Man United boss Sir Alex Ferguson  unsurprisingly confirmed that there will be no major signings during the January transfer window. Denmark keeper Anders Lindegaard will join United from Aalesund in January, he has spent December training with the Man United squad but can't sign until the window opens. Sir Alex said: "We have no plans to bring anyone in when the window opens" The gaffer went on to talk about Federico Macheda, who has been linked with a move away to clubs such as Roma, Bolton and his former club Lazio. Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has called back two players who were out on loan at Preston North End after the sacking of his son. Darren Ferguson had been Preston's manager since January but after only winning 13 of 49 games in charge, which has left the club at the bottom of the Championship table, Ferguson was sacked yesterday. Today, Man United have recalled Ritchie de Laet and Josh King from Preston. Matty James is also on loan to Preston from United, it is believed that United are trying to find a way to bring him back as well. Birmingham score a later 89th minute equaliser but that isn't enough to stop Man United from going top of the Premier League table. Darron Gibson came in to replace Ji-Sung Park was the only change to the team who beat Sunderland 2-0 on Sunday. Luis Nani missed out after failing to recover from a hip problem. The first effort of the game fell to Birmingham's Cameron Jerome who headed a cross from Craig Gardner over the cross bar. Man United have stayed top of the Premier League table, two points clear of Man City, after a 2-0 win over Sunderland at Old Trafford. Manchester United got off to a brilliant start after Dimitar Berbatov put the home side 1-0 with only five minutes on the clock. After some great play between Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney, Berbatov finished off the move with a header past Craig Gordon. Man United could have had three or four goals within 15 minutes. During his acceptance his acceptance speech, after being awarded Bulgaria's footballer of the year for the seventh time, Berbatov said: "I fought to have a chance to play for United and now I can only go down if I leave. Why I should do this? It would be better to retire." The Bulgarian has played 18 games this season for United, scoring 12 goals. The game got off to a scrappy start but also had a feisty edge with the away side conceding quite a few free kicks in the opening 15 minutes. The nominations for Tuttosport?s Golden Boy award for best young player (up to the age of 21) have been released. Manchester United ?s Rafael da Silva, Federico Macheda and Tiago Bebe have all been nominated. The Italian sport newspaper honour the brightest talent in Europe each year. In recent years both Wayne Rooney (2004) and Anderson (2008) have won this award. After a big build up the Manchester derby was actually a rather boring affair. Sir Alex Ferguson had indicated that he had ?no idea? who he would be able to play tonight; it was surprisingly a strong side. The starting XI was- Edwin Van Der Sar, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra, Rafael da Silva, Nemanja Vidic, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Ji-Sung Park, Darren Fletcher, Luis Nani and Dimitar Berbatov. Considering all the injuries and illnesses that Man United have been suffering with, it was a good performance from the team. There wasn?t much of a difference between the two sides during the first half, it was fairly even but United dominated the second and will be disappointed that they didn?t score. There weren?t enough chances created and when they did, the finishing wasn't upto scratch. Both Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic both had impressive games, Nani didn?t but he didn?t look fit.
