Man United Start Pre-Season With Win Over Celtic
2010-07-17 04:47:00
Man United kicked off pre-season with a 3-1 victory over Celtic at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. Man of the match Dimitar Berbatov finished the game with one goal and two assists to his name. United took the lead during the first half after great goal by Dimitar Berbatov. That was cancelled out after Celtic were awarded a penalty after a foul in the area from new signing Chris Smalling, the penalty was coolly hit past Edwin Van Der Sar by Georgios Samaras. United went on to get a second with just over 10 minutes remaining, after Berbatov squared the ball to Danny Welbeck, who stuck the ball past Celtic keeper Lukasz Zaluska.. With four minutes remaining, Berbatov fed the ball to Tom Cleverley, his strike at goal was deflected in off Andreas Hinkel. The first half was fairly easy for United, they went into halftime with a slender but deserved 1-0 lead. Samaras was brought on for the Scottish side for the second half and he made a big difference to the game. Celtic became more t...

Man United Unveil New Home Kit
2010-07-15 12:35:00
Manchester United   has officially unveiled the new home strip for the next season. Ryan Giggs, Gabriel Obertan, Wes Brown, John O?Shea and Dimitar Berbatov all displayed the new kit, in the press conference out in Chicago. Manchester United fans have to decide whether or not they are going to buy the shirt. Some believe that hitting the Glazers in their pockets (by not buying tickets or merchandise) will eventually force them to sell, others believe that buying the new shirt or tickets will not make any difference. A MUST spokesman has recently said: ?From reading a lot of the supporters? forums, it is very apparent that many United supporters now see the new Aon shirt as a symbol of the Glazer family?s ownership rather than a symbol of the Manchester United we historically know and love. ?It?s important that all American Reds understand the necessity to remove the Glazers from our club to improve our future chances of success and survival. ?It?s now clear the huge effe...

Hargreaves To Miss Start Of Season
2010-07-08 20:47:00
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has yet another injury setback, which today has been confirmed by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. United were hoping that the 29-year old could join the squad for the summer tour, that now won?t happen and instead he will be receiving more treatment on his persistent knee problems. Hargreaves only managed to make one substitute appearance for the first team last season, after coming through 45 minutes for the reserves. Sir Alex told MUTV: "The bad news is that Owen Hargreaves is back in America seeing a specialist. "He will not be ready for the start of the season. I do not know when he will be back." I'm gutted for Hargreaves, he is a descent player who United have missed at some points during last season but is it now time to say enough is enough. Bring in a new player, who can do the same job as Hargreaves but is not constantly out injured.

Man United Coach Would Welcome Back Striker
2010-07-03 21:54:00
Former Man United striker Diego Forlan has so far been impressive in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, after a few quotes from a United coach, he is now being linked with a move back to Old Trafford. Forlan has so far has netted three goals in five matches for Uruguay, helping them to the semi-finals of the World Cup. The 31-year old was at Manchester United for two years (2002-2004) and it?s fair to say that during that period, he was a flop. During those two years, he only scored 10 league goals for United. He left United for Villarreal, staying there until 2007 when he signed for Atletico Madrid, who he still currently plays for. He has now managed to re-ignite his form and career. Meulensteen told Voetbal International: ?Diego was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But we had some individual training with Diego, for months we worked hard. ?I told him, ?what you learn here, you will take with you?. You are a player who adds something to every squad. ?He has developed fantastica...

All Man United Players Now Out Of The World Cup
2010-06-28 01:45:00
After todays World Cup results there are no longer any Man United players left in the competition. England were knocked out after being beaten 4-1 by Germany, so Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick will be going on their holidays. Man United?s new signing Javier ?Chicarito? Hernandez was involved in Mexico?s 3-1 loss to Argentina, scoring their only goal. It may have been a miserable day for both England and Mexico but there have been a few positives. We saw glimpses of we?ll be seeing next season with Hernandez. If he can settle in quickly and get used to the English game then there is no reason why he can?t play a big part next season. Also, all Man United players involved in the World Cup will now be able to take a break and get some much needed rest. They should also be back for pre-season and the start of the new season. There was a possibility that if any United player was involved further on in the competition, they may have missed the start of the new season. Whilst th...

