New England Patriots Release Rosevelt Colvin, Begin Rebuilding
2008-02-27 06:34:00
In what was a surprising move to some, the Patriots released linebacker Rosevelt Colvin on Tuesday.Rosevelt Colvin was a significant player in the Bill Belichick era because he marked the first time the Patriots signed a marquee free agent during his tenure in New England .Colvin came to New England after registering 21 sacks in his previous two seasons. He was arguably the best defensive playmaker on the market, and the Patriots needed an infusion of playmaking after a disappointing 2002 season. He started off his Patriots? career with sacks in both of his first two games. Then his Patriots? career was derailed by a devastating hip injury. It was so bad that he wondered if he?d ever walk again, never mind play football. We all knew he?d never be the same player he was before the injury. He was destined to become another free agent bust. But Colvin was anything but a bust. He fought back and became one of the key components to the 2004 Super Bowl championship team. He was an e...

2008 NFL Mock Draft: Chicago Bears
2008-02-26 07:56:00
Pick No. 14: Chicago Bears 2006 was a magical season for the Chicago Bears . They made a Cinderella run to the Super Bowl. They featured the best defense and special teams in the NFL, as well as an offense that could grind out yards and kill you deep on occasion. The Super Bowl didn?t work out the way they wanted, but the future looked bright in the windy city. Then 2007 came and the wheels fell off.Rex Grossman went from a Chicago hero in 2006 to a guy nobody wanted midway through 2007. It got so bad that he was actually benched for former Denver Bronco great Brian Griese. To be a successful quarterback in the NFL you need to do one of two things: Lead the offense effectively or just don?t get in the way.Rex Grossman spent the entire 2007 season getting in the way. That said, resigning him for one season was good for a number of reasons. 1) Vinny Testaverde is retired and no longer available.2) Drew Bledsoe is retired and no longer available.3) Brian Griese is absolutely horrify...

Struggling Boston Celtics Looking for Answers Out West
2008-02-26 05:15:00
If you read my Carolina Panther?s mock draft article, you know that I?ve been suffering from some kind of indescribable sickness. Lately, I?ve been wondering if whatever I have has infected the Boston Celtics. Since the All-Star break, the Boston Celtics have been playing lackluster basketball. I?m not all that concerned with the fact that they?re losing. They?re playing some of the best teams in the NBA, especially from an offensive perspective. No team goes through an entire season without experiencing some type of losing streak. I am, however, concerned with how they?re losing. When the Celtics were at their best this season, they seemed to feed off of Kevin Garnett ?s energy. When Garnett was injured, the young guys stepped in and supplied the intensity. Guys like Glen Davis and Leon Powe played their hearts out, leading the Celtics to a 7-2 record while Garnett was out. Then Garnett returned. Since his return, they?re 0-3, turning the ball over at an alarming rate, g...

I?ve concocted a mixture of NyQuil, liquid Tylenol Flu (extra strength, of course), and cough drops that has at least gotten me to the point where I can sit upright and type. I?m not sure if it?s curing the flu or just making me too high to realize I?m sick. Five Steps to Fix the NFL's Worst
2008-02-23 05:54:00
I'm sitting here thinking about what to write, and it occurs to me that I'm an incredibly lucky guy. Two healthy, beautiful daughters, a wife that to my knowledge hasn't decided to leave me yet, and a chair within viewing distance of a TV. All things considered, I'm a pretty lucky guy. So tonight, I've decided to give a little something back. I'm going to use my vast football knowledge to give the worst teams in the NFL a foolproof plan to get back to respectability. No need to thank me.View Article...

Enough is Enough: A Patriot Fan's Rebuttal
2008-02-18 08:30:00
For the love of God, enough is enough. It’s been five months since the Patriot s were caught videotaping the Jets’ sidelines. Five months. Yet I’m still reading articles about how the Patriots are horrible cheaters, destroying the NFL, worst organization in history, never deserved to win, worse than Bin Ladin, responsible for the out-of-control youth in America, causing the nation to go into a recession, yadda, yadda, yadda. The Patriots cheated, were caught, and were punished. End of story, right? Of course not. All of the "my franchise is holier-than-thou and would never cheat" NFL fans don't think the punishment is enough. A $750,000 fine and the docking of a first round draft pick, the harshest penalty in NFL history, isn't enough. A publicity-hungry Senator who still can’t believe Donovan McNabb threw three interceptions in the Super Bowl is actually wasting government time and money investigating what the Patriots have done over the last seven years. Wa...

