USA Eagles Kickoff Busy Summer
2009-05-28 15:41:00
Before I get started, I just wanted to quickly apologize for the lack of updates this week. I’ve been pretty busy at home looking after my newborn daughter, plus things have ramped up a bit at work. This is a huge soccer/rugby weekend and I will find time to keep this website updated. Thanks for ...

Bradley Names 24 To U.S. Squad
2009-05-25 15:06:00
When the English Premier League season ends, there’s only one thing I look forward to as far as soccer goes each summer…the U.S. National Team. The “Nats” will return to action on June 3rd as World Cup Qualifying continues. Currently the U.S. sits on top of the CONCACAF Hexagonal Table and look to build momentum as ...

EPL: Newcastle & Boro Relegated
2009-05-25 14:39:00
Despite a loss to Manchester United, Hull City avoided relegation yesterday. Prior to the start of the season, most pundits assumed that Hull & Stoke would both head right back to the Championship. Combine that with the fact that most pundits felt Fulham would be relegated and that should teach you to never listen to the ...

Site News: Weekend Coverage
2009-05-20 20:23:00
Normally on the weekends, you’ve come to expect certain things here at TryGol.com. Lately I have provided “Expanded Coverage ” of Fulham games & “Twittercast” coverage of Chicago Fire & USA Rugby matches. This weekend will be a bit different though. There is a chance I may have to actually work this Saturday…a rarity for me. So, there will be no Fulham expanded coverage per say. I’ll have some sort of post up Friday but the on going coverage that I normally provide will not happen this week. Sucky I know, but its better you know now rather than me canceling the shit at the last moment. However… I will provide live Twittercast coverage of Fulham vs Everton, provided that I don’t have to work Sunday, which at this point looks to be the case.  The match won’t air live in the United States (8pm delay on Setanta Sports) but you can follow our Twittercast live. If you are unable to find an illegal stream or you have iss...

Schwarzer: We Deserve Europa Spot
2009-05-20 18:55:00
I’ve read comments from various pundits and fans alike, proclaiming that Fulham have been “lucky” this season and perhaps will utterly fail should they win a spot in next season’s Europa League. Don’t tell that to our big Australian keeper. Mark Schwarzer feels Fulham deserves a Europa League spot and it has nothing to do with “luck”. “We’re in this position on merit. It’s not there through luck after 37 games. It’s been the tremendous performances throughout the season that have got us in the position we’re in now.” Schwarzer spent 11 seasons with Middlesbrough before making the switch to Craven Cottage last summer.  The move has paid off as Mark is having one of his best career seasons. “The key for us has been the consistency. We’ve been very fortunate with players not being injured and if there have been injuries they’ve just been minor little knocks along the way. That’s reall...

Last UEFA Cup Final Today
2009-05-20 16:21:00
The UEFA Cup is coming to an end to make way for the new Europa League competition. Gotta admit, today’s final doesn’t exactly seem real “sexy” to me at all. Werder Bremen & Shakhtar Donetsk have arrived in Turkey and I couldn’t give a rats ass. It has nothing to do with the UEFA Cup itself, so don’t even go there. Over the years we have been treated to some fantastic finals. However, Bremen vs Shakhtar does nothing for me. Regardless, it’s the end of an era and the beginning of a new one for the secondary European competition.  For that reason a lone, you may find yourself glued to the TV set this afternoon. I will simply watch the highlights on Fox Soccer Report later tonight. No offense to any Bremen or Shakhtar fans out there, I’m sure you are all very juiced about the game. It will air live in the United States on Fox Soccer Channel starting at 2:30 pm Eastern. If you can’t catch it live, I assume FSC will have a replay...

TryGol.com began using Twitter .com less than 2 months ago. Today, we reached a milestone of sorts. We now have over 1000 followers! Thanks to everyone who use Twitter.com to read our news feed. Twitter works. Our hits have gone up quite a bit since I began using the service, which is sweet. I’ve also met many interesting soccer & rugby fans a long the way, which is an awesome added bonus. Our “Twittercast” coverage of Chicago Fire games seems to be especially popular as I get a ton of feedback every week regarding that. Super 14: Bulls Finish Top of the Table
2009-05-17 05:42:00
The Bulls will enter next weekend’s Super 14 Semifinals as the #1 team in the league following a 27-26 victory over the rival Sharks. This means the Bulls will enjoy home field advantage next weekend as well as for the finals should they get that far. I know my father in-law must be thrilled. Zane Kirchner, ...

