Aston Villa sign Marlon Harewood
2007-07-17 22:04:00
Aston Villa - Harewood Sign s For VillaAston Villa have beaten Wigan Athletic to the signature of West Ham United striker Marlon Harewood. The 27-year-old former Nottingham Forest forward has agreed a three-year deal at Villa Park for an undisclosed fee.The transfer is a coup for Villa boss Martin O'Neill because Harewood was on the verge of joining Wigan when Birmingham side made their move.O'Neill said: "Other teams wanted him but he's prepared to come here and challenge to try and work his way into the team."If he can recapture the form he showed in the two seasons before last, he will definitely be a big asset."West Ham boss Alan Curbishley had told Harewood he had become surplus to requirements at the Boleyn Ground.Villa's arch-rivals Birmingham City reportedly had a bid for Londoner Harewood rejected last month. He scored 56 goals in 178 games for the Hammers after joining them from Forest for £500,000 in November 2003. 16 of those goals came in 2005-06, West Ham's first sea...

Aston Villa - O'Neill to spend £25M

O'NEILL TO SPEND £25MBy Ralph Ellis 15/07/2007 - Sunday Mirrorhttp://www.sundaymirror.co.uk/sport /football/2007/07/15/o-neill-to-spend-25m -98487-19458192/MARTIN O'NEILL aims to splash £25million this week so he can take a star spangled side on Aston Villa 's pre-season trip to the US.He wants to buy Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe and Luke Young before leaving for a two-game tour next Saturday.Owner Randy Lerner has put a top priority on making sure O'Neill completes the line-up he thinks he needs to push for honours.Villa's boss has £10m allocated for Wright-Phillips after learning that his club would be his chosen destination if Chelsea decide to sell.O'Neill believes he can help revive Defoe's England career - and £5m rated Charlton man Young would solve Villa's right-back problem.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Aston Villa to sign big 3?
2007-07-15 13:27:00
Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill is reportedly hoping to sign Shaun Wright-Phillips, Jermain Defoe and Luke Young for a combined £25m.The club's multi-millionaire American owner Randy Lerner is willing to bankroll the former Leicester and Celtic chief's bid to get Villa battling it out for silverware and a European place next season. And the Sunday Mirror claims he will hand him the funds necessary to get the three main targets on board before the club jet out to the US for a pre-season tour.O'Neill is said to be ready to go back in for winger Wright-Phillips and reports claim he will make a £10million bid after the player was told he is free to move on if another club can match Chelsea's valuation. A similar offer could be made to Tottenham for striker Defoe, whose chances of first-team football at White Hart Lane look to have diminished after Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane signed new long-term contracts, while Darren Bent joined from Charlton in a £17million deal.Charlton r...

Hello, sorry for the lack of posts recently but I've been on holiday for most of the last few weeks since the end of season. And here we are, only weeks away from the first game of the 2007/2008 attack on the premiership.Weve lost 7 players and only brought in 1 in Reo Coker - I think that Mr O'Neill is correct and Reo Coker will preove to be an excellent signing, however we need more.Aston Villa travel to USA and Canada in the next 2 weeks and I'm hoping that we can sign up at least 3 more players before the start of the season.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