Ronaldo Return Not Likely
2010-06-21 22:22:00
Former Man United winger Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a move back to Old Trafford, despite only leaving last summer. Ronaldo has admitted that he does miss Manchester United but he is not likely to return. He?s bound to miss the club, he was there for six years but he?s now a Real Madrid player. "Yes, of course I miss Manchester," he said in the Daily Mirror. He was asked if there was a possibility of him returning, his reply was: "No, I don't think I'll be going back." I never really expected him to return, by the time he leaves Real Madrid, he won?t be at his best. We?re talking years away, but will United really want a play who isn?t at the top of his game? Ronaldo has also been quick to defend his former teammate Wayne Rooney . After England?s 0-0 draw against Algeria last Friday, Rooney has been blamed by many. Quite rightly Ronaldo has pointed out that it wasn?t only Rooney?s fault. "Wayne Rooney tried very hard, he's always like that, but he didn't play a...

United Hopeful Over Ferdinand And League Fixtures Released
2010-06-17 18:09:00
England captain and Man United defender Rio Ferdinand picked up an injury during training only days before the start of the World Cup. After having a scan it was confirmed that Ferdinand had suffered from damaged knee ligaments, and his tournament was over before the finals even started. It is being reported that Ferdinand is making good progress with the injury and could be fully fit for the start of the new season. This news has coincided with the 2010/2011 Premier League fixtures being released. Ferdinand had a terrible time with injuries last season and as a result he only made 21 appearances for United last season. Hopeful ly he will be fit for the start of the season and can have a successful season without any injuries. Onto the fixures- United will start the new Premier League season with the visit of newly promoted Newcastle United at Old Trafford. United have recently faced Newcastle on the opening day of the season, back in 2008 United played the Geordies at Old Tr...

Man United Really After Michael Ballack?
2010-06-13 22:31:00
This week Chelsea released midfielder Michael Ballack after both club and player were unable to reach an agreement over his contract. Rumours today suggest that Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in signing the injured German captain. For me this story is a non starter, the only reason I can see for United being linked to him is because of the amount of debt the club is in. If there were no financial difficulties, would United be linked with a move for him? No! I don?t want to see him at Manchester United, I don?t like him and that is putting it nicely. Sir Alex Ferguson holds a grudge as we all know, would he really sign a player who rejected Manchester United for only a few years ago? Ballack is 33 years-old, his legs have gone and he is no longer at his best. Would signing him improve the team and be a move forward? No it wouldn't. He would add some experience but there are already experienced players in the Man United squad. For me this story is just as ...
Referee Who Booked Rooney Talks To The Press
2010-06-10 02:25:00
Quite a bit has been made about the yellow card, which Wayne Rooney received in a friendly training game against the Platinum Stars. He received the yellow for dissent, after apparently swearing at the referee. Rooney received eight yellow cards during the 2009/10 season, whilst playing for both Manchester United and England . After receiving a yellow in a friendly ahead of the World Cup, his temperament is being questioned again. To be fair, he does have a track record of losing his temper and getting sent off but making such a big deal about it just before the World Cup won?t help. Now everyone will be watching what Rooney does/says and the referee?s will have it in the back of their minds again. Rooney?s obviously worked hard on trying to control his temper but what?s wound me up is the way the referee has handled himself after the game. There is no need for him to come out to the press. You don?t normally see referees come out and say why they showed a player a yellow ca...

Fans Fear For United As Owners Debt Hit £1.1bn
2010-06-07 22:36:00
According to figures released today, the Glazer family?s debts have hit a massive £1.1 billion. Tomorrow night a BBC Panaroma investigation will be aired and will reveal exactly how much debt the Glazer family are in. The BBC has been investigating the finances along with investment analyst Andy Green and the Guardian. The amount of debt the Glazer family?s in is astonishing. To sum up the figures as basically as I can- the Glazers have £2.344bn in assets but they £1.175 worth of debt, which leaves net assets of £1.169bn. Not only are United in over £700 million in debt but their other businesses are also struggling financially. Their First Allied shopping mall business has £388 million worth of debt on mortgages and is barely making any profit. NFL football team the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have recently had their worst season in 20 years and they owe over £66 million. There are some United fans that say- ?who cares? As long as the club are winning trophies, we?ll be fine?. T...

