Pekan Deep Sea - 19th May 2006
2006-11-22 08:20:00 Sunrise...hmm...Not so romantic when you are in a boat with 4 men :-pThese areas should be good for casting... The crab eating Kaci! :-)Overall very good trip. There was a 1 hour window of 'taruk makan'. Unfortunately for one of the kaki, while we were taruking and makaning, his first drop of his bait went into a spin and everything was tangle up. Took him 30 minutes to untangle and re-rig. By the time he drop again, he hook up 2 sucker fish :-s while we were landing 'Lung Jim' and 'Sek Pan'. Sunset...4 stinking men...hmm... Couldn't get the rod out from the rod holder in the first few seconds. Also partly due to inexperience and panic of course :-pDinner - Sea food again of course. More About: Salt

Daiwa Saltiga Z6500H DOGFIGHT - Ultimate Popping Reel
2006-11-21 07:03:00 My ultimate popping setup!! Loaded with 300m of 80lbs Xzoga braid. Matched with Extreme Angler Customs Poppi ng Rod, 7'4'', PE 7. Took me months of research between Stella 10k, 20k and Saltiga Exp before settling down with the DOGFIGHT. Main reason is the solid built of the entire reel. And of course the BLACK body! The Stellas seems to be more popular, which I assumed, as most of the Japanese fishing VCD which I've watched, most of them uses Stella. However the 'plastics' around the body is just not so appealing. Visually it's not as tough as Saltigas. Even when hold them in your hands, you can see and feel that the Saltigas are built much tougher. However, do love the drag setup within the spool. As for Saltiga Exp, the 3 holes on the reel 'leg' is equivalent to 3 holes in my confidence. In terms of smoothness, I do feel Stella has the edge. Avet SX 5.0
2006-11-21 06:54:00 If you are looking for a light/medium jigging/bottom outfit, LOOK NO FURTHER!!!Solid and simple built. Striking colour. High line capacity. Loud Clicker. Small yet Powerful.Change the handle, and you've got yourself a pretty little noisy KILLER!!Used it for bottom in places like Pekan and Rompin. If you hook yourself a parrotfish/ang kor, easy money!Good for medium jigging too; below 200gms. The ever present clicking sound when you turn the handle can be annoying for some. But it kinda gives me the rhythm when jigging, and also break the silence when doing bottom fishing. More About: Reels
Daiwa Caldia Kix 4000
2006-11-21 06:51:00 My first choice for light and/or medium jigging :-)A reasonably priced made in Japan reel. Smooth. Good drag. Handsome. And of course, the RCS Knob is a must have :-p Got my RCS Knob from HK (thank you Bikergrrl!!!) as when I bought the reel, I couldn't find it anywhere in M'sia. Only recently, they have tons of it in Sykt Kepong. Do note, out of the box, the knob does not come with a bearing; which is a must have.Reel's loaded with 300m of 30lbs Power Pro braid, matched with Extreme Angler Customs PE 1.8 jigging rod. Accurate 665 - Jigging Machine
2006-11-21 06:37:00 My most trusted reel and weapon of choice for any heavy jigging, and some occasional bottom. Recently loaded it with 500m of 80lbs Kitaya Batline braid. Matched with Daiwa Saltiga Deep 55B, PE 6. Got the T-bar handle in M'sia and the elongated arm from S'pore and just fixed them up myself. The longer arm gives better cranking power, which is much needed as it's a HG reel. More About: Machine , Reels , Rate , Accu , Mach
Shimano Navi 8000 PG
2006-11-21 06:35:00 Matched with Tenryu JigZam PE 3-5, 5'7''. Mainly for medium jigging; below 200gms. Use it occasionally for medium casting. So far so good. The only downside of this reel is the drag knob, which is a bit too sensitive; as in the ratio of turn and drag poundage. Can be dangerous if you have panicky fingers and a speeding fish peeling lines. Tendency to overlock the drag is there. More About: Reels , Iman , Shimano
Ryobi Zauber 2000 | Berkley Series One
2006-11-21 06:30:00 Loaded with 10lbs Kumo braided. Very smooth and powerful for a tiny and reasonably priced reel. Very durable too. Use it mainly for freshwater casting for haruans and PBs. But have used it many times for saltwater outings; light bottom, apollo jig, sotong jigging, casting for todaks or dorados, etc. The new model is better as it comes with power handles. As for the rod, BUY IT!! More About: Series , Serie , Erie , Berk , Berkley

More articles from this author:2006-11-21 05:55:00 Loaded the reel with 20lbs Kumo braided. Good reel. As the chinese saying goes, 'Cheap Cheap Good Good'. Love the rod. Which is why I bought the same series in spinning soon after, but different poundage. This is 12lbs-20lbs and the spinning one is 10lbs lower.
