UFC Hall-of-Famer Ken Shamrock will join host Mauro Ranallo on FIGHT NETWORK RADIO (Sirius Channel 186) at 3 PM EST/12 PM PST today. Shamrock, who turns 43 in February, will address his ongoing feud with UFC president Dana White, which is rumored to include a lawsuit. A 14-year veteran of the sport, Shamrock (26-12-2) has won only one fight in six years. He lost to arch rival Tito Ortiz for a third time in October 2006 and has not competed since.

Fabiano Quietly Climbs To The Top of IFL Lightweight Division - 07 Nov 2007
2007-11-07 22:03:00
By Ben Fowlkes Wagnney Fabian o is an unassuming guy. He manages to get lost in the throng of fighters every time the IFL goes on the road. He can wander through the hotel lobby without getting stopped for an autograph and he can walk into the hotel restaurant without even getting asked whether or not he?s a fighter. It?s strange when you think about it. Chris Horodecki gets a lot of attention in the IFL?s lightweight division, and it certainly isn?t undeserved, but Fabiano is undefeated in his first season and has only gone out of the first round once, and that came just this past weekend against John Gunderson. Is it because he?s a submissions artist and not a flashy striker? Is it because he?s a Brazilian and not a baby-faced kid from North America? Whatever the reason, Fabiano has mostly flown under the radar his whole career despite an impressive 8-1 record with the only blemish a decision loss to veteran Jeff Curran. (Continue Reading)

Charles McCarthy Catches Us Up On His TUF Life - 07 Nov 2007 08:11:46pm
2007-11-07 21:11:00
By Sid Needelman Char les McCarthy, Ultimate Fighter star reminds us what great talent he trains with, that he'll be back in the UFC with 5 fights left on his contract, and on a side-note, an update on the Phil Baroni, The New York Badass' troubles in Charle's region of the country. Charles McCarthy, The Ultimate Fighter star, calls up from out west. One of his stablemates is preparing for a fight tonight. Carmelo Marerro is ready off his stint in the UFC, and his recent grappling battle with Babalu, and is ready for his next fight. Others on the card include one of my favorites, Butterbean. Say what you will about his ground game, but he is fun to watch because he brings it every time and does not fear focusing on his stand-up game. And while Butterbean is not everyone's favorite, Mark Kerr, who is also on the card is not either. He has had his trouble as the world watched his spiral in drugs in the documentary The Smashing Machine. Had I not traveled from Florida...

Roan Carneiro: "It will be an Amazing Fight!" - 07 Nov 2007 07:33:42pm
2007-11-07 20:33:00
By Gleidson Venga Roan Carneiro is in Atlanta, training for his return to the Octagon on Dec. 29 against Peruvian Tony DeSouza. The Brazilian welterweight, 11-6, fought most recently in June, losing via rear-naked choke to Jon Fitch. Carneiro knows he won't have an easy time with DeSouza, 10-3, who is coming off a knockout loss in December 2006 to Thiago Alves. "I thought he is an excellent choice," Carneiro said of the matchup with DeSouza. "He is a well-known guy. He is very experienced and tough. Man, I like this guy!" UFC 79 promises to be one of the better events this year, and Carneiro guarantees that, if it's up to him, he will make his fight the best of the night. "It will be an amazing fight," Carneiro said. "Both of us lost our last fights, so we have to give our best."

By Stash Capar Lithuanian striker Marios Zaromskis will take on Ross Pointon, a cast member on season three of ?The Ultimate Fighter? reality series, at Cage Rage 24 ?Feel the Pain? on Saturday, Dec. 1 at Wembley Arena in London, England. Zaromskis (6-1), a product of the highly respected London Shootfighters team, has become a promising young welterweight, with five victories by KO or TKO; his latest came by flying knee against Ross Mason at Cage Rage 22. The soft-spoken Lithuanian operates in stark contrast to the brash Pointon (5-9), who recently dropped from middleweight to welterweight. ?The Gladiator? has lost two of his three fights at 170 pounds. His most recent fight ended in a submission victory over Elite Fighting Systems protégé Dean Bray.
Alistair Overeem vs Paul Buentello, A War in the making. - 07 Nov 2007 07:1
2007-11-07 20:13:00
By Stash Capar One of Europe?s most recognizable mixed martial artists will finally get his chance to take home a belt in a matter of days. Dutch PRIDE veteran Alistair ?Demolition Man? Overeem will vie for the vacant Strikeforce heavyweight title, as he takes on tough-as-nails American striker Paul ?The Headhunter? Buentello on Friday, Nov. 16 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Many expect the bout will be a total stand-up war. ?I?m paying a lot of attention to strength and explosiveness in my training,? Overeem said. ?I?ve changed a lot of things in my regimen, and I see the results. It?s strange ? I?ve never really focused on conditioning or functional strength, never lifted weights in my life, and I probably should have.? The Golden Glory fighter (25-11) needs a win after losing three out of four bouts over the past year. All three came by first round TKO to top tier competition, including his most recent loss to Golden Glory teammate Sergei Kharitonov (15-3) at K-1 HERO?...

