Phil Baroni not fighting in Sengoku??
2008-02-10 08:07:00 Five Ounce of Pain reports today that Phil Baroni has signed with EliteXC. His first fight for EliteXC is confirmed and will be agianst Kala Kolohe Hose on March 15. There is no doubt that this would conflict with a fight in Sengoku against Sanae Kikuta. The problems with having 2 management teams were mentioned on FightOpinion soon after the fight was announced. As you remember there was some controversy around the announcement of Baroni for Sengoku. There is more likely more controversy to come...It would not be good for Sengoku to lose a fight like that just a month away from their first event. The card as it looks now:Sanae Kikuta 26-6-3 vs. 10-8-0 Phil Baroni (?)Makoto Takimoto 4-3-0 vs. 15-10-0 Evangelista "Cyborg" SantosKazuo Misaki 18-8-2 (1NC) vs. 13-1-1 Siyar BahadurzadaHidehiko Yoshida 7-5-1 vs. 20-5-0 Josh BarnettAlso participating:-Ryo Kawamura 7-1-2-Takanori Gomi 27-3-0-Fabricio Monteiro (?) 16-6-0 More About: Fighting
The Pancrase Ring-girls
2008-02-10 01:01:00 Ok, so I feel a little guilty after Fightlinker's review of the Pancrase Ring -girl (maybe both of them). Either way, I feel that my skills as a photographer might have influenced the reviewer. Here is a photo gallery taken by professionals: http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight/other /photo/2008020901/index.htmlThe Pancrase girls are my personal favorites (at least they were last year). As far as I know, Pancrase was the only organization to stick with the same girls. Why? -They do a very good job. More About: Girls
2/22 DEEP Impact 34 - Hisae Watanabe injured, fight cancelled
2008-02-09 06:02:00 Hisae Watanabe and Motoyuki Takinishi got injured during training, due to this there are some changes to this card. This fight is cancelled:Hisae Watanabe 19-6-0 vs. 6-4-2 Yasuko TamadaToshiaki Kitada will fight Isao Terada instead of Motoyuki Takinishi. It is a bit disappointing that the Watanabe fight is cancelled, I was looking forward to it, luckily there is the 1-day tournament that makes up for it. Sumo Video - A Great Fight
2008-02-09 02:50:00 Ok, I am not going to make a habit of this and I have considered whether to post this for a long time. But the last sumo tournament featured a great fight between 2 Yokozuna (grand champions). They met on the last day and were fighting it out for the Emprors Cup. This is the first time since 2002 (Musashimaru vs. Takanohana) that two Yokozuna meet on the last day to fight for the title.Sumo went through a lot of controversy in 2007, but this should be a great start to 2008. Hope you enjoy the video. And yes... I am a big fan of Sumo as well as MMA... Hakuho (on the left) is 192cm weight 155kg. Asashoryu (one of the greatest Yokozunas of all time) is 185cm and 145 kg. 2/14 SmackGirl - World ReMix Tournament 2008
2008-02-09 00:23:00 This is the fight setup for SmackGirl on Valentines Day. Su Hi Ham is the last fighter in the Lightweight tournament. The Korean could cause problems for most of these fighters as long as the fights don?t go too much to the ground. Her most notable win was against Hisae Watanabe, a fight which was mostly fought on their feet. The openweight tournament sees the addition of Tama-chan and Megumi Yabushita (both on a 4 fight losing streak). No doubt they will be looking to put a stop to the losing streak. Should be a very good event!Openweight Tournament Fights:Hitomi Akano 11-5-0 vs. 13-13-0 Megumi YabushitaAtsuko Emoto 1-1-0 vs. 16-13-0 ?Tama-chan? 3/28 Shooto - Back to Our Roots 8 - Baret Yoshida Returns!
2008-02-08 14:07:00 The Shooto card for March 28 is looking very good. Today they confirmed Baret Yoshida 's opponent for his return to shooto after 6 years absence. No doubt the fans will be looking forward to seeing him back. His opponent for the return? None other than Hatsu Hioki. This will be a fight I am really looking forward to! Also on the card, Akitoshi Tamura puts his title on the line against Hideki Kadowaki. Kadowaki is no easy opponent, last year he choked out Rumina Sato with a Kadowaki-special. Can he do it agian?Other fighters to mention, Tenkei Fujimiya, Lion Takeshi, Masakatsu Ueda (fighting Koetsu Okazaki!). I thought Back to Our Roots 7 was a pretty average card, but this one is awesome!Main Event:Akitoshi Tamura 11-5-2 vs. 12-7-2 Hideki KadowakiBaret Yoshida 5-5-1 vs. 14-3-1 Hatsu HiokiMasakatsu Ueda 7-0-1 vs. 5-0-1 Koetsu OkazakiTenkei Fujimiya 7-2-2 vs. Hiroshi NakamuraRookie Lightweight Tournament:Kenichiro Marui vs. Hiroshige TanakaAlso participating:"Lion" Takeshi Inoue 14-2-0

