Oklahoma St-Pitt Matchup a great one?on paper
2007-12-15 16:19:00 The Pitt sburgh Panthers are sitting at 9-0 and looking to go 10-0 for the fifth consecutive year today versus Oklahoma St. While The Cowboys are a solid 5-3, most people aren’t giving them a shot versus Pitt, mostly due to the fact that the Cowboys consistency hasn’t exactly been that at all, and Pitt has ... Is the Atlantic 10 Conference the Dark Horse of Men?s Basketball?
2007-12-14 19:40:00 Quick–before reading this article, name 5 Atlantic 10 teams…I’m waiting… I always loved the term Dark Horse. It conjures up visions of like the Headless Horseman, the mysterious fog, and sneaking up on villains to conquer the world. In this case, I am looking a gift horse right in the mouth. Ok, I have never gotten that ... More About: Basketball , College Basketball , Dark Horse , The Dark

Can Petrino bring ?Hogs to the top?
2007-12-13 03:32:00 Bobby Petrino was basically the next best thing when he brought a Louisville team to national prominence. Then, he followed the path that so many coaches take and try their hand in the NFL. Normally, they take their lumps and either build a franchise or flail back into oblivion, and a lot of times, back ... More About: College Football , Hogs
And just like that, St. Mary?s bubble bursts
2007-12-13 02:55:00 St. Mary ’s had not been ranked for almost 18 years in the top 25. They got their chance this week to be among the elite, and so they promptly get stomped by Southern Illinois by 15. SIU has always been one of those dangerous teams, and they proved it again by dominating the Gaels on the ... More About: Bubble

Willingham to return as Huskies Coach?Hello? Is this thing on?
2007-12-05 22:48:00 “Quick–Raise your hand if you suck at coaching!” Like a sweeping ghost from the vapors comes a University of Washington official to discuss under anonymity that Ty Willingham will be retained as coach for the Huskies next year. The problem is….no one REALLY cares. Seriously, what has Willingham really accomplished? He didn’t do jack at Notre Dame, ... More About: College Football , Coach , Return , Thing
Durant Schmurant?Texas off to huge start
2007-12-05 03:18:00 Oh, the long faces were evident the first time the Texas Longhorns stepped on the floor for the 2007-08 season. Was it because they were going to plain awful? No. Was it because they were facing an unwinnable game? Nope. The answer was simple: No Kevin Durant. Durant, who left after his freshman year at Texas ... More About: Start , Texas Longhorns , Huge
Ohio State is number 1: Hold on while I laugh?Really LOUD
2007-12-03 05:16:00 You know those times when you hear a joke, or you are watching a show where the funny bone is literally twinging as you laugh until your ribs hurt? ACC Spanks Big 10 8-3 in annual challenge
2007-11-29 16:38:00 In what is forming into something similar to the Harlem Globetrotters streak against the Washington Generals, the ACC completed an 8-3 margin over the Big 10 in their annual challenge between the conferences. Is it really a “challenge” though?? I mean, the ACC is beating up on them like they were playing Division II schools, ... More About: Indiana , Duke , Challenge , Annual , Halle
Auburn?s security is for the dogs
2007-11-29 02:11:00 Ask Jerraud Powers about what he remembers best about the game with Alabama, and you would think it would be that they eeked out a victory and being able to beat Nick Saban. But that’s not what he will say. Powers was bitten–yes bitten–by a security dog that was in the end zone during the game. ... More About: Security , Dogs , College Football , Auburn , Burn

