De La Hoya won by the scores of 120-108 and 119-109 twice. It was clear De La Hoya was the more powerful and better combination puncher, although Steve Forbes put up a terrific performance in front of 28 000 fans. Key Points :- De La Hoya looked strong and his combinations were perfect. His body punches were also vicious. 2008-04-20 13:25:00 Joe Calzaghe today beat Bernard Hopkins by a split decision to win the Ring Light Heavyweight title at the Thomas and Mack center in Las Vegas. The fight was full of holding and it was extremely hard to score. In the end Calzaghe's work rate and Hopkins inactivity gave the judges no choice but to give the win to the "fighting pride of Wales".Key Points :- Calzaghes work rate was once again fantastic. He threw over 700 punches in the fight and he landed 231 on Hopkins which is more than any other fighter has. - Hopkins was the stronger man. His flash knock down in the 1st was a perfect right. Weirdly enough he didn't apply any pressure straight after the knock down and he allowed Calzaghe time to recover.- The fight was difficult to score. 2008-04-13 14:56:00 Today was the biggest day in boxing for 2008, with four of the biggest fights in the welterweight and light heavyweight divisions. As expected Cotto, Margarito and Dawson won, with Tarver pulling off a slight upset. Key Points:- Cotto was simply a class above Gomez. His body shots dropped Gomez in the 1st, 3rd and 5th rounds. It was obvious from the opening exchanges that the contender winner was in deep water. Cotto was obviously the superior fighter and his punching power, especially when going to the body was freakish. - As expected Margarito once again stopped Cintron. Cintron put up a gutsy performance and he went down like a champion should. He was a completely different fighter from the one that fought and lost to Margarito in 2005. The fight was competitive in the first couple of rounds and then Sturm took over. It was an impressive display by the technically gifted fighter and he went on to call out Arthur Abraham also known as "King Arthur". 2008-03-30 00:25:00 The current IBF middleweight world champion Arthur Abraham stopped Elvin Ayala with 30 seconds to go in the 12th round today to retain his title. Ayala was pretty sharp throughout the entire fight and although he was clearly not winning the fight, it was reasonably competitive. Abraham stopped the fight with a massive left hook and the German crowd loved it.Key Points :- Ayala should not have been in there with Abraham tonight. Key Points :- Marquez showed great defense and speed tonight. - Manny still has super power, it showed with the knock down of Marquez in the 3rd.
