Big Changes Coming!

I've alluded to some big changes coming down the pipeline for Big Cat Country.Monday Morning, it happens.When you check the site first thing Monday, things will be just a little bit different.We'll look more like this http://www.fishstripes.com, there will be a TON more features (Stats!  Wigets!  FanPosts!), things that will make Big Cat Country more interactive!  You'll love it, I swear.There is a slight "re-registration" process, but what it does is allow you to post on all the SB Nation blogs without having to register for each and every one.  In essence, when the Colts blog says something condescending about the Jaguars, we can quickly (but tactfully) defend ourselves!I can't wait!-Chris

Trading for Jared Allen: Myths, Facts, and Reality

It's funny how much can change in two months.  If you go back in time to the 15th of February I advocated trading for Defensive End Jared Allen.  In those days I was expecting Allen to sign his franchise tender and he'd cost the Jaguars two first round picks to go for him.  Yet I still called for it, declaring that the Jaguars were in no-mans-land at the 26th spot and with Allen we would without a doubt pick even higher next year.   It turns out that Allen might not cost two first round picks after all.  Allen is visiting with the Minnesota Vikings and Tampa Bay Buccaneers in hopes of working a trade.  The Chiefs, much to their fans dismay, are entering full on rebuilding mode, overpaying Allen just isn't a smart move for the franchise. A deeper look at the Schedule : Week 1:   AT Jacksonville Jaguars AT Tennessee Titans: Opening day starts just like last season, except it's in Tennessee's home turf.  Last year we looked horrible against the Titans but put together a solid season nonetheless.  Winning our division starts winning on the road, opening the season 1-0 and the division 1-0 is very important.  No room for excuses here, the Jaguars must come out hot. Our favorite Jaguars.com writer, Vic Ketchman, was recently on Jaguars' This Week and speculated that the best available player when the Jaguars select at 26 may be a cornerback.  He's clearly a little more optimistic than I am because I'm very much concerned that the BAP will be a running back or linebacker, two positions that are less than critical for the Jaguars in the first round. I though it might be interesting to examine where exactly the "experts" predict the top five (or so) cornerbacks will end up.  My methodology is not 100% sound because I don't really account for standard deviation other than by removing outliers, but unless my Political Analysis professor drops by, it shouldn't be a problem.  What I did, in essence, was take about thirty mock drafts, 10 of which were "experts", the other twenty chosen at random.  I removed the highest and lowest outliers and averaged the rest. With the NFL Draft JUST around the corner, it makes sense to clean up the sidebar a bit.  Now, if you look to your left you'll see the new and improved NFL Draft Headquarters. Credit where credit is due, Pride of Detroit helped me with the code. You might also have noticed a few times in the last hour where the site looked a little off kilter, that's me experimenting with the code a bit.   Anyhow, here's what we've got: NFL Draft Widget: It's got a countdown timer so that at any given second you know how much longer till we get new players to ogle.  It'll also link you to all the NFL.com content about the draft prospects, videos, etc. TV Coverage: Just in case we forget which channel to watch. Defensive Tackle Trevor Laws. The "correct" pick was Jeff Otah, according to my Value Board.  As I explain in my reasoning, the Jaguars only get Laws in the early part of the draft is if they trade back into the early second.  I like the player though and I think he'd be a damn fine addition to our line.
