When Does A Draw Equal A Loss?
2008-03-29 19:09:00 When you are mid table or higher, sometimes you feel good about a draw. When you are trying to avoid relegation versus the worst team in the Barclays Premier League, a draw feels like a loss. Fulham needed a road victory today versus Derby County, not only to snap their 18 month road winless streak, but ... More About: Football , Soccer , Loss , Equal , Setanta Sports

USA To Host #1 Argentina In June
2008-03-28 18:23:00 As expected, U.S. Soccer announced today that they have added another June friendly and the team they will be hosting is the #1 ranked team in the world. Argentina will visit Giants Stadium on June 8th to take on the Americans. The match versus Argentina will cap off an intense series of “warm up” matches that includes a visit to Wembley to take on England & a date with 4th ranked Spain. This will be an awesome test for the Americans and a great atmosphere in what is sure to be a nearly sold out Giants Stadium. The two nations last met during the 2007 Copa America, with Argentina defeating USA “B” 4-1. Eddie Johnson scored the lone USA Goal. The match will air live on ESPN Classic & Univision, starting at 7:30 pm Eastern. The Argentina friendly will be the final tune-up prior to taking on that world soccer juggernaut, Barbados, on June 15th in CONCACAF Qualifying. More About: Host
Hong Kong Sevens: Clever Leads USA To Victory
2008-03-28 15:05:00 Todd Clever helped the USA Eagles jump out quickly versus Tunisia early today, but rather than coasting to an easy victory, Tunisia rallied before falling to the Americans 26-21 in the closest Day 1 match. The U.S. were pretty heavy favorites against Tunisia and just barely won. This proves that you can’t take anyone lightly when it comes to Sevens Rugby. But, a win is a win, so the U.S. will head into their Day 2 fixtures undefeated. The only “shocker” during Day 1 of the Men’s Tournament was France, who have struggled in the IRB Sevens World Series this year, knocked off Tonga 21-7. Canada nearly pulled off an upset today, as they got up early on England only for the Brits to stage a comeback and double up Canada 24-12. Last year the U.S. earned the plate title, so a much better effort this year. The United States Women have to be the favorites heading into the 2009 Women’s Rugby World Cup Sevens. Hong Kong Sevens: Day 1 Re-Cap
2008-03-28 13:58:00 The 2008 Hong Kong Sevens began yesterday with the Women’s competition and Day 1 of the Men’s Tournament began early this morning. The Lady Eagles were very impressive yesterday, going 3-0 and earning a spot in the semifinals today versus France. The U.S. defeated Netherlands 36-7, Hong Kong 33-7 & Arabian Gulf 45-7. “Day one at the Hong Kong tournament was a success for us. We worked on our game on both offense and defense, which showed well in scores,” USA Women’s Sevens Coach Julie McCoy said. “Tomorrow’s task is convincing the players to continue to play team ball.” Good luck to the ladies today as they hope to advance to the finals. As for the Men, the United States will take to the pitch in the final match of Day 1 later this morning, taking on Tunisia. The Eagles were placed in Pool A New Zealand, Chinese Taipei & of course, Tunisia. The U.S. will take on Chinese Taipei tomorrow and will once again close out the day’s competition, ta...

United States-3 Poland-0
2008-03-27 02:49:00 The United States dominated Poland this afternoon, winning the match 3-0. Fact of the matter is, the score should have been 6-0. Let?s Take A Look At My Other Team?
