Best Combination Lock Ever
2008-06-05 17:20:00
I saw this the other day on Popgadget and had no idea how soon I would need it. A combination lock that uses letters so you can spell a word - much easier to remember than numbers, at least for me. You can even set your own word so it’ll be easy for you to ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Best Combination Lock Ever", url: "http://faster-running.com/equipment/best -combination-lock-ever/" });
Training Plan for NYC Marathon
2008-06-04 04:34:00
It’s time for me to start another training cycle - this time I’m going to be stepping up my mileage to train for the New York Marathon on November 2. I didn’t qualify for the race, but instead got in through their rule that if you don’t get in by lottery for 3 years in ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Training Plan for NYC Marathon", url: "http://faster-running.com/general-traini ng/training-plan-for-nyc-marathon/" });
Running on Vacation
2008-05-23 02:20:00
The Grand Tetons Originally uploaded by Stuck in Customs I’m going on about a week’s vacation with my husband, starting tomorrow. As the photo suggests, we’re going up to Wyoming. We don’t have any definite plans of where we’re going to stop, other than to visit his aunt who lives ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Running on Vacation ", url: "http://faster-running.com/personal-musin gs/running-on-vacation/" });
Race Day Magic at the Colfax Half
2008-05-18 19:37:00
It was a beautiful day for a race. It felt a little cool at the 6 a.m. start - I’m guessing in the low 50s F - but plenty warm enough for short sleeves, especially since a high of 85 F was expected for the day. I was a bit apprehensive about the start of the ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Race Day Magic at the Colfax Half ", url: "http://faster-running.com/races/colfax-h alf-marathon-results/" });
Colfax Half Marathon Goals
2008-05-14 03:14:00
Since my 8-miler on Sunday, I’ve been thinking off and on about my goals for the Colfax Half Marathon on Sunday. As I said, I know I’m not in the shape right now that I’d need to be in to run a PR since I had to take quite a bit of time off from ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Colfax Half Marathon Goals ", url: "http://faster-running.com/races/colfax-h alf-marathon-goals/" });
One Week Until Colfax
2008-05-11 21:49:00
Next Sunday is my first half-marathon of the year - the Colfax Half Marathon. For various reasons, including my problems earlier in the year with plantar fasciitis, I’m feeling a bit undertrained - but it’s really too late now to do much about that! This week, I’ve been in taper mode. I’m ending the week with ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "One Week Until Colfax", url: "http://faster-running.com/general-traini ng/one-week-until-colfax/" });
Last Long Run
2008-05-04 23:13:00
The Colfax Half Marathon is just two weeks away, so this morning I got up early to put in my last long run before race day. For the past few weeks, I haven’t managed to get out of the house much before 10 a.m. for my long runs, but this week I was out by ...SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Last Long Run", url: "http://faster-running.com/general-traini ng/last-long-run/" });
Run with Your Arms
2008-04-27 19:51:00
While it’s true that the lower half of our bodies do the bulk of the work when we’re running, it’s good to keep in mind that running really is a whole body activity. If you don’t believe me, try a quick experiment: run for about 100 yards with your arms folded across your chest or hanging at your sides. Awkward and slow, isn’t it? Even though it’s pretty easy to establish that your arms do play an important role in running, it seems that there isn’t complete agreement about the best way to move them: In Galloway’s Book on Running, Jeff Galloway says “the less arm swing, the better” and that you should “let gravity do your arm work”. If you don’t have Jeff’s book, you can see an excerpt from this section of the book on google book search. Danny Dreyer of Chi Running says you should concentrate on swinging your arms to the rear rather than to the front because a frontward swing will cause your legs to...

Essential Running Equipment
2008-04-12 22:57:00
One of the many things I like about running is its simplicity. Unlike a lot of other sports (hockey for one - I’m glad I’m not a hockey parent!) - very little is needed to participate. Arguably, all you need are some clothes - how little or how much is up to you and your ... Spring is Here - Time for Interval Training!
2008-04-08 06:02:00
Spring is here…probably my favorite time to run. Not only is the weather great - except for the occasional spring downpour - but this is the time of year when the local running club I belong to, Rocky Mountain Road Runners, starts doing weekly track workouts. The group that shows up for track is generally pretty diverse. There’s a pretty broad age range - last week there were high school age kids there, and we’ve also had 60+ year olds show up for workouts. The pace ranges are pretty broad too, from the folks that often place in the top few in their age groups, to the upper-midpackers like me, and sometimes even a few folks that are slower than me. Usually there are at least a couple of people that are about my pace. The format is pretty similar every week - we start with a few laps of warming up on our own, and then get together for a few drills. Then, the intervals start - this workout varies every week, depending upon what the group leaders have planned. Last...

Six Word Memoir
2008-03-30 06:35:00
I’ve been tagged by Marcus at Sweet Victory to write a six-word memoir. So, how does one go about summing up their life in only six words? Well, that seems like too tough of a challenge to me, so I’m going to cheat a little and make it a six word running memoir. Here goes: Ate ... Running on a Treadmill Increases Injury Risk?

Your Ideal Weight?

Strength Training for Runners

Plantar Fasciitis
2008-02-22 00:28:00
It’s time for me to face it - I really am injured. It’s been almost 2 weeks since my last decent run. I’ve run just two times since February 15 - a 2-mile run last Sunday, and 1 mile on the treadmill on Tuesday. After Sunday’s run, my left heel didn’t feel too bad. ...

Another Running Playlist
2008-01-30 23:13:00

Does Donating Blood Effect Your Running?