2007-11-28 03:36:00 While everyone prognosticates about the fervor that the BCS is bringing, all of the matchups that could be a possibility, there is one thing that remains with the teams that are near the top of the standings, and that is the fact that they all lost games at the right time. Is Brandon Rush the best in NCAA hoops?
2007-11-26 19:12:00 Sporting a game that reminds of Reggie Lewis, Brandon Rush may just be the best in college basketball. Making Sense of the BCS
2007-11-26 00:41:00 Sense and BCS usually don’t go together. With its odd-quirkier-than-Horshack-from-Welcome-b ack-Kotter formulas and rewards for teams that win and lose at the “right” time, the Bowl Championship Series is usually anything but–and this year, with no dominant teams stepping forward like normal, the BCS is almost laughable at how things are “going” now. Arkansas-LSU sideshow greater than matchup
2007-11-23 17:49:00 Yes, yes, Arkansas has Darren McFadden, Mr. All-everything, and likely top 5 pick in the NFL draft. Oregon just can?t catch a break: Upset by Saint Mary?s
2007-11-21 16:14:00 Ernie Kent was coming home. In classic Thanksgiving fashion, his highly-touted Ducks, whom I have pumped, were coming to Moraga, California, to play the Saint Mary ’s Gaels. It would be a good game for the Ducks, a nice non-conference tuneup, plus it would put a little chunk of change in Saint Mary’s athletic fund. What Kent ... Carr?s departure may start coaching carousel
2007-11-19 00:07:00 It happened a few years ago on a large level in college basketball. First, Roy Williams left Kansas for UNC. Then, Bill Self left Illinois to take the Kansas job. Another #2 Bites the Dust: This time it is Oregon
2007-11-16 14:13:00 So, I post about the Ducks’ greatness and then–poof–like a sickening magic trick, Oregon falls to unheralded Arizona. Now, let’s give the Ducks credit that they had to play with virtually unstoppable Dennis Dixon, who went down with a knee injury in the first half. But the shocking thing is that while Dixon is a ... You read it here first: Hoyas best team in country
2007-11-16 03:29:00 Sure, UNC has the names and the stud coach. They’ve got the masses that follow them like a zombie nation, and they certainly have the media backing. Nipping behind North Carolina is UCLA and its defensive stalwart combined with a deep team and some sensational frosh players. But what about Georgetown? Sure, the Hoyas have the respect of the number 5 ranking, but what do they not have that these other teams do? I’m waiting…..tick tock tick tock…where’s my answer? Didn’t think so…. The Hoyas have the names (Roy Hibbert and Patrick Ewing Jr), the defensive ability (hasn’t Georgetown ALWAYS been known for their defensive abilities?), and the fact that they have the experience in being in the Final Four this year–what do they NOT have is the better question? While NC is creeping by Davidson and having to pull it out in the last minute, Georgetown is blowing out Big 10 teams like Michigan by over 20. The biggest factor, of course, i... Does Oregon deserve the #1 spot?
2007-11-14 17:41:00 The debate still continues on and on….no, not Pepsi vs. Coke (remember those taste tests in the stores–The Pepsi challenge?). Sorry about that–fast forward to the 21st century. Anyways, I am talking about who deserves to be #1. At this stage of the season, it is critical that teams have their rightful place, even though rarely does it end up that way with the BCS and their jank scoring system. LSU has once again reclaimed the #1 distinction, and there is a lot of furor out there that Oregon and even Kansas deserve the top spot. Why? Well, for one, Oregon is a far more feel-good story than LSU. The Tigers are the SEC bully, one of the “big uns” every year, and I think public sentiment wants to see someone else in the top spot. To me, it’s why teams like South Florida went so high in the rankings–because it is like the Hickory Hoosiers beating the big school in the state final–it ain’t supposed to happen. But Oregon deserves a lit... More About: Spot , Serve
Ducks looking impressiveāin basketball
2007-11-13 17:01:00 For me to say that the Oregon Ducks are looking impressive, I am sure you’d start raving about Dennis Dixon and the spread offense and the greatness of the Pac-10 and, I would say, “nay”. Not that those things aren’t true, but I am not talking about football–I am referring to hoops. Standing at #11 in this week’s NCAA basketball poll, the Ducks are an impressive 3-0 and looking to capitalize on some early competition–albeit that it’s not stellar (when is it this early?) . But even beating a team like Western Michigan by almost double digits is nothing to sneeze at (Bless you). And the fact that they’ve rolled these 3 games out in three days is impressive as well. Lead by Malik Hairston, who had a helluva year last year with a plethora of injuries,Ā the Ducks are deep and poised; with coach Ernie Kent who isn’t just your average coach, the Ducks could be one of the most dangerous teams in the country that many seem to forge... Will the real Big Ten champion please stand up?
2007-11-12 17:03:00 Well, it’s pretty clear as to why all of the fuss was for Ohio St. and Illinois–because everyone smelled the upset possibility. But did anyone really anticipate Wisconsin handling Michigan as they did? It’s just one of those years for the Big 10–you can say that parity is what is happening there, but I see otherwise. Illinois is the feel-good team of the league this year after basically being nothing short of awful the last several years. Ron Zook was cast off as soon as he basically lost a game in Florida and has rebuilt the program nicely. Indiana also has looked pretty good this year, riding the emotion of losing coach Terry Hoeppner to cancer and going by his motto “play 13″. But other than that, things have been kind of ugly for the Big 10. Notwithstanding the huge rise in talent in the Pac 10 and the Big 12, and as always the SEC, the big meanies of the big 10, Ohio St. and Michigan, haven’t really struck all that much fear in teams. Georgia-Auburn: The Classic Offense-Defense matchup
More articles from this author:2007-11-10 19:27:00 Not many gave Georgia too much of a chance at being this good. Ranked #10 and coasting with 3 victories in a row, they’ve relied on a freshman running back and made some key plays at key times. (Duh).Ā In the SEC, where dominance is something that doesn’t occur much, Georgia is still in the hunt for the SEC title game which has huge BCS implications However–they are not in control of their destiny. Holding a smidgeon of a lead over Tennessee and Florida, if the Vols win out, they take the Western division title in a tiebreaker. So every game therefore is absolutely monumental to the Bulldogs. And then there is Auburn . Only ranked at #18. I say that because I think Auburn is one of the most underrated teams in the country and being 18 is a slap in the face. They got beat on a fluke play by powerhouse LSU and have shut every team down defensively (except LSU). This team deserves more cred. So, we have a classic matchup of good ole’ fashioned SEC offense and de... More About: Classic , Defense , Burn 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
