The UFC 81 results are as follows: 1. Rob Emerson (155) def. Keita Nakamura (155) via split decision 2. Marvin Eastman (185) def. Terry Martin (186) via unanimous decision 3. Tim Boetsch (205) def. David Heath (205) via TKO (strikes) - R1 (4:52) Tim Boetsch was a complete animal in his UFC debut.  Going into the fight with 10 days notice, Boetsch completely overwhelmed David Heath, ending the fight by throwing him like a rag doll to the mat and then pounding him. 4. Chris Lytle (170) def. Frank Mir Takes Down the Beast, Brock Lesnar

I without a doubt want to see Brock Lesnar fight again.  Brock did a hell of a job coming into the fight against Frank Mir.  Brock immediately overwhelmed Frank with a take down going into side control immediately and then dropping some hammer fists on Frank.  Brock continued to overpower Mir while on top, throwing a barrage of punches.  After landing a shot to the back of Mir’s head, referee Steve stepped in and broke up the fight, giving Mir his time to recover.  The two stood up again, Frank threw a kick which appeared to hurt Frank much more than Brock. Brock then threw a punch while knocked Frank down, but wasn’t a knock out or flash knock out.  Brock then got on top of Frank and threw a barrage of punches yet again.  Frank was in big trouble at this point.  Using his heart, he mustard’ up an armbar attempted, following by a knee leg lock and ended the fight with some great jiu jitsu. Rob Emerson interviewed with TAGG Radio about his upcoming UFC 81 fight against Keita Nakamura. In addition to speaking about how he hurt his rib in training and being slammed by Gray Maynard in their last fight, caused something to be dislodged. The result, three months to heal. So now he’s ready to get back into the game, however, there has been some distractions about a recent arrest and an arrested related to his alleged gang member status from years ago. Emerson stated on the TAGG show that we was never apart of a gang and the whole thing was thrown way out of proportion. A Fox video related to the event from years ago was posted to few months back, but there was little information about it at the time. As the owner of the IFBA Lightweight World Title, a professional boxer, a 27-1 Tae Kwon Do record, and a model / Playboy centerfold, Mia St. John entered the cage at a X-1 event for her first female MMA bout at the Neil S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. 40 year old St. John went up against Rhonda Gallegos and ended the fight 44 seconds into it with a Knock Out! Mia St. John setup the punch with a few kicks and then delivered the fight ending blow. UFC 83 is Making it’s way to Canada! Tickets Go on Presale this Weekend!

The UFC is going to make it’s debut in Canada for UFC 83. In January of 2008, the UFC was suppose to make it’s Canadian debut at the Bell Centre, but was canceled. But due to conflicts with the hockey schedule, among other things, the only thing Canadian we got out of the deal was the new UFC Octagon Girl Edith Larente. So now it’s official, UFC 83, will take place at the Bell Centre on April 19th 2008. Tickets goes on presale Sunday, Feb 3rd at Noon EST. As for an official card.. not sure yet. It was rumored by NBCSports that Matt Serra would take on Georges St. Pierre. However, it has yet to be confirmed.

MMA as a Fitness Workout - A Place to Train MMA in NYC, Ronin Athletics

NBC’s 1st Look NY (New York) recently did a segment about MMA as a fitness workout alternative to going to the gym and hitting the treadmill / weights. 1st Look NY met up with Christian Montes, the head instructor of NYC’s leading MMA gym. The question was posed of whether or not MMA training can be a replacement for going to the gym. Christian stated that you can definitely get as strong and in shape in the MMA gym as in a traditional cardio and weight gym. A great point that Christian points out is, training MMA can take your mind off the workout, rather than saying “I’ve got 10 more minutes on the treadmill”. My personal opinion… Those of train MMA would most likely agree with me… With respect to cardio, I agree 100% that MMA can be a replacement for the treadmill - hitting the pads and sparing is an intensive cardiovascular workout. UFC 81 is right around the corner (Feb 2nd 2008). Frank Mir will face off with WWF superstar Brock Lesnar, Tim Sylvia matches up with Antonio Nogueira , Jeremy Horn with Nate Marquardt, Marvin Eastman and Terry Martin, among some other interesting bouts. Tim Syvlia just dropped a note on his myspace stating that the training camp in went well and he’s ready for his upcoming fight against Antonio Nogueria. Chris Leben’s Next Fight… UFC 82 Dan Henderson vs Anderson Silva Fight

