2007-10-31 14:09:00 By Keith Mills Now that EliteXC are winding up their first year the initial crop of big signings are over and the up-and-comers climbing the rungs of ShoXC and EliteXC undercards are making news. One such initial success story is Seth Kleinbeck. In the ADCC News archive is a preview of the Strikeforce/EliteXC card with Seth. Since then Seth won two fights in the second round, the second of which was on the ShoXC Showtime broadcast against KOTC standout Jamie Jara. Now Seth returns to EliteXC to face Kyle Noke. KM: How do you feel about fighting in EliteXC? SK: I liked fighting in ShoXC and this came up. I thought it was a good opportunity and they let me fight on the main card. I feel good about it. KM: Your last fight was 4:59 round 2 by TKO, one second left in the round. Can you describe that fight? SK: It was back and forth. I wouldn?t call it a ?guarded? fight but we didn?t do a lot of exchanges in the first round or second round. I got one takedown KM: How do yo... More About: Elitexc

Rashad Evans' Road to 78 ? Week One - 31 Oct 2007 12:45:08pm
2007-10-31 13:45:00 By Rashad Evans We?re less than a month away from UFC 78, and things are heating up here in the gym in Albuquerque as I get ready for my fight with Michael Bisping on November 17th. Bisping?s a tough opponent coming off a tough fight with Matt Hamill where he left a lot of questions out there for his fans and for himself, so I know he?s gonna come out in this fight and try to make a statement. I?m coming off a tough fight myself with Tito Ortiz, and whenever you leave it in the judges? hands, and make it close enough to be that kind of decision where it?s not one-sided, you leave room for error and you?ve got to take some of that responsibility on yourself. You really can?t be like ?I did this,? or ?I did that?. You really can?t make a case for yourself because if you really did as much as you believe you did, there would be no question in anybody?s mind. (Continue Reading) More About: Week , Road
White and Fertitta Try There Hardest to Discredit Randy Couture - 31 Oct 20
2007-10-31 13:33:00 By The UFC ?I hate talking about money,? said UFC President Dana White during a press conference Tuesday at the Zuffa offices in Las Vegas, but after UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture went public last week with his two 2007 bout agreements as well as comments about his compensation and the organization, White, along with co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta, felt the need to set the record straight. ?I sat back and watched his press conference on TV last Thursday, and I have to be honest, I felt that the statements that he made so grossly misrepresented the facts that I felt that we needed to protect ourselves because I felt that the statements were made in a way meant to hurt us,? said Fertitta. ?You can only sit back and be silent for so long ? the facts are the facts, and we have the facts.? Added White, ?I try the best I can to make sure that we have a good relationship with these guys and that we keep them as happy as we can. Randy Couture , with all the things he?s accomplished in...

2007-10-30 14:18:00 He is arguably the best middleweight in the IFL today. Benji Radach has stormed onto the scene this season with the LA Anacondas going undefeated in his individual bouts helping lead the Anacondas to a #1 seed in this year's playoffs. Now he heads into the World Grand Prix this Saturday with a bout against Brent Beauparlant. 411Mania's Lotfi Sariahmed talked to the "Razor" about his bout on Saturday and other various topics. 411Mania.com: Your last bout came as part of the IFL team semis in a win over Gerald Harris back in August. Unfortunately the team lost and that was the end of the season. How have things been for you adjusting to training to fight in the Grand Prix? Benji Radach: It's been kind of the same scenario because we have four guys in the Grand Prix. We're all kind of training as a team. This time around I've been training with Alex (Schoenauer) and Bas (Rutten) and Chris Horodecki and Jay Hieron. We train hard man. I've trained h... More About: Interview