2008-03-24 19:15:00 As Fulham supporter, this has been a rough season for me. The ups and downs…mostly downs, have taken its toll on me. But there is a glimmer of hope for my soccer sanity. 2008-03-23 16:22:00 Well the road losing streak continued yesterday as the Whites fell to Newcastle 2-0. EDF Energy Cup Semi’s Highlight Great Rugby Weekend
2008-03-21 14:31:00 Millennium Stadium will be rocking tomorrow as rugby fans will be treated to a cracking double header in Cardiff featuring the semi-finals of the EDF Energy Cup. In the opener, Saracens will take on Ospreys, while Leicester will take on my London Wasps in the 2nd semi-final. Both matches will be televised in the U.S. on Setanta Sports, with the opener airing live and the Wasp/Leicester battle will be a tape delayed broadcast. The Wasps are at full strength this weekend as all their international players are back. I believe winning the EDF Energy Cup is important for confidence reasons, so look for the Wasps to play with a lot of passion on Saturday. As for a prediction, I’m going to say Cipriani & Lewsey go nuts and the Wasps cruise to an easy victory. I’m hoping Saracens win the other semi-final so we can have a “derby” finals at Twickenham. If you get Setanta Sports, there is some good rugby being televised this weekend. In fact, if you were up really ... More About: Great , Weekend , Rugby , Semi
Olympic Dreamin’: USA Heading To Beijing
2008-03-21 05:34:00 Freddy Adu’s mastery of the free kick continued to shine tonight in Nashville as the United States U-23 National Team defeated Canada 3-0 to not only move on to the finals on Sunday versus Honduras, but more importantly, qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games. Freddy scored on free kicks in the 27th & 48th minute. The second one was pretty sweet if you ask me. Freddy seems to be hitting his stride, his time in Portugal has served the young man well. Sacha Kjestan added a goal late in the match to seal the deal. Canada will take on Guatemala Sunday with 3rd Place on the line. So the United States & Honduras will represent the CONCACAF region at the Olympic Games. This is great news for U.S. Soccer, as we missed out on the games 4 years ago. Keep in mind that 3 players from the senior national team will be added to the roster and Landon Donovan has already made it known that he would like to be selected. Wonder if we can convince Brian McBride to come out of international re... More About: Beijing , Heading
Australian Scott Johnson To Be Named USA Eagle Head Coach
2008-03-21 05:18:00 According to BBC Wales and American Rugby News, USA Rugby CEO Nigel Melville will name former Wales Caretaker Coach Scott Johnson as the new head coach of the USA Eagles this weekend. Most recently, Johnson served as an assistant coach for the Australian National Team. Johnson recently turned down an opportunity to be a skills coach with the Cardiff Blues and was also linked with a similar role with the Ospreys. During his playing days, he captained the U21 Australian team and played for New South Wales. This will be the first head coaching position for the 44 year old. I wish Scott the best of luck. You have a great reputation and I’m excited to see what you will bring to our Eagles. He will get his first taste of international rugby this June during the Churchill Cup. More About: Head

Becks vs Lando? Well, It Just Might Happen!
2008-03-20 15:21:00 I think its still up for debate whether these two massive ego’s get along in Los Angeles, but what I do know is that these two super stars may get to meet each other on the pitch at Wembley Stadium at the end of May. It was announced this morning that the U.S. Men’s National Team will travel to England to take on the Brits at famed Wembley Stadium. We all knew this would be announced at some point and now it’s official. This will be the first trip for the United States to England since 1994 and their first friendly versus England since 2005, when the English defeated the Americans at Soldier Field. I remember that game well because Clint Dempsey scored. The match is on May 28th at 3pm Eastern. It will air on ESPN Classic & Univision. I know one thing for sure, I’m going home early from work that day. Both sides are tuning up for World Cup Qualifiers, which begin this summer for the U.S. I’m sticking with my early prediction of a USA victory. More About: Becks
Houston Wins & A Huge Sports Thursday!
