Former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Freddie Mitchell was well known during his brief 4 year NFL career. Not for his play, because outside of 4th and 26 he didn’t do much. It’s hard to believe that he was drafted ahead of Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, and Reggie Wayne. Donovan McNabb probably throws up every time he thinks about that. (Or anytime he scrambles on consecutive plays in games played in Florida. Trust me. These are the dumb things I notice.) It kills me and I’m just fan. Even though he didn’t display much on the field, FredEx talked a good game and it looks like he still does. This is the fourth commercial in the Nike Become Legendary campaign and probably my favorite. Any spot that works in N.C. State’s 1983 NCAA Championship is a winner for me. Nike also throws shout outs to Appalachian St., the ‘85 Villanova championship team, JT III, guys working out at night, and MJ. The Boise St. football team is shown practicing the statue of liberty play at one point in the commercial, a good look for the school, players, and coaching staff except: For Boise State, the commercial includes a simulation of the Broncos practicing the Statue of Liberty play at Bronco Stadium. The footage was not shot at Bronco Stadium and does not include any Boise State players. The stadium is a digital re-creation. Nike couldn’t use footage of the actual play without jeopardizing some players’ eligibility (that’s why the running back is No. 33 in the reenactment). The NCAA strikes again. The Louisville Cardinals basketball coach has teamed up with former Kentucky Wildcats Jamal Mashburn and Walter McCarty to start Fast Break Doughnuts LLC of Lexington. They plan to open 17 Dunkin’ Donuts in the Central Kentucky area in the next few years, and the first one will open in May in Lexington. Doing business together is nothing new for Rick Pitino and Jamal Mashburn. From the Lexington Herald-Leader: In 2000, an investor group including Mashburn, Pitino and Avare completed the purchase of 70 percent of Toyota on Nicholasville and the Lexus Store of Lexington on U.S. 27 in Nicholasville. Members of the Sacramento Kings were asked who would play them in a movie about the Kings. Quincy Douby wants to play himself although Sheldon Williams thinks Snoop Dogg would make a good Douby (doobie?).. Brad Miller got cast as Billy Bob Thorton and Russell Crowe, and it looks like John Salmons will be played by Wesley Snipes. All of the comparisons are pretty far off in my book. NBA players in general are easy to compare to The Wire or Hip-Hop stars, but I guess Sac-Town has a bunch of guys that don’t look like anybody.. My favorite part of this video.. Ron Artest saying Will Smith should play him in the movie. Sounds crazy at first, but with Will’s “Ali” experience he should be able to nail the brawl at the palace flashback scene. February 29th is just another day to me. I don’t buy any of the Leap Year superstitions, and I don’t do anything special for our extra day. I am, however, amazed that a bunch of goofballs in tights could figure out that the Earth circles the sun in 365 1/4 days. Since the Leap Year is every 4 years, people with a birthday on February 29th get shortchanged.. And I’ve always wondered how they decided which day to celebrate their birthday in a non Leap Year.
