Steve Flesch leads Turning Stone Resort Championship...
2007-09-23 17:41:00 This week's Turning Stone Resort Championship in Verona, New York has turned into a battle ground the the world's top players such as Steve Flesch, Carl Patterson, Charles Warren, and Parker McLachlin. (yeah that was a joke!) With Flesch posting a 66 on Saturday and heading into round for with a 4 shot lead. If he can keep it together, this will be Flesch's 2nd win this season after winning the Reno-Tahoe Open in August. Flesch finished 71st in the FedEx cup points race with 90,620. Nike's New SQ Sumo Irons
2007-09-20 18:15:00 The Nike SQ Sumo irons will be hitting stores near you on November 1."We have taken the premise of geometry that we started with in the original Nike SQ driver and are evolving it across our club line," said Tom Stites, director of club creation for Nike Golf, in a media release. "With this new geometry and its high MOI, we have created what we believe is the most forgiving iron Nike Golf has ever developed." With extreme perimeter weighting, the SQ Sumo irons have an ultra thin Cryo Steel face plate on the 4-7 irons to increase distance and make them more forgiving. The SQ Sumo irons also have a polymer insert to reduce vibrations at impact and improve feel. The clubs feel extremely solid at impact, even on shots that were mis-hit, and getting the ball up and flying high was very easy. After hitting several 7-iron shots, I noticed that I was hitting 10 to 15 yards farther — and much higher — than I usually do. So for players looking for maximum game improvement, the SQ Sumos se...
Will there ever be a 5th Major Championship on the PGA Tour?
2007-09-20 07:40:00 I've heard this question asked and kicked around many times, and the usual answer is; no, there won't ever be a 5th major added to the PGA Tour . Reasons for this answer vary, but the popular answer seems to be that golf is based on history and tradition, and you can't just create a tournament in this era, declare it a Major , and gain instant acceptance from players and fans alike. While I do agree with this rationale, it doesn't defend the answer of "no" to the question, Will there be a 5th major? The Open, Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Champion ship tournaments were not all created in the same PGA season. Each of these majors had their turn at being the "new major on the block". Was the Masters an instant hit the first year it was played...hard to say, but one thing is for certain, tradition and history is not an instant trait. You can't create a golf tournament, call it a Major, and have it accepted immediately. However, like everything in life, change happens. Just be... More About: PGA Tour
Masters invites top 30 on Fedex & money list.
2007-09-19 21:20:00 No longer will the PGA Tour players need to win a tournament to receive an invite to the 2008 Mast ers . It's been announced that the Masters will invite the top 30 players on the 2007 FedEx points list, as well as the top 30 players on the PGA money list. It has not been decided if the U.S. Open or the Open Championship (British) will follow the Masters lead, however it's nice to see that at least one major championship is embracing the new FedEx format and rewarding those who have done well during it's inaugural season.http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/new s/story?id=3026163 More About: Money , List , Aster
The FedEx Cup a Huge Success!
2007-09-18 06:16:00 Well as much as I hate to admit it, Tim Finchem and those in charge of setting up the now infamous FedEx Cup managed to get a darn good showing for the inaugural year. I have to admit that I was skeptical at the beginning of the 2007 season. First off, I didn't quite grasp exactly how the points system was going to work, especially when the playoffs came around, but once things started to get interesting a with a couple of months remaining, I finally had to concede that the FedEx system was doing exactly what it was designed to do, get the best players, to play the best golf, against each other, week in and week out. We got to see Tiger and Phil go head to head on more than one occasion. Young players like Zach Johnson and Chucky Howell III gave us a preview of the young talent that will still be trying to beat Tiger in 10 years. And in the end, Tiger wins, like we didn't see that coming. It would have been nice if Phil could have given Mr. Woods a better run in the Tour Cha... More About: Success , Huge
Calling Tiger Out...The New Fad?
