Forget those fancy tables I showed you with the embedded TVs; how about a beer pong table that pulses to music and has automatic ball washers?  I’ve always loved CrunchGear ever since they let me write some posts for them last summer, and now I love them even more.  Kudos to Peter Ha for tracking this sucker down.

New York engulfed in Beer Pong Fever

The Washington Square News is reporting on a 17-stop beer pong tournament crisscrossing New York state, with the winner earning the right to advance to the World Championship in Las Vegas.  The tour is being run by the World Pong Tour.

33 of the most awesome beer pong tables I’ve ever seen

Our friends over at Pong A Long posted a pretty cool rundown of The 33 Best Beer Pong Tables Ever Created. Among them are some serious works of art and ingenuity. Head down to #23 and you’ll see a table you’d swear was a basketball court if the camera was zoomed in any further. There’s a pretty nice football field table down at #18, though I wish they had used any team but the New England Patriots. Finally, my personal favorite; #13. All I have to say is BUILT IN TV’s. A lot of the other tables are uniquely designed, but some of the designs seem like they would take away from the game of beer pong more than anything. Thanks to Pong A Long for compiling this great list.

Bouncing off the ceiling? Genius.

Here’s a tip for complete beer pong domination: instead of bouncing off the table, why not try the ceiling? This is utter genius. To pull off a bounce shot using the table, your opponent either has to be distracted or just really slow. Bouncing a ball off the ceiling not only adds an element of surprise (who would be expecting that, honestly?) but the ball only has to go up and back down again, leaving your opponent less prepared to slap it away. When you bounce off the table, the ball must travel from your hand, down onto the table, back up again and then down once more into the cup; three direction changes instead of two. Of course, you’ll have to defend your shot against complaints, but hey - a bounce is a bounce, right?

I came across this shirt today and felt like it was something I had to share. It’s definitely one of the cooler beer pong shirts I’ve seen - a lot of them tend to come off a bit cheesy, but this one has a more cool, mature design. I wish the words “beer pong” didn’t use such a cartoony-looking font, but that’s just me. View this product at Amazon.

UC Santa Barbara students create beer pong league, host tournament

The Daily Nexus, the University of California at Santa Barbara ’s college newspaper, reported today on an upstart beer pong league created by two of its students. The Isla Vista Beer Pong League, founded by Keith Russel and Bradley Odom, held its first two-day beer pong championship this past Saturday and Sunday.  The winning team of John Phelps and Daniel Chang gained entry into the World Series of Beer Pong.  The IVBPL boasts 54 teams - 24 of those teams took part in the two-day championship tournament. As beer pong continues to catch on, look for more leagues to pop up on college campuses and in cities and towns across the country.

I came across wikiHow’s beer pong page and noticed it had a tips section. There aren’t many beer pong tips floating around online, so I thought I’d share a few: “Always aim for a specific cup.” This is good advice. The more you practice aiming, the better your accuracy will become. “…put your shooting hand on a 90 degree angle…” This is also a great tip. Make sure your forearm, from your elbow to your hand, is at a straight 90 degree angle. When you throw, move your forearm forward and keep it completely straight. This tends to be much more accurate than lining the shot up with your eye while your elbow is not directly under your hand. “…follow through.” Make sure your hand continues to follow through toward the cup you’re aiming for after you release the ball. Beer pong promotes drinking in moderation

The Observer, Notre Dame’s student newspaper, published an article on Wednesday about beer pong - For the love of the game. In it, writer Tae Andrews covers hits on a few of the reasons why she loves the game of beer pong.  Tae actually brought up a point that seems to be missed by a lot of beer pong’s detractors: beer pong actually promotes drinking in moderation.  Unlike many other drinking games, if you end a game of beer pong without having drank one beer, you are a force to be reckoned with.  If you get through a game of flip cup without drinking, it’s because you weren’t playing; maybe you weren’t even at a party, you just imagined it. The next time you rack up and play a game of beer pong, be proud to know that you are not only playing the greatest sport in college history, you’re also setting a good example for the world.  Drink in moderation.

  The Wall Street Journal has written a fantastic article looking at all the different ways students and former students have turned their love of beer pong into legitimate businesses.  These young-at-heart entrepreneurs have become rubber mat sellers, beer pong table suppliers and have started up large Las Vegas tournaments, furthering the game while at the same time making some money. Strip beer pong: New twist on a classic

Beer pong has many different variations - however, none so interesting (to me) as Strip Beer Pong . This game can be called many things - Strip Beer Pong , Beer Pong Strip, Stripper Pong or any number of other names. For simplicity’s sake, I’m going to call it Strip Beer Pong. To play Strip Beer Pong, you set the game up pretty much the same as you usually do. Now take a Sharpie (or some other worthy permanent marker) and write an article of clothing on each cup - for example, shoes, shirt, pants, bra and so on. When someone from the other team makes a shot into one of your cups, you have the option to either drink the contents or remove the article of clothing named on the cup. If you strip, the cup stays in play. If you strip and that same cup is made again, you must drink the contents and remove it from play. The guys over at AdamsBalls .com have officially opened their custom pong ball site to the world. If you are in a fraternity or any other organization on a college campus, you should look into buying some of these and slapping your logo on them. They’d probably be great for advertising. I’m going to look into getting some I Love Beer Pong balls made to give away very soon, so stay tuned.

In my particular beer pong rule set, the bounce shot eliminates not only the cup it entered but another cup of your choice. This can be devastating to the opposition. Of course, a bounce shot is difficult to sink because opposing players can slap the ball away before it reaches the cup. The keys here are distractions and skills. Take a look above at the trajectory with which you should bounce the ball off the beer pong table. Bar’s liquor license suspended for hosting beer pong tournament

Don’t archaic laws ruin all the fun? Touchdown Cafe in Ann Arbor, MI will have its liquor license suspended, starting today, for hosting a beer pong tournament. The suspension will last five days. Apparently, Michigan law states that bars cannot hold contests, games or tournaments in which alcohol is consumed. The owners of Touchdown Cafe (as well as a lot of Michigan students) are confused, as well they should be - participation in the tournament did not require the consumption of beer. Some drank water instead and some didn’t drink at all. Therefore, the bar should have been on the right side of the law. Sadly, this is just the case of another poorly written law. It would make sense if people were forced to down beer after beer to be involved in the tournament, but they had the choice of what they wanted to drink, if anything at all. The World Series of Beer Pong

Yes, it is a real tournament. The World Series of Beer Pong is a five-day event taking place in Las Vegas, NV, from January 1st through the 5th. Registration is either $650 for single occupancy or $500 for double occupancy - the package includes your entry into the tournament as well as as lodging at the South Point Hotel. Student union holds weekly beer pong competitions

Only in Canada could something like this occur, and it saddens me that no university in the U.S. (especially my own) would let this happen. The student union at Memorial University of Newfoundland is embracing the sport of beer pong - so much, in fact, that they hold weekly tournaments where the winners receive $100. Lynn Swann plays beer pong

Steelers legend Lynn Swann was campaigning to be Pennsylvania’s governor at an Eagles/Steelers preseason game when a fan asked him to try and sink a beer pong shot. Did Lynn Swann back down? Absolutely not. He took the ball, lined his shot up and sank it his first try. The crowd cheered and the flashbulbs went crazy. Any politician well versed in beer pong is cool with me - too bad he didn’t win.