2008-03-20 14:39:00 Let the madness begin! Personally, today has to be one of the most jam packed sports days in a long time. I’m going to start and end the day with the NCAA tournament, with some soccer in the middle. And thanks to high speed internet, I’ll not miss a thing even though I’ll be at work for part of it. Before we get to that though, I just wanted to give yall a quick result from last night. The Houston Dynamo moved on to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup by defeating Municipal 3-1 behind 2 goals from Dwayne De Rosario. Now back to today. The NCAA Basketball tournament begins this afternoon and pretty much goes on non-stop for the next 4 days. I watch all the games but being a die-hard Notre Dame fan, I’m really looking forward to the Irish taking the court tonight versus George Mason. I’m a bit nervous because of course, George Mason had that outstanding run to the Final 4 a couple years ago. I feel ND will pull it out though and unlike past NC... DC United Moves On; Houston Hopes To Do The Same
2008-03-20 00:29:00 Devon McTavish continued his stellar play last night, as he helped lead DC United into the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup with a 5-0 (6-1 agg) victory over Harbour View FC. DC United dominated the match, especially in the 2nd half as the Jamaican side seemed like they ran out of steam. Maybe it was the colder weather? Either way, congrats to DC on a great victory and best of luck in the semi’s. Two time defending MLS Champs Houston Dynamo hopes to pull off the same magic tonight as they host CSD Municipal at Robertson Stadium. Kick off is at 8:30 pm Eastern and you can check out all the action on Fox Soccer Channel. More About: Hopes , Moves
Churchill Cup Fixtures Announced
2008-03-19 01:15:00 It may only be March, but I’m already looking forward to the month of June. My birthday falls on June 21st, but thats not why I’m excited. I’m excited because Churchill Cup Finals in Chicago will be played on my birthday! That would be one hell of a gift (hint: pay attention wife) on the day I turn 33. The 2008 Churchill Cup schedule has been released. The 6th edition of this tournament features 2007 champs England Saxons, Argentina, Ireland “A”, Scotland “A”, Canada & of course, the USA Eagles. For whoever takes over as USA Head Coach, this will be his first high profile competition. I believe the Churchill Cup will be televised this year on Setanta Sports, so everyone will have a chance to check out the action. Look for the Eagles to perform much better this year than last year. The pool stage will be held in Canada, while the finals will be held at Toyota Park, home of the Chicago Fire. Barclays Churchill Cup Schedule Saturday, June... More About: Fixtures
CONCACAF U-23 Semi-Final Fixtures Set
2008-03-18 16:39:00 Well the Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament Semi -Final s are set, including kick off times for this Thursday in Nashville. The opening semi-final match will see Guatemala taking on Honduras. The action begins at 6pm Eastern. Then at 9pm Eastern, the United States U-23’s take to the pitch, hosting Canada. This match has me a little bit worried as the U.S. team has played with very little passion, while Canada had to fight their way into the semi-finals. The Americans will need to “grow up” quickly if they are to avoid an upset. Apparently the boys aren’t getting a long very well in camp. Well tough shit, grow up and get the job done Thursday. Representing your country at the Olympic Games is a dream for most. You have the opportunity to do just that. Both matches can be seen on Fox Soccer Channel, ESPN Deportes & ESPN360.com. The semi-final winners will not only meet this Saturday for the championship, but both would also qualify for the Olympics. More About: Fixtures
Rugby Canada Has A New Leader
More articles from this author:2008-03-18 15:32:00 Rugby Canada has announced the hiring of former New Zealand All Black Kieran Crowley. Crowley takes over as the head coach of the National Team, replacing Ric Suggitt. Suggitt’s contract was not renewed after the Rugby World Cup and even though he was invited to re-apply, Suggitt declined. Crowley lead the U-19 All Blacks to a World Championship last year and spent 9 years total coaching New Zealand provincial side Taranaki, where he had stints as both assistant & head coach. As for his All Black career, he appeared 35 times between 1983 & 1991. He played over 200 times for Taranaki and retired in 1994. “My impression of them (Canada) at the moment is that they are a very physical team and they have very good set-piece plays,” Crowley said. “There is still work to be done in those areas but they have done well and the area that possibly needs improvement I think is the vision or the ability to change things when things are not as structured as they sh...