2007-10-30 13:50:00 By Alicia Doyle Growing up, John Koppenhaver got his first taste of mixed martial arts while watching bouts with his father. "I'm excited about the opportunity to really support myself and live on just fighting." Koppenhaver is among 16 of the best up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighters in the 170-pound division who gathered from around the globe in Las Vegas for the new season of Spike TV's reality show, "The Ultimate Fighter : Team Serra vs. Team Hughes." Brock Lesnar: Give Me An Opponent - 30 Oct 2007 12:44:26pm
2007-10-30 13:44:00 By Damon Martin At UFC 77, the promotion announced the official signing of highly sought after heavyweight, Brock Lesnar , who gained much fame and notoriety after a career in the WWE and is now set to debut in the Octagon, likely in early 2008. Rumors circulated for months who might land the services of the former NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion, but it seemed like the UFC was always the front runner in the competition. ?It boils down to they?re really the only company on the block and on the planet that is willing to I guess take Brock Lesnar to the next level,? said Lesnar. ?I think it works good for both the UFC and Brock Lesnar. For me it was quite easy. Other companies, it was just a proven fact on the K-1 event, how poor their promotion was. There was a lot of different things, we kind of left K-1 with a bad taste in our mouths and wanted to come and be part of a professional organization.? (Continue Reading) More About: Give
Schoenauer Has 12 Minutes To An IFL Belt - 30 Oct 2007 12:39:37pm
2007-10-30 13:39:00 Alex Schoenauer?s three-season tenure in the International Fight League has been much like a rollercoaster ride, punctuated by impressive highs and disheartening lows. Wins over Travis Wiuff, Kazuhiro Nakamura and Allan Goes have been offset by nearly alternating losses to Jamal Patterson, Aaron Stark and Mike Ciesnolevicz (twice). So it?s understandable if people wonder which Schoenauer will show up each time he steps into the ring. While consistency has eluded him to this point with the promotion, he did manage to win enough fights in the regular season to qualify in the light heavyweight division for this weekend?s IFL Grand Prix in Chicago. Due to injuries and contractual issues, unlike the other four weight classes ? which will host the first round of their respective four-man tournaments ? Schoenauer steps directly into a final round championship bout with this season?s most consistent 205-pound fighter, Vladimir Matyushenko. ?Originally I was supposed to fight Matyushenko... Strikeforce Updates - 30 Oct 2007 12:27:46pm
2007-10-30 13:27:00 The 9/29 show at the Playboy Mansion drew a crowd of 500 at $1,000 a ticket for a $500,000 gate. The event was considered a huge success. For 2008 they are planning two major shows in San Jose, another show at the Playboy Mansion, and expansion into several new markets including Honolulu and Seattle. The San Jose shows are slated to feature Frank Shamrock v. Renzo Graice in April and Shamrock v. Cung Le later in the year. Both events would be co-promoted with EliteXC and Showtime as pay-per-view events, even though EXC and Strikeforce aren't on the best of terms. The promotion is making a strong play for Bob Sapp, planning to build towards Sapp v. Daniel Pruder in Hawaii where there is no athletic commission to stop the fight due to the weight difference. Outside of the UFC, every other major promotion in the country has interest in Sapp, including EXC who has discussed Sapp v. Butterbean, but the EXC offer is not as lucrative as Strikeforce's offer. Matt Hughes: My Thoughts on Randy Couture. - 30 Oct 2007 12:20:37pm
2007-10-30 13:20:00 By Matt Hughes Well I?ve been tapering off of farm work and training more and more now that the fight?s getting closer, but I know you all have been waiting to hear my thoughts on Randy leaving the UFC, so here we go. I don?t know exactly what is going through Randy?s head, I haven?t talked to him, nor have I talked to Dana White about this situation. However, I somewhat agree with Randy. A couple of years ago, the UFC was a much smaller organization and I knew everybody that worked for them. When I wanted something, I knew who to call and who would get it done. I miss that. Nowadays, it seems like new employees of the UFC call me everyday. The problem was they got so big so fast they had to get more workers. So now it?s just a much bigger organization and things are a lot different. Dana doesn?t know all that goes on over there. It seems like he?s off doing his own thing. So I?m sure that a lot of what Randy is mad about, Dana has nothing to do with. A lot of times the UFC will ... More About: My Thoughts , Thoughts , Randy Couture

Kevin Randleman Suffering From Awful Staph Infection - 30 Oct 2007 03:59:35
2007-10-30 04:59:00 By Chris Howie At one time, Kevin "The Monster" Randleman wore the UFC Heavyweight championship title and was one of the most feared fighters in MMA. Nowadays Kevin is having a hard time staying out of the hospital. Over the last two years, Kevin has been experiencing a number of issues. He spent some time in the hospital at the turn of the new year and just recently had a severe bout of staph infection and is still feeling the effects of it. As I walked into work today I felt my phone vibrate. I open it to see a message from Kevin Ranadleman. When I open it up the message reads "Hey Chris, it's Kevin, is your cell a camera phone because I have something for you." Unfortunately the picture wouldn't come through on my phone but he did get it sent to my email. Much to my surprise (and as you can see in the picture), this was one of the most severe cases of staph I had ever seen. (Continue Reading) More About: Infection , Suffering , Kevin Randleman

