Ko Adang - Dec 2007
2007-12-22 03:22:00
5 weeks since my last posting...Thats 1 of the longest gap I think ever since I start this blog a year plus ago. I didn't even had time to post a anniversary message to myself couple weeks back when my blog celebrated its 1 year old birthday :-p Work has been crazy lately, working 12 hours everyday yet it's not enough. Crazily shiok!! Anyway, December was suppose to be a honeymoon month for me with Ko Adang and Myanmar all planned out. Ko Adang was a much anticipated trip (not as much as Burma Banks) as I've seen some pictures of good size trevallies every now and then. However in the past couple of weeks, the weather has been predictably BAD. Everywhere is pounded by strong wind and heavy rain, and Ko Adang was no exception. Few friends who just came back from Ko Adang right before our trip were all hit with bad weather and bad catch. Even when we were at the custom in Thailand, we saw 2 pickups with rods and stuffs and they stretched out their hands and gave us a thumb down an...
Pulau Jarak & Pulau Sembilan - 8th & 9th Nov 2007
2007-11-10 18:35:00
2 months ago, a trip to Tukun Perak was planned for 8th, 9th & 10th of November, taking advantage of the Deepavali holiday. Unfortunately we had to cancel the trip 1 week before as several confirmed participants couldn't make it and we were having problem looking for more. Just when I thought my holiday will be spent in town, 1 of the kaki called and said that his friends still wanna fish and even if it was 4 person, they would still wanna go Tukun Perak and they don't mind paying the extra. Just so happen, right after my phone call with him, Chung (boatman from Sitiawan) called and told me he just landed a 14.5kg grouper with the PE1-2 Sabel Dance I got for him. And the spot is a mini drop off somewhere between Jarak and P9 which has long been forgotten after much 'used & abused'. At another spot, he also bumped into a school of Black Tips. And after several phone calls with my friends, I confirmed with Chung to fish Jarak on 8th and P9 on 9th. Funniest thing was, in th...

Jackson Pin Tail
2007-11-03 05:14:00
Jackson Pin Tail - 9cm - 35g.Have only used this a few times when I was Pulau Sembilan 2 weeks back. Didn't yield any results. Need to work on the proper presentation. The fact that it's 35g, it's very easy to be cast. But since it's quite small, only 9cm, if whack by a tenggiri, chances of loosing the lure is quite high I guess... Very interesting interior.Pin TailHere's the official website.

Shimano Tcurve Game Series

Bought this rod more than a year ago. I think it was one of those impulse buy... :-s Have only used it once in Maldives for like an hour, pairing it with Duel. Wanted to buy an Avet Pro 30 long long time ago. But the ever emerging new models just kept on screwing my fickle fickle mind. And also bottom fishing is not really my main interest. But if I am to complete this bottom setup, I will most likely get an electric reel, Command X4. Hehehehe... Aftco Guides. Halco Roosta Popper

Roosta Popper 105/135?Here's an extract from the official website.- The Roosta Popper is at the cutting edge of Modern Popper design. Fully computer designed and prototyped, this rattling lure is both a sensational straight retrieve and blooping popper. Rear weighting gives exceptional casting ability and the unique head and body shape reduces cart wheeling and produces exceptional noise and splash.-Roosta Popper 135? SpecificationsLength: 135 mmWeight: 48 gramsSwim Depth: SurfaceHooks: No.2/0 Mustad 3X TreblesSpeed: Slow to fast retrieveApplications: Straight retrieve popping, bloopingBuoyancy: Floating- How to Fish - The Roosta is designed to be used as a straight retrieve popper and a blooper. When retrieved, the action can be changed by the level of the rod tip. Keeping the tip close to the water creates a massive bubble stream as the lure tracks through the water with a slight wiggling action. This can be particularly useful in rough surface conditions where the lure needs to b...