MMAWeekly: How are you feeling since the fight with Akiyama? Denis Kang: I?m fine. I?m taking a week off from running or anything like that and I?m not going to spar for a few weeks because I?m pretty sure I had a concussion. I had some memory loss, but other than that I?m fine. I?m ready to start training for whatever comes next; hopefully it will be Dec. 31. MMAWeekly: Can you take me through the fight? Denis Kang: Everything was going really well. I was backing him up. I could see his low kicks coming and I could see his jabs and other punches coming and I was tagging him ? I don?t want to say at will, but I wasn?t having much trouble finding my range. There came a point where we were trading jabs. I jabbed, he jabbed. His jab landed right on my eye and I basically lost all of my depth perception from that point forward, ...

Xcess Fighting's Debut Card, Fighters Make Weight - 07 Nov 2007 06:15:47pm
2007-11-07 19:15:00
By Cesar Garcia HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Nov. 6 -- Weight s are in for Xcess Fighting's debut card and all fighters made weight except for one. In fact, he never tried. Nowhere to be found, main event attraction Eric "Butterbean" Esch was replaced by the man who's made a career of being a last second replacement, Ruben "Warpath" Villareal. "I was originally supposed to fight Mark Kerr but I had to drop out because of personal obligations," said Villareal. "But I took care of those and when I was called I was ready, so I took it." "I can only speculate that he saw Jimmy and ? he got Titanitis," said promoter Bruce Bellocchi regarding Butterbean's disappearance, hinting that perhaps the former boxer thought twice about facing longtime veteran Jimmy "The Titan" Ambriz. Official card and weights: Jimmy Ambriz (280 lbs.) vs. Ruben Villareal (264 lbs.) Mark Kerr (279 lbs.) vs. Stephen Gavin (254 lbs.) Maverick Harvey...

Wanderlei Silva says the "best years" are yet to come - 06 Nov 2007 12:12:0
2007-11-06 01:12:00
By Elias Cepeda If you are an American and you have only recently become a fan of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) you?ve probably wondered what the big deal regarding recently signed UFC fighter Wanderlei Silva is all about. Long time and international fans are likely breathless about Silva fighting the likes of Chuck Liddell to the point of giving their boyfriends/girlfriends, wives/husbands pause so the proceeding explanation isn?t needed for them. But for new fans, all you need to know is that Silva was simply a must have for the UFC after it?s ownership purchased ?The Axe Murderer?s? long time employer, the Pride MMA organization, based out of Japan. Silva is probably the most accomplished and exciting 205-lb fighter in the sport?s short history and was arguably the most dominant champion in any weight class while he reigned as the Pride ?Middleweight? (205-lb) champ for years. You know Quinton ?Rampage? Jackson, the man who knocked out Chuck Liddell last May to become the UFC?s ...