2007-10-30 04:52:00 By Keith Mills This weekend the IFL hold the first round of their Grand Prix or individual fight series as opposed to their team format. One such fight is Bart Palaszewski vs. Chris Horodecki at Lightweight. In the ADCC News archives are a couple updates with both Bart and Chris. Now six weeks later Bart is in the Grand Prix. KM: How do you feel about the switch form the team perspective to this Gran Prix structure? BP: Good. The team thing is fun and all that but it is time for me to shine. These are the best guys at each weight class so I want to prove I am the best at 155 in the IFL. KM: From a team perspective you win over Ryan Schultz clinched the IFL World Team championship of last year. BP: That was great. At that point we were 2-0 and i...

2007-10-30 04:46:00 Former Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu world champion Delson Helen o has re-signed with the International Fight League through the conclusion of the 2008 season, according to Jerry Milani, public relations manager for the team-based promotion. Heleno (12-3), a slick welterweight ground fighter, will compete in the IFL World Grand Prix, which begins Saturday at the Sears Centre in Chicago. Many consider the Brazilian the odds-on favorite at 170 pounds. The 29-year-old led the New York Pitbulls to the league title, as he defeated Jake Ellenberger by submission with a second-round armbar at the IFL World Championship in September. Heleno has won seven of his last eight fights, his only setback a split decision defeat to veteran Antonio McKee. More About: Signs , Elen
Gina Carano's next opponent? - 30 Oct 2007 03:11:22am
2007-10-30 04:11:00 In the lone women's fight of the night, Shayna Baszler dominated Jennifer Tate to win by armbar submission 44 seconds into the first round. Baszler executed her game plan perfectly -- she knew she had the advantage on the ground and took the fight there as soon as she could. After brief ground-and-pound, Baszler set up the armbar and locked it in for the win. Before the fight, EliteXC President Gary Shaw said that there was a "very, very good possibility" that Baszler would be Gina Carano 's next opponent with an impressive win Friday night. I believe Baszler delivered with her performance against Tate. Baszler even showed some creativity by walking out to the cage with an electric guitar slung over her shoulder. A talented musician as well as MMA fighter, Baszler sent a message with her entrance that she can also match up against the photogenic Carano in a war of personalities. A Baszler-Carano fight would be a very intriguing one, given the contrast in their pre...

Dan Henderson Might Fight at UFC 79 - 30 Oct 2007 02:31:27am
2007-10-30 03:31:00 By MMA Junkie Dan Henderson , who most recently lost a unanimous decision to UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson in September, may return to the octagon Dec. 29 at UFC 79. The news come from Bubba The Love Sponge, who recently spoke to Henderson in Las Vegas. The Sirius Satellite Radio host mentioned the encounter during today?s episode of his show, and the news also appeared on the show?s official website, BTLS.com. That?s actually news itself. In a post-UFC 77 press conference earlier this month, UFC President Dana White said he wants Henderson to drop to middleweight but that the fighter seemed opposed to the idea. CSAC Under Fire & Scrambling Due To New Era Lawsuit - 30 Oct 2007 02:28:13a
2007-10-30 03:28:00 SANTA ANA, California (October 29, 2007) ? After being named in a lawsuit filed by New Era Fighting (NEF) for $500,000,000, embattled California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) Executive Director Armando Garcia responded by announcing a review of NEF?s promotional licensing renewal, incredibly, 10 months after the CSAC cashed NEF?s check for its 2007-2008 promoter?s license, and two weeks after a legal claim had been delivered to the State. NEF President Ron Kort filed the lawsuit because of a pattern and practice by the California State Athletic Commission of intentionally, willfully and viciously interfering with a licensed and approved event, which effected and injured New Era Fighting in the same or similar fashion as other mixed martial arts promoters, managers and fighters. The California State Athletic Commission, Frank Munoz (CSAC Staff Services Analyst), and the State?s Department of Consumer Affairs were also named in the lawsuit, which is the result of the CSAC?s c...