2007-05-07 23:48:00
What a great day saturday was. I travelled to Villa Park with my family and enjoyed every moment of a fantastic day.I took my dad along to celebrate his birthday. we got to see the European cup winning side of 25 years ago. The sight of the Holte End was amazing as the team of 82 approached with every Villa fan in the ground holding up the proud history, bright future scalves. The game was just a very little bit slow to start but we soon settled and Villa certainly got into their stride. We were a beautiful sight to see. the team played fantastically. It is hard to single people out as we all played so well.Young was fantastic down the right. Gabby and Carew were always a threat. Berger proved again what vision he has. Barry was awesome and semed to cover the entire pitch.Every single villa play was amazing. All 3 Aston Villa goals were wonderful. What a great day at Villa Park.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Aston Villa win away to Man City.
2007-04-30 14:02:00
2 nil against Manchester City with goals coming from John Carew and Shaun Maloney. Another great win away (third in a row). Good Performances all over the pitch from the Aston Villa players and another 3 points in the bag.Im really looking forward to being down at Villa Park this Saturday for the last game for the season at home. I think the atmosphere should be pretty good, and hopefully we'll get a win against Sheffield United. I'm hoping that all the Villa fans lift the roof off and chear the lads on for the full 90 minutes. If we can get into the game from the kick off (not after 10-15 minutes as we have done in some games recently!) Villa should be up for another 3 points.we need a win at home. 2007-04-26 23:38:00
Did you see the change that the younger players had on the game last week? the opposition did not know how to handle us. We increased the tempo and the attacking options. We were a real handful.I like John Carew and I like Berger, but i think we need to start with more pace and youth against Man City. Start with Young , Agbonlahor, Maloney, and Moore, then bring in Carew and Berger for their strength.Martin O'Neill will make up his own mind and we will all see. I want to see a dynamic and creative team. who-ever goes on will do a job but the yound lads can scare themNO FEAR...Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Aston Villa, 3 games to go in 2006/2007
2007-04-26 23:26:00
Here we are, Aston Villa with 3 games to go in the 2006 / 2007 season. Manchester City (away), Sheffield United (home), Bolton (away) remain, and we are 11th in the league on 43 points.Things are not great at Aston Villa, but the future looks bright! Optimism and belief that the future will be better seems just enough to carry us through as fans right now. Is it enough? after a couple of seasons of porr results, are we really happy with where we are right now?Me? i say yes. Martin O'Neill and Randy Lerner are building an Aston Villa for the future. a 3 to 5 year plan that over time will no doubt develop into an ongoing business plan to carry us on for years.Martin O'Neill has worked hard with the team that he inherited from David O'Leary. Some have prospered and some have flagged a little but the team as a whole is better. The dressing room and the belief as a team is better than 12 month ago.3 games to go and all winnable. if we get 4 points i will be pleased. 9 and i will be o...

Aston Villa to off load?
2007-04-25 23:11:00
Martin O'Neill is set to off load up to 10 players in the summer. With Angel already on his way, and the likelyhood that Hendry and other none in favour players to follow! It looks as though O'Neill is about to reduce the wage bill with players that he has not favoured this season, and go on a spending spree with Randy's cash....lets hope so!Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Aston Villa 0 - 0 Portsmouth
2007-04-23 23:44:00
not a bad game and Villa had the best of the ball and all of the chances. Pompey played for the draw, and unfortunately we just could not get the goal.Gabby was amazing, and we played some good football, but portsmouth put everyone behind the ball and the 3 points avoided us. the game changed and our cutting edge was enhanced with the arrival of Yound, Moore, and Maloney - I only wish Martin O'neill had put them on earlier.with 10 minutes to go we looked like a different side with the pace and hunger of these 3. I quite wish we had played them from the start with the option to bring on the recovering Carew and Berger.Oh well, another draw and another point. a slightly empty Villa Park, and here we are again hoping that next season we will press on!!!!We'll see!!!! come on Villa.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Farewell Angel
2007-04-18 19:02:00
New York Red Bulls have completed the signing of Juan Pablo Angel . The Columbian Striker has been with us at Villa for 6 and half years. Had this move come a few years back (2003-2004) I would have been gutted. But, due to injury and inconsistency since his return Angel has never quite reached those heights again of 23 goals per season.Juan Pablo started well this season, and at times it looked as though he was regaining that magic. When every time he was passed the ball he would turn it into a goal scoring opportunity. Unfortunately for Angel it has not happened at Villa this season since the first 8 or so games. There is now a much younger team at Villa Park. Aston Villa as a whole are moving forward and looking up. There looks to be serious investment during the summer, and even with the current squad it would become increasingly difficult for Angel to get a first team game. So, Fare well to Angel. I've always liked him, and I think most Villa fans will agree that no one quite cel...

Aston Villa, get me the points...
2007-04-17 15:25:00
In O'Learys first season at Aston Villa he emphasized the need to the players to get the points. David O'Leary wouldnt consider anything else until the players had gone out there and got at least 40 points, and virtual safety from the drop. Angel went on to have a hell of a season, and Villa went on to push for Europe. We started to believe again, and honestly thought we could win any game. Now obviousl, it didn't last. we followed this up with a poor season and then a much worse season last year reaching an all time low.Martin O'Neill has been on a similar push recently. O'Neill has been working hard with the players on a team and individual basis off the pitch while encouraging them to get the points on the pitch. It seems to be working. we've took 7 points from the last 9, and are unbeaten in 5 games.at this time of the year since Christmas we seem to respond well to the need for points. whether moving away from the drop or pushing for the top - we all know what points make!...