Ever Green Life Belt
2007-10-18 01:42:00
PFD (personal flotation device) / lifejacket / life preserver / life vest / life saver / life beltWiki - Personal flotation deviceBought this Ever Green life belt a while back. Not cheap, but it's for protecting my life so it's worth every penny. I have 2 other normal Type III lifejackets but I rarely put them on when out at sea as it's hot and bulky. They always end up as cushion for the ass. And the fact is that when there's an emergency, you won't really have the time to put anything on so it's quite redundant. Hence I decided to get this life belt mainly because it's less bulky, and you won't feel much of it as it's around your waist. And it also comes with straps which I can use for fighting belts so it's like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. And it expands either automatically upon water pressure or manually jerking the release cord. -I know of a lot of fishing friends who don have a life jacket of any sort. Is it necessary to get one? Don't they always have them on bo...

Sunvista Wreck & Pulau Sembilan
2007-10-16 10:42:00
This is my third visit to the Sunvista Wreck . Unfortunately, the results had gone from mythbustingly good to busted. :-) The continous actions and multiple bust offs on the first visit that left us all jaw-dropped were just not meant to be re-experienced. Anyhow, we made the best of the worst by amusing ourselves with mindless jokes and one of the highlight being turning Choong's (boatman) signature line into everyone's signature line. Choong has a habit of saying 'Ok Come' or 'Ok ?' after parking the boat to drift jig. And it didn't take Bruce long to pick it up and began using and abusing the phrase. In the end, everyone picked up the contagious phrase and it was used throughout the trip, even til the last evening when we were having dinner when the dishes came, Choong said 'Ok ?!'.-The journey to Sitiawan began at 4am in the morning as we didn't want to get ourselves caught in the Hari Raya traffic. Travelling in the wee hours is definitely more relaxing with the minima...

Shimano Bassterra Bought this rod quite a while for light casting & popping. Cheap cheap good good. Didn't want to spend too much as casting/popping is more of a side dish, with main dish being Jigging. Will mainly use this for light saltwater game at places like Pulau Sembilan, Pekan, etc etc. Will be pairing it with Daiwa Caldia Kix 4000. Should be a lot of fun with baby GTs and queenfishes. Golden Mean - Sabel Dance
2007-10-04 05:59:00
Was on the phone with Chong, boatman from Sitiawan, few weeks back and he mentioned to me a customer of his was using a very light and stiff jigging rod. He couldn't remember the name but he does remember the striking blue colour of the entire reel and also the reel seat. Instantly, I asked him 'Is it Golden Mean, Sabel Dance ?'. And he said 'Ya Ya Ya!!!'. And I told him I could get it for him at a good price. 2 days later, he called up and told me to get 1 for him, and bring it to him during my Raya trip. So here are some pictures and specs of the rod. If you interested, send me an email or something. :-)SABEL DANCE - GOLDEN MEAN CUSTOM SALTWATER ROD. One way or another, Golden Mean is related to Ever Green. Don't ask me how... :-p Grip end cap. Fuji DPS reel seat. SABEL DANCE. Jig Weight: 4oz (120g). PE Line: 2. Length: 6'. Fuji Hook Keeper
2007-09-27 07:53:00
Bought this Fuji hook keeper from Sabre Tackle yesterday. Been looking for this hook keeper everywhere for quite a while. Finally found it at the rod components section at Sabre. Thought they should have put it at the accessories section, although the box itself says 'Rod Components'. Strongly recommend this item especially if you do a lot of sea fishing. It lets you keep your assist hooks or squid jigs or any other hooks firmly inplace. I know a lot of ppl (including myself) always keep their hooks of any sorts at/around the guides of their rods. Not recommended. 1stly you run a risk of scratching your rings especially with used hooks which surfaces are slightly rusted and rough. It may just be a tiny scratch but imagine your lines running past that scratch when you are fighting your prized GT. Secondly, be it SIC or whatever brand, you run a risk of rusting or staining your frames over time. EHKM-B. B stands for Black i think. It also comes in red where the product code is EHK...