England Relying On Wayne Rooney
2010-06-03 21:09:00
With the World Cup only days away England go into the competition as one of the World Cup favourites, if we are to succeed Wayne Rooney and the rest of the squad will have to be on top form. Not only has Rooney been vital for Man United but he also plays a massive role for England. A lot of pressure will be on his shoulders this summer! Man United legend Roy Keane believes, along with most of the nation, that if England are to lift the cup then Rooney will be the main man who makes that happen. "A lot will depend on Wayne Rooney. He's had a long, hard season but if he's had a rest and can produce his top form then England have a chance." England expects Rooney to perform; one pub has even asked 100 of it?s bar staff to change their names to Wayne Rooney. "We have over 100 Wayne Rooneys working throughout the country for the whole of the World Cup and I'm glad to say that we have 10 Fabio Capellos keeping them in control,? Clover Taverns? managing director Andy Wilkinson sa...
Joe Coles Future Still In Doubt
2010-06-03 13:41:00
There were a rumours going around yesterday suggesting that Chelsea?s Joe Cole had signed a 3-year contract with Arsenal, these rumours were not true. Cole is out of contract at Chelsea, which would make him a free agent. He has obviously been linked with some top clubs, including Manchester United. He would be a great signing, not only is he free, he?s got the skill, but he has also got experience playing in the Premier League. He won?t need time to get used to the style of the Premier League. It really depends on what Cole wants, there are ?sources? which have said that he would like to join United, if that falls through then he would join Tottenham Hotspur. He?s got a young baby, would he want to move up to Manchester or stay down in London? Spurs manager Harry Redknapp has claimed that he believes that Cole has already signed for another club. It is thought that Cole?s agent was in talks with United over the weekend. Cole is currently out in South Africa with the Englan...

Rooney And Ferdinand Play For England As Own Goal Steals The Show
2010-05-30 16:41:00
Own goal played a massive part for Man United last season; it also played a big part in England 's final friendly game ahead of the World Cup against Japan. Both Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney started for England with Michael Carrick playing no part in the game. Japan took an early lead through Marcus Tulio Tanaka after some poor defending by England from a corner. England?s first descent chance came after Rooney found himself in some space in the Japanese half. He fed the ball to Tottenham's Aaron Lennon down the left, who should have done better. Rooney had a very frustrating, sloppy first half, like most of the England team. Saying that he was trying to get England back into the game. Ferdinand didn't have a bad game but he did have a bit of scare 19 minutes in. After a nudge, he miss kicked the ball but fortunately for the away side, the shot from the miss kick was well over the bar. He was also involved in one of England's better chances in the first half after his brilli...

Man United Not For Sale And Gill Underestimates The Fans
2010-05-28 18:04:00
Today the Manchester United released a short statement, which has reiterated that the club is not for sale. Not only that but United Chief Executive David Gill has said that he believes the Green and Gold army is only a ?minority? who will ?go away?. The board statement read: "The board noted recent press speculation regarding a possible bid for Manchester United. The owners remain fully committed to their long-term ownership of the club. Manchester United is not for sale and the owners will not entertain any offers." Recent press speculation? This speculation has been going on for months and the board will have known that. As for the Glazers not even entertaining any offers then that?s rubbish, everyone has their price. This isn?t actually news; they?ve said it before and they will probably say it again. If the club is sold, there wouldn?t be a quick fix but hopefully the new owners (whether it?s the Red Knights or not) wouldn?t bleed the club dry by taking millions of pounds...

Reds On Duty For Their Countries
2010-05-25 00:14:00
Three Man United players were involved in England?s unconvincing 3-1 win over Mexico at Wembley this evening. Rio Ferdinand led out England as skipper but it didn't get off to the best of starts. Defensively England looked disorganised and shaky, especially during the first 10/15 minutes. Ferdinand was taken off at halftime, replaced by Liverpool?s Jamie Carragher. Michael Carrick had been poor for Man United during the 09/10 got off to a poor start at Wembley; he couldn?t take control of the game and was substituted in the 62nd minute. It wouldn?t be a surprise if he isn?t named in the 23 man squad, who will travel to South Africa for the World Cup. Surprisingly Wayne Rooney played the full 90 minutes, which was a risk considering it is a friendly and the criticism that the Wembley Turf has had over recent weeks. Rooney didn?t have a stand out game but he did have one or two good chances at goal. We didn?t really see much from United?s potential new signing (subject to a wo...

Foster Takes A Swipe At Man United Fans
2010-05-22 01:10:00
Every Manchester United fan should know what the Green and Gold campaign is about by now, if you don?t where have you been? Ben Foster has only just joined Birmingham City from Man United but he has already had his say on this campaign. He believes that it could affect the players on the pitch. He has also taken what could be considered as a parting swipe aimed at the United fans. ?There's maybe too much made of it by the supporters. They are obviously passionate about Manchester United, but sometimes they need to focus on supporting the club a bit more than getting carried away with the technicalities of who's in charge. ?Personally, I think the Glazers have always put money in to Manchester United to buy players when needed. Having said that, I don't think the manager needs to buy too many players there anyway. They have a lot of good youngsters coming through the ranks.? ?However, it's a bit of a distraction when the fans are chanting at every game.? The Green and Gold...

