Views on tonights match

Firstly i will start with my view, we are still waiting to see if Rio Ferdinand will be fit to play, if not Neville and Silvestre are standing by. After the performance on sunday i am a little bit worried about our defence because no offence to Boro, Roma are a lot better than them and if Boro could cut open our defence then Roma can.Roma are still without their captain Totti, which is a bonus for us but they still have a good team and the tie isnt over yet.So the defence isnt quite so strong but when you say the names:- Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo, Anderson, Hargreaves, Carrick, Nani, Giggs, Park, i can only think of one word- GOALS.Im not expecting another 7-1 thrashing of Roma which happened at this time last season but i am expecting a good win, maybe 3-1 or even 2-1.Manchester UnitedFerguson:On Ronaldo getting kicked around: Ronaldo deals with it in the proper way - by getting up and asking for the ball again,"That's the correct way to handle to whole thing - just go and play. Tomorrow is the second leg of the Champion's League quarter finals for United . Last tuesday United beat Roma out in Rome 2-0 but we did loose Vidic for 2-3 weeks with an injury.Before the match we have had some good injury news- Rio Ferdinand is going to have a fitness test before the match and he has a good chance of playing.If we keep a clean sheet tomorrow then we are definetly through, we can also afford to loose 1-0 but we dont want to loose, we Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez, Giggs and Nani have plenty of goals in them.Manchester United Squad: Van der Sar, Neville, Brown, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Evra, 0'Shea, Ronaldo, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves, Carrick, Giggs, Park, Rooney, Tevez, Kuszczak, Pique.Injuries: We are still without Vidic, Saha and Fletcher. Middlesbrough v Manchester United Review

Yesterday started off as an awful day for me and it the United match with Middlesbrough really didnt help my mood, if you dont know and i cant believe that you wouldn't know- Manchester United were held to a draw at the Riverside.The first 15 minutes were fantastic by United, we really looked like we could roll Middlesbrough over. Cristiano Ronaldo (what a surprise) got the first goal in the 10th minute, it was also his 37th goal of the season.After the goal Middlesbrough changed their formation to a 4-4-2 which really gave us some problems. Middlesbrough came back into the game and looked the more likely to score, and in the 35th minute that was exactly what they did with Alves' first goal for Boro.At that point Boro were coming straight at us and for the first time in the season our defence didnt look solid. Half time couldnt come sooner.I was optimistic that Fergie could sort them out and we could come out for the second half and get a few goals, but that wasnt going to happen...

Last week United defender Rio Ferdinand captained England, this week it has been revealed that Ferdinand is close to signing a new contract with United. This contract is thought to be a deal that will keep the defender at the club for the rest of his football career.Ferdinand has been an important part of United?s defence. Defender Vidic was substituted in the first half of the Champion's League match on tuesday night after injuring his knee. Before the Champion?s League match against United tonight, they had only lost one match at home all season, which was against Inter Milan.This was the fifth time United and Roma have met in around a year. This time last season Roma won the match 2-1, but United thrashed Roma 7-1 at Old Trafford.Earlier in this seasons group stages of the Champion?s League, United and Roma faced each other, the first match was at Old Trafford which United won 1-0 with a Rooney goal. Before the ManUtd/Villa match, Arsenal beat Bolton 3-2 after coming back from 2-0 down and with 10 men for most of the match.United beat Villa 4-0 but it could have been a load more than that. All of the United players played extremly well, Ronaldo was outstanding.Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney (2) all scored for United, Rooney could have/ should have had his hatrick. Ronaldo had a hatrick of assists and Tevez had another busy match. Carrick had a great game and our defence stood strong.Aston Villa started off well but once United scored Villa never looked like scoring but fair play to them, they kept on coming back at us but Kuszczak only had one save to make, which was a great one. Apparently newspapers in Portugal are claiming that Portugese club Benfica are lining up United's assistant manager Carlos Queiroz to be their next manager.Diario de Noticias have said that a deal has been done and just needs to be sealed whilst A Bola have said that there have been informal talks between United and Benfica.Benfica parted company with their Spanish coach Jose Antonio Camacho on 9th March. There were around 32 international matches last night and here is a round up of how the Manchester United players did:Wayne Rooney , Wes Brown , Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves all started for England but they all had different matches. Rooney only played the first half as the main striker but he was given the same role as Fernando Torres is given at Liverpool and that doesnt suit him, i honestly dont think that Rooney can play upfront on his own. Brown had a night to forget, at one point it looked like David Beckham was playing at right back and Brown was playing at the right midfield. Ferdinand had a good, strong match but at the last 15/20 minutes it looked like he was carrying an injury. In the knock out round of the Champion's League United played Lyon . In the first half of the first leg one of the Lyon fans aimed a bid green laser at Ronaldo to try and put him off.This afternoon Lyon have been fined 3,200 euros, i think that is around 2000 pounds which is not alot at all considering the size of the club.The fine was imposed for "incidents of an unsporting nature," UEFA said in a statement.I dont think that was enough money to fine the club, what do you think?Man United Devils is a blog which is updated everyday.
