Man United Fail To Set New Club Record After Defeat To Wolves

Manchester United failed to take advantage of Arsenal's slip-up at St James' Park after a 2-1 loss to Wolves . In doing that Man United have failed to set a new club record of 30 games unbeaten in the league. Rafael Da Silva returned after suffering concussion during Man United's game against Blackpool on the 25th January. Darren Fletcher was also fit to start after picking up an eye injury during United's 3-1 win over Aston Villa midweek. Rio Ferdinand was originally named in the starting line-up but was injured during the warm-up, Jonny Evans replaced him. Manchester United have stayed five points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League after beating Aston Villa 3-1 at Old Trafford. The 40-year old will spend more time with his family; his wife Annemarie suffered a stroke back in 2009. Manchester United defender Rafael Da Silva has been ruled out of the fourth round FA Cup tie this weekend after suffering from concussion. Rafael clashed heads with Blackpool's Marlon Harewood during last nights game, he had to be stretchered off and taken to the local hospital for x-rays. Fortunately the injury isn't as serious as first feared, he was quickly given the all-clear and returned to Manchester with his team mates. This evening Manchester United fought back from being 2-0 down to Blackpool to win 3-2 and go five points clear of Arsenal in the Premier League. There was no Rio Ferdinand for United after he failed to fully recover from a groin injury but Rafael Da Silva did return after serving a one-match ban. The full starting line-up was: Van Der Sar, Rafael, Smalling, Vidic, Evra, Scholes, Gibson, Fletcher, Nani, Rooney and Berbatov. Blackpool took the lead on the 15th minute after some very poor marking from Man United from a corner, former Man United player Craig Cathcart was there to head past Van Der Sar. Nemanja Vidic almost gave Blackpool a 2-0 lead but luckily for the United defender, Van Der Sar was able to get a hand on his header. Manchester United Chief Executive David Gill is set to open up contract talks with Ryan Giggs . The 37-year old made his 600th appearance for United against Tottenham at the weekend. Giggs' contract is close to running out but it looks like he may be offered a new one-year extension. After the 0-0 draw against Tottenham, manager Sir Alex Ferguson called Giggs an "incredible human being". Gill said: "I wouldn?t be surprised if he extends his contract for another season. Tomorrow night Manchester United play Stoke City in the Premier League at Old Trafford. United are looking to go three points ahead of Manchester City, who play Arsenal on Wednesday. Kiko Set To Join Sampdoria On Loan

According to Federico Macheda's agent, the striker is set to join Italian side Sampdoria on loan. Many Italian sides and Premier League side West Brom had believed to be interested in taking the 19-year old on loan, Sampdoria look to have won the race. Kiko's agent Giovanni Bia told Sky Italia: "The only thing missing is the formalities" "I hope to finish everything by tonight so the player will be available for Sunday." "That is the idea, then it will be evaluated with Manchester United and they will need to see if he stays in Italy for another year. "It is 99 per cent certain he would go straight back to Manchester United. "I think Alex Ferguson wants him back, because he considers Macheda a major European talent."

Manchester United have gone three points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League after a 2-1 win over West Brom at the Hawthorns. United brought in Tomasz Kuszczak to replace Edwin Van Der Sar, who has come down with flu. Darren Fletcher, Gabriel Obertan and Gary Neville also came into the starting line-up. Manchester United took a very early lead after Wayne Rooney scored the first goal of 2011. Three minutes in a Rooney headed the ball past Scott Carson from a cross in from Patrice Evra. West Brom immediately responded well to the goal, Jerome Thomas got ahead of Gary Neville, who was stood still at the back post but luckily for him, Thomas was unable to control the ball in from James Morrison. The home side grabbed themselves an equaliser after a cracking strike from Morrison.