Ben Foster Joins Birmingham City
2010-05-19 14:19:00
It has been announced today that goalkeeper Ben Foster has left Manchester United. He has joined Premier League side Birmingham City for an undisclosed fee on a three-year deal. Foster only managed to make 13 appearances for United during the 2009/10 season. He did play in some big games such as United?s 2-1 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford, the 4-3 win over Manchester City at Old Trafford and both Champions League matches against Besiktas. Unfortunately for Foster he did have a couple of shaky moments, he lacked confidence and was unable to take advantage of Edwin Van Der Sar?s absence. Instead it was Tomasz Kuszczak who became United?s number two keeper, pushing Foster down to number three in the pecking order. Understandably Foster wanted to play regular first team football and has now moved to St Andrew?s. Sir Alex Ferguson has said during a press conference that young keeper Ben Amos will not be going out on loan like first planned; instead he will become United?s third c...

Anderson Out, Angel Di Maria In?
2010-05-18 23:47:00
If Manchester United want winger Angel di Maria then it rumours have it that it will be United midfielder Anderson who may have to pay the price. The Argentine International has a price tag rumoured to be around the £38 million mark, which United are unlikely to pay. But a compromise could be made, which would see Man United midfielder Anderson plus £10 million be exchanged for the winger. The 22 year-old who is currently plying his trade with Portuguese side Benfica has also been linked with other clubs such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City. Di Maria could be a fantastic edition to the squad; he?s an exciting prospect who could flourish at Man United. He?s got bags of talent and a lot of skill, well worth watching on youtube if you have a spare few minutes. Anderson?s had a mixed season for United, there have been a few descent performances but he did disappear off to Brazil, he returned and unfortunately for him, his season ended early after a rupturing a cruciat...
Man United Transfer Rumours Into Overdrive
2010-05-17 02:16:00
With the football season over for all Premier League clubs, thoughts have turned to which players arrive and leave. As usual, Man United have been linked with a move for many players, most of which will never happen. It?s believed that Man United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Everton?s central defender and midfielder Phil Jagielka. Arsenal may bid for him but at 28-years old, Sir Alex Ferguson is unlikely to go for the defender. We already know that 20-year old Chris Smalling will be joining us in the summer from Fulham; will Sir Alex go for another centre-back? I don?t think so. The News Of The World think that United believe they have found the perfect replacement for Edwin Van Der Sar- Marseille keeper Steve Mandanda. The 25-year old has said: "Naturally I should be staying at Marseille next season but you never know," he told a press conference. "I've not had any contact with any club but all I know my dream is to play in the Premier League." It?s not the firs...

Rooney Takes It Out On His Teammates
2010-05-15 03:30:00
It?s fair to say that Wayne Rooney has been known to have a fiery temper on the football pitch but last season he has shown that he?s matured. Rooney has revealed how he?s managed to keep control of his temper on the field. Instead of taking out his frustration on referees he takes it out on his teammates during the week in training. That was one of the main area?s which Rooney had to improve on and he?s done it. "A few years ago, I was still a very young lad playing for my country and in the Premier League.? Rooney said. "You are excited and emotional when you make decisions, but now I have matured, on and off the pitch. "With age, it has helped me and now I probably take my anger out during training the week before the game." Man United have been very reliant on Rooney throughout the 2009/10 season and it wouldn?t have helped if he had got himself sent off during a game. Luckily for United and Rooney, these new tactics seem to be working. Rooney will now be travelling w...
Berbatov Staying But Retiring From International Football
2010-05-14 02:17:00
Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov yesterday retired from International football, he has also stated that he will be staying at Manchester United. Since joining United in September 2008, it?s fair to say that the Bulgarian hasn?t been in the best of form, he?s been frustrating and is a striker lacking confidence. Berbatov has been the captain of Bulgaria for the past three years, not only has he had criticism from United fans but he has also been widely criticised by the Bulgarian press. "I am withdrawing from the Bulgarian national team, it was a difficult decision but I made it," Berba has been quoted as saying. "Sometimes you have to make the difficult ones. I though about it enough, but everything has a beginning and an end and that is today." Not only has the 29 year-old announced that he?s retiring from International football but he has tried to put an end to rumours linking him with a move away from Old Trafford. Berbatov currently has two years left on his contra...