If I’m wrong about the Dolphins taking Glen Dorsey with the number one overall pick, I wonder if I can file a lawsuit against them for ruining my mock draft? Filing lawsuits against NFL teams seems to be the hip thing kids are doing these days. I surely don’t want to be left out. I’m also wondering if there will be a congressional hearing if a good player drops to the Patriots. Those lousy cheaters. Videotaping other teams. Forget Bin Ladin, someone lock up Bill Belichick! 2008-02-04 21:05:00
I want to begin with a mea culpa. I was wrong. The Giants were the better team on Sunday. I tried to be as diplomatic as possible over the last two weeks, but I really believed the Patriots were a far superior team. I still believe it.But the Giants’ improbably run could not be stopped. Not by Belichick, not by Brady, not by destiny itself. That said, I’ve slipped into a sports related depression, the likes of which I haven’t seen since the 2003 ALCS. Food doesn't taste as good anymore. Beer doesn't go down as easy. Captain Morgan has been demoted to Private. It's awful. The Giants defense played the perfect game. They were fantastic. They pressured Brady like no team has this season. They were able to keep Moss contained for most of the game. It was the perfect gameplan for what the Patriots threw at them. The Giants’ offense was as terrible as we expected. They couldn't do anything all game. Couldn't run, couldn't throw. But who would have expected th...

Previous Picks: 1) Miami Dolphins: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU2) St. Louis Rams: Jake Long, OT, MichiganThe Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues We've reached the point in the Mock Draft where every team sucks equally. So equally that, as of right now, we still don?t know for sure who?s picking third. Here?s how it breaks down:The Falcons , Raiders, Chiefs, and Jets all finished 4-12. Either the Falcons or the Raiders will pick third. The Jets don?t get to play because they sucked against better competition. The Chiefs don?t get to play because they sucked less than the Raiders against common opponents. So at the NFL Combine, the Raiders and Falcons will flip a coin. The winner picks third. The loser picks fourth?unless the Raiders win. If that happens, we get ANOTHER coin flip to decide if the Chiefs or Falcons pick fourth.Coin flips are stupid, so until the NFL decides otherwise we?re going with the Falcons picking third for a very simple reason: they were the worse of the two te...

2008 NFL Draft Strategy: The St. Louis Rams
2008-01-26 07:26:00
Previous Pick: Miami Dolphins: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSUThe St. Louis Rams are now on the clock.Saying the St. Louis Rams? season was a disappointment is like saying Michael Vick was just a bad pet owner. Or Jessica Simpson is only mildly retarded. Or my Tom Brady interview was only a little funny (Shameless self-promotion RULES!).Point is, it?s a massive understatement.Scott Linehan was able to fly under the national radar only because Cam Cameron was busy trying to make history in Miami. Yes, the Rams suffered a massive amount of injuries, especially at the offensive line, but they were still talented enough to win in the pathetic NFC West. And they did win?three whole games. This is how bad the Rams were?they gave up 438 points (one more than the Miami Dolphins) and only scored 263 (four less than the Miami Dolphins). We haven?t seen futility like this in the NFL since that classic 1992 New England Patriots team that, coincidentally, almost moved to St. Louis. The Rams have a choic...

Super Patriots: Ranking the Super Bowl Teams
2008-01-25 03:29:00
I was asked today which Patriots Super Bowl team is my favorite. That's like asking me to pick which of my children is my favorite ? or which Seasonal Sam Adams brew I like the best. It's nearly impossible to choose. That said, I'm suffering from a massive case of writer's block tonight (no beer left, can't think without beer). Since I have no ideas of my own, I figured I'd give it a shot.I'm leaving the 1985 Patriots off the list for a couple of reasons:1) I can't take any team quarterbacked by Tony Eason seriously.2) I was 6-years-old.3) The Patriots weren't the best team in the AFC that season, they just caught an overconfident Miami Dolphins team in the AFC championship.4) Because of the 1985 Patriots, the Super Bowl Shuffle, Mike Ditka, and Refrigerator Perry all live on. I cannot forgive them for this. It's amazing, after suffering through a 1-15 season, a 2-14 season, coaches like Pete Carroll, Rod Rust, etc. that I'm actually discussing my favorite Patriots Super Bow...

(I understand that we're not in the off-season yet, but I can't stand the bye week...especially when the Patriots are involved)For the next couple of months, just consider me the Mel Kiper Jr. of Bleacher Report?complete with fantastic hair and an undeserved sense of self appreciation.Since the Dolphins have been on the clock since mid-October, we?ll start with them.Outside of running-back, the Dolphins are a team in need of a complete roster overhaul. They?re either old, thin, or empty at every position. The smart move would be to trade out of the number one overall pick and try to get as many first day picks as possible. If they stick with the first overall pick (which they probably will, as there might be a fan revolt in Miami if they suffered through Cam Cameron and aren?t rewarded with t...
