NFL ROTY
2006-12-07 20:10:00
As the year winds down we start to think about postseason awards. Who is the NFL MVP? Who is the comeback player of the year? Drew Brees can make a strong campaign for both of these awards with his potential record breaking season, not to mention leading the Saints to a more than probable NFC South title. One award he can’t win however is Rookie of the Year. This is going to be a close race. A couple of weeks ago the chase seemed unattainable when the rookie from nowhere Marques Colston was blowing everyone away. In the Hofstra alum’s first nine games of his NFL career he quickly became Drew Brees’ favorite target with his impressive speed for a guy with a tight end frame and his ability to run between the numbers without any fear. Through nine games he had 54 receptions, 869 yards and 7 touchdowns. That’s an average of 6 catches and 96.5 yards per game as a rookie! But unfortunately in his tenth game Colston severely injured his ankle and has missed the past two weeks. In t...
Fantasy Week 14
2006-12-06 21:40:00
It’s week 14 and that means fantasy madness. Owners all over the world are desperate for that last playoff spot in their leagues. Most leagues start playoffs next week so there’s only one more chance to grab that coveted spot. A lot of, hell most owners are already out of the race, but that doesn’t mean they should just lay down and not care about their team. Play hard or don’t play at all. Make whoever gets that last playoff spot earn it. With that being said, here’s my fantasy locks, sleepers and avoids of the week.QB: Jeff Garcia. Garcia has been more than an adequate replacement for the IR listed Donovan McNabb. In his two games, Garcia has thrown five touchdowns and hasn’t given the ball to the defense yet. Last week he looked like the Jeff of old and I see that continuing this week. Although their on the road, this team is fighting for a playoff spot so they will be pumped and ready for this game. In their first meeting against the Redskins the team had 250 yards a...

Eagles a wildcard team?
2006-12-05 20:20:00
When Donovan McNabb went down with a season ending torn right ACL injury two weeks ago, I was one of the guys that said “there goes the Eagles season.” Even with McNabb at the helm the Eagles were struggling. After starting the season 4-1 and surprising everyone, the magic disappeared in Philly. All of a sudden the Eagles couldn’t do anything right as they had a three game losing streak followed by 1-2 stretch with losses to the Colts and Titans. Going into last night’s game the Eagles had lost five of their previous six games. But wait just a second; if the season ended today, Philly would be in the playoffs with a wildcard spot. It sounds unbelievable, but yes the NFC is so bad that a .500 team is in the lead for the wildcard. Last night the 36 year old Jeff Garcia looked like the young, Pro-Bowl quarterback we saw in San Francisco as he went 21/39 for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. His performance made Philly fans believe they have a shot at the post-season and their right. ...

Florida is BCS bound
2006-12-04 18:32:00
After exploding in the first half to a 17-0 lead, the Flor ida Gator offense fell apart. Early in the second half Senior QB Chris Leak stared down his receiver over the middle, never seeing the awaiting linebacker who caught the ball with ease. On Leak’s very next throw he once again made an ill advised pass, this time a shovel pass that was intercepted by Antwain Robinson, a defensive lineman, who returned it for a touchdown giving Arkansas its first lead of the game. On Florida’s next drive things only got worse as a confused Urban Meyer exhausted all of the Gators’ timeouts with five minutes still left to go in the third quarter. But football is a game that can turn very quickly, such was the case Saturday night. After Florida used its last timeout on a 4th and 1 play, Meyer decided to be conservative and punt the ball. Ten seconds later Meyer looked like a genius as Arkansas punt returner Reggie Fish inexplicitly tried to field the ball over his shoulder inside the Razorback...

Dominant Bengals' D?
2006-12-01 17:19:00
In last night's Thursday night game there was a dominant defensive performance from the team not hailing from Baltimore. That's right, the Cincinnati defense came up big last night by holding the Ravens to only one touchdown that came in the last two minutes of the game. The Bengals held the Billick driven offense to just eight yards per reception and the new play caller is to blame for this. With Cincy being dead last in the NFL in passing defense and their star corner Deltha O'Neal out of the game, Billick never tried to establish a deep threat in his attack. Instead the head coach decided to run nothing but passes underneath with eight men in the box. Maybe he was setting up the long ball with all these short passes, but the result didn't come until it was too late. Billick has to know that Cincy is vulnerable to the pass and even more so with O'Neal being out. The Bengals' played a run strong defense the entire game leaving the Ravens' fast wideout Mark Clayton with one-o...