new Aston Villa deal for Gardner?
2007-04-16 15:19:00
it looks as tough Aston Villa manager is now setting his sights on securing a new deal for Craig Gardner after his effort and equalising goal at Middlesbrough on Saturday.I do like the way MArtin O'Neill goes about his business with the team. described as an honest man by the players, O'Neill encourages, coaches, and lets the players know exactly what they have to do to be in the team. "Contribution" to a Villa team that produces performances and hopfully some winnning games and points along the way.Gardner is one such player O'Neill has been impressed with all season. Since losing his place in the team to injury, and the way he has gone about his recovery and biding his time in the reserves, Martin O'Neill has kept a watchful eye on a player he belives to be a professional. O'Neill has taken the same approach with Luke Moore and Stiliyan Petrov of late. letting the know exactly what he neeeds from them, and giving them just enough time to produce. a goal from each player on Sa...

Aston Villa win 3-1 at Middlesbrough
2007-04-14 18:01:00
Here we are approaching the end of the season and for the second week running we come from 1-nil down to win, and this time away to Middle sbrough . Goals from Craig Gardner, Luke Moore and Stiliyan Petrov secure the 3 points.Could it be that John Carew's unfortunate injury timing has shown that we can play without him and that we have other options. Taking forward the results and experience of the last 3 games, it has to look a bright finish to the season and with John Carew on his way back to playing fitness the team can only get better.Seeing Luke Moore on the scoresheet was good as it put us 2-1 up, but to see Petrov scoring also I will be smiling all night. It's a hot day, I'll be cranking up the BBQ later and cracking open some beers to celebrate 7 points from 9.Portsmouth at Villa PArk next sunday. That wil be a testing game as they've played well against Newcastle today, but villa are on the way back and i think we can take them for all 3 points at home.Up the VillaAston V...

2007-04-12 23:34:00
Aston Villa take on Middle sbrough this saturday at 3pm. Wilfred Bouma and Gary Cahill are both fit for the away game, but John Carew is doubtful with a calf injury.I think this could be another 3 points for Villa, and another step closer to certain safety. If we play well in this game and get at least a point, we should be inline for a strong finish to the season.at the very least i think we will get a draw in this game. With Gabby back on form and Berger firing on all cylinders, this could be a bit of a cracker for O'Neills men.Up the Villa.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

Berger or bust?
2007-04-10 00:50:00
Ive liked Patrik Berg er for a long time. I believe him to be a talented football player. OK, he may be in the autumn years of his career but he still has the talent, the fitness, and the time to still do a in the premier league and for Aston Villa. If he is not offered a new contract at Aston Villa it can only be because Martin O'Neill believes that he is about to sign big names during the summer transfer window.Berger has been good for villa and not only since the bust up with O'Neill earlier this season. I admit that i am a fan of Patrik Berger and that i believe that he deserves a contact at Aston Villa for at least another season.if this does not happen, it can only be for one reason alone, and that is that Lerner and O'NEill are planning to spend really big in the summer.I'm Not so convinced. Give Berger a Contract and every time he pulls on the claret and blue shirt he will do his job, and play 100% for Villa.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villa...

Aston Villa 1-1 Wigan
2007-04-10 00:00:00
Wigan went ahead with a Emile Heskey goal, and Villa could possibly have expected to have come away with more when Wigan went down to 10 men when Antonio Valencia was sent off due to that tackle on Wilfred Bouma.Villa enjoyed the majority of the possession and laid on the pressure, but Wigan defended well and the goals didnt come. Early in the second half Gabby Agbonlahor scored again for Aston Villa , but no lead was gained by the home side. When any team is ahead and loses a player, they are bound to sit back and defend. Villa just dont seem to have that depth and quality of side right now to penetrate during this kind of situation.Maybe if we are lucky and Randy Lerner & Martin O'Neill can attract the right players during the summer then next season will be a different story. Villa did well to get back in the game, but should have put the chances away and come away with all 3 points.we had our oppportunities, but the goals and the points just didnt come. Are we safe yet? too soon ...

