USC-Cal a little different than expected…
2007-11-10 15:17:00 Those of us who follow college football know about USC and their role as being the big bully–let’s just say the word “dynasty” has come up quite a bit during Pete Caroll’s tenure. Coming into the season, they were again put at the top of the heap–but this year there was that little smirk of “are you sure?” on fans’ faces (along with lots of ridiculous body paint). So when the Trojans finished 2-2 for October, no one was sending Carroll and his squad much sympathy (maybe other than Charlie Weis out of pure cathartic notions). While they still continue to battle for a BCS spot, the luster off the shiny (but ugly) helmet has worn thin–for this year, at least. Cal, on the other hand, was a team on the upswing, the “chic” team to like, and with charming coach leading the Golden Bears to improbably victories at the beginning of the year, Cal rose to the #2 slot in the country. And if you are the son of Michael Jordan reading this blog, I’m blushing. Sorry–focus, daniel-son–But for the most part–you can basically do what you want, have the financial means to do so, and therefore have many more options than what others do. So, when you consider that Jeffrey Jordan was offered several scholarships to smaller colleges and some Division IIs, but then decided that he wanted to walk on to the University of Illinois, naysayers will note that he most certainly can pay his way through school anyways, so not having a scholarship is not an issue.