Man United After Real Madrid Forward?
2010-05-12 01:13:00
Karim Benzema was one of Man United ?s top transfer targets last summer but he left Lyon for Real Madrid after United wouldn?t be held to ransom over his pricetag. It was probably more of a case that United didn?t actually have that amount of money to spend, even after the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo for £80 million. With the summer transfer window opening soon, Benzema has been linked again with a move to Old Trafford, after a disappointing first season at the Bernabeu. Benzema joined the Spanish side initially for ?35 million rising to ?41 million. The French forward has only made 32 appearances, scoring nine goals. Real Madrid are thought to be looking to sell him for ?30 million, which could prove to be a problem. The second stumbling block could be his wages, it?s believed that he would want between £150,000-£200,000-a-week. That?s not going to happen! Over recent weeks Benzema has been asked if he rejects joining Real, instead of Manchester United. He gave a very blunt rep...
Man United Players Named In Provisional World Cup Squads
2010-05-12 00:40:00
Ahead of this summers World Cup ; the provisional 30-man squads have been announced, with England manager Fabio Capello naming three Man United players. Rio Ferdinand (England captain), Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick were all named. There had been rumours that Owen Hargreaves would be included but after being on the pitch for 31 seconds for the first team, he wasn?t named. It has also been revealed that Paul Scholes turned down the chance to come out of retirement, instead he chose to spend some time with his family. Wes Brown wasn?t named, which was a bit of a surprise considering that he played for England during the qualifying stages, unlike Liverpool?s Jamie Carragher, who has decided that he?s finished sulking, he will come out of retirement and play for England again, he has been included. Gary Neville and Ben Foster also weren?t included in the England squad. That?s not really much of a surprise, Neville probably wouldn?t get a game and Foster has hardly played this s...

Comfortable Win For Man United, But It Wasn't Quite Enough
2010-05-10 01:45:00
Earlier on today Man United put in a professional performance against Stoke, unfortunately after thrashing Wigan 8-0, it was Chelsea who lifted the Premier League trophy. Nothing United could do would affect what happened down at Stamford Bridge, but a job needed to be done at Old Trafford against Stoke. Early news from London was that Chelsea had got a six-minute goal against Wigan. That surely all but guaranteed them the title but whilst it was still only at 1-0 United had a chance and had to win. United took the lead just after the half hour mark through a Ryan Giggs corner was headed at goal by Nemanja Vidic. His header rebounded off a few players and into the path of Darren Fletcher, who hit the ball into the roof of the net. With around 12/13 minutes before half time, both scorelines at Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford stood at 2-0, with Wigan down to 10 men in the process. United?s second came after a descent run by Dimitar Berbatov, who had been guilty of missing a...

Manchester United V Stoke Preview
2010-05-09 00:52:00
Tomorrow we will find who will win the Premier League this season, since the season started all the way back in mid August 2009. Manchester United and Chelsea can both win it, but Chelsea has the advantage. Chelsea are one point ahead of United, if they beat Wigan then they will be champions. If the London side draw or lose and Man United win then Man United will retain the trophy. Man United face a Stoke side that only a few weeks ago lost 7-0 to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It?s not like Stoke don?t have anything to play for, their lowest possible table position is 13th, which will earn them £6.4 million. If they beat United, their highest possible finish is 9th, earning them £9.6 million. Unlike Liverpool at Anfield last weekend against Chelsea, Stoke won?t roll over against Man United. Man United has been hampered by many injuries throughout this season but tomorrow Sir Alex Ferguson will only have three players out injured. Long-term absentees Anderson and Michael Owen hav...

Fridays Transfer Rumour Round-Up
2010-05-07 11:25:00
With the Premier League season nearly finished and the summer transfer window only around the corner, many players will be linked with a move too and from Manchester United. Each day there will be different rumours, here are the pick of todays. Man United defender Nemanja Vidic has been linked with a move away, but today he has tried to put those rumours to bed. Vidic has been quoted as saying: "I can't do anything about it.? "I have said many times I am here and I have shown on the pitch my commitment. I enjoy playing. Nothing changes, I am here." One player who won?t be going anywhere is Jonny Evans after he signed a new five-year deal, he had been linked with a move to Real Madrid. ?I am delighted to have signed a new contract,? Evans said. ?I?ve supported Manchester United all my life and it?s a great honour to be able to continue to wear the badge of this great club. I?d like to thank the staff, players and fans for their continued support in my development.? Ben Foster...
