Planning an inexpensive weekend Ice Fishing
2008-03-11 04:52:00
Ice fishing was canceled this weekend of March 8th and 9th , it has basically been doing nothing but raining, but for all of you depending on what State or Province you live in, I'm sure the weather is stable and the conditions are still great. Many people don't realize how many activities are available to them during the winter months, why stay inside and wait for spring to come and wait for the lakes and rivers to thaw out? Be a little daring and adventuresome, get your winter clothing on,grab your poles and fishing gear and head out to your favorite lake or other fishing area. Ice fishing is exciting and enjoyable even though the lakes are frozen over from the long winters chill, there are many fish under all that ice , just waiting to be caught. The fish are plentiful, and are more abundant during this time of year. Here are some advantages to ice fishing compared to fishing in the warmer months. 1) You do not have to fight off pesky flies and other insects. 2) You do not ha...

2008-03-07 02:40:00
This post is not going to be your ordinary sports blog post, but we wanted to incorporate fitness and health into our blog and encourage parents and children to get out and become involved in activities that will benefit their physical health. As you might already heard, and your going to keep hearing it over and over again, but obesity in American adults is on the rise and continuing, its becoming one of the biggest epidemics in the United States. Two thirds of American adults are overweight and another third are either obese or morbidly obese, However this does not exclude our young children, according to statistics approximately 32 percent of children about two-thirds are overweight and nearly one-third are obese. Why is obesity in adults and our children on the uprise? There are many factors to consider here, Lack of exercise and unhealthy eating are two of the main causes of obesity. Genetics plays a big role in being obese, living a sedentary lifestyle ,sitting in front of the...

Helpful safety Tips Hiking and cross country skiing
2008-03-06 02:48:00
Helpful safety Tips : Always remember that whenever you go outside into the cold winter air,to dress warmly and appropriately. Wear several layers of clothing, so that you can peel back a couple of articles of clothing, should you start sweating excessively.Make sure you have the right skiing equipment and that the boots and bindings fit properly, you want to protect any body parts ,like your face, head and hands too, that will be exposed to the cold winter air, thus reducing any chance of frostbite. A nice pair of tinted or clear goggles are helpful especially when there are high winds and blustery conditions,as not to hinder your vision. A backpack is a wonderful thing to carry with you on a long cross country trip, it might seem a little cumbersome to carry with you, but its better to be safe then sorry. Here is a list of items to pack with you: First aid kit flashlight small radio walkie talkies/ cellphone compass reflective heating blanket Matches, cigarette lighter bottled wat...

Use Title Links For More Info On The Catskill Mountains Recreation Guide. Outdoor winter sports/recreation and related health benefits: Year after year during the onset of the winter months, people have a tendency to withdraw from their jogging/running activities due to the inclement weather that winter imposes on us. Most people who are physical fitness enthusiasts are always more involved with outdoor activities as compared to working out indoors. For the most part, many of us have a tendency to rack up a few extra pounds during the winter months, why?, because we become less active and sit around the house and eat more, boredom plays a big role in this matter too as well is the fact that its so cold outside that we would rather not go out unless we have to.Lose those extra pounds with "Top Secret Fat Loss Secrets" Cross country skiing is considered one of the most aerobically involved activities because of the level of intensity , causing you to use your upper body muscles,...

Latest reports on trail conditions for sullivan and surrounding areas
2008-02-29 05:20:00
We had another fun filled weekend snowmobiling here in the Catskill Mountains, Skiers can use the title of this post to link to ski reports and Snowmobile's use the link for weather conditions also. On Friday February 29th, the Catskills of Sullivan County , had received another seven to ten inches of snow added to the existing 10 to 12 inches of snow base, the conditions made for perfect riding this past weekend. Snowmobile's including us, and some of our other fellow snowmobile's.had a great fun filled weekend of riding, we put on at least 150 miles if not more, not only was the snow covered scenery a winter wonderland, but the trails we rode went for miles through the county. We took many photos and were recording videos most of the day, of our adventures , well at least until darkness crept up upon us. The destination we chose, was a long one,but the long ride was well worth the effort, as our last stop was a local tavern located on a hill in the middle of nowhere .It was o...

Ski Bibs snowmobiling bibs What should I wear?
2008-02-27 22:30:00
Your out there on the slopes or trails and your getting pretty wet and feeling that you can't seem to get warm enough, did you ever wonder why? You went out and bought all kinds of winter apparel to wear , but yet your clothes are getting soaked from the snow only a couple of hours later. That's because many people do not really know the definition between waterproof and water resistant /water repellent. Let me clarify this for you and help you to understand the difference between the two. Definition of Waterproof: Impervious to water; especially : covered or treated with a material (as a solution of rubber) to prevent permeation by water. Definition of Water resistant / water-repellent : Treated with a finish that is resistant but not impervious to penetration by water. Having wet clothing on your body takes the heat away from it and water diverts it faster than air itself therefore making you feel colder more rapidly. Choosing the right winter apparel is a necessity w...

