Discovery’s Fight Quest Focused on Krav Maga Israeli Martial Arts

On last night’s Fight Quest , the Discovery channel captured an interesting documentary of the Israeli self defense martial art of Krav Maga.  I thought it was extremely interesting and wanted to put the concept out there for all of the reader.  The Krav Maga self defense system is unique in that it’s 100% hardcore, all out, no rules, survival mentality.  As explained by Wiki: In Krav Maga, there are no hard-and-fast rules, and no distinction in training for men and women. It is not a sport, and there are no specific uniforms, attire or competitions, although some organizations recognise progress through training with rank badges and different levels. All the techniques focus on maximum efficiency in real-life conditions. Wow, this is very interesting. Yahoo ! Sports and the UFC have teamed up to deliver live UFC events online. The first event to make its way live on the Internet is UFC 82 “Pride of a Champion” featuring Dan Henderson vs Anderson Silva. The video will be streamed live in high quality bandwidth, 300k, 700k, and 1200k.  In addition to the full PPV event streamed live to your computer, included in the package is 24 hours of unlimited archive viewing of the event.  So, what does this all cost? $44.95! In my opinion, this is a good option for people who are overseas, including soldiers and vacationers.  With a video output card, you can deliver the live PPV directly to a television.  But the average Joe who can’t order the event and watch it directly on their big screen tv.. at $44.95, it’s not happening…

Battle Cage Xtreme IV Fight Card Set For Atlantic City New Jersey

TSEG (TEAM SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, LLC) will present it’s fourth Battle Cage Xtreme, “BCX IV” this April at the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City New Jersey . The fight is set for the 19th of April and will feature USKBA Lightweight title holder Kevin Roddy and Tim Troxell and Blair Tugman versus Steve D’Angelis for the Featherweight Title Fight . The main event is yet to be announced. A fight of the night that I’m looking forward to includes local New Jersey fighter Ryan McCarthy of Modern Martial Arts in Woodbridge, New Jersey facing off with Robert Goodridge of The Armory out of Jupitar Florida. New Jersey Native and UFC fighter Kurt Pellegrino instructs at The Armory and is scheduled for a special guest appearance and a meet and greet with the fans.  Will he possibly corner Robert Goodridge as well?

Forrest Griffin’s friend and assistant Frank posted an update to Forrest Griffin’s myspace bulletin today. Frank stated that Forrest has been extremely busy (He’s been putting 12 hour days into the project) filming The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 for Spike TV which will air on April 2, 2008. At the end of the season, Forrest will take on Quinton Rampage Jackson for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.  The date of the event has not been set yet, but expect a hell of an exciting fight.

American Gladiators Getting in the Way of Gina Carano’s Fight Career?

Gina Carano was originally scheduled to fight in Saturday’s EliteXC MMA Event “Street Certified”, but was later taken off the fight card. The reason for her inInside MMA HDNet episode suggests that the taping of a New American Gladiator season will get in the way of any possible fights in the near future. When asked by the show’s hosts (Bas Rutten and Kenny Rice) when Gina will be fighting next, she responded, “Not soon enough. I might be doing another season of American Gladiators in March and April and then right after that I’d like to jump into a fight.”

Kimbo Slice has proved himself to be the real deal once again.  Now that he has yet another pro MMA victory, what does he have to say about the Tank Abbott fight? From a learning experience, he was expecting Tank to come out looking for a take down or throwing a “sloppy left”.  Regarding his next fight, Kimbo’s willing to take on anyone that his trainers will put him up against.  If his trainers don’t want him to take a fight, he says he won’t.  As for Kimbo being “big time” now that he’s had another victory.  He’s just another “squirrel in this big world trying to get a nut”.  Bas Rutten states that Kimbo’s a natural. Bas in not worried about Kimbo rising too fast and facing off with someone out of his league.  Kimbo and his trainers are smart, they know the game, they will take it one step at a time and not get ahead of themselves. This is going to be Kim’s first MMA event and is bringing more attention to the female MMA community. Before she met Randy, Kim had trained a bit in MMA, but was never really technical. As she began more involved with Randy, she met Gina Carano who eventually brought Kim into the gym. Because of Gina, Kim started training more and more technical. Gina and Kim spar together now. Kimbo Slice Ready for the UFC? Kimbo Slice vs Tank Abbott Fight Results

