South Carolina churches to allow gambling ?

Yes you have read the title correctly . Gambling for charity in churches would become legal here in South Carolina , my home state, under a bill that has been approved by the State Senate. I say fine and dandy myself, they been playing bingo games to raise money for ages and I don't really see much of a difference. This new legislation would let churches and other nonprofit groups host card games along with other casino games to raise money. The bill will exempt them from South Carolina 's 200-year-old law that prohibits dice and card games. Churches here have always preached against gambling, but I'll wager to say that they will be holding weekly games if the Governor passes this bill. I can almost imagine going down to the church to play some Texas Holdem or some BlackJack...on second thought, I don't think I can. lolI don't think the poker bill will have much luck of passing when and if it reaches Governor Mark Sanford's desk myself .&...

I grew up playing rummy with my mom and brothers . My dad would play sometimes , but my mom was really the rummy wiz in our house . After I grew up and got married , I found out that the wife just loves the game . So a few nights a week we'd get us a gin game going and have a pretty good time .As the years passed and having a family of my own , the wife and I taught our three children the game of gin rummy . Friday nights was always my poker night , but come Saturday it was time to gather around the table with the family and play some rummy . Those were some good times around that old kitchen table. With Super Tuesday being tomorrow , I thought it might be a good time to refresh everyone's mind on where all the remaining candidates stand on online poker and gambling in general . Technically it is still not illegal under federal law to play poker online in the United States. (Though a few states do have laws against it.) Charity Poker Tournament News

Just wanted to let everyone know the outcome for the 5Th Street Charity Ball yesterday . We had 68 players show up to help the Make a Wish Foundation and we raised $136.00 for the children . That may not sound like a lot of money , but through the months the money does add up . I hope to soon be getting the total amount raised to date . I do want to congratulate one Micky08 who won the game . Wear that new accolade with pride .I got busted out fairly early myself when I was dealt the hooks. The blinds were at 20 and I raised to 100 and had one caller . The flop came K-A-K and I checked , as did the caller . A lot of folk have been frustrated with how slow and all she has been for the last month or so, myself included, but the new servers have now been installed and are up and running . The Women's Poker Hall of Fame

It's been long over due in my opinion , but there are plans for an early February induction of the first four members to the Women's Poker Hall of Fame . The first four ladies who will be inducted are Susie Isaacs, Barbara Enright, Linda Johnson and Marsha Waggoner. Congratulations ladies .Susie Isaacs gained poker fame at the 1996 WSOP when she won her first bracelet in the Ladies stud event. She then went on to make WSOP history by winning back-to-back bracelets in the event when she won again in the 1997 WSOP. Isaacs has a distinguished career of wins and cashes that span over 20 years in poker .Barbara Enright's career spans over 30 years. She was the first and only lady to ever be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame. I've been reading a lot of forums lately and I'm seeing a lot of talk out there about rude and discourteous players . While I know it can be a touchy subject , I'm going to list my opinion on poker etiquette . 1. Be nice - It is not the dealer’s fault you missed that straight , and it sure ain't Imafish's fault . Don’t yell , swear or laugh at them , instead spend that time thinking of how you might change your game plan to beat them in the long run . Remember that Poker used to be known as a Gentlemens game , lets try and keep it that way......2. Know the basics - Beginners don't need to know every aspect of the game such as odds and outs , but at least know hand rankings and basic play before sitting down with others. Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/22

Hello folk . Didn't have a lot that happened at the House of Poker Blues over the weekend other than the league game at Nordica Poker . The league game this past Saturday was pot-limit 7 card stud . It was a small field , only six of us , but what a battle it turned out to be . After two hours of solid play , with just a bit of luck on a couple hands , I managed to win yet another of the league games .There's not but seven games left for this season , and it looks as though I have all but wrapped up the season championship , but that doesn't mean you can't still join the games , we'd love to have everyone come out and play . The games are played on a friendly manner and is some very solid poker for the most part . It's also a good way to learn the different poker games at a low cost , only $2.20 buy-ins . I thought I'd post what the top three Democrats stand with online gambling is . As far as I know it's pretty much a washout with the Republicans. I've heard McCain , Huckabee and Romney all say that they don't see how the internet could ever be regulated....First off we have Edwards . I like Edwards and where he stands on most issues, but he does oppose legalization of online gambling and doubts that it can be controlled. Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/15

I'm a day late with this post so my apologies, but I was a might busy around the house yesterday . I did manage to get a couple little things accomplished over the weekend though , the first was winning the league game that we hold over at Nordica Poker . :-)The big thing I got done was changing up the Charity Ball game we have at Carbon . The table was getting a might old looking and it needed a new look . Something more in line with the newest software . So I got hold of my affiliate manager Shane from over there, and he got right on the ball with the changes for me . The table will now be a nice blue color with a new slogan on the table and they'll be a guitar standing up in the corner of the room . Weekend News at the House of Poker - 1/07

I don't have a lot to report on today other than we did have our monthly Charity Ball Tournament over at Carbon Poker to help the Make a Wish Foundation this past Saturday . I'd like to say we had a huge turnout , but I can't really . We did have a few more players than last months tourney with 57 players making the game though . With half the buy-ins going to the children , that came to 147.00 raised for the foundation . I'm hoping that we get a bigger turnout in next months game . ;-) I had a terrible finish when my big slick cost me the game . The flop had come j-4-k rainbow and with only one other player in the hand I thought I had the hand and pushed . I had put them on a-j when they had just made a min. raise preflop and was dead wrong....they were holding the hooks and it was over for me at 37th spot . oops .While I'm here I also just want to apologise to anyone that might be trying to visit the forum and having problems doing so . I've been saying all along that the internet gambling laws need to be brought to the publics attention more through way of prime time network news channels . Here where I'm at I have yet to see anything on the television or the newspaper myself , and I know for a fact that most folk around here have never even heard of the UIGEA . Much less what it means. The problem is that if you don't play online poker or the casinos , chances are you've never heard of it . The law does not make online gambling illegal here in the States mind you , it just bans banks from allowing money transfers to and from gambling sites . That's the simplest way I know to put it . That makes it very hard to play most sites that have casinos , but for online poker sites it's still fairly easy as long as they don't have casino games . A couple online wallets have stuck by our side and say that online poker is a game of skill and NOT gambling . I have to say I agree with this 100% . The proof ?...

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all out there today . Here at the House of Poker and from the 5th Street Forum , we wish you all a very merry day and hope that your new year will be a successful one both on and off the felt .I don't really have much more to say other than I did play the league game at Nordica on Saturday and had a bit of a suck out on me to have one of my worst finish to date in the series . I had the BB and was holding 5-2 os when a player only made the call . I thought at that moment that the 5-2 was gonna get me in trouble and trouble it was . The flop come k-5-2 rainbow and I decided to try a check raise . The caller bet about half their stack and I pushed allin , and they make the call .
