Pezão is back 13 kg lighter on Saturday
2007-11-10 08:37:00
After a surgery and achieving the requirements of the athletic committee of California, that had denied his visa to fight in America because of a small tumor located in the pituitary gland, Antonio Pezão is back, lighter and more motivated to reach the top of the heavyweight category . According to his manager, Alex Davis, the surgery held in Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro , by Dr. Marcelo Pinaus was a great success. "Now he´s lighter and faster. Before, he was 135kg, but now he decided to lose weight to the enter the heavys category and is weighing 122kg" said Alex, who believes in Pezão´s victory in Elite XC, which is held this Saturday (10) in Texas, USA. "Johnathan Wiezorack is tough, has 11 fights and only one loss, but I believe Pezão can win him. He is returning to be the best heavy in the world" bet Alex. Source: www.tatame.com

2007-11-10 08:20:00
Dnevnik.hr: Is CroCop back? Mirko: CroCop is recovered, it will take a month to begin with sparrings again, although I have a special helmet for protection. The stripes are affecting my visibility so it's not like the real thing, but the regular sparring sessions start in about a month. I think my next fight is going to happen in January. You recently had a nose surgery? Mirko: The nose problems have nothing to do with my defeats. I had trouble breathing, my nose was broken, one side was at 30%, while the other side was blocked completely. It's important when you face such an intense efforts. Is this the toughest period in your career after you left K1? Mirko: Not only that, this is the toughest period of my entire career. Did you think about ending your career? Mirko: I did think of it the night after my last defeat, but I'm not going to end my career soon. I will have 5 or 6 fights at least. Maybe even more, who can tell. Every fight could be your last one. You...

Kimbo Slice Escapes The Web
2007-11-10 06:07:00
By Jose Rodriguez He may be the biggest Internet star to never appear in a porn flick. Kimbo Slice , the web?s undisputed champ of bare-knuckle backyard fights, has amassed a long resume knocking the Chiclets out of Miami street brawlers on YouTube. Promoters say his fights on the ?Net have received more than 10 million downloads. But this spring, the menacing man who wears a thick-link gold chain with a clenched fist pendant, left the underground fight scene to take a serious stab at mixed-martial arts. Most noted for his standup, Slice made his MMA debut in June submitting former WBO heavyweight champ Ray Mercer with a guillotine. Slice, whose real name is Kevin Ferguson, will take his perfect 1-0 record to the cage tonight in EliteXC: Renegade in Corpus Christi, Tex. against the 10 and 10 Bo Cantrell. (Continue Reading)

Riddick Bowe Training MMA With Mark Kerr!
2007-11-10 05:49:00
By David A. Avila HOLLYWOOD, CA. - It was a surreal sight to find former heavyweight world champion boxer Riddick Bowe standing near the entrance to a mixed martial arts fight card in the back lot of an old Hollywood motion picture studio that is now a nightclub. But there he was ?Big Daddy? the former scourge of prizefighting who retired for a period of eight years then returned with a fight here and there. Bowe wants to return again, but not to boxing, he?s throwing his hat into the world of MMA. ?I?ve got to make a living for my family,? said Bowe, 40, who is a two-time heavyweight champion in professional boxing. Xcess Entertainment signed Bowe to fight exclusively for them beginning on Dec. 12. Though no site has been confirmed the former boxer is targeted for that fight card in California. ?If Evander Holyfield can fight so can I,? said Bowe citing his former foe?s age of 45. ?I just turned 40.? Bowe will not be the first former world champion boxer to try the cage, 46...

A product of Team Quest and protégé of former Olympic silver medalist Matt Lindland, Horwich submitted Brian Foster with a first-round armbar Nov. 3 to secure his place in the 185-pound final. White Backpedaling On Sherk?
2007-11-10 05:27:00
By Brian Knapp Having gone on record saying he would not strip lightweight champion Sean Sherk of his title, even if the California State Athletic Commission upholds his positive test for suspected steroid use, UFC president Dana White seems to be in a subtle backpedal. The UFC announced last week that B.J. Penn would square off with Joe Stevenson for the interim lightweight crown at UFC 80 ?Rapid Fire? on Saturday, Jan. 19 in Newcastle, England. White said today he would support the CSAC?s final ruling. Sherk?s appeal hearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4 in Los Angeles. ?The belt can?t be in limbo for this long,? White told UFC.com. ?I?ve said since the beginning that I believe in Sean Sherk, but we have to support the athletic commission in whatever decision they make. As soon as Sean Sherk can put all of this behind him, he can get right back into the Octagon, and he will be given an immediate shot at the lightweight championship.? Cotto Hopes To Capitalize On His Youth
2007-11-10 05:15:00
By Lance Pugmire NEW YORK -- Miguel Cotto's building process is complete. He's 27, unbeaten and ready to cash in on his stature as the World Boxing Assn. welterweight champion. Orchestrated by his veteran promoter Bob Arum, Cotto has knocked out 25 of 30 opponents on a steady career path that parallels the one perfected by Oscar De La Hoya -- a slow and steady series of challenges that accounts for a learning curve but aims for a legendary night. Saturday is that evening for Cotto, who will fight Pomona's Sugar Shane Mosley at Madison Square Garden in New York. Mosley has won world championship belts as a lightweight, welterweight and light middleweight. He's also 36 years old, hasn't knocked out anyone except Fernando Vargas since 2001, and now finds himself in his 50th fight, counting a no-decision. "Throughout boxing history, there's always been battles between the young lion and the old lion," Arum said. "If the young lion is well-sch...

A Message From Evan Tanner! - 10 Nov 2007 03:00:02am
2007-11-10 04:00:00
If whoever took my stuff reads this: I'm really disappointed. I had some things stolen out of my Land Cruiser last night while it was parked in front of the gym. The UFC had just given me a brand new workout bag full of shirts and beanies, with a personalized engraved name tag. They took that. What I'm most upset about though, is that they took all of my mma trading cards that I sign for the fans and the kids. Come on now, that's really uncool. It was all in a storage container in the back of the Cruiser. I'm not sure what else was in it. If whoever did this happens to read this, be cool, at least give my trading cards back. I need those for the fans. It would also be nice to have the name tag back. My car will be in the same place as it was last night. You can just drive by and throw the cards in the back. No questions asked. It would be nice to have everything returned, but at least give the cards back. -Evan

Photo: Chris Farina When Miguel Cotto enters the ring to face Sugar Shane Mosley on Saturday night, he will do it on firm footing. The WBA welterweight champion will be wearing a super hi-tech boxing boot with a special sole made out of a Michelin rubber compound specifically designed to channel liquid away from the shoe to prevent Cotto's feet from slipping on the slick ring canvas advertisements that often cause boxers problems. In addition, the boot is supposed to provide maximum traction, allowing Cotto to firmly plant his feet before unleashing his power punches. Cotto's custom made gold shoes will feature Cotto?s signature logo and the Puerto Rican flag to honor his native country. Source: www.fightnews.com