Autista: I can do this!
2008-02-17 20:01:00
Helping out is what I know best, I don't have to get paid for doing it, I believe the gratification of someone saying, Your a true friend, Or I don't know what I would do with out you, is all I need. When a friend tells another about what he has gained from being around me it makes me feel that I should help others in every way I can. The link on this post is of a blog written by a true hero, please take a minute to read and I know you'll think the same.Get your free Snow boarding video click Here! Enjoy the winter and I will continue to post as often as I can, comments and suggestions are always welcome. Autista: I can do this!
Changing the drive belt on your snowmobile
2008-02-17 15:44:00
I made this video specifically for changing the drive belt on your snowmobile and showing a tool that I made for free With a little Velcro, the end of a shovel that was no longer any use to me, has come in so handy and I thought I would show the world. OK, I'm sure this has happened to many riders and if not it will eventually, The drive belt is the most important part to the sled to keep it in motion,When the belt is worn and missing pieces it will eventually break and leave you stranded . Now if your alone out in the woods it will help you get on the trail again and safely back to where you want to be,The sled I use to demonstrate this on is a 2005 arctic cat 600cc. The belt started to fall apart and I was left on the trail, I always have a spare belt on my sled and if you ride without one your taking a big chance on having to leave the sled behind. The instructions on how to change the belt are easy to read but when you get down to what the instructions ask, it's not as easy ...

Extreme snowmobiling tips, getting free
2008-02-04 14:42:00
Ok so now we found some snow, some real snow! Before heading out on your snowmobile, you should tell someone or leave a note advising the reader where they are going, what route you plan to take, and when they plan to return. For longer rides, snowmobiler should carry food and water, a towrope, snowshoes and a shovel, In any event, the snowmobile should be in good condition and have plenty of fuel. Ok so we get stuck and there Is only you and a friend, the snow is very deep and you get stuck... Oh now what... well watch this video and what I was going to try to explain is shown here, Watch all the techniques and trust me they work. If the snowmobile breaks down on a marked trail, it is best to stay with the machine until another snowmobiler arrives, according to the warden. Riders should carry a cell phone from which to call for help and a GPS unit, if they have one, to pinpoint their location. Other necessities include a flashlight and matches or something suitable to start a fi...

Skiing and Snowboarding Before you hit the slopes to ski or snowboard, make sure you have the right equipment — and that it fits you right. Many kids have problems because the equipment they use is too big for them. It may have belonged to an older brother or sister and they are hoping that they can "grow into it." Equipment that is too big will make it hard for you to keep control. The same goes for boots and bindings — make sure these are the right size for your feet before getting on the slopes. Ski boots that are designed just for kids are a good bet because they are more flexible than boots for adults, and they have buckles that are easier to manage, too — making it quicker for you to get skiing! Helmets are a must for skiing and snowboarding. Goggles will protect your eyes from bright sunlight and objects that could get in the way and poke you in the eye (like tree branches). Just like with inline skating, snowboarders need kneepads and elbow pads. Some snowbo...

Checks and Basic Maintenance before we ride
2008-02-03 02:14:00
Take your time, check your list, then hit the trails. With the snowmobile season well on it way in North America , snowmobile enthusiasts no doubt are on there way, jumping on their machines and hitting the trails at the first sign of white stuff. But are they wise, Be the smart rider, for it pays to take a few minutes to conduct some checks or preventative maintenance techniques to ensure your machine is in tip-top shape the entire season long, not just for the first run. Something to think about is that even though your sled may be prepared for the rest of riding season, it is every rider’s responsibility to keep his or her machine in top condition right up until the last ride of the season. To do this you need to give your machine some basic in-season maintenance, not only so that you can enjoy a full winter’s worth of riding, but also to provide us with a little peace of mind when we find ourselves out in the middle of no where. A few pre-operation checks should be ...

If I'm going out in the cold what should I wear?
2008-01-07 23:30:00
Keep Warm Dressing in layers is the best way to regulate your body temperature. When you venture out into the cold weather, you need to be prepared for sudden changes in temperature. If you start to get too warm, you should remove a layer. If you are getting cold, add a layer. Many thin layers of clothing will allow you to adjust for temperature changes.Clothing should be wind proof and water repellent. You should select the right combination of clothing to stay warm. Clothing should be loose enough to permit freedom of movement. If you dress properly, moisture will evaporate from your body. If you become too hot and your clothing traps moisture, you will get cold. It is best to choose jackets, sweaters and shirts that can be unbuttoned or unzipped. That way, you may open up the clothing rather than removing it when you start to become overheated. If you start to cool down, zip or button up the clothing to preserve body heat.Although a helmet is not required in South Dakota, an app...
