Plano 1444
2007-08-14 08:57:00 Bought this Plano tackle box a while ago. I've been using this SureCatch tackle box for the past couple of years and it's perfect. Durable and waterproof. Can even sit on it. But very often, when I go on 2 days trips to places like Merchung, Rompin, Pekan etc where I'll be doing jigging, popping, bottom, trolling, balloon, etc, i find the box way too small. :-) Perfect excuse for an upgrade. Wreck Revisited & P9
2007-08-08 09:18:00 Initially, a trip was planned to Pulau Jarak with some kakis from MFN. But the multiple bust-offs I had when I last went to the wreck was just too tempting. So a decision was made to put our asses through a 2-hour bumpy boat ride to the Indonesia border to fish at the wreck once again. Unfortunately, history was not meant to be rewritten...The wreck was a total opposite compared to our last visit. No bust-offs at all. In fact, we didn't have anything close to a bust-off. We did in total lost around a dozen jigs to the Tenggiris. This was the only decent Tenggiri landed at the wreck :-) We also lost a barracuda by the boat side when we tried to gaff it. Fortunately, the Grouper spot was still quite obliging :-) 5kg+ grouper. Rod - Tenryu JigZam PE3-5. Reel - Shimano Stella 8000. Line - Kitaya Batline, 40lbs. Leader - YGK Castman 80lbs. JIGs JIGs JIGs
2007-08-07 04:21:00 Another expensive part of jigging, is the JIG itself. Of cos, there are always cheap and expensive ones. But like most jiggers I know, you tend to have MORE jigs than you need. And to make matter worst, any tackle shop you go to, there's an endless variety of jigs to choose from; long or short, fat or skinny, knife-shaped or needle-shaped, blue, pink, green, rainbow, luminous, reflective, etc. etc. And more often than not, these jigs are designed and packaged for the JIGGERs, not the fish :-) Anyway, going back to the 'expensive part of jigging', there are 2 school of thoughts that I've come across. 1 group believes that the JIG, is just a piece of metal. Any brands will catch you the big elusive ones. In fact, the cheaper, the better. You often hear them say 'No need to buy the expensive ones. My biggest Dogtooth was landed using a RM10 jig!!'. Makes sense? Yeah... :-) Afterall, there has been countless testaments by my friends, and myself :-pAnother group believes in the pri... More About: Misc

2007-08-01 04:55:00 Gonna keep this write-up short and simple. It was a fun trip with 3 of my colleagues who rarely goes sea fishing. Day 1 was planned for Sailfish, and Day 2 was planned for bottom fishing.Sailfish day was good. We had many hookups, but unfortunately all but 1 were lost. Day 2 was spent bottom fishing. But mostly small fishes.Dharma with the beer. He lost 3 sails btw... :-p Terry, with the beer again.Nicholas, beer again. What's with the face? :-sNicholas disposing of some beer... Jigging Assist Hook - DIY - Part IV
2007-07-20 04:42:00 Here are a couple more ways to tie assist hooks :-) Jigging Assist Hook - Knots Start off with a single strand through the hook. The end on the left will be use to loop the hook. The one on the right will stay stationery til later.Make a small loop along side the hook. Once the loop is formed, using the same strand, circle the hook several rounds and push the end through the loop. Then pull the other end to tighten the knot. DONE.Here's a another sample of the same knot. No glue needed in this. This is VERY secure and tight. Here's another way. This has got to be the easiest. A few drops of super glue here to prevent any slippage. DONE!! :-)Hope these 4 parts of Assist Hook tying is informative. Much apologies on the blurry pictures. If you have any comments, feel free to share. More About: Part
Jigging Assist Hook - DIY - Part III
2007-07-19 05:48:00 And now to add in a bit of variety. - Knotless double hook -Since its double hooks, a longer kevlar is needed. Lets start off splicing the kevlar with the solid ring. Same thing, splice the kevlar with the solid ring looped in. Pull the spliced kevlar all the way through.Until the solid ring is tighten with the kevlarSome gentle massage to tighten the spliced part. A bit of super glue on the neck of the 'Y' and the tip at the solid ring would provide additional security against slippage. With the solid ring in place, the 2 strands of extended kevlar will be spliced for the hooks.First spliced...Pull through. Trim and tightenSecond splicePull through. Trim and tightenApply super glue where necessary for added security.Insert hooks. Jigging Assist Hook - DIY - Part II