Last night Showtime premiered the fight that we were all looking forward to, Kimbo Slice facing off with UFC legend Tank Abbott at EliteXC’s Street Certified Event. Here’s what happened, Kimbo and Tank came out and exchanged a few punches, Tank then locked up with Kimbo and put him up against the cage, Kimbo pushed off the cage and the two began to exchange punches again, Kimbo caught Tank with a left, hurting him. Tank feel forward a bit and Kimbo Capitalized with a round of uppercuts, Tank feel to the mat and held on to Kimbo’s leg while Kimbo unleashed punches standing up. Everything happened so quickly, in a matter of less a minute and a half the fight was over and Kimbo has once again proved himself. Dana, let’s start looking into getting this guy up against some real competition? By the way, the videos have made it to all of the popular video sharing sites already… quality sucks though. Kimbo Slice Would Get Hurt “Real Bad” in the UFC

Is Kimbo Slice the real deal?  He’s working hard as hell to prove he is.  My money’s on Kimbo, however not everyone agrees with this, including UFC President Dana White.  In a recent article published by Danny Acosta of MMA Madness, Danny notes that Dana White “buried” Kevin Ferguson, aka Kimbo Slice, saying that Kimbo would get hurt “real bad” fighting in the UFC.  The logic behind this is because he lost (controversially - rules were broken) to 1 and 1 professional fighter Sean Gannon, while Sean was beaten badly in his UFC appearance.  However, as the author astutely points out, we all know that ever dog has it’s day.  We additionally know that Kimbo has greatly improved his game working with Bas Rutten, since his early street fighting days.  If you haven’t seen the Sean Gannon vs Kimbo Slice video, check it out below: YouTube Direktvideo link

Randy Couture’s current wife Kim Couture is set to compete in her first MMA event, a smoker fight event at the Xtreme Couture Gym in Las Vegas, NV. The event will air on HDNet Fight s, titled “The Debut of Kim Couture” on Friday, February 29, immediately after the live IFL event. Kim has been training for MMA for over 5 years now, she’s rolled around a lot with professional MMA fighter and American Gladiator Gina Carano and feels confident in her skills. Goldberg Toe-to-Toe with Kimbo Slice Workout ShowTime Video

As Kimbo Slice gets ready for his much anticipated ShowTime EliteXC fight against Tank Abbott, WWE / WWF Wrestler Goldberg decides to learn what it takes to go from a street fighter to a lean mean professional MMA fighter.  Goldberg goes through the training regime of Kimbo Slice with boxing Coach Randy Khatami and warms up with a little shadow boxing muay thai style, which almost puts him to sleep.  Goldberg them puts on the gloves and hits the focus mits.  While Kimbo continues to do his thing, Goldberg is already resting it out on a bench.  Goldberg gets back into the training with a little Muay Thai knees, some ground and pound, some BJJ action on a dummy, medicine ball work, abs and then it’s a wrap.  Check out the video to get a better idea of the intensity of Kimbo’s work outs. Okay, so Edith Larente is no longer Edith Larente according to the UFC website.  The UFC recently posted pictures of Edith, posing solo and with Arianny Celeste, and the pictures are captioned “Edith Labelle”.  I’m not sure what executive decision went into the naming of Edith, I’m sure that most Ring Girl s use stage names for their own protection, but I didn’t see this one coming.  If you’re interested in seeing Edith’s new pictures, check out the UFC website. Matt Hughes , Robbie Lawler, Matt Pena and Marc Fiore open a new gym together called Hit Squad in Granite City , IL. From the photos on the Hit Squad website, the place looks very impressive. Here’s a little bit about it from their website: “H.I.T. This Week’s Big UFC 83 News - Patrick Cote Injured

