Weekend Thoughts
2007-07-02 12:40:00 For lack of a better name I just come up with weekend thoughts due to me doing a lot of thinking lately . I guess the biggest thing on my mind is the old health..I'm going in for surgery the 12th of this month to remove three spots off my vocal cords and not really looking forward to it at all . I've never been scared of much in this world..that probably comes from being run over with a truck , cut, stabbed ,clubbed and even falling off a two story building and surviving it all . All that and it's doctors and hospitals that just scare the shit out of me...lol . I think the hardest part to deal with after this surgery is not being able to talk for a while and perhaps even learning how to over again ..but the specialist I have comes highly recommend and he says he'll keep the cost down as much as possible due to me not being able to have insurance . For anyone thats interested you can Click Here and see pretty much what my vocal cords look like at the moment . After the surgery I... More About: Thoughts , Weekend
Afghanistan: Boy-Executioner Video Outrages Afghans
2007-06-28 14:35:00 The photo you see is a still from a video showing a boy shortly before he executes a young man . It's pitiful how some of the young today can be swayed so easy , but what the Taliban are doing to their youth is nothing short of creating the monsters of todays world . What you are about to read is a couple months old , but it should open some folks eyes to the horrors of what our troops have to be weary of..... April 24, 2007 (RFE/RL) -- A disturbing video of a young boy beheading a Pakistani hostage has shocked and angered the Afghan public and international observers since it began circulating several days ago. Rights activists condemned the use of a child in the execution as "new low" -- even for an extremist group like the Taliban. In Afghanistan , it is unclear what effect the grisly video might have on militants' efforts to recruit sympathizers. Many Afghans have expressed rage over news of the widely circulated images of the brutal killing of a man by an adolescent executioner... 2007-06-26 13:12:00 Today we have with us Kris Robinson from Poker.com and OnlineGambling.com. Poker.com is the internet's #1 poker resource, with complete poker rules, as well as the latest poker news & poker room reviews. I highly recommend reading the blog there as well as joining the forum . OnlineGambling.com provides online gambling news and information, focusing on casino, poker and sports betting.1. How and when did you get your start in the poker business ?I put myself through college by dealing casino games through the late 1990s at the local casino on the night shift - blackjack, poker games, roulette sicbo etc. So I got my start in the live casino industry, which has always been a big help with my online work. Then I worked for an Internet company that ran large online adverting campaigns and managed a domain registrar. They also controlled the Poker.com domain. I was eventually put in charge of everything to do with online gaming and from 2002-2005 I ran campaigns for the big sites of the... More About: Chat , Chip

Taliban using children in suicide missions
2007-06-24 18:26:00 Been hearing a lot of propaganda on how the troops are killing innocent civilians during combat . I know it's a shame , but during war there are some nasty things that can happen . You can bet your bottom dollar that the NATO forces are doing everything short of pulling out to try and prevent this . I'm getting sick and tired of every day of seeing another piece of news of how our troops are killing civilians...they fail to mention the amount of these "innocent civilians" that are trying to kill our own . Well today I have finally saw something that states just how far the Taliban goes...they have no regard for human life whatsoever . Children as young as six are being used by the Taliban in increasingly desperate suicide missions, coalition forces in Afghanistan claimed yesterday. The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), to which Britain contributes 5,000 troops in southern Afghanistan, revealed that soldiers defused an explosive vest which had been placed on a six-year... The King of the Harmonica
2007-06-23 15:19:00 Sonny Boy Williamson II, nicknamed "King of the Harm onica " by his peers, was one of the most inspiring harp players in blues history. He was born in southwest Madison County at Jackson Tennessee, March 30, 1914, to Ray Williamson and Nancy Utley. His father died when he was just a baby, so he was reared by his mother. At age eleven, he received his first harmonica as a Christmas gift from his mother. According to his half-brother, T. W. Utley, when he was not chopping cotton, milking cows, or doing other farm chores, he was teaching himself to play the harmonica by listening to and playing along with records on an old wind-up record player. By the time he was sixteen, Williamson was jamming around Tennessee and Arkansas with guitarist "Sleepy John" Estes and mandolin demon James "Yank" Rachell. John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson helped propel the country blues of his native Southland toward a more urban-blues sound with his blend of originality, country intensity, and the electrifica... Mac Games ?