Guinness Final: Tigers Reign Supreme
2009-05-17 05:26:00
The London Irish & Leicester Tigers have provided us with 3 fantastic battles this season and unfortunately for London, today’s clash ended in favor of the Tigers. Leicester won their 8th English crown, slipping past the Irish 10-9 in a tense defensive struggle.  Sometimes a 10-9 scoreline in rugby equals a boring ass match. Not the ...

Fire: Still Undefeated
2009-05-17 05:13:00
Much the past few weekends, the Chicago Fire walked away from a game still undefeated. Unlike the past weekends, today’s outcome actually involved a win. Chris Rolfe & Brian McBride scored to lead Chicago to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC at rowdy BMO Field. Following a boring first half, Chicago came out playing like an undefeated ...

Press Release: US Women Travel To Canada
2009-05-16 03:12:00
CHICAGO (May 12, 2009) – The U.S. Women ’s National Team has added a May 25 friendly against Canada in Toronto to replace two previously canceled matches against Japan. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. ET at BMO Field, Canada’s national stadium and home to Toronto FC of Major League Soccer. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel, and fans can follow the match online via ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker. Canada was previously to play host to Japan on May 25, but after the Japanese pulled out of their North American tour, the U.S. will now travel to Canada for the first time since 2001 when the two teams also met in Toronto. That match was played at the old Varsity Stadium and ended in a 2-2 draw in front of 9,023 fans, which at the time was the largest crowd ever to watch the Canadian women’s team in Canada. “I am grateful that we could put together a game on such short notice and want to thank the WPS teams and officials for their flexibility in unique ...

Fulham, Fire & Rugby…Oh My!
2009-05-16 02:41:00
Take  Fulham , add some Fire & sprinkle in a dash of rugby and you have the recipe for Jason’s perfect weekend! But people have their own individual tastes. No matter what you’re hungry for, I got you covered with this weekend’s U.S. TV Broadcast schedule. Setanta Sports will take care of two of my “meals” on Saturday. First my beloved Cottagers travel to St.James Park to take on Newcastle and minutes after the final whistle blows, Setanta will air the Guinness Premiership finals. At 4pm I allow my wife to re-gain access to the television as I head to the computer to watch the Chicago Fire vs Toronto FC game via MLSLive.tv. I’ll continue to say this, MLS Live is the best $20 per season any MLS fan could spend, especially since that is the only way I can watch the majority of Chicago’s games this season. Other weekend highlights include: -Manchester United versus Arsenal. Not only is this a Big 4 battle, but Man U could wrap up the league...

Guinness Final: Can London Tame The Tigers?
2009-05-15 17:48:00
The London Irish head into their first Guinness Premiership Final at Twickenham on Saturday as huge underdogs. Can the upstarts defeat one of the most successful clubs in English rugby history? The Irish & Leicester Tigers will battle for the Guinness Premiership Championship. The Final airs LIVE on Setanta Sports (12:30 Eastern U.S.) Being a supporter of the London Wasps, I’m always bitter when my boys fair to reach the finals. That doesn’t change the fact that I’m very much looking forward to what could be a history making day at Twickenham. The other club with “London” in their name are looking to win their first Premiership championship. The oddsmakers are not giving them much of a chance but I beg to differ (and not just because of my hatred of Leicester). They say in sports its tough to beat a club three times in one season and that is what Leicester is hoping to accomplish tomorrow. The two clubs tangled for the first time this season way bac...

We are just 18 days away until the British & Irish Lions kick off their 2009 tour of South Africa . I love when the Lions go on tour…its a big deal. In my world, it ranks just below the World Cup as far as the level of importance…thats my view anyways. TryGol.com will ramp up Lions ...

MLS Wrap: Another Draw For The Fire
2009-05-10 17:48:00
Another game, another draw for the Chicago Fire . Speaking as a Fire supporter, this is getting very frustrating. The Fire remain undefeated but had to settle for a 1-1 draw versus the hated New England Revolution last night at Toyota Park. As a whole, you could say either the teams were either very evenly matched or ...

How Many Ways Can You Get Screwed???

Chelsea were basically screwed out of an appearance in the Champions League Final yesterday and all I really have to say about that is… HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! It?s Go Time For Chelsea & FCB
2009-05-06 19:14:00
Hopefully today’s second leg will provide more drama than yesterday’s thrashing. Chelsea welcome FC Barcelona to Stamford Bridge tonight as the two European giants hook up with a trip to Rome and a date with Manchester United on the line. The teams will enter the match deadlocked at 0-0. I still feel the advantage lies with Barcelona, ...