Ken Shamrock: "Dana White Wants To Be The Guy!" - 05 Nov 2007 11:41:10pm
2007-11-06 00:41:00
By Percy Crawford UFC Hall of Famer and MMA veteran Ken Shamrock talks about how open tryout have been going for IFL team and shares his thoughts on Randy Couture's resignation from the UFC as well as his own dealings with UFC management and much more. You don't want to miss it! PC: Were you surprised at the way Randy Couture left the UFC? KS: Yeah! I was more surprised not at the way Randy left the UFC, but they did that so quickly after what they did to me. It's almost like they feel like no one can touch them. They have this Mike Tyson syndrome that they could do whatever they want. It really did surprise me that they did it that soon after they did it to me. Now, what they've done is basically open everyone's eyes because with me, it was kind of subtle and people were kind of upset it happened, but they just figured it was just another professional athlete that got a problem in the office and things just didn't work out and now he's gone. 2007-11-06 00:24:00
After a great victory over Jeff Monson, the owner of the heavyweight belt Art of War, Pedro Rizzo took a plane this Sunday at 9pm to the Netherlands where he prepares to help his friend Peter Aerts in his preparation for K-1 GP final. "I will spend three weeks helping Peter and will also improve my Muay Thai. He will first face a Japanese, and if he wins he will face the winner of the fight between Bonjansky and a Thai, while on the other side Glaube Feitosa faces Schilty and Le Banner fights with the Korean giant. I believe in a final between Peter and Schilty. I am sure that if Peter is well prepared, even though he´s 37 years, he has great chances of winning his fourth title", Rizzo analyzed. The brazillian should only return to defend his belt at the end of January or beginning of February against opponent not defined. Source: www.tatame.com

I?m back on track, and I?m ready to get back in there and hunt for [the WEC featherweight] title, as well.? In the meantime, the former TKO featherweight champion will compete next at TKO 31 ?Young Guns? on Friday, Dec. 14 at the Bell Centre in Montreal. No opponent has been named for Hominick (14-7). Patrick Cote NOT On UFC 80 Card - 05 Nov 2007 10:47:55pm
2007-11-05 23:47:00
By Mike Russell Unsubstantiated reports circulated over the weekend that Canadian middleweight Patrick Cote had announced he would be returning to the UFC in January 2008. Not so, according to Cote. The Rimouski, Quebec native told TGFN a statement on his Facebook page was taken out of context. Cote said he was only scheduled to appear at UFC 80 if it was held in Canada; the January event has since been moved. Since he was not invited to fight at the replacement show Saturday, Jan. 19 in Newcastle, England, ?The Predator? speculated he might be invited to compete on the next card, slated for Saturday, Feb. 2 in Las Vegas. ?I don?t know who said [I?d be fighting at UFC 80], but I said that I will probably be fighting in February,? Cote said. ?I was supposed to fight in January, and now I?m not, then they say I?m going to fight at UFC 81 on Super Bowl weekend. F?k, I didn?t say anything like that. I don?t know yet when I?m fighting. Maybe I?ll get a call now next week.? Cote (11-...

Through the Past Darkly: IFL Grand Prix - 05 Nov 2007 10:42:55pm
2007-11-05 23:42:00
By Ben Fowlkes I?ll admit it: I really didn?t believe there was any way the rematch between Bart Palaszewski and Chris Horodecki could live up to the expectations after their first meeting. It just seemed unreasonable. But midway into the second round, after Horodecki had again been stunned by a punch and had fought his way out of another standing guillotine (this time without slipping through the ropes), I knew I was wrong. Palaszewski was once more unhappy with the decision and made it very clear in the post-fight press conference. ?I have no idea what I could have done to win a decision against Chris,? he said. ?He looks like he was in a car wreck and I look fine.? And while it?s easy to understand Palaszewski?s frustration, I have to admit that it looked as though Horodecki outworked him in the fight and showed tremendous heart in the process. I?ve always been struck by how calm Horodecki looks in his fights, but when he gets hit a few times that look changes. Then...

Return of "The Punisher" - 05 Nov 2007 10:04:49pm
2007-11-05 23:04:00
By Kelly Thomas Riding an eight fight win-streak going into the Rashad Evans fight, September of last '06, Jason Lambert looked to have the opportunity to earn a few fans with a win over another Ultimate Fighter alum. The athletic Rob MacDonald being the first, succumbing in just a couple minutes into the first round. Obviously things have a way of working out a little different than what you hope. Rashad would eventually get mount and pound out the Punisher . That win-streak, with fighters like IFL standout Matt Horwich, MacDonald, Brandon Lee Hinkle, thunder-handed Terry Martin and journeymen Travis Wiuff and Marvin Eastman on it, counted for very little after the loss. It was time to regroup. Lambert would have to make it a hasty regrouping because it was not too long before the UFC called with another match-up. It wasn't a `gimme' to help Lambert get on track though, not at all. How about "Babalu" Sobral after, as if that wouldn't be tough enoug...

