Oden to Miss 2007-08 Season
2007-09-13 22:16:00 After everything seemed to be looking up for the Portland Trailblazers, things took a turn for the worse today when it will be announced that Greg Oden is going to have knee surgery and likely miss his rookie season. This is the same surgery that transformed Chris Webber from one of the league's best athletes and most versatile players to a slow, immobile big man who gets by on jump shooting and passing.Now before Portland fans begin to panic, let's remember that Webber was much older when he had this surgery and a complete recovery is possible, just ask Amare Stoudemire. According to a report by ESPN.com, the damage is relatively minor and a full recovery is expected in six to twelve months. Nonetheless, this puts a damper on a team that many were looking forward to watching, with Oden joining Rookie of the Year Brandon Roy and a number of other talented young players.If Oden is able to fully recover, this may not turn out so badly for the Blazers in the long run. 2007-08-19 19:07:00 Absolutely disgusted...that's how I feel after hearing the 1050 ESPN Radio report out of New York claiming that Tim Donaghy will name as many as 20 other NBA referees who also gambled on NBA games. This unfortunate news is so disheartening not only to myself but every NBA fan out there. We were betrayed I tell you. We invested so much time, energy and emotions into a league in which its games apparently weren't even legitimate. As a Mavericks fan myself, I took the 2006 NBA Finals like an unprotected boxer receiving a Mike Tyson upper-cut to the chin. I eventually recovered but now after the Donaghy development I find myself more irate than before over all of the phantom Dwayne Wade calls. For many of those screaming Mavs fans who insisted that the league was rigged, maybe they weren't being that ridiculous after all. We were all lied to and only God knows how many games were influenced by these scandolous referees. How can we ever watch an NBA game again without thinking twice ...

Eric Gagne: Boston's Newest Chump
2007-08-13 06:15:00 Eric Gagne has been nothing but a disappointment in Boston. Gagne has not had a clean inning yet with the Sox and has blown two saves. In effect, Gagne has cost the Red Sox two games in the standings, allowing the hated Yankees to be just 4 games back of the team that currently has baseball's best record. This sounds awful, but many Red Sox fans are glad that Kason Gabbard left his third start with Texas due to an injury. Since that injury, I stopped cursing the name of Theo Epstein for acquiring Gagne. Miller, a five-time NBA All-Star, would be expected to play about 15 minutes a game as a backup to seven-time All-Star Ray Allen.If the Celtics sign Miller, they would have filled their 15 roster spots. That would leave them without a quality backup point guard on the roster and three players similar skill-sets in Ray Allen, Miller, and Eddie House. The move may help them, but it might also mean recently signed Jackie Manuel or Brandon Wallace would make a quick exit from Beantown to sign another point guard or big man. Manuel's contract is not guaranteed so releasing him might be a possibility.Having one of the all-time greatest 3-point shooters on your bench is definitely a great thing. However, it appears that Ainge is on the verge of making the best trade of his tenure as GM of the Celts, Garnett for Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo and the expiring contract of Theo Ratliff (and most likely a few first round draft picks). I still question how the T-Wolves don't demand Gerald Green in place of Rondo, but that is a different issue entirely. If such a deal transpires it would certainly jeopardize the Boston Celtic s say five years from now, but I think Ainge already did that when he traded Jeff Green, Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West for Ray Allen, so why the hell not try to pry Garnett away from Minny while conceding even more of the future? Okay, okay they are just putting pads on the former bobsleeder and throwing him out there, he actually does have some football experience.
