Pickin and a Grinnin

Sorry for the delays in posting bout the trip , been a might busy here with being poked and probed...The rest of the week we chilled out around the campground for the most part .I'd brought a guitar and Brad had one as well that he'd been beatin on a bit . For most of the week Brad and family would come by in the afternoons . Anyhow , I put new strings on the thing and tuned it up a bit and went to showing him a couple little tunes . I was really impressed when Chantil , his daughter , just took right to learning it just by watching . In no time at all she was picking out "Lean on Me". His son Scotty was pickin up on it a bit as well . If they keep it up , Brad as well , they should have no problems learning how to play at all .They was this one cat that walked by the camp site quite often and he come over and wanted to try out Brads guitar....after tuning them together , we'd have us a little jam sessions . Casino Niagara

While at Niagara Brad and I decided that we'd play the 35.00 hold'em tournament . We sat down and just a couple hands in I get j-10 suited on the button . Now I like this hand and always raise with it and I did ..up to 200 chips. All fold except this one lady and she calls . The flop come 9-q-2 and I'm lookin at an open end draw as well as the flush draw , so I fire off another 200 . The lady moves allin on me and I'm floored..lol . I just can't make myself risk all my chips on such a great draw that early in the game and I fold . ughhh . That's crippled me as it then becomes obvious that this tourney is a turbo and the blinds just start climbing fast . After folding several hands of trash I'm becoming short stacked and soon get dealt k-10 suited and decide to make my stand . I'm allin and get two callers , q-10 and A-9 . Niagara Falls

After a weekend of just hangin round the camp , we decided to take a drive over to Niagara Fall s on Tuesday . Glenda and I got up and drove over to Brads and picked him up to play guide for us , Cathy had to work so it was just the three of us and off we went . The drive took us right at two hours and we decided to just go ahead and park at the Casino and just take a stroll . For those that don't know , Niagara Falls are a set of massive waterfalls located on the Niagara River in eastern North America, on the border between Ontario, Canada and New York ,United States . Now I've seen my share of some beautiful falls up in the Smokey and Blueridge mountains , quite a few more than several hundred feet tall . But the shear width and volume of water coming down from Niagara is just awesome . If you don't like big crowds , I would recommend seeing them round this time of year . Camping Out

After we got to Brads we took off that afternoon for the campground . He had bought a used travel trailor and had it set up a week or so before we left to go to Canada . Gave him time to run all the bugs out for we got there . I must say that fit right up our life style . We here used to be avid campers , tho it had been a while . Glenda and I both were looking forward to just getting away from phones , computers and the such..it really has a way of relaxing a soul and gives him time to just unwind from all the worries of everyday life . West Menrose Campground , I think that's right...was right next to the Grand River just down the road from Elmira , Ont . The spot we were on was nice and just a hop anda skip from the river . The bath house's were just a very short walk away as well , so we couldn't have asked for nothin better .Brad and Cathy , with very little help from me just got busy as bees and set the screen room up in no time and we were in business...lol . Ok folks , I'm back from my trip to Canada and I could have never asked for a more pleasant time . I'll be doing a bit of writing this week on some of the wife and I's experiances while we were there . When we arrived in Guelph Ontario , the wife and I were just a bit nervous on meeting Brad and his family . We found his house bout 9am or there bouts and the first thing he showed me was a site that he and another good friend Chris had started , along with my partner here Margie . The illness is not only taking a toll on his body but, without health insurance it is also threating to either wipe him out financialy or by not getting medication leave him suffering in excruciating pain. First off Jen , how long have you played poker and what is your game of choice ?I have been playing for about three years. I started with No Limit Hold'em, because that what everyone was playing. I prefer to play razz, but am loving 7 card stud hi/lo, now.2. My favorite hand in hold'em or stud has always been K-Q suited with J-10 suited being a close second . Yep , I just want to say a big thanks here to all that played the "Get Well Soon Skinski" game . I also have to say thanks to Liam for setting up my old skin from when I hosted the BPT for the game . Also to Neefer (my daughter)and Pepeman who put up fifty bucks each to make this a more interesting game . At first I was a might embarrassed that a game was set up on behalf of me , but I must admit that I had a real good time . It showed me the character of some folk....there are still folk out there that can let the past lie and rally around to show support after all . What a day yesterday turned out to be. Was Frida y the 13th as we all know , but they sure weren't no bad luck here in the Moore house...Jamie , the daughter-n-law says it's cause we have a black cat in the house . lol . To start off , it was the first day that the wife drove her car to work .It's a five speed volvo and we just got it this week at a steal....anyhow , she's just learned to drive a clutch and she made it to work and back home with no problems . I was a happy man when she called and said she made it to work ok . Next I find out that the baby , Neefer , has put up money to host an invitation only tournament called "Get Well Skinski ". From what I hear , she had been working on this for a while . It embarrasses me in a way to have a game hosted for me , but on the other hand it touches me as well . I registered and watched the chat with Senator Alfonse D'Amato and the President of the Poker Players Alliance ,Michael Bolcerek yesterday and I'm glad I did . I agreed with most everything that was said and do feel that with time the UIGEA laws will be repealed .It doesn't hurt the effort that Senator Barney Franks is on our side as well . Just weeks ago the PPA had round 60,000 members . The membership has skyrocketed since then to over 320,000 members ! Senator D'Amato says he would like to see them numbers reach a million and then he feels we have a strong enough voice to really be heard .Remember folk , it doesn't cost to become a member of the PPA...Lets all unite and help get these laws repealed .

Finally heard from the son this week from over at Afghanistan . It was good to hear from him ...Not a whole lot to say , but he did receive another package from us . Yep , thought I'd share some thoughts about something that really bugs me . Growing up my family was always tight . They was six of us boys and every where we went folk would see us and say " thar come them Moore boys. " My dad was the backbone that kept the family together tho, and when he died the family pretty much died right along with him . Now with me being the oldest I tried to keep the clan united , but that was not meant to be...we all just drifted and went our own ways . I realized then that it was time to just hunker down and make the wife and kids the family and just pass on down the traditions to them . Just got a comment yesterday and I slipped up and rejected it before I realized what I had done . Seems after you have moderated a comment for the blog , there is no changing your mind . This comment was made on a post I made here , “First Ladies of Football” . Here is the comment..."I am a military wife here at Fort bragg, NC. I think you and everyone else should know that not many of us at home are very pleased with the visit the cheerleaders made. The days of giving the boys in uniform a little eyefull to boost their spirits while totally disrespecting the wives and families they left behind are thankfully dead and gone. This is a new era of a family oriented military and we should start to act like it. If the "first ladies of football" want to support our husbands you tell them to come stand next to us at our FRG meetings at help put together care packages.