By Dayton Morinaga Interim or not, Hilo's BJ Penn is ready to chase a shot at mixed martial arts history. Even if it means chasing it a long way from home. Penn confirmed Saturday night that he will face California's Joe Stevenson for the interim lightweight world championship of the Ultimate Fight ing Championship organization in January. The bout for the top prize in the UFC's 155-pound division is scheduled for Jan. 19 at Newcastle, England. It will be the main event of the UFC 80 card. "I was training hard all this time, but it was tough to get motivated not knowing what was going on," Penn said. "At least now I know I have to get ready for Stevenson if I want that belt." Penn, 28, will be attempting to become the second MMA athlete to win a UFC world championship in two different weight classes. He held the welterweight (170 pounds) title in 2004. Ready For Shields, Pyle Declines Title Shot - 05 Nov 2007 04:51:14pm
2007-11-05 17:51:00
By Jeff Cain When Mike Pyle steps into the EliteXC cage on Nov. 10 to take on Jake Shields it will be the final fight of his contract. At the conclusion of the bout Pyle and EliteXC will part ways. The main reason Pyle decided to not extend his contract with EliteXC was the organization's lack of promoting him. "Have you seen any promotion with EliteXC with me?? asked the Xtreme Couture fighter. ?I feel that I'm a worthy enough opponent to get that respect and I feel that they really don't think so. I don't think they really know what they have in their hands. "I had made the decision to not extend the contract because of the lack of promotion with me. It just seemed like it might have been a lack of interest. I don't know what the problem was or if they were just dragging their feet a bit. Whatever it was, I don't have time for that. I felt it's time for me to move on and get noticed." The fight with Shields was originally planned to ...

Rollins is now a household name to MMA fans, but since the sixth season of ?The Ultimate Fighter? began airing in September, Rollins had been under assault. ?People were hitting me up like they know me and asking me what happened on the show,? he said. ?When I said I couldn?t tell them, they?d look at me like I was crazy. It was bad. Literally. They didn?t understand that I was bound by contract. If I said anything there would be severe penalties. ?I think [Zuffa and Spike TV] would cut off my hands and feet. Yet a substantial number of people in the arena and at home will be familiar with Kimbo Slice, both with his menacing, bearded mug and his 235-pound frame capable of rendering those in close proximity concussed and ego-bruised. That's because the Florida native has engaged observers with the time-honored Myth of the Street Fighter (MOSF©), a self-explanatory aura that never fails to fascinate fight fans. Report Connects Zuffa to Xyience - 05 Nov 2007 03:38:21pm
2007-11-05 16:38:00
By Adam Swift Xyience recently signed a three-year extension on its exclusive partnership with the UFC, but the supplement company's reportedly close ties to the mixed martial arts promotion have not appeased several disgruntled fighters Xyience once sponsored. Xyience, which formed in 2004, announced the extension in conjunction with a $12 million funding effort. A relationship between Xyience and Zuffa that runs much deeper than advertising and sponsorship agreements has long been speculated though not acknowledged. However, this week in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer released a non-sourced report that said UFC owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta were responsible for Xyience's recent multi-million dollar funding. When asked for comment on the source of funding and specifically about the Fertittas' and Dana White's involvement in Xyience, the Las Vegas-based sports nutrition company, through a public relations representative, told Sherdog.com ...

Feisty Cotto to defend title - 05 Nov 2007 03:29:23pm
2007-11-05 16:29:00
By Santos A. Perez One of boxing's weapons to combat the knocks it receives from sports rival mixed martial arts are Miguel Cotto's plans to remain true to form in his highly anticipated fight Saturday night. Cotto's penchant for ring aggression, and to some critics, a dosage of rule-breaking measures, has crafted an unbeaten career and world titles in two weight classes. The Puerto Rico native will seek a similar approach when he defends his World Boxing Association welterweight title against Shane Mosley at Madison Square Garden in New York . ''People like to see me go after guys,'' Cotto said in a conference call last week. ``That's the way I fight. That's the way everyone enjoys the fight. And I will always do that.'' Already popular in Puerto Rico, Cotto (30-0, 25 KOs) now has crossed another threshold of boxing stardom.
