Brazilians Ready For IFL - 02 Nov 2007 09:49:27am
2007-11-02 10:49:00 This Saturday attention will be returned to the IFL, the organization famous for its team disputes, for the performances of its individuals. The GPs in each of the five categories have the intention of naming champions for each weight group, so that in 2008, besides the traditional team dispute, there will be fights for belts. In this stage the tournament?s semifinals will be disputed. The finals shall take place on December 29. Representing Brazil are Delson Pe-de-Chumbo, among welterweights, Wagnney Fabiano, at lightweight, and Antoine Jaoude, at heavyweight. ?I have my head in the right place and very focused. I?ve already beaten the guy on the ground, I got his arm. But I think he will be tougher for already knowing me. He?s a good striker and will put the pressure on, but I?m going after him, to impose my game, take him down and try and submit him. I expect to win this semi, go full steam through to the finals and later get together with the Pitbulls and the master (Renzo). I... More About: Ready

He has won 11 of his last 12 fights, the lone setback a disqualification loss to Renzo Gracie last February. Trying Out the Life of the Cut Man - 02 Nov 2007 07:32:21am
2007-11-02 08:32:00 By Harry Hurt III I GRABBED the mixed martial arts fighter Delson Heleno by the back of the neck and stared into his fiery brown eyes. Delson is a Brazilian-born welterweight, 29 years old, 5 foot 11 and 170 pounds, with a coffee-colored complexion and cauliflower ears. His shaved head was glistening with sweat and his chest heaved in anticipation of his bout in the International Fight League World Championship Semifinal. ?Grease you right up,? I said, feigning the confidence of an experienced cut man. Extending the index finger of my latex-gloved right hand, I dabbed smears of Vaseline above Delson?s eyebrows, across his forehead and along his cheeks. If ancient war paint was used to terrify opposing warriors, the Vaseline served a protective purpose by lubricating the skin to reduce the friction of an adversary?s blows and the chances of suffering facial cuts. ?Also there,? Delson said with a grunt, flaring his nostrils. (Continue Reading) More About: Life , The Cut
Update on Martin "the HItman" Kampmann - 01 Nov 2007 06:40:23pm
2007-11-01 19:40:00 By Arias Garcia Jr. It was matter of unfortunate circumstances. On the cusp of the biggest fight of his career, Martin Kampmann suffered a devastating knee injury during training that forced him to withdraw from his UFC 72 bout with former UFC Middleweight Champion, Rich Franklin in June of 2007. In a bout that could have catapulted him to the top of the middleweight rankings, Yushin Okami stepped in and lost a decision. Franklin?s next opponent was a rematch with the current champion, Anderson Silva. That title shot could have belonged to Kampmann, but with battles with Crafton Wallace, Thales Leites, and Drew McFedries, all victories, in the UFC, he will not let a knee injury hinder his dream to be a champion in the UFC. Kampmann, who trains with the likes of Randy Couture, Tyson Griffin, and Mike Pyle at Extreme Couture in Las Vegas, hopes to return to the cage in early 2008 and put his name back in title contention. After successful knee surgery in September, Kampmann looks ... More About: Update , Hitman

Frustration Mounts For Sherk - 01 Nov 2007 02:23:26pm
2007-11-01 15:23:00 By Tom Hamlin LOS ANGELES ? Any idea that Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight champion Sean Sherk ?s appeal would be an easily executed line item in the California State Athletic Commission?s agenda was dispelled Tuesday in a Los Angeles hearing room. On July 19, the CSAC suspended Sherk for one year and fined him $2,500 after he tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite, an anabolic agent. He had been charged to appear in front of the commission after filing an extension with the CSAC in early August. He enlisted Los Angeles-based lawyer Howard Jacobs, who has been the defense attorney in several high-profile doping cases, to defend him. Jacobs wasted no time in attacking the foundation of the claims made against Sherk. First on his list was the ?chain of custody? for the urine sample taken by the CSAC after the July 7 fight. Deputy Attorney General Karen Chappelle had established the commission?s procedural diligence in dealing with the sample as a primary piece of evide... More About: Frustration , Mount , Stration