2007-09-16 05:39:00 I know we all talk about Tiger a lot, but let's face it, he's the biggest star in the sporting world at the moment, so there's no shortage of suitable material up for discussion. This won't be a long post, but I'm really starting to get sick of the pre-occupation of some PGA players who seem obsessed with calling Tiger out. By that I mean players saying "Tiger's not unbeatable", or "I can catch Tiger on Sunday when he's got a 5 shot lead", or "Tiger's not as good as everyone thinks". Are these guys on drugs? These are the Woody Austin's, Sergio Garcia's, and Steven Ames' of the world....and if we do a little math, it seems that every time one of the aforementioned golfers has decided to open their pie holes and trash talk Tiger, they end up disappearing from the tournament they had determined was theirs to win, and we see them collecting their 38th place check. If I've learned one thing in my life, it's that you sure as hell better not trash talk another athlete, u... More About: Calling

Will Eastlake be and Embarassment?
2007-09-11 18:19:00 With the condition of the Eastlake greens in question, will this course prove to be a dud for the 10 million dollar championship this weekend? According to the course superintendent, the greens are improving and players will be allowed to practice on all but 3 of the greens. Starting Tuesday, they can play a regular practice round except on the par-3 second, the par-4 13th and par-5 15th. Those greens will remain off limits. When asked about the speed of the greens, he stated that some areas might be a 4 on the Stimp meter, while areas around the hole locations could be as high as 8 or 9, but it was difficult to give an exact stimp number because of the variances in green condition. While players have outwardly expressed their concern over the condition of the course for what amounts to anther major championship, is mother nature the culprit, or did course management not do enough to keep the greens from getting in such poor condition?. So the question remains, Will Eastlake be...
Your Bunker Play Sucks!!!!
2007-09-10 21:12:00 It's ok..most of our bunker play sucks, but we're going to fix that right now. Here are some great tips to help you get the ball out of the sand and on the dance floor every time. None of this is new, groundbreaking information, but it's a simple list that might help some of you who have always struggled from bunkers or lost your sand game....1. Feel the sand. You can't use your club obviously, but dig your feet in and feel the consistency of the sand. Is it soft, wet underneath? Is there lots of sand, or is it fairly shallow? Sand conditions will determine which wedge to use and where you want your club to enter the sand.2. Ball sitting up in a nice fluffy bunker lie, use a wedge club with more bounce and hit few inches behind the ball. This will let the ball fly out of the bunker on a cushion of sand and land softly on the green.3. Hard packed sand / wet sand lie..use a sand wedge with less bounce. This will help you avoid hitting behind the ball and having the club b... More About: Play , Sucks
Tiger Woods Wins BMW Invitational with a final round 63
2007-09-10 00:14:00 Tiger Woods took over the FedEx Cup points lead with a 2 shot lead at the BMW Invitational and a final round 63 Sunday. With Aaron Baddeley and Steve Stricker right on his heels, Tiger was able to pull away on the back 9 and open up a 2 shot lead going into the final hole of the Championship, leaving Aaron Baddeley needing to hole out his approach shot on the 18th to tie. Baddeley came up short and only managed par, giving woods the win. Tiger will be #1 in the points race going into the final round at Eastlake next weekend, and the final round of the FedEx Cup Championship. Steve Stricker will be 2nd in points, with Phil Mickelson sitting in 3rd. With the way the points stand, if Mickelson finishes first at Eastlake and Tiger can pull off second, Tiger will still win the FedEx Cup over Phil Mickelson by 20 points. Next week is going to be as exciting as any major we've seen this year. More About: Tiger Woods , Final , Tiger , Round
Phil Mickelson withdraws from the BMW Championship
More articles from this author:2007-09-06 20:05:00 After winning the Deutsche Bank Cham pion ship and taking the lead in the FedEx Cup points standings, Phil Mickelson has withdrawn from this week’s BMW Championship.“This decision was not an easy one to make,” said Mickelson, “and in no way is meant as disrespectful to the Tour or “sending a message” to anyone. I’ve talked for weeks about needing to find a balance between my game, my business affairs and my family and now is the time for me to take some time off.”Mickelson has played four events in the last 30 days and has steadily improved his performance on his way back from a debilitating mid-season wrist injury. Just prior to the Deutsche Bank win he shared seventh place at The Barclays. Only the next four players on the FedEx Cup points list – Steve Stricker, Tiger Woods, K.J. Choi and Rory Sabbatini – can possibly overtake Mickelson this week.“I’m really looking forward to returning to the Tour Championship next week in Atlanta with the momentum I’ve be...
