2007-10-23 05:18:00 All those die hard Rockie fans going back to 1993 seem to be going nuts over their first World Series trip...This is from Duncan Shaw of CBS News in Denver:Colorado Rockies officials said Monday night their computer system for online-only World Series ticket sales was the target of an "external malicious attack," and that online ticket sales will resume at noon Tuesday.Team spokesperson Jay Alves couldn't immediately provide details of the attack. Like a lot of the games in this series the box score at the end of the night can be awfully deceiving. The final score may have been 11-2, but it sure didn't feel like that for a majority of the game. It's very possible that the next 25 guys the Yankees run out on the field in the Spring of 2008 will be very different from those who played for them the last decade. Think about this: It's possible that the only holdover from the championship years will be Derek Jeter. We've seen the last of Torre--and with him probably goes Mariano, Posada. It seems A-Rod may bolt. And Clemens surely won't return. The Yankees as we know them are history.This does give me a sort of satisfaction as a Red Sox fan. It's great to see that the Yankees were stopped in their tracks after a torrid spat of WS Titles. And they were stopped in part by the Sox. After a dicey 1st in which he escaped partly due to a non-RBI DP off the bat of Travis Hafner, Becks gave a clinic on pitching, being efficient while also striking out hitters, and almost got an opportunity to teach Kenny Lofton some humility in the process. The offense finally looked like the offense all season long. Working counts and generally wearing out C.C. Sabathia with a number of great ABs and getting 14 baserunners against him over 6+ innings. Similarly, last year it was the Louisville Cardinals that came in to Piscataway undefeated with a high ranking. Just like last year, the Scarlet Knights came away with the upset.Chris Carlin coined the term last year with his exclamation at the end of his broadcast on WOR with, "pandemonium in Piscataway!!!" I guess the Saints decided to get their offense going, they should give the ball to Reggie; it seems to be working tonight. Throughout the first few games, Reggie Bush was doing to much dancing instead of down hill running. Tonight, he is still dancing a lot, but he is being smart about it. Instead of doing it all the time, he is doing it in spots where it is beneficial to the team.The other thing is, the Saints are using him brilliantly in the passing game. They are throwing him screen passes, and check downs. This gets the ball into his hands with plenty of open space. He can then dance his way around defenders and pick up big chunks of yardage.The last thing about Reggie in the first half is how he is being smart about putting his head down and running straight. 2007-10-15 01:41:00 The New England Patriots are now 6-0. Tom Brady threw for 5 TD passes, and had a 40+ yarder overturned. The Cowboys looked helpless trying to stop this offense. They are simply too good.Now don't let the final score fool you. This game was actually much closer than it appears. Early on in the 4th quarter, the Cowboys were 3rd and Goal on the 5 yard line. Instead of playing it as 4 down territory, they ended up kicking a field goal. At the time it was a 14 point game, and a field goal cut the lead to 11. Why not go for it? Worse case scenario the Pats have to travel the length of the field to score (which they'd probably do relatively easily) but at least you are giving your team a shot.Instead the Pats go on to win 48-27. Now the only thing that remains is who will get their first lose first, the Pats or Indy? 2007-10-14 18:09:00 For the first time since 1996, the top two teams in the nation lost on the same day. First it was Kentucky upsetting No. 1 LSU in 3OT. This was an amazing game, which came down to Kentucky's defense holding LSU to nothing in the 3OT to pull off the upset.So NO. 2 Cal, was playing their game looking to be the NO. 1 team in the nation. But unranked, Oregon State had different ideas. Oregon State had a 20-14 lead going into the 4th quarter, and was lucky enough to hold on to the 31-28 victory.This season is becoming the season of upsets. People thought for sure LSU and USC were heading for a collision in the national title game. Rutgers was supposed to continue their climb to the football elite, and Michigan was supposed to virtually unstoppable on offense.Now Rutgers is unranked, Michigan was unranked as of Week 2, and both LSU and USC have lost games. Unlike previous meetings, where Notre Dame is usually ranked in the top ten, and Boston College plays the role of the spoiler, this time the roles are reversed. I would love nothing more then for Notre Dame to ruin Boston College's season with a huge upset today. 2007-10-13 18:39:00 The Cleveland Indians did not record a single out for David Ortiz or Manny Ramirez. How are they going to win if they can't get those two guys out once? By the end of the 3rd inning the score was 5-1, and with Josh Beckett pitching everyone knew that was enough. Beckett once again showed his post season dominance. He went 6 innings, giving up only 2 runs and 4 hits, while striking out 7. His counter-part for this game, Cy Young candidate CC Sabathia, didn't pitch as well. He went only 4.1 giving up 8 runs, 7 hits, and walking 5 batters. So how does Cleveland plan on winning this series? For starters I would try getting either Manny or Ortiz out. Ortiz has reached base 16 times this post season, on 18 plate appearances. He has 7 hits, 8 walks, and a hit-by-pitch. Manny has reached base 11 out of his last 12 plate appearances. 2007-10-11 19:40:00 As of yesterday there was something like 8,000 tickets available to the D'backs vs. Rockies NLCS. It just shows how little interest there is in this bout. It also is an indication of just how low the expectations were for both of these ball clubs. The Diamondbacks are probably less of the surprise team here. They have solid pitching, and gutsy hitting...the same kind of combo that helped the Cardinals win the World Series last year. They are a scrappy team. The Rockies may be the beneficiaries of an off season discovery. Before the season, the Rockies ground crew realized that the baseballs in the high altitude would dry out, causing great lift in the ball. Combine this with the light air, and you have a ball that will travel a lot farther then at any other ball park. They decided to humidify the balls up until game day, keeping them nice and moist by the first pitch. Joe Torre is his guy, and if the Yanks want to resign him, they may want to think twice about letting Torre ago. Rivera has said, "I don't see why they're even thinking [about letting Torre go]. I wish he's back, definitely. If you ask me what I would want, I want him back." When asked about how he plans on opting out of his contract, Rivera said, "I'm going to be open to hear all offers...The Yankees had the opportunity and didn't do nothing with it."