Kimbo Slice is ready to take on Cantrell - or anyone else - 01 Nov 2007 12:
2007-11-01 13:58:00 By Matt Young CORPUS CHRISTI ? The Internet world already knows Kimbo Slice can be entertaining on a computer monitor. During a Wednesday conference call, Kimbo proved he can be just as entertaining over the phone. Now, EliteXC mixed martial arts promoters hope Kimbo will be even more entertaining Nov. 10 at the American Bank Center. Kimbo was scheduled to fight Mike Bourke (8-11-1), but Bourke pulled out after separating his shoulder Sunday. Kimbo's new opponent is Bo Cantrell (10-10) of Citrus Heights, Calif. Cantrell has lost his past four fights. "I train to fight, so I'll fight anybody," Kimbo said. "I wasn't training for anyone in particular, so I'll fight anyone." That was one of the most tame things Kimbo said during the conference call. A sampling of his spicier takes included this offering when asked what will make him so tough in the cage: "If you're going to put me in an arm bar, you're going to have to break that (ex... 2007-11-01 13:17:00 By Bill Vilona His former colleagues at the FBI nearly flipped when Dave Szady revealed his new career. Say what? Dire ctor of an organization? The World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts, designed to unify and govern mixed martial arts fight competition? "Their reaction has been intriguing," laughed Szady, former FBI assistant director of counter-intelligence. "They've said, 'We've seen all kind of jobs that retired FBI directors have taken, but we've never seen anything like this.' "But after they think about it, they'll agree it makes perfect sense. I have complete integrity." Szady and his partners, who include Pensacola attorney Fred Levin and Pensacola resident Kay Stephenson, the former Buffalo Bills head coach, hope officials with various MMA organizations will concur. 2007-11-01 13:12:00 By Thomas Gerbasi Jared Rollins is a full-time fighter. Despite the hardships of having to make ends meet in the months and years before the big money hopefully hits, the welterweight prospect carries on, knowing that only with complete and unwavering dedication will he reach his goals in mixed martial arts. Plus, for Rollins ? a graduate of Chapman University with a Bachelors Degree in Advertising ? the 9 to 5 world is simply not for him. ?I went through the corporate thing, I worked for a company, and it sucked,? he admits. ?My mind wasn?t even there half the time because I was training in the PM, and working in the AM, and my mind was thinking about fighting. And the people there were talking to me about fighting. I think that?s kinda what drove me back. Maybe if they weren?t so in awe of it and talking about it, maybe I would have stayed.? Matt Hughes' Blog - Week Seven - 01 Nov 2007 12:00:51pm
2007-11-01 13:00:00 By Matt Hughes I was pretty frustrated with all the losses we?ve taken so far. I don?t know if I was ready to walk away because, kinda like I said on the show, anybody can quit. It takes a man to stay in someplace when he doesn?t want to be there. I wasn?t gonna quit, but I wanted to express to my team that they need to shape up and that they need to start giving it 100 percent. Some of them were quiet when I spoke to them, but I did feel that I was getting a hold of them and I felt like I was doing my job as a coach, I really did. Mac Danzig wasn?t too happy with the way I was coming down on the team, and he expressed that on this week?s show. I?m glad that Mac has his own opinion and I think he did a heck of a job on this show being a teammate. After watching this episode, I?m really happy with Mac. I could care less that he didn?t understand what I was doing; that doesn?t bother me a bit. What I was glad to see was that he was there for his team, and I was glad to see that tran... The Headhunter Speaks! - 01 Nov 2007 11:27:22am
2007-11-01 12:27:00 By Robert Rousseau Sometimes nicknames just don?t fit. However, when it comes to Paul ?The Headhunter ? Buentello, the term ?Headhunter? fits just fine. After all, he isn?t much for takedowns, as you?ll soon hear. And his 23-9 record was formed on the basis of 16 (T)KO?s. What?s more, he holds seven submission victories, four of which were due to fight-ending strikes.
