Muscular Endurance for a Strong Finish
2008-01-06 00:39:00
Ever reached the 18th tee needing a par or better to break your all-time record?  Ever made bogey, double bogey, or worse?  Some golfers will instantly start blaming their golf swing.  Others will insist that they are world-renowned choke artists.  And certainly, either could be partly to blame.  But how many times have you heard a ...

Your Legs Power Your Golf Swing
2008-01-05 18:01:00
A common question I see asked is, “what is the role of the legs in the golf swing?”  Modern day principles tell us that the legs are used for stability.  The great swingers of the past used their legs to create dynamic power in their golf swings.  So which idea is right, stability or power? By ...

Wrist Strength Exercise
2008-01-03 17:55:00
Having less than strong wrists will make a dynamic golf swing very difficult to achieve.  At the top of the swing, the wrists balance the club as your body reacts to your objective of hitting the ball at the target.  At impact, your wrists are the first major joints to receive the full force of impact with the ball and the ground.  Strengthening your wrists will improve your ball striking and it will improve your longevity as well. A simple exercise for strengthing your wrists can be done with a golf club or a dumbbell.  Stand with you arms at your sides and the club or dumbbell in one hand. Lift the club or dumbbell with only your wrist, so the club or dumbbell is pointed straight towards the sky. Do as many repititions as you can while only using your wrists.  Then switch hands and repeat. This exercise will help build the wrist muscles that athletic golfers need to be successful.

Putt with Your Feet
2008-01-02 23:17:00
Your feet are one of the most valuable putting tools that most everyone who plays golf is equipped with.  Learn to putt with your feet, and you will learn success on the greens. Your feet send subconscious messages to your brain constantly throughout your day.  They are instrumental for your balance and awareness of your surroundings. When you are standing on the green, your feet are telling your brain all sorts of information, including slope and surface texture.  Walking around a putt from the ball to the hole will tell your brain an enormous amount of information.  The best part is, you don’t have to think about any of it. If it wasn’t so taboo, I would putt barefoot every time.  Then again, I would do a lot of things differently.

How to Cure a Mind Flaw

How to Cure a Mind Flaw
2008-01-02 18:26:00
A mind flaw is an error in a thought process.  To understand how to fix our golf swings, we have to understand how to fix our minds.  This is always more difficult than fixing our bodies.  But to understand how we make the physical motion of a golf swing, we must understand the link between body and mind. In golf, and many other areas of life, I am constantly observing people do things that are counter-productive to their goals.  As part of the learning process, humans break down complex ideas into smaller pieces.  We do this because our minds are only capable of focusing on one thing at a time.  Our focus is focused; a pretty intuitive concept, when given a little thought. The problem is that when we focus in on the smaller pieces, we tend to forget about the whole.  So to learn successfully, we must be continuously linking back and forth from the pieces to the whole and vice versa.  If we don’t, we run the risk of breaking down the whole into pieces, and putting them...

Golf Resolutions for the New Year
2008-01-01 00:11:00
A new year is coming, and with a new year comes new opportunities to improve the way you play golf.  Here is a list of ten golf related resolutions you can use for the new year. 1.  This year I will smile more on the golf course. 2.  This year I will live in the moment and plan for the future, both on and off the golf course. 3.  This year I will spend more time on the putting green than the driving range. 4.  This year I will start a workout regiment, even if it is only squeezing a tennis ball. 5.  This year I will make myself a weighted club. 6.  This year I will keep detailed statistics and play to the odds on every shot. 7.  This year I will care more about my score than my driving distance.  8.  This year I will introduce someone new to the game of golf. 9.  This year I will play more rounds of golf than the last. 10.  This year I will stop thinking so much about my darn golf swing!

What are Golf Swing Dynamics?
2007-12-30 18:10:00
What is the concept golf swing dynamics?  And what is it used for?  These are two very important questions that you should know the answers to. Some teachers, professionals, and commentators consider swing dynamics to be the physics behind the actual ball flight and speed produced by the golf swing.  Others believe that swing dynamics is a term that refers to the bio-technical body movements that produce a golf shot. I believe that golf swing dynamics is a phrase that is most useful when it refers to the purposeful, fluid and holistic motion that dynamically, or through motion, creates power and accuracy in the golf swing. Thus, the dynamic golf swing is not achieved through the study of physics and biology on the part of the student.  It is achieved by studying the purpose and fluidity of the golf swing in the context of a system as a whole. If there is one physics aspect of the golf swing that I would have all golfers completely understand, it is that hitting down on the ba...

Winter Golf
2007-12-28 23:51:00
Did you know that you can still play golf during the Winter …even in New England?  You can - the key is to visit courses that are located on the shoreline.  These courses rarely, if ever, accumulate any snow.  When you start getting even as little as 5 miles inland, you start seeing snow pile up. Here are some tips for playing golf during the cold Winter months: 1.  Dress in layers for warmth. The top layer should always be a windbreaker of some sort.  Rain jackets work well for this purpose.  Next, wear a warm sweater or sweatshirt.  A vest is a good layer to have on next because it keeps your core warm, but does not interfere with your arms.  Then, have a golf shirt with a collar underneath, so that the collar can show and look nice and have a tee shirt underneath that.  Your upper body should be nice and cozy, but not too thick to swing.  It will keep your backswing shorter, but for most of us, this is a good thing.  Wear long johns underneath your pants, and dou...

Using Bounce for Bunker Shots
2007-12-27 23:01:00
The simplest way to effectively hit a greenside bunker shot depends a great deal on the consistency of the sand. If you are in shallow, coarse sand, setting up square will help to take bounce off of your wedge so the leading edge can cut into the sand more easily. In beach sand, playing the shot from an open stance will help use the bounce to pop the ball out - this type of sand was what bounce was created for. This little tip will help you utilize the design of your sand wedge for greenside bunker shots.

Fitness is one of the most important factors in your golf swing. Flexibility and strength in the right places are vital for attaining some of the positions in the golf swing that create dynamic and natural power and fluidity. I have previously stated that I am no expert in golf fitness: but I am not too shabby at doing some research to find other golfers that do. Here is a list of great golf fitness websites to help you improve your swing and keep you on the course for years to come: 1. Greg Norman’s Fitness Tips Learn Greg Norman’s personal workout and read fitness tips from the Shark himself. 2. Split Grip Drill for a Better Release
2007-12-26 20:37:00
Here is a simple little drill to help you feel a proper release in your golf swing. By proper release, I mean a release that is not flipping or casting the club. Take your normal stance and normal grip. Then, slide your right hand down to the very bottom of the grip, so that there are a few inches separating your right pinkie finger and left index finger. Then, just make a normal golf swing. I don’t need to explain to you what this drill does: you will feel it. But if you must know, basically, it prevents your wrists from breaking down incorrectly, and keeps the arms and body working together. You could say that it prevents you from doing anything really, really strange in your swing. But if there’s a will, there’s a way