Coming off of a sweet victory over Terry Martin at Ultimate Fight Night 11, Chris Leben is getting ready to face off with Alessio Sakara at UFC 82.  The event will take place on March 1, 2008 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio, the same night that Anderson Silva will take on Dan Henderson for the UFC Middleweight championship.  Henderson’s coming off of a loss in which he had a light heavyweight title shot against Quinton Rampage Jackson.  Henderson didn’t get the Light Heavyweight Belt, now he’s getting a shot at the light heavyweight belt?  How does that work?  Shouldn’t there be some fights in between?  I guess that Henderson’s performance against Rampage, which was a very close fight all the way, is enough to give him that shot for the middleweight belt.  Although in my opinion, Anderson Silva is going to be a tougher battle for Henderson.

In the aftermath of a UFC event, one of the most interesting things that I like to check up on are the injuries from the event and the cha ching salaries. The results of Ultimate Fight Night 12 (UFN 12) have been released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The results… Nate Diaz brought home the most dough, 30 big ones, while Alvin Robinson brought home $7,000. Second runner up, Patrick Cote, $28,000, McFedries, 10 grand to take it on the chin. Swick, the main event, $20,000 over Burkman’s $10,000. Some fights that weren’t air - Corey Hill, 16k, Matt Wiman, 16k and Gray Maynard, 16k.

Ultimate Fight Night 12 Josh Burkman vs Mike Swick Fight Results

So what did you think about Ultimate Fight Night 12 that recently aired on Spike TV?  Some good fights right? The Mike Swick vs Josh Burkman fight wasn’t exciting, but Swick should be happy with his performance.  I know that he looked a bit bummed after the fight.  He’s use to having some insane victories, like the time he knocked out Gideon Ray, or the time he submitted Joe Riggs, or the beating he put on David Loiseau.  However, although nothing exciting happened, Swick put up some great defense against a guy who’s known for big take downs / slams.  Not being taken down once, that’s something to be proud of.  So what was all of the booing for?  Both fighters were swigging for the fences… simply nothing connected for a big KO. Chuck Zito Shopping Around For a Cage Fight Deal?

On the Howard Stern Show today, New York Bad Ass Chuck Zito spoke spoke about the possibility of fighting in a cage. Chuck stated that he would like to try himself in the cage and has recently cut over 30 pounds to get into fighting shape. Currently weighing approximately 207lb, Chuck is preparing himself for hopefully his first cage fight. Chuck stated that he has experience in 7 various martial arts forms, including Jujitsu. He additionally is very notable, much like Kimbo Slice, for his street toughness. Chuck is a former Hell Angels, Bodyguard, Golden Gloves fighter and more recently a Radio Personality and Actor. Chuck is currently 54 years old, soon to be 55 in March. If Chuck were to enter the cage, he would be one of the oldest MMA fighters to enter the ring. Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzon - UFC Fight Night April 2nd

The UFC has a another great Fight Night lined up for us… and the best part, free! Wednesday, April 2nd, Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon will face off live on Spike TV at the Broomfield Event Center, Broomfield, Colorado. I just got a tip today from my boy Russel that Britney Spears’ new boyfriend, 35 year old celebrity photographer, Adnan Ghalib has been rocking the new Georges St. Pierre Rush Affliction T-Shirt in the public. I never heard of Adnan until today… But I found it interesting how MMA is working it’s way into the pages of mainstream entertainment.  I’m not sure where these pics are from, maybe the pages of what I like to call a trash magazine? For those of you who don’t know, GSP recently wore this tee at UFC 79 after his win over Matt Hughes. UFC 80 Rapid Fire Fight Card Results

UFC 80 Rapid Fire was yet another exciting UFC.  We’re been lucky, UFC 79 and 80 were very eventful.  UFC 80 was full of Knockout’s and exciting moments.  Here are the results of the night: Sam Stout defeated Per Eklund Decision (Unanimous) Alessio Sakara defeated James Lee TKO (Strikes) - this was a quick fight ending eary into the first round.  James Lee tried to take down Sakara, Sakara while escaping the take down threw a barrage of hammer fists and won! Paul Kelly beat Paul Taylor via Decision (Unanimous) - this was an exciting fight that went the distance.  Both Kelly and Taylor threw down rapidly as soon as they entered the first round.  There was a lot of ground and pound by Kelly, which ultimately gave him the decision. Antoni Hardonk won against Colin Robinson 17 second into the first.  This was a crazy win, Antoni throw a series of Muay Thai kicks to the calf / shin of Robinson.  Robinson fell down and couldn’t get up.
