Cardboard tube dueling
2007-08-27 16:40:00
From Buzzfeed: People battling using cardboard tubes now have an official league. As ridiculous as it sounds, sometimes people who suck at sports feel the need to make up their own. We assume that's how dodgeball was invented. Here are the rules: 1. Don't break your tube. In a duel, the last person with an unbroken tube is declared the winner. 2. No stabbing. Lunges involving tubes are never allowed under any circumstances. 3. Try not to work the face. Hitting people in the face is heavily frowned upon and can force your ejection from the event. 4. Once your tube is broken you must stop fighting. 5. You may not block your opponents tube with your arms, hands or legs. Sadly, I must admit, this looks like fun.

Stand up paddle surfing: Jennifer Aniston enjoys the ride
2007-08-25 14:29:00
We know you investment-banker-adventurer types like to get all bad-ass. You?re taking yoga. You just went shark-hunting with your buddies. You?re letting it all hang loose in those crazy new fit-flops -- you are fierce! What you need now is to go surfing. Oh you say, been there, done that? Well, fine. And it was at the Ritz Carlton -- with instructor. But have you ever stand up paddle surfed? Jennifer Aniston and her BFF, Courtney Cox, have ... in fact, they recently broke away for some stand up paddle surfing down in the Hawaiian Islands. Stand up paddle surfing is an aspect of surfing that has seen a recent resurgence, and with good reason -- it's a lot harder than it looks (and more fun.) For those not familiar with the sport, it entails standing on a large longboard and propelling yourself with essentially a canoe paddle. It is a sport practiced at one time by photographers who didn't want to get wet while photographing other surfers and tourists riding the waves. Recently, i...

JumpSnap: Learning the Ropes
2007-08-24 16:25:00
You gave up jumping rope ages ago - mostly because "the bigger they are, the harder they fall" came into play for those of you with two left feet. Solution: A ropeless jump-rope. Yes, you read right a jump-rope that lacks what many would consider a critical feature: the rope. Jump ropes have obviously come a long way and they aren't just for recess anymore. They have always provided a simple and effective workout on the go, but now JumpSnap loses the rope, leaving two handles with electronic chips and an LCD screen that estimate calories burned, while providing a timer and audible workout summary. It even makes a snapping sound with each rotation so you don't feel entirely silly - and btw jumping rope isn't for wimps, think boxing regimen. While you might not find Sugar Ray jumping without a rope, you will find him endorsing the benefits of it! Jumping rope (also referred to as rope skipping) is a staple in a boxer?s conditioning program. And, it is the cheapest fat-burnin...

Hug Shirt: Amazing Embrace
2007-08-22 15:47:00
Hugging is healthy. It helps the immune system, cures depression, reduces stress and induces sleep. It's invigorating, rejuvenating, and has no unpleasant side effects. Hugging is nothing less than a miracle drug. Not receiving enough hugs? Sure, the blanket-over-the-head trick will do (when you have to hug yourself). But the next time you might want to try this new invention. The Hug Shirt , a high-tech garment that simulates the experience of being embraced by a loved one was recently named by Time Magazine as one of the top inventions of 2006. When a friend sends you a virtual hug, your cell phone notifies the shirt wirelessly, via Bluetooth and then the next thing you know is that the shirt re-creates that person's distinctive cuddle, replicating his or her warmth, pressure, duration and even heartbeat. And, yes, the Hug Shirt is fully washable. Availability: Not yet for sale; due out sometime this year. To learn more visit cutecircuit.com What I want to know is.... do they m...

Frontier Days: The professional rodeo circuit
2007-08-16 21:10:00
My new favorite sport: The Rodeo . Cowboys who are willing to risk their necks for 8 seconds of riding glory and the possibility of prize money is thrilling to watch. Not to mention the thrill of watching someone jump off a horse to wrestle a 600 pound steer to the ground -- the death-defying confrontation between man and beast has made bull riding and the rodeo in general one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Just as spectators flock to a NASCAR race because of its inherent danger, the rodeo possesses a blood-and-guts excitement that sells tickets. However, like most sports, I quickly learned, you have to get to know the players. That means the riders and the animals (which btw are well taken care of) before you can actually enjoy the event or feel the pain. Here's a few photoes (I took over 500) from my recent trip to Cheyenne!

