145 step process to make a hockey skate? Wow...I don't know what number I would have guessed, but it sure wasn't 145. Below is an informative video -- I learned a lot, laughed, cried, and will write to Bauer to give the sewing lady a raise. (If you're interested in seeing how figure skates are made, I got a neat tour of the Harlick skating boot factory last year and took photos.)

On Friday, February 15, 2008, U.S. senior ladies champion Mirai Nagasu skated at Rockefeller Center Rink in New York City for a segment on NBC's Today Show. It was a chilly 30 degrees Fahrenheit at 8 a.m. and Mirai came out a half hour before the segment was to air to warm up and do a run through of her program. It was quite a sight to see her on the ice all alone, with her pink sequined dress and matching pink hair ribbon! While I was taping her warmup, a number of people gathered to watch Mirai practice her jumps, which included double axels and triple toe loops, as well has her amazing spins. Some people knew who she was, others didn't. The funniest comment I overheard while taping -- "I don't know who she is, but she has the best posture I've ever seen in a human being." So true...