2007-07-18 04:33:00 Jigging Assist Hook - Knotless / SpliceThis is one of my favourite DIYs. So lets go through some of the 'ingredients' needed :-)1) Hollow kevlar 2) Sharp scissor :-p duh....kekekeke....3) Splicing NeedleAnd off we go!!! It took me a few trials and errors in the beginning to get it right. And since the needles and kevlars comes in different sizes, you need to match them. And the main thing is to estimate the amount of kevlar needed, and the points where you want to insert the splicing needle. Start off by inserting the needle completely in the hollow kevlar. Once it's through, hook on to the other end of the kevlar and gently pull it through. Please note, no force or turning is needed here. Just some gentle massage will do. Once it's through, some trimming and massaging and it's done. The 'massage' helps to tighten the 'spliced' part of the kevlar so that it will not slip. And now to hook it up. And the same applies to the other end. The difference here is to loop in a solid... More About: Misc , Part
Shimano Stella 8000 - Line Cap
2007-07-16 05:29:00 Initially, I wanted to load the reel with 30lbs line. But after much consideration and research, I decided on 40lbs. And I choosed Kitaya Batline, #3.0, 400 metres. The beauty of this line is definitely the thin diameter and also the durability. I have the same line on my Accurate 665 and after several trips, the colour is still pitch black and no fur. But there is a downside. It's very very noisy, especially with spinning reels. Not that it bugs me as most of the time, I'll have my earphones with my MP3 player. Hehehehehe....good luck to those jigging beside me...Another reason I choosed this line is also the fact that they sell it by spool of 100 metres. Unlike others like Power Pro or Berkley or YGK, etc. they come in spools of 300/500 yds. So very often, you end up with too much or too little.400 metres of 40lbs braid. Perfect fit! Jigging Assist Hook - DIY - Part I
2007-07-15 07:08:00 1 of the interesting part of jigging, is that you get to DIY a lot of stuffs. One of them being the assist hooks. Of course you can always buy them ready made with brands like Zenaq, Owner, Shout!, Varivas, etc. But there is always more satisfaction from DIYs :-p Also, with DIY, you get to have more variations. Most ready made assist hooks are usually singles. With DIYs, you can have them Doubles, or even Triples if you fancy. Here are some of my DIYs :-)Singles and Doubles Doubles, Even Length. This is my favourite. Hook ed the most fish :-) Single Hook Double Strand & Single Hook Single StrandDouble Hook, Uneven Length Here are some Knotless ones. The necessary tool for knotless assist hooks. My next post will be on how to tie one of these. Dunno why it got rusted... Some fancy ones...cut those from the plastic duster. Jig with Shout! Jaco sheet. Tied using dental floss. Sitiawan - Wreck - 9th July 2007
2007-07-11 04:54:00 THE INTROThis is one of those trips where there was absolutely no anticipation at all. At least until the night we sat down and chat with some of the other boatman. We left KL around 9pm and head towards Sitiawan. We arrived around midnight, and unloaded all our stuffs in the hostel and proceeded to the cafe for some beer. Sitting around another table next to us, were several local boatmen whom from their looks and volume of speech, were clearly intoxicated. The location that we will be fishing the next day is a wreck close to the Indonesia border. A location (according to the boatman) that he hardly goes to due to the distance and also the security. Ah Chung, the boatman, has been quite popular lately with his trips to Pulau Sembilan and Jarak and the abundance Queenfishes/Talang, and also baby GTs. His old boat 'Talang' was recently replaced with 'Tuna'. The Tuna is bigger in terms of size and horsepower. But the Talang is higher in fuel consumption, hence the changed. I must ... Shimano Caranx Kaibutsu - Light Pleasure
2007-07-06 10:29:00 YEAH!! New popping rod :-) Shimano Caranx Kaibutsu - Light Pleasure . Matched with Shimano Stella 8000. May match it with the Daiwa Caldia Kix 4000, but looks really weird as although the rod is only PE 2-4, it's looks and feels too strong. Anyway, will be bringing it to Rompin end of the month to pop for sail and GT. PE 2-4. Just nice. Anything heavier, it'll go to my Extreme Anglers Custom PE7.Shimano Caranx KAIBUTSU - Wiki the word 'Caranx' and you'll get a bunch of fish names like GT, Mackerel, Kingfish, etc. Webster's will give 'A genus of fishes, common on the Atlantic coast, including the yellow or golden mackerel.' Daiwa Treble Hook Cover