O+: Oxygen in a can
2007-08-13 19:09:00
Ever since you were born, you?ve been breathing oxygen for free, right? Well the masters of mundane marketing agree that it is time for you to adjust your thinking. Yes, you can breathe air for free; but how lame would that be? Naturally occurring oxygen is just so 10,000 years ago. It?s time for you to begin breathing more pure, more refreshing oxygen. Yes,the world's most essential element is making a fashionable comeback. This time, in a can. And Oxygen Plus, a new company, is leading the way by providing 95% pure oxygen-enriched air that is portable, safe, natural and easy to use anywhere, anytime. My husband and I recently tried O+ and felt the immediate effects; but not for long. It won't make you light headed, but it won't make you run faster either. Somewhere in the middle ground between those two extremes lies the benefit gained from the oxygen in Oxygen Plus. In fact, the benefits of a few blasts of O+ may actually be more psychological than genuinely physical, bu...

Nature ride: Concept bike with road kill handle bars
2007-08-06 16:00:00
Let?s face it: too much road kill goes unused and wasted on the side of the highways? So the next time you drive by a large dead animal on the side of the road (one with a nice rack anyway) ... think wooden bicycle. That's what Jenny Nordberg did. Her concept bike was made by putting those throw-away antlers to good use (fortunately that seems to be the only 'road kill' parts on the bike). I?m not sure antlers make for terribly ergonomically-friendly hand grips (ouch!) ... but it looks good, and it makes for great conversation. As manly as it is though, this one's for the girls ... Jenny decorated the seat with a pretty crochet pattern.

PUMA's Train Away kit: for fitness on the run
2007-07-19 18:00:00
Going for a run while away on a trip can seem downright impossible. Let's face it, business travelers and vacationers often find it difficult to exercise while traveling, especially since workout gear takes up unnecessary space and can be a hassle to pack. Most often, even the best intentions result in clothing that's left idle, never making its way out of the suitcase. Puma's Train Away Kit is designed to pack into a compact bundle, and includes a jacket, t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers offering travelers an easier solution. The shirt and shorts are made of lightweight, breathable materials that wick sweat away from the body, and even more innovative is that their sneakers have a slot in the sole for a hotel key card! For runners traveling to a foreign city, Puma's Train Away Kit includes a promo code that can be used on Soundwalk.com. Runners can go to Soundwalk's site, and use their code to view maps and download mp3 running tours.

Vegetarians: Smart (But Still Annoying)
2007-07-13 23:20:00
It?s not like you don?t try. When you and your vegetarian friend get together (everyone?s got one), you smile through adventures in Soyland. Mmmmm, "Fib Ribs", Tofurky jerky and mock lobster. I know it well; but aside from being polite there is another reason to gulp down one of those tasty veggie burgers. It turns out your friend is smarter than you. According to the BBC, it seems that Vegetarians are brainier than the rest of us: A Southampton University team found those who were vegetarian by 30 had recorded five IQ points more on average at the age of 10. Researchers said it could explain why people with higher IQ were healthier as a vegetarian diet was linked to lower heart disease and obesity rates. Lucky for you: It's never to late to change. Start by visiting 101cookbooks.com. Written and photographed by Heidi Swanson, her web sites and cookbooks are not to be missed. This woman makes healthy not only taste good but look good too. Just what we need: More smart, lo...

