Injury And Illness Struck Man United Take On Man City Tonight

This evening there is a very important derby match between Manchester City and Manchester United at the City of Manchester Stadium. City have lost four out of five of their last games in all competitions, United have won five out of their last five. Form won?t matter; games between the two teams are unpredictable and nerve-racking. Sir Alex Ferguson celebrated his 24th anniversary as Manchester United manager at the weekend. Manchester City have had 14 permanent managers at Man City since Sir Alex was appointed on the 6th November 1986. None of them have been as successful with the City failing to win a trophy in 34 years. The clubs played each other four times last season, twice in the league and twice in the League Cup semi-finals. Owen Hargreaves was a surprise inclusion in yesterday?s starting line-up against Wolves. The midfielder hadn?t started a first team game for over two years after a long battle with tendonitis in both knees. Hargreaves? last first team appearance had been at the end of last season had been as an 89th minute substitute against Sunderland in early May. Hargreaves was one of England?s best players during the 2006 World Cup; at that point he was still playing for German side Bayern Munich. In the 2006?07 season, Hargreaves broke his leg, which kept him out of most of the season. Hargreaves played five games for Bayern, all in the Champions League; he also made five appearances for England. Tonight Sir Alex Ferguson will be celebrating his 24 years as Manchester United manager after United picked up all three points after beating Wolves 2-1 at Old Trafford. Both Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov were missing after they both picked up the same virus that has kept Anderson, Darron Gibson, Federico Macheda and Jonny Evans out. United were also without Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Michael Owen, Luis Nani and Antonio Valencia. The surprising name on the team sheet was Owen Hargreaves, who started his first match for over two years. This afternoon Manchester United will play Wolves at Old Trafford, in the Premier League. Manchester United striker Michael Owen has suffered another setback after it's been revealed that he will be out for another 2-3 weeks. Owen was expected to return from injury against Wolves last night but tore his hamstring  in training prior to the game. Owen has been quoted as saying: "I had a tight groin quite a while ago and then I trained for a week in preparing for last night's game, but had a setback in training with a different muscle injury, so unfortunately that ruled me out for last night and is going to rule me out for a few weeks as well." Owen has played seven times for United this season, scoring three goals, two in the League Cup against Scunthorpe, which Man United won 5-2. The other came in the League, in the 2-2 away to Bolton. Sir Alex Ferguson made 11 changes to the side with Ben Amos starting in goal, and Bebe made his first start for the club. Federico Macheda gave an interview to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, during the interview he apparently branded team-mate Wayne Rooney as ?working class and vulgar?. Macheda is quoted as saying: ?Rooney is a really great person, he always gives me advice, but he?s a bit working class and vulgar.? Hargreaves Back In Training

In an exclusive interview with MUTV this morning, Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed that long term absentee Owen Hargreaves has returned to training. Hargreaves joined Man United from Bayern Munich back in 2007, since joining he has only managed 38 appearances. 34 of those appearances were made in the 2007/2008 season. The last time Hargreaves started a game for the first team was back in September 2008 in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Since then has has played some minutes for the reserves and made an 89th minute substitute appearance against Sunderland on the 2nd May 2010. Hargreaves has been suffering from tendinitis in both knees, having multiple operations. After an early scare, Manchester United came from 1-0 down to beat Scunthorpe United 5-2 at Glanford Park. Sir Alex Ferguson was absent after flying out to Spain to watch Champions League opponents Valencia play Atletico Madrid. United made 11 changes to the team who beat Liverpool- Tomasz Kuszczak, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Rafael Da Silva, Ji-Sung Park, Anderson, Darron Gibson, Javier ?Chicharito? Hernandez, Michael Owen and Federico Macheda all came in. Scunthorpe got off to the better start with five efforts in the first 15 minutes and deservedly took the lead in the 19th minute.