Coming off a sweet Ultimate Fight Night 12 victory over hard hitting Andrew McFedries, Patrick Cote was preparing himself for a possible UFC 83 fight against Alan Belcher at UFC 83.  Unfortunately last week, Patrick Cote slipped and fell on some ice and sprained his knee.  The doctors say he can’t train for 6 weeks, making a UFC 83 fight impossible for Cote. Dan Lauzon Doesn’t Get the KO, But Finishes Frank Latina - WFC Wilmington

At last night’s WCF event brother of Joe Lauzon, Dan Lauzon took the victory over Frank Latina in the first round.  Going into the fight, Dan Lauzon, like always, was a little hesitant and slow to warm up.  After catching a crack in the face, Dan woke up and realized that he was in a fight.  The two exchanged blows and went to the ground.  Lauzon tried a variety of submission attempts, ending the fight with a triangle choke 3 minutes into the first round.  This was a huge fight for Dan Lauzon being that the TapOut crew was there with their camera’s documenting Lauzon, as well as Dana White being among the spectators in the audience recruiting new blood.

Tonight Boston will host the World Championship Fighting . Among the special guests attending the event will be a rare visit from UFC President Dana White. What does this translate to? Tonight Randy Jackson ’s America’s Best Dance Crew premiered live on MTV.  Last month the live auditions featured UFC Spokesmodel Rachelle Leah as a backstage interviewer.  However, Rachelle wasn’t apart of the show tonight.  In place of Rachelle tonight was Layla Kayleigh.  So, does this mean the end of Rachelle on America’s Best Dance Crew?  Or was Rachelle simple unable to make the live taping?  Rachelle’s currently on the MTV website, while Layla’s bio is “coming soon”.  Let’s see what happens next episode (which most of you MMA fans won’t watch anyway). Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson Totally Exposed on Howard Stern Show

Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson were on the Sirius Satellite Howard Stern Show yesterday. Tito was very open about the current state of his career with the UFC. Tito stated that he would be leaving the UFC after his next fight. Tito stated that he has been with the UFC for over 10 years now and he’s still making the same money for a fight now as he did back when he started. Tito stated his disappointment with the UFC and particularly Dana White in the payouts that fighters are currently receiving. He stated that some fighters are getting 5 thousand dollars to put their neck on the line, while the UFC is bringing in over 5 million dollars on gate sales only, plus much more from Pay Per View Sales and sales on merchandise at the event.  In the UFC’s defense, the gate number of 5 million seems overstated. UFC 83 St. Pierre vs Serra 2 Almost Completely Sold Out! Be Quick for Ticke

The UFC announced today that almost all of the tickets for UFC 83 featuring Georges St. Pierre versus Matt Serra at the Bell Centre in Montreal have been sold out during the initial presale. This leaves very few tickets available for the public sale this Friday at 12pm ET. As for the usual newsletter presale, it won’t happen, there are too few tickets to allow for a newsletter presale, sorry folks. For those of you who are not lucky enough to get tickets for this event, the UFC is currently looking into alternative viewings of the event. For those of you that remember, about a month ago, the UFC hosted a public viewing at Madison Square Garden. Maybe something similar will be available for the Canadian MMA fans? Good luck getting those tickets yeh.

It is currently rumored that UFC 85 will feature a main event fight of Chuck Liddell versus Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.  The event has been rumored to be confirmed by both camps.  In addition to rumors of Chuck Liddell taking on Mauricio Rua, rumors of BJ Penn and Sean Sherk have also surfaced the internet in the past few weeks.  Maybe we’ll even see Brock Lesnar again? Actors Training for MMA Movie Never Back Down

As you may know, Hollywood is releasing a new MMA movie titled “Never Back Down“. Dan “The Upgrade” Lauzon, is not only the younger brother of outstanding UFC fighter Joe Lauzon’s, but additionally the youngest fighter to ever fight in the UFC. Dan Lauzon made his debut at UFC 64 against Spencer Fisher. At the time, Dan was 18 years, 5 months and 14 days old. Unfortunately for Dan, he lost to Spencer via a TKO 4:38 into the first round. Since his UFC 64 fight, Dan has fought 4 more times, winning 3 of the four fights. In October of last year, Dan defeated David George 2:46 into the first round, in September he defeated Wayne Harnois a whopping 14 seconds into the first round and in June, James Meal in the second round via TKO.