What's all the fuss with Posh + David Beckham anyway
2007-07-12 04:20:00
By now I'm sure you've all heard that Davi d Beckham and Posh are coming to America! And, in true American style, W Magazine has made an unbelievable spread for us to gawk at. It's all part of a "welcome to America" package we like to offer only to the very beautiful. Because honestly, what has either of them done that warrants such attention? Package includes flashbulbs going off like crazy every step they take, putting on a ridiculous Spice Girls reunion tour for Posh, a new TV show -- also for Posh -- that premieres on NBC (this coming Monday) and hoards of free clothes from the hottest L.A. boutiques (friendship with TomKat not included...that was their own mistake). Let's just hope they can give soccer the same exposure. Does anyone even know that he's playing on Friday?
C-string: the worlds most revealing thong
2007-07-11 17:07:00
Underwear. Can?t live without them. And if you do, frankly, we don?t want to know about it. There are just certain fashion faux pas that are never acceptable: deodorant stains, nude panty hose, and going commando.(Well -- maybe there are times -- but again, that's a secret you need to keep to yourself.) But by following that rule, there?s one fashion don?t that you can't stop avoiding: Visible Panty Lines. Enter: C-String Invisible Underwear -- just when you thought every kind of underwear had already been invented -- these babies were made to wear with outfits that might show a panty line, or even as swimwear so that you don?t get tan lines across your ass. In theory that may sound great, but truthfully I don't think you'll catch me or any other sane woman wearing this wanna be headband to the beach or in the bedroom for that matter! However, with that said, it might actually make a good item for the tanning booth (and that's as far as I go with that.) To learn more, wat...

Get in shape and defy gravity with the Flybar
2007-07-10 15:00:00
It?s that time of year (aside from the current heat wave). The shorts get shorter. The tans gets darker. And your ass gets smaller. Or so you wish. There's still hope. Trade in your Redbull and Lunesta, it's time to put new meaning to your ups and downs. A little 'extreme' for some, but honestly the Flybar is just a high-tech modern version of your old Pogo Stick and it delivers serious fitness benefits. The design isn't radically different; 'er actually it is. It has a lot more oomph. The 13-pound Flybar 800 can bounce four feet high, while the 20-pound Flybar 1200 can soar as high as five feet. Flybar is totally safe and it?s way more fun than what the grown-ups are currently doing. It not only burns calories, but the act of rebounding regularly on a pogo stick can also lower circulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels, assist in the rehabilitation of a heart problem, promote tissue repair, improve balance, increase capacity for respiration and improve muscle-to-f...

iPhone: New fitness device?
2007-06-28 18:19:00
Tomorrow's the big day.Apple will release the iPhone and that's got a lot of people excited ... including the people at LIFT (mainly me!) Why? Well, among its other uses, it's a powerful fitness device. For instance, you can use the iPhone to: 1. Download your workouts (podfitness, iTrain, Cardio Coach, etc.) 2. Talk to your motivators (Traineo) 3. View medical sites and podcasts (webMD and ThatsFit) 4. Map your trail (Gmap-pedometer and mapmyrun) 5. Dial 911 (or call your mother) if you get hurt Sure, you could always do this before on a separate iPod, cell phone, and laptop; but try fitting all that into a pair of running shorts -- or a speedo!Anyway ... that leads me to it's release. Forget all the technical reviews, I expect people to be more fit! At the very least, I expect to see more fit geeks.Maybe that's going a little too far, but there's no denying that it's always easier to stay on track with a gadget like this right in your pocket! Itambe yogurt ads causing a stir
2007-06-26 01:46:00
New yogurt ads from Brazil have stirred up a swirl of controversy. Itambé fit light yogurt - recreated classic movie scenes featuring 'larger' ladies - in place of Sharon Stone in 'Basic Instinct', Marilyn Monroe in 'The Seven Year Itch', and Mena Suvari in 'American Beauty' - The tag line reads: "Forget about it. Men's preference will never change." (Insinuating that men only like thin women.) Ironically, you might interpret the ad differently at first glance ... "Eating our yogurt will make you fat, beautiful and happy!" - Regardless of size, the women look great. View Ads: Got-ads