guts and character. that's how Martin O'Neill put it.After Blackburn went ahead, an equaliser from Patrik Berger and then the winning goal from Gabriel Agbonlahor secured the 3 points for Villa . Martin O'Neill said "today we came from behind. never gave up and went onto a deserved victory in the end."Now we go into another big game at home to Wigan on Monday and another three points would move us a lot closer to safety."with no John carew and with Patrik Berger in the side, we come away with an away win and 3 needed points.Berger must surely deserve a new contract now? he has been excellent in recent weeks and the team is better for having him in it.Aston Villa are in 13th spot with 38 points.Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com or villalotto.blogspot.com

go for the points villa, and prove them wrong
2007-04-05 23:54:00
Aston Villa need momentum. It is something we have had little of because of the way that the fixtures have come at us. The newer members of the team have not had a run in the side where they are playing games week in week out because we?ve had delays and breaks making up most of our time since Christmas. We now have a chance in April and the last 2 games of the season in May to put it right. With little time between games to rest or do too much thinking of what might have been we have to stay on our game, keep putting the boots back on and gain some momentum. We have had no time so far in 2007 to get into any kind of run. Its been a stop stop season since the December. We now have a run of games in quick succession and a time to gain a bit of understanding, confidence and hopefully a few points.Marti O?Neill is calling on the players to respond to certain comments from Alan Pardew in the right way. Do it on the pitch and get us some points and get us some distance away from the bottom...

Gabby Pledge and more...
2007-04-05 01:04:00
Gabby has pledged to be a hit again next season vowing to prove himself in his second season for Villa. So many times you see a player in their first season shine, only to diminish a little in their second. Gabby is fully aware of this and is aiming high next year to replay the faith instilled in him by the Manager Martin O'Neill, the rest of the team and of course the Villa Fans.ME? I hope he does it and i hope he does it in style. I'm praying Villa spend wisely in the summer, but im hoping Gabby is part of the Villa revolution in the 2007/2008 season. Our first goal is survival (which i cannot believe i am even writing!). our second must be creative and effective business during the summer break. Then third, we need a good decent pre-season with Martin O'Neill and his staff in place to prepare the squad for the coming campaign. Fourth? come out fighting and never give up?Gabby should be right in there after a well deserved rest, hopefuly Berger too and a few quality additions wo...

I've been impressed with Patrik Berg er every time he has stepped onto the field in an Aston Villa Shirt. Ive seen him turn dull and boring games into something exciting to watch. Ive seen Patrik Berger come on as a sub during games where neither team has the advantage and neither seems willing to push for it, and spark a revival.I think he deserves at least another season at Villa, and I know that he wants to still show the Villa faithful what he can do. I think MArtin O'Neill will be impressed also with his attitude in recent months, and may offer him a new deal.I'd like to see BErger start the next few games, and we can tehn watch his pride and desire show on the pitch when starting for Aston Villa in the first team. I dont think Berger will last 90 minutes, but i think what ever time he is on the pitch he will contribute 100% and give Villa something special that they have needed recently.Go On O'Neill, give hime a go....Aston Villa Lottery syndicate http://www.VillaLotto.com...
new Villa deal for Gabby
2007-04-03 23:16:00
Gabby Agbonlahor has signed a new deal today that should keep him at Aston Villa until 2011. I think that this is great news for the team and great news for Gabby too.it is good to be securing the services of such a talented player who at only 20 years old and playing in games and at a level that will influence him for years to come, shows massive potential. It has been a big month for Gabby having pledged his future to Aston Villa and England; Played at the new wembley stadium in the first ever game there; and now to have signed a new deal at Villa. Gabby is going to be a future star for Villa and hopefully England.Gabby admitted last week feeling tired after starting so many games this term under Martin O'Neill, and yet got the equalizer last night against Everton, and gaining a much needed point for Villa. It is going to be very interesting over the coming seasons to see how the young players at Villa develop and prgress. Aston Villa 1-1 Everton
2007-04-02 23:22:00
Aston Villa seemed a little hard to get into their stride as the game started; maybe nerves, or maybe just such desire and need to gain much needed points were the issue.Unfortunately for Villa, Joleon Lescott scored in the 15th minute to put Ever ton ahead. Chances in either direction followed but no follow up goal for Everton or come back from Villa.Aston Villa applied plenty of pressure in the second half and finally got the equaliser in the 83rd minute. Gabriel Agbonlahor scoring after another Carew effort had been blocked. The final whistle blew with both teams 1 more point towards their respective goals.