2007-06-21 14:58:00 I know there are a lot of different games out there these days , and there must be just as many ways to play them . From Mac software , ipods , computers , game systems to even todays telephones . Unlike some I know , hehehe , some folk play other games beside poker and casino games . Take the wife and daughters for example , they love playing word games and such . My son was always into action and role playing games , along with anything pertaining to sports . American football , racing , boxing to baseball . You name it , and he played it . I was looking for a paid review to do today , got to try and keep some funds coming in ya know...;-) , when I ran across this site called "Mac Games and More...". So i thought this might be a good one for the House of Poker Blues readers . If you are one of the many that like playing mac games , I would think this site would be right up your alley . They got more games there than you could shake a stick at . Just some of the names of the games ... More About: Ames

Pete r Haslam , aka "Bullet Pete" is a former fireman and Royal Marine from across the waters in the United Kingdom .I tip my hat to the man for not only serving his country , but his fellow countrymen as well . He now plays pro poker around the world . Here's his Vegas House .1. Pete , how and when did you get your start playing professional poker? Having always been interested in card games and having an ability to gamble on two flys walking across a wall it was inevitable I would stumble across poker sooner or later. I first found a poker site, whilst surfing the net, about 6 years ago. Having always been a recreational sports gambler ,I soon deposited and within a week I was playing 5 10 no limit, and losing of course. After finding my feet I started playing 2 4 no limit, I read a few books, and soon realised it was actually a skill game. From there I became a winning player. Two years ago I left my job as a firefigh... More About: Chat , Peter , Chip
Earn Money Blogging !
2007-06-18 18:03:00 I started blogging thanks in a large part to online poker . The site that I prefer had a bloggers poker tour and the first season they had it I just had to be a part of the games . By the time the second season came around , I found myself wanting to host one of the games as well .I had one hold up on being able to do so tho....they didn't allow myspace bloggers to host any of the games . With a little nudge from the then acting commissioner , Shane , I finally started a blog spot and pretty much left the myspace one just for plugging the House of Poker Blues blog .I then soon learned that with a little time a person could make a few bucks off of blogging , so I was soon on the hunt for ways to do so .If you are looking for a way to start earning a bit of money while blogging ,then this just may be what you need . PayPerPost is happy to announce the launch of PPP Direct ! Where competitors like ReviewMe charge 50-100% markup and keep up to half your money, PPP Direct only charges a... An Open Letter to the Troops
2007-06-18 15:29:00 May legions of angels surround you daily.Dear Ladies and Gents in Iraq and AfghanistanI am going to take a certain amount of comfort in thinking that if you are reading this letter, then maybe you are in a place of relative peace and security. My name is Margie and I live on the east coast of Canada and I am a mom and nanna. I am also just one of many many people around the world that worry and pray for you many times through the day. In fact some days it is so often I swear I can hear God say "Enough already. I heard you the first million times !" LOL I know that you all have seen the protesters in the media but it seems the ones that get the most coverage are those that point fingers at you the troops. The ones that say you had a choice to say no and you could have refused to go to war. Please do not take their thoughts and words to heart for they do not know seem to understand how serious was your committment when you swore an oath. In fact some think that I am nuts when I tell th... More About: Open , Letter , Troops , Open Letter
News From Afghanistan
2007-06-17 13:17:00 Been since before Mothers Day that we here had heard from the son who's with the 82nd over in Afghanistan .Well last night we finally got a call from him ,so I thought I'd post a pic of him and his twin boys . They had been on the move and returned back to Kandahar , Afghanistan just yesterday . Wasn't a whole lot he could talk about , but it was still good to hear from him . He did mention that he had a package waiting for him and his mates when he arrived back at Kandahar and that they were thankful for that . We'd sent them some playing cards , dried fruits and powder kool-ade this past time and hope to be sending off another package this week .If you would like to show your support of the troops and send off a package , just look at the top of the right column for info on doing so . Seems he has finally took an interest in hold'em poker on what spare time he can get , and asked his ol'man for a bit of advice on playin....lol . Said that now that they back to Kandahar he... 2007-06-16 16:05:00 Thought I'd give a plug for the Poke r .com Forum today . This forum was started not too long ago and I think some have confused this with the old poker.com room and forum . The old site is now Pokercs.com . The "all new" site is looking for members and will be having a freeroll for the first 250 members who make a decent post . Here is what the site itself has to say :" 1st 250 Member FreerollTo kick start our forum, we're going to hold a freeroll tournament for the first 250 members to sign up and make a decent post. 2007-06-13 14:02:00 I know I been just a might slack on keeping the blogs going daily , but I been just a might down for wear . No biggy tho , for here I am . Today I just want to brag a bit bout folk over at the 5TH Street Forum and some other places .As I mentioned in some earlier blogs , Chris , Brad and others started a site called sirskinski.com . When I returned home the site had done raised right at a thousand dollars to help with medical bills and such ! Not only was that site bringing in money , but some fellow members decided they wanted to do something as well . So Dw set up a tourney with the funds being donated , and he threw in an extra hundred himself . That brought in almost another two hundred bucks with Chris , DangerMouse and ScotLady all giving their winnings . Then Sir William and Damien , the big dog from the Online Players Union had a game set up for the following day ! This game was to have half of the funds be donated and it drew a bigger crowd . The sad thing is , and don't...
