After Penguins fans raised holy hell in 2001 when Washington Capitals owner Ted Leonsis restricted playoff ticket sales to the local DC fan base, the Penguins are now doing the same thing as per the Ticketmaster fine print: Orders by residents outside of PA, OH, WV, MD, NY, NJ, DE, VA and the District of Columbia will be canceled without notice and refunds given. Leonsis remembers the reaction to his strategy in 2001, and the irony of the most vocal complainers doing the same thing seven years later: We were raked over the coals in the Pittsburgh media for our efforts. As with all signings, the terms of the deal were not made public. The fifth overall pick in the 2007 Entry Draft, Alzer will most likely start next season in Hershey, though it is possible he may make the Capitals with a strong training camp. He will participate in the team’s summer development camp July 7-12 at Kettler. From the Capitals press release: A two-time gold medalist at the IIHF World Junior Championship with Canada, Alzner captained the Canadian team in 2007-08 and was named one of the team’s top three players by the coaching staff. Alzner also represented Canada in the 2007 Canada/Russia Super Series and played for the WHL team in the 2006 Canada-Russia Challenge. Previously affiliated for seven seasons from 1977 to 1984, this next season will be the fourth in this most recent marriage. Currently, the Capitals are also affiliated with the East Coast Hockey League’s South Carolina Stingrays. Additionally, per Tim Leone, it was also announced that Bob Woods’ contract was extended and will be the head coach of the Bears for 2008-09 with Mark French as an assistant.
