Something New… Watch UFC 79 Live at an Arena?

The UFC is doing something different this time.  UFC 79 is being held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas Nevada on December 29th 2007.  Although it’s taking place on the West Coast, the East Coast will have the ability to watch the event live at Madison Square Garden on Big Screen TV’s.  Matt Serra will be hosting the “VIP Party”, ticket prices will be $30. So what do you think? Would you go to an arena to watch a UFC event on a big screen tv with a ton of other people? Or would you just pay the money for PPV on your home TV?

Tomasz Drwal to fight David Heath at UFC 81

My buddy over at mmablog.pl (polish mma site) announced that a friend and training partner of Tomasz Drwal stated that Tomasz Drwal will match up with David Heath at UFC 81. For those of you who remember, David Heath fought Babalu at UFC 74, he was a totally bloodly mess and got finished with an anaconda that was held way too long.

Horrible News, MMA Fighter Sam Vasquez Dies After Injury

Horrible news, it was announced yesterday that Houston Texas MMA Fighter Sam Vasque z passed away weeks after being injured at Renegades Extreme Fighting in Texas’ Toyota Center. According to the report, Vasquez was knocked out in the third round of his bout with Vince Libardi. Sam lost consciousness and began to seizure. According to Sherdog.com, after “enduring separate surgeries to remove blood clots from his brain as well as a massive stroke” Sam was discharged from the St. Joseph Medical Center intensive care and later transferred to Hospice. According to the fight sanctioning committee, Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, “To date, the evaluation shows that this event was conducted in compliance with all procedures”. TMZ Captured this video of a paparazzi having some words with a Wu-Tang clan fan.  The paparazzi and the wu-fan battle it out a little in this street fight video.  Both fighters are far from technical, but interesting to watch, tons of holes that could have been exploited… luckily no one got badly hurt…  I really don’t condone street fighting…

Couture Turns Down Nogueira UFC 81 Match

Randy Couture met with Dana White this past Wednesday. Among the topics discussed was a fight between Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 81. According to Tom Hamlin of Yahoo, Couture turned down the offer.  Now, remember, we don’t know the terms of the proposed fight and we don’t know his reasoning for turning down the fight.  Couture suggested that he wants some time to with his newly wed wife, to travel and enjoy his home; “I want to take some time and go on a vacation, spend some time with my wife. We’ve been married a year now and we’ve been together very, very little in that year; it’s been crazy. It’s been difficult on us. Original UFC Badboy Don Frye Gets Dropped in a Street Fight

UFC Legendary fighter Don Frye battles it out in a hotel lobby with boxer Sonny Westbrook (Leland Chapman aka Dog the Bounty Hunter’s son’s bodyguard - wow that’s a long one). You can actually see Leland in the beginning of this flick.. anyway.. Apparently Sonny was popping some stuff about professional wrestling which pissed a drunk Don Frye off. Apparently this video footage is one piece of the action that ensued. North American Mixed Martial Arts Expo - Who Will Be There?

A ton of big names in the MMA industry will be at the 1st North American Mixed Martial Arts Expo (NAMMAE) tonight and tomorrow at the Anaheim Convention Center. Randy Couture, Eddie Bravo, Bruce Buffer will be hosting the event, Joe Stevenson and Amber Nichole Miller will be with the Warrior Wear booth, Kendall Grove and Tito Ortiz will be apart of the Punishment Athletics booth, Clinch Gear will have Dan Henderson and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou at their booth for a meet and greet, Tagg Radio will have Cub Swanson, Lisa King, Gilbert Melendex, Joker Guymon and Jake Shields, Don Frye will be at the Owned Entertainment section, The Tap Out crew will all be there, Mike Swick will be with the Toe2Toe Fight Clothing booth. UFC 80 Rapid Fire - Getting Closer to a Full Card

As we get closer to UFC 79, the details of UFC 80 Rapid Fire are beginning to emerge. It has been known for some time that the main event of the evening will be the interim UFC Lightweight Championship between BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson. We also know that rivals Fabricio Werdum and Gabriel Gonzaga will face off.  The UFC has now announced that it’s going to feature some local talent and new blood for the undercard.  James Lee will take on Alessio Sakara, Per Eklund will take on hard hitting Sam Stout, Paul Kelly will take on Paul Taylor.  The event will go down in Newcastle England, and as you may remember, the UK events are typically broadcasted free in the US.  Rumor has it, CBS and the UFC are currently in negotiations over broadcasting rights.  The event may be free to all if the negotiations soon get settled.

Matt Hughes versus Matt Serra UFC 79 Fight Off!

According to a recent UFC announcement, Matt Serra sustained an injury earlier this week in training for his upcoming UFC 79 fight against Matt Hughes .  While training at his Long Island NY gym, Serra fell to his knees in excruciating pain and was rushed to the hospital.  Serra suffered a herniated disc in his lower back - for those of you who are unfamiliar with this type of injury, the pain can be crippling - especially if it’s pinches the sciatic nerve. “This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” said Serra. “I’ve never had a back injury before; I could hardly get off the MRI table. There is no way I can train through this, and I’m devastated, especially because this was such an important fight. I was looking forward to fighting Matt Hughes. UFC 82 Columbus Ohio Dan Henderson vs. Anderson Silva + Rumored Fight Card

Rumors of UFC 82 events are already out there. UFC 82 will take place at the Nationwide Arena on March 1st 2008 in Columbus Ohio . The main event will be Dan Henderson vs Anderson Silva for the middleweight championship. Rumors of a rematch fight for Matt Hamill and Micheal Bisping are out there. Rumors of Jon Fitch to fight Akihiro Gono also exist. Other fighters that you may see at UFC 82 are Josh Koscheck and Karo Parisyan (hopefully he puts on a more exciting fight than UFC 78).

Rashad Evans and Michael Bisping comment on their UFC 78 main event fight. Rashad states that Bisping was tough as hell and that their fight was one of Bisping’s best fights ever. Evans states that he didn’t preform as well as he wanted to. Bisping responded that he wants to get back to fighting ASAP. He agrees that he made a few mistakes and should have pushed the fight a bit more. Bisping also responds to how he was booed by the Newark NJ crowd and how that would not happen in England.

For those of you who are wondering, will Edith stick around?  There’s a good possibility.  According to Ali Sonoma’s myspace page, Ali is “moving up to bigger and better things”.  She feels that she’s lost sight of her ultimate goal to be a actress and has decided to make some changes in her life to be where she desires. According to a recent quick interview with Corey Hill at UFC 78, MMAMania stated that TUF Contestant  Hill will enter the Octagon at UFC’s Fight Night 12. “Former contestant on season five of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) and 155-pound beanstalk, Corey Hill, will make his UFC debut Wednesday, January 23 at 9 p.m. ET on SpikeTV.”

UFC 78 Who Was Injured? NJSACB Reports…

It’s always interesting to hear about the aftermath of a UFC event.  It’s not surprise that often times fighters walk away with broken bones.  Last Saturday, as reported by NJSACB (New Jersey Athletic Control Board) Joe Doerksen cracked his orbital bone after catching a knee from Ed Herman, while the only other fighter to make the list was Akihiro Gono for a wrist injury.