Shimano Butterfly Jigging System
2007-09-25 04:05:00
Shimano Butterfly Jigging System - Action, ReactionHISTORY OF DEEP JIGGING FISHINGIn the early 1990's Japanese anglers developed a revolutionary style of deep water jigging that changed jigging as we know it. These anglers were fishing depths as deep as 500 feet using the first generation of super lines coupled with fluorocarbon shock leaders and the original jig designs. Shimano saw the significance of these jigs, and created a new lure design called the Butterfly Jig. This lure, combined with the line and tackle, helped increase sensitivity to detect bites, and get successful hooksets, with the end result being an increase in their fish catching percentage. The Butterfly Jig catches more species of fish in more locations while giving you a new, exciting way to fish! - http://fish.shimano.comSince I'm taking steps to 'refurbish' my jig boxes and bags, decided not to limit myself to just IMAs and Evergreens. Introducing Shimano's Butterfly Jigging System; not something new in t...

Merchung & Pekan - 15th & 16th September 2007
2007-09-17 08:50:00
DAY 1 - Merchung - 15th September 2007Merchung is always a good place for some cheap2 good2 fun. And we did just that. As usual, we left town on Friday nite around 7:30pm and head pass Pekan down to Merchung. By midnight, we checked in to Kg Merchung Chalet, 2 rooms, 1 for 2 person. Got up the next day at 6am and after breakfast, we packed some nasi lemaks and started loading our gear onto the boat. We left the jetty around 7:30am and went to the opposite jetty to get some live prawns before heading out. Good morning Merchung!! Usual Chee Wai. Freezing Bruce.Sleeping JohnsonAs usual, we started off the day by jigging for some live baits. After filling our live well with Selars, we headed towards an ikan bilis boat to buy some ikan bilis for bottom fishing. This was when one of us was looking for some tidbits and to our horror, we realised we left all our nasi lemaks in the room. And what's worst, we ALSO left all our bread (2 loaves of Gardenia, 2 cans of mayo tuna, 10 pieces of ch...

Here are some of the catch that was captured on camera. Hehehe...you will kinda noticed most of the pictures were just 3 person; Darren, Alex & Wee Lee from Singapore. They were the most productive jiggers of the trip. What's the secret to their productiveness you wonder. Simple; they jig their ass off throughout, and cast too. A combination of hardwork, the right setups (rods, reels & jigs) made the difference for them. Pulau Jarak - 8th & 9th September 2007
2007-09-11 08:44:00
Last month was a very hectic month with 3 back to back trips; Wreck at Indon border, Merchung & Rompin. And I thought September would be a more tone down month. Unfortunately after 2 weekends at home, I just couldn't take it anymore. So on a Friday morning, I decided to go on a 2D2N trip which leaves town in the evening. So during lunch, I rushed home from office and packed my ass off. This was a trip organised by Kenny Chee of Extreme Anglers / Fook Soon. So right after work, I drove to Kenny's shop and wait for everyone to arrive before leaving town to the jetty somewhere In Sitiawan. We arrived at the jetty around 11:20pm and by midnight, we were already cruising out to Jarak. The boat is very comfortable with a lot of sleeping areas; downstairs we have a double decker, a room with a couple of mattresses, a small living room with sofa and mattresses and also TV and VCD player, all of which are air-conditioned. And outside we have 2 shower rooms, common areas, rod holders up on ...

Shout! - Jigger II VS Expedition
2007-09-06 05:07:00
Help a friend got the Shout ! Expedition Bag a week ago. So before passing it to him, took some pictures with the Shout! Jigger Bag II for some comparison. I think the name says it all; the Expedition Bag is more for an expedition (duh...) of longer duration while the Jigger Bag II would be more suitable for 1/2 days trip. One of the beauty of both the bags is the 'Just Fit System'; where you can fit in few of the other Shout! products perfectly. On top of that, the Jigger Bag II is also perfect for fitting most of Plano's hard boxes.Expedition VS Jigger Noticeably, the Expedition is bigger than the Jigger. It comes with a detachable hard top for added protection, and an additional detachable front pouch. The sides have stitched handles for lifting the bag.'Shout! Fisherman's Tool' - Right underneath the top cover when open is another pouch for storage. The interior is made up of a hard plastic case. Unfortunately, it does not have any separator. The detachable top cover. Here is...