2008-02-06 14:17:00 Mark Munt signs with Hustle. As you might remember, Mark Hunt was a guest of the Pro-wresting organization last year. Now he has signed with them, and will make his debut as a pro-wrestler later this year. What this means for his MMA career, I am not sure about, but mixing pro-wrestling and MMA is not unusual in Japan.http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fight /other/headlines/wrestling/20080206-00000 018-spnavi_ot-fight.html More About: Signs , Mark
Cage Force Tournament - Who is RYOTA?
2008-02-06 14:11:00 One of the contestants in the bantamweight tournament I knew absolutely nothing about... Except the name, RYOTA. Today, I decided to do some research to try to find out a bit about the "mystery" contestant in the Cage Force Bantamweight tournament. His Cage Force profile (http://www.g-c-m.net/fighter/ryota/index .html)lists these facts:-MMA Record 2-0-0 (1 KO (it's a TKO), and 1 submission)-Kingdom grapple record 14-0-2 (12 submissions)-2005 The Streetfighter Catch Wrestling champion-2007 World catch wrestling runner upHis MMA fights are in DEEP: http://mma.client.jp/RYOTA.html-DEEP 16 vs. Takehiko Ueno - Won by TKO, punches from back mountposition Round 1, 1:44-DEEP 24 vs. Tsuyoshi (or Takeshi) Yamasaki - Won by arm-bar, Round 1,2:03 Both these fights were on the under-card, and not listed on Sherdog (Ihave not found any English sources that have recorded these fights). Yahya complains about the kick
2008-02-06 14:04:00 Yahya has complained about the kick in the Yamoto "Kid" vs. Yahya NYE fight, FRG has decided to let the result stand.Make of it what you want... The kick was illegal, there can be no doubt about that, and "Kid" pretty much had the fight sealed at that moment. In my mind that makes the kick unnecessary and the result should have been the same as the Misaki/Akiyama contest.http://sportsnavi.yahoo.co.jp/fig ht/other/headlines/etc/20080206-00000020- spnavi-fight.html More About: Kick , Yahya

3/5 Sengoku - Yoshida fights Barnett/Cyborg loses
2008-02-03 08:40:00 Sengoku has confrimed , Josh Barnett will take on Hihiko Yoshida . FightOpinon was the first site I read the rumors. A lot of sites (including me) thought Roger Gracie would be Yoshida's opponent. This will be Barnett's long awaited return to MMA, but he has been competing in catch wrestling and will have a pro-wresting fight before this, so ring-rust should hopefully not be an issue. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM BACK!The Sengoku card is looking very strong! There no worries for "Cyborg ", but he lost to Gegard Mousashi by TKO in the 1st round. I have not seen the fight, so dont know too much. From Sherdog's report there should be nothing to worry about, either way, he has just over 1 month to reset and get ready for another fight against another very tough opponent in Takimoto. 1/30 Pancrase Shining Tour 1 - Pictures
2008-01-30 16:31:00 Another good night of fighting, thanks to Pancrase . This time they had 2 titles on the line (manged to confuse me as one fight was said to be a semi-final). Either way... For me... My favorites didn't do that well... I got in a bit late, just got there in time to watch Windy Tomomi vs. Emi Tomimatsu. Why? Cause the first to fights on the main card took all of 2 minutes... One of the fighters I really wanted to watch, Seiya Kawahara improved to 4-0. His next fight, I will be there on time! I would appreciate if he gave me more than 28 seconds though. So, for the fights I did get to watch. Windy Tomomi was too good for Emi Tomimatsu. After the 2nd round of punishment Emi Tomimatsu could not continue. From what I could see, this was due to a kick to the stomach region while she was on the ground. She was carried out on a streacher, and I hope she recovers quickly. The fight between Daisuke Hanazawa13 and Wataru Takahashi was sloppy and a deserved draw.Killer Bee fighter Yuichi Ikari (m... Paul McVeigh interview
2008-01-27 01:13:00 My first interview. Paul McVeigh is going to fight in the Cage Force bantamweight tournament this year, this will be his first fight in Japan and hopefully he will make an impact and it will be interesting to see what the Cage Warriors champion can do here.(All photos are copyright Robert Swann/Cage Warriors) JM: Congratulations on making the Cage Force tournament! Have seen in interviews that you wanted to fight in Japan, and now you get a chance, what should the Japanese fans expect from you?PM: An aggressive Irish midget with interesting hair attacking anyone he is locked in a cage with. Ill try not to attack the referee but I make no promises. JM: Have you been to Japan before?PM: Yeah last year I was staying with a friend and was able to visit Tokyo, Osaka, Hiroshima and Miyajima. I have traveled a bit and Japan is my favourite place so far. The Japanese people like otaku, in Scotland they beat me up and steal my comics.JM: Do you have any rituals you go through before a fight?... More About: Interview

1/26 Shooto "Back to Our Roots 07"- RESULTS
2008-01-26 12:30:00 Shooto had their first event of the year. The event will probably be mostly remembered as being the farewell for their star Akira Kikuchi. He has chosen to retire at the age of 29, without giving any reason (to my knowledge). The previous Shooto middleweight champion lost his title to Shinya Aoki in February 2006. He retires with a record of 11-4, 2 of the losses coming to Shinya Aoki. The main event was the fight between Toida and Hioki, Hioki got a much needed victory and a boost up the rankings.
