My saturday selection could either be construed as a trap or a gimme. I think it will be the latter. Bowling Green went into Pitt last week and beat a ranked team on their own turf. Granted as those of us in Chicago know its not such a huge feat, because if Wannstedt isnt stepping on his own dick he's pulling it. However only giving 4.5 points to a perrenial big ten bottom feeder who managed to barely beat a rebuilding NIU team seems strange. Normally, the more I bet I gimme's that people shy away from because they think its a trap. Minnesota has to prove they can stop an offense greater than the local highschools before i take this little amount of points on the road. I think the gophers are gonna get smoked, bowling green has been a solid MAC team for a number of years. They will be prepared and the triple threat offense that they run will keep the Minnesota defense on their heels all night long. Enzo has faced some adversity recently losing some tight games. That is life early in the season. I still don't understand how on opening night in the NFL there are 23 1st half points scored and no points scored in the 2nd half. Today's college football slate is pretty poor. There are no Top 25 teams playing each other and there are some VERY BIG lines out there as a result. I am not comfortable laying 21+ points no matter who is playing who. With that in mind I think Georgia Tech is a very solid pick on the money line at +240 today. I will give them out here at +6.5 but my money is on them outright today. GT and BC put up a combined 62 points last week. BDA here, Back for a friday night freebie. Tonight I am Looking at taking Ball State giving the midshipmen 7 pts. For those who do not remember (as did I), last years game came down to a field goal. So I thought wow, take the midshipmen right? wrong! Ball State is returning almost all of there starters on offense including QB Nate Davis who passed for 3,667 yards and 30tds last year. Oh, by the way he gets his two top receivers back and almost all of his lineman. Then I dug a little deeper. Special teams- Ball State has an all-american punter (chris Miller) who averaged 45.4 yds per punt last year. Wich means that they can essentially in a perfect world keep Shun White and the triple option of navy pinned deep throughout the game making them run (hopefully) a full field to score. Every year there is one of these games, actually every year there are a ton of these REVENGE games. You know! The games where the general public jumps all over a team because they are traditionally the power and were knocked from 6th place, other examples are, last year they scored a bunch of passing touchdowns late in the game even though it was a blow out, or my favorite, The media report said they intentionally hurt the best player on the team.....so this year we're getting REVENGE GAME! The Aldawg had the distinct pleasure of meeting and chatting with Eli Manning in the off season. I note that this was a pleasure, because I found out the truth about Eli Manning (that I knew all along). He is a pud. A dork. No personality. Lucky to be born in a natural athletic family and have his father pave the way for his career. I could go on and on. He got lucky in the Superbowl, but that is not why the Giants won. Like waking from a long winters slumber, so has it been waiting for football to begin. So lets get it startedI'll be taking Michigan over the Utes minus the 3 points. Michigan is undergoing a coaching change, but they are at home and are looking to reestablish themselves. I just don't think the caliber of athletes that Utah has can not and will not measure up. Michign needs to only get the offense on track to take this one and with everyone picking against them it's time to shine. Take the Fighting Illini over Mizzou with the 8.5. The defense for Zook's squad is nasty and I think Mizzous run last year was an anomoly.
