Lacking a bit of class
2007-10-28 16:31:00
According to an article on ESPNsoccernet, Jol found out that he had been dismissed by his nephew after the game. In effect, the whole world new he had been sacked before he did--included the fans chanting his name during the game. In the article Jol says he was embarassed, indeed he has every right to be angry about the whole situation. After all that he has done for us, I should think that the man deserved a face-to-face conversation and a fair sending off. Had he not been so successful, common courtesy would still have required more tact in the handling of the situation--just how did we find out that Jol had been sacked, a little bird told us? In a sense, Jol's mistreatment by Levy & Co lasted right up until the moment he was dismissed, no, the moment he found out he was dismissed. The man deserved better...I am ready to support Ramos if he can get results, I only hope that he will be treated better than the last (and most successful in a decade) manager. Here is a factfile on ...

Ever since I started my coaching career I have wanted to work in England. It is my sincere hope that I can repay the faith the Spurs board has shown in me. Ramos has apparently quit as Sevilla manager, according to the BBC. Ramos as the next Spurs manager is sounding more and more definite. Here is a link to the BBC article which mentions Ramos posting a goodbye to Sevilla fans on his website, though I cannot find the post. I do, however, like the website--it is very unpretentious, and it is in Spanish and English which may put to rest some of the questions about Ramos' linguistic abilities. According to the Guardian (article here), Sevilla trainer Marcos Alvarez has also resigned--coming with, perhaps? No doubt there is more to come...

An inventory
2007-10-26 17:53:00
Here is a team inventory posted by cdmurphy from johnny-spot.blogspot.com on the Bigsoccer boards. I thought I would reproduce it because I am fairly certain that Levy, Comolli, and Ramos (along with the rest of the Spurs staff) are regular readers of this blog and no doubt seeking sound advice for the future of the squad. Do visit cdmurphy's website, what else have you to do? Work? Spend time with you friends and family? Exercise? Nonsense. The hopes of fourth place have been replaced by the hope of survival, as Tottenham have officially entered the relegation race. The reason they are there is quite simply, the team is awful. From the board on down, almost everybody had contributed to the downfall. While it’s easy to place the blame on one person, it’s really a collective effort. So, here is a rundown on the most visible parties of the organization and what should be done with them.Paul RobinsonFatty McFat Fat. Unable to handle crosses, set pieces, shots from distance. Parries ...

Thus far there has been no official announcement from Sevilla about Ramos' departure; they have held what has been described as an "emergency meeting", but as of yet have denied that Ramos is leaving. Meanwhile, Mark Hughes (current Blackburn manager) does not consider himself a canidate for the job according to the Guardian (article here). I have heard Hughes' name mentioned a couple of times as a replacement for Jol, and I thought he had a pretty fair chance at getting the job--his kind of success at Blackburn is appealing to board and fans alike. So the Jol replacement waltz continues...I have noticed that ESPNsoccernet, the Guardian, Sky Sports, and the BBC have softened their language regarding the certainty of Ramos replacing Jol.It was also announced today that Hans Segers (our goalkeeper coach and a former keeper for us--for those that didn't know) has been sacked as well (article here), which to me appears to be a justifiable sacking given the current state of our goalke...

I really love YouTube. I particularly like to search for classic Spurs footage. I will post the fruits of my labour from time to time so that we can all (even those of us that are of the younger generations) re-live some of the great moments in our history and pay tribute to our greatest players. Respect the legends. Here is the 1984 UEFA Cup Finals run, I thought it was quite timely. Its kind

Who are you and what are you doing here?

So most think that Juande Ramos is set to take over for Jol, but Clive Allen will be in charge against Blackburn this weekend. Many are no doubt wondering who Ramos is--to that end here is a link to the bio on his website. He has an impressive record as a manager with Sevilla, two UEFA Cups in as many years as well as a domestic cup and European Supercup. I have only seen his Sevilla side play a

C'mon you Spurs...(exasperated sigh)
2007-10-25 22:40:00
The UEFA cup match is at full-time and already there are "unsubstantiated reports" that Jol was to be fired regardless of the resolution (here and here). A 1-2 defeat at the start of the UEFA group stage is surely the last straw, especially to a side that we were supposed to beat soundly. It seems hard to believe now that Jol will be with us for Sunday's match against Blackburn. We looked good
