this year. He doesn't have the talent around him that KG does, and Dwight Howard plays a more dominant position. Lebron however is dominating those 3 stats and it really helps his team capture wins. Kinda reminds you of another guy who used to put the team on his back...