2007-07-06 10:24:00 Last week, went and bought like 30 packs of these. Very useful to have around the tackle box. Keeps all the trebles out of harm's way. You can reach into your tackle box and just grab a bunch of lures and you will not get hooked. Most importantly, nothing gets tangle up. Somemore branded, Daiwa! :-pThe round extension is to let you to pull the cover off the treble. It snaps out quickly when you pull it. Very functional. Positoin the cover on the treble and push it through and it clicks. Once click, it'll be held in place. The cover does takes up a bit of space. Which is good. Less space means less purchase. 2007-07-06 05:50:00 A friend wanted some pictures of this for some DIY, and hence this post. Definitely a very useful thing to have around, especially when you have back to back trips. Kenyir - August 2005
2007-07-03 04:38:00 THE ONE WITH ALL THE CURIOSITY1 fine afternoon over a weekend 20 years ago, I went to my auntie's house with my parents to have a midday gathering. Upon reaching, I noticed my 2 elder counsins were packing some weird looking sticks and motors, which I later learned they are call rods and reels. I sat there with full curiosity, asking them how they use their sticks and motors, and how they catch fish with them. To push the curiosity further, they also have 'square nets', which they used for crabbing. 'How dumb can the fishes and crabs be?', I thought to myself; a perception which is opposite now.Feeling the overwhelming weight of question marks on my head and shoulder, I went to my parents and pulled a shirt tugging stunt with puppy eyes and angel smile, and a finger pointing at my counsins who are still packing, and said, 'I wanna go...' And my cooperative cousins noticed and said 'Don't worry! It's very safe. We'll take care of him.'My parents nodded. BIG MISTAKE!!! Hah... More About: August , August 2

Temenggor - 23rd June - 25th June - Pt I
2007-06-27 05:34:00 This trip was planned almost 2 months ago. After so many disappointing trips, I've given up on the anticipation part of most trips. Usually, before my trips, I'll be really excited and kept on thinking what and how much I'll catch and all. Not anymore. 2 months ago, my friend called and asked if I wanna go Temen ggor, I asked how much and just said 'Go! Go! Go!'. And didn't think about it ever since then. :-)We (4 of us) left KL on the 22nd June (Friday) evening and drove all the way to Gerik to spend the nite. Another group is leaving KL the next day at 6am. We stopever at Ipoh for some Ipoh Chicken and taugeh. Here are some pictures from the journey. :-)Right opposite where we had our dinner/supper, a biscuit shop with very bright and delicious biscuits!Looks really nice. So we bought some for to Temenggor. This is where we had our tauge & chicken. Supposedly one of the better ones. 20 years ago, income tax people came here and sat at their shop to count how many chicken heads... More About: Fresh
Nenasi (???) - 27th May 2007
2007-05-28 05:12:00 40 days! That's how long I stayed high and dry since my KK fishing trip. I was supposed to have gone to Nena si couple times in the past few weeks but got caught up at work and stuffs. It was quite a tiring trip as we had to leave KL at 1am on a Sunday morning and we reached Nenasi, Pahang at around 5am. I was the part-time cum co driver so I didn't sleep at all. The boat ride to ???/Nail Island took us about two and a half hours. Our main objective to ??? was popping. But unfortunately, my only popping rod is a PE7 8 footer which I felt was WAY overkill. 2007-04-23 06:53:00 Lets continue on the KK trip. My Hutan Melintang trip a month back, I was under-gunned. So when I was doing a pre-packed a week before the trip, I told myself 'I'm so gonna OVER-PACK!!'. So it turned out, I was so OVER-gunned. I brought 4 rods (V Fox PE 6-8, Xzoga PE 5-6, G Craft Short Rodder PE 6, JigZam PE 5) and 5 reels (Accurate Boss Magnum 665-80lbs, Daiwa Dogfight-80lbs, Daiwa Saltist 40-50lbs, Avet SX-40lbs, Shimano Navi 8000-40lbs). Once we were on board, I set up my Accurate with my Xzoga, DogFight with V Fox, Avet with Short Rodder, and left the Jigzam and Navi in the bag. And I think after half a day of jiggin, the Accurate, DogFight, Avet, Xzoga, V Fox, all went back into the bag. Jigzam and Navi became the main arsenal throughout for jigging 100-200grams of jigs. And the G Craft Short Rodder was paired with the Saltist for bottom fishing. As usual, there's always a 'Gaya Centre' on boat. This was the catch on our first spot. Anyway, just placed a verbal booking for Sea Maiden I for next year April to Spratly. So at least something to look forward to for the rest of the year :-pThis KK trip was a 'blind' trip.
