Bebe Could Make His Debut Against Scunthorpe
2010-09-21 13:38:00 Manchester United start off their campaign to retain the Carling Cup tomorrow when they visit Championship side Scunthorpe United. New signing Bebe was left out of the reserve team last night, who beat Bury 5-1. This has resulted in rumours that he could be named in the squad to face Scunthorpe. Since joining United in the summer, Bebe has played for the reserves and Portugal U21?s but is yet to make his debut for the first team. After signing for just over £7million, Bebe has received negative press, especially from the Daily Mail after his performance for Portugal and the reserves. His performance for the reserves wasn?t that bad and it was a poor performance by the whole team. More About: Make
Berbatov Takes The Plaudits As United Take All Three Points
2010-09-19 18:19:00 It looked like Man United were going to throw away a lead for the third time this season but luckily for United, Dimitar Berbatov had other ideas. Berbatov hasn't had the easiest of times since joining Man United from Tottenham back in the summer of 2008. Today he has become the first United player to score three against Liverpool in 64 years, which in turn has won over many fans. Sir Alex Ferguson brought Berbatov back into the starting line-up after missing out midweek against Rangers, his faith in the striker now looks like it could be paying off. Berbatov headed United in front during the first half from a Ryan Giggs corner. Liverpool striker Fernando Torres will take the blame after allowing Berbatov a free header. After the break Man United doubled their lead just before the hour mark with a sublime goal by Berbatov. From Luis Nani?s ball in, the striker first controlled the ball with his knee, with his back to goal his second touch was an overhead kick, which flew... More About: Points , Premier league

Valencia To Have Surgery In The Morning
2010-09-15 01:27:00 Sir Alex Ferguson fears that Antonio Valencia ?s season could be over after suffering a possible break and dislocation against Rangers on Tuesday night. The winger suffered the injury midway through the second half after a fair challenge by Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot. Unfortunately his studs got caught in the turf and the Ecuadorian stayed on the ground in agony. It was immediately obvious to the Rangers players that it was serious, they called for medics and a stretcher straight away. Valencia was stretched off the field with an oxygen mask and taken straight to hospital. He will now have an operation on his left ankle sometime this morning. After the 0-0 draw, the Man United manager said: ?It looks like a dislocation and a fracture and will keep him out for a long time. He seemed to dig his toe into the turf, and as soon as we saw the Rangers player waving we knew it was a bad one, and it?s turned into a bad one.? More About: Surgery , Morning
Frustrating Performance Overshadowed By Injury To Valencia
2010-09-15 00:02:00 A disappointing draw with Scottish Champions Rangers has been overshadowed by an awful injury picked up by Antonio Valencia . Sir Alex Ferguson has said that it looks like Valencia has suffered both a dislocation and a fracture. Sir Alex made 10 changes to the team who started against Everton at the weekend. Tomasz Kuszczak, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Smalling, Fabio da Silva, Ji-Sung Park, Darron Gibson, Antonio Valencia, Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney were all brought in. Darren Fletcher was the only player to keep his place. The visiting were happy to continue with the tactics they used which got them to the 2008 Uefa Cup final- ?parking the bus? in front of the goal. With a huge Premier League game against Liverpool at the weekend, the team selection was a gamble but the players should have had enough to score against an average side. There were very little chances for either side throughout the game, the first of which fell in the 11th minute to Hernandez, whose hea... More About: Champions League , Performance , Injury
Manchester United v Rangers Preview
2010-09-14 09:00:00 Tonight Manchester United will kick-off their UEFA Champions League campaign against Scottish champions Rangers at Old Trafford. Man United and Rangers met back in the 2003 group stage of the Champions League, United won 1-0 at Ibrox and 3-0 at Old Trafford. After a very disappointing end to the Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday, Sir Alex Ferguson will want the players to respond positively. Rangers on the other hand beat Hamilton Academical FC 2-1, scoring in the 90th minute. The Scottish side crashed out of last season?s Champions League group stage after only managing to pick up two points, both of which came on their travels. They drew against VfB Stuttgart and FC Unirea Urziceni. Man United made it to the quarter-finals where they were knocked out on the away goals by Bayern Munich. The first leg at the Allianz Arena finished 2-1 to Bayern, the second leg at Old Trafford finished 3-2 to Man United. After being left out at the weekend, striker Wayne Rooney is e... Late Comeback Stuns Man United
2010-09-11 17:54:00 With only minutes remaining during the game against Everton earlier on today, it looked like Man United would walk away with all three points after they were leading 3-1. After two late injury time goals, both teams left Goodison Park with a point. Rooney made the headlines ahead of the game with his off field exploits; Rooney did not travel because Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to protect him from abuse from the Everton fans. The Toffees got off to the better start, during that period Mikel Arteta saw his strike hit the bar. United gradually got themselves back into the game, Tim Howard had to make two brilliant saves. The first came after a well-worked freekick, which ended in Howard having to save Scholes? strike with his foot. Not long after he denied Ryan Giggs a goal, the follow up shot by Darren Fletcher was blocked. With only six minutes remaining of the first half, Everton took the lead after a really bad error from Patrice Evra. The defender attempted to clear the ball, b... More About: Premier league
Everton v Manchester United Preview

Everton are currently sitting in the relegation zone with only one point to their name, which they picked up against Wolves. Man United are in third, level on points with Arsenal and two behind Chelsea. Arsenal play Bolton at the Emirates and Chelsea play West Ham at Upton Park in the 3 o?clock kick-offs. The main talking point ahead of the game is Wayne Rooney. The striker has made headlines all week after allegations about his private life. If he plays, Rooney will suffer a tirade of abuse from the home fans, but he has reportedly told the manager that he can handle it. Rio Ferdinand could make his comeback since picking up a knee injury during England?s first training session in South Africa before to the World Cup. Antonio Valencia and Javier ?Chicharito? Charity Shield Victory Sets United Up to Reclaim Premiership Trophy
2010-08-11 17:24:00 Manchester United finished the 2009/10 season in 2nd place, just one point behind league winners Chelsea. Sir Alex Ferguson?s side has had a brief period to regroup after the 2010 World Cup and they will be looking to bounce back strongly this season. By defeating Chelsea 3-1 in the Community Shield match at Wembley on Sunday whilst wearing the new Man Utd home shirt, this will have given the squad a huge boost going into the start of the English Premier League season. Over the last two seasons, Man Utd have not spent as much money as they would have in past seasons. This is down to the huge debts the club have and it might take years before they can make any major signings again. The fact that Cristiano Ronaldo left the club for a world record fee of £80m and Man Utd did not spend any of this, gives weight to their financial troubles. The club appear to be bringing in younger players to wear the 2010-11 Nike Man Utd shirt, including the capture of Chicharito (Javier Hernandez... More About: Victory , Premiership , Charity , Sets

No More Signings Likely, Is The Squad Strong Enough?
More articles from this author:2010-07-20 14:22:00 After Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said yesterday that he is ?comfortable? with the squad he has, thoughts have turned to whether or not the squad is strong enough to compete for trophies. "I cannot speak about other clubs. We are comfortable with the squad we have got," Sir Alex said. "We bought players at the right time of the season and we are happy with what we have." This summer United have signed two players- defender Chris Smalling from Fulham and striker Javier Hernandez from Club Deportivo Guadalajara (Chivas). As usual Man United has been linked with many top name players, but with the amount of debt the club is in, so signing any of those players has looked unrealistic. Those two additions to the squad are unlikely to step straight into the first team, so is the squad good enough to do better than last season?