Homeward Bound
2007-06-11 14:25:00 Well what can I say . As we all know all good things must come to an end , and the time had arrived for us to go back home to South Carolina . After a shower and drinkin a couple cups of coffee , it was time to hit the road . I've done a right fair bit of drivin round this country in the past , from the east coast to the west coast , and met a lot of folk while doing so . But none were as hard to end as this trip....It really pulled at my guts to say my goodbyes . Brad , Cathy and their family will always have a place in the wife and I's hearts. We pulled out at 8 am so the wife could see some of the mountains and all that we missed while driving to Canada...that's one of the drawbacks of driving all night . She sure saw them too..all the way from Pennsylvania to North Carolina we were in mountains . We took our time and stopped every couple hours so she could take her pictures ..the drive was pleasant till we hit South Carolina , then we ran smack dab into tropical storm Barry ... 2007-06-10 14:56:00 Sorry for the delays in posting bout the trip , been a might busy here with being poked and probed...The rest of the week we chilled out around the campground for the most part .I'd brought a guitar and Brad had one as well that he'd been beatin on a bit . For most of the week Brad and family would come by in the afternoons . Anyhow , I put new strings on the thing and tuned it up a bit and went to showing him a couple little tunes . I was really impressed when Chantil , his daughter , just took right to learning it just by watching . In no time at all she was picking out "Lean on Me". His son Scotty was pickin up on it a bit as well . If they keep it up , Brad as well , they should have no problems learning how to play at all .They was this one cat that walked by the camp site quite often and he come over and wanted to try out Brads guitar....after tuning them together , we'd have us a little jam sessions . His name was Rodney , and he sure could play the blues style . Was an a... More About: Grin
Casino Niagara
2007-06-08 13:29:00 While at Niagara Brad and I decided that we'd play the 35.00 hold'em tournament . We sat down and just a couple hands in I get j-10 suited on the button . Now I like this hand and always raise with it and I did ..up to 200 chips. All fold except this one lady and she calls . The flop come 9-q-2 and I'm lookin at an open end draw as well as the flush draw , so I fire off another 200 . The lady moves allin on me and I'm floored..lol . I just can't make myself risk all my chips on such a great draw that early in the game and I fold . ughhh . That's crippled me as it then becomes obvious that this tourney is a turbo and the blinds just start climbing fast . After folding several hands of trash I'm becoming short stacked and soon get dealt k-10 suited and decide to make my stand . I'm allin and get two callers , q-10 and A-9 . The Ace high held and I was out 7th in the game . Brad was hanging on and got two pair on the flop just a couple hands later and went allin to get called b... More About: Casino
Niagara Falls
2007-06-06 14:24:00 After a weekend of just hangin round the camp , we decided to take a drive over to Niagara Fall s on Tuesday . Glenda and I got up and drove over to Brads and picked him up to play guide for us , Cathy had to work so it was just the three of us and off we went . The drive took us right at two hours and we decided to just go ahead and park at the Casino and just take a stroll . For those that don't know , Niagara Falls are a set of massive waterfalls located on the Niagara River in eastern North America, on the border between Ontario, Canada and New York ,United States . Now I've seen my share of some beautiful falls up in the Smokey and Blueridge mountains , quite a few more than several hundred feet tall . But the shear width and volume of water coming down from Niagara is just awesome . If you don't like big crowds , I would recommend seeing them round this time of year . Brad says it's pretty much elbow to elbow during the summer months . If you'd like more info on the Falls...
Camping Out
2007-06-05 14:07:00 After we got to Brads we took off that afternoon for the campground . He had bought a used travel trailor and had it set up a week or so before we left to go to Canada . Gave him time to run all the bugs out for we got there . I must say that fit right up our life style . We here used to be avid campers , tho it had been a while . Glenda and I both were looking forward to just getting away from phones , computers and the such..it really has a way of relaxing a soul and gives him time to just unwind from all the worries of everyday life . West Menrose Campground , I think that's right...was right next to the Grand River just down the road from Elmira , Ont . The spot we were on was nice and just a hop anda skip from the river . The bath house's were just a very short walk away as well , so we couldn't have asked for nothin better .Brad and Cathy , with very little help from me just got busy as bees and set the screen room up in no time and we were in business...lol . They , along with some others it seems , started this site called sirskinski.com . Otis Rush : Blues Artist
2007-04-19 18:00:00 Born April 29, 1934 in Philadelphia, Mississippi , Otis Rush is a blues musician, singer and guitarist. After moving to Chicago in the early 1950s, Rush made a name for himself playing in clubs on both the South Side and West Side blues scenes. He is perhaps the greatest guitar king ever to make Chicago blues. He had learned to play the guitar, which he played upside down and left-handed and the harmonica as a child in Mississippi. Playing the guitar myself ,I can testify to how difficult this would be . That's when he found out that he could play, create, and write songs for himself. After moving to Chicago, from 1956 to 1959, he recorded for the Cobra label and had hits with "All Your Love I Miss Lovin'" and Willie Dixon's "I Can't Quit You Baby" (thats the song in the u tube clip at the bottom)in 1957. His most famous recording is perhaps "Double Trouble" from the same year. He continued to plays a right-handed instrument upside-down without restringing it. This perhaps contr...
