Focus on world peace and forget about these...

5 Things women can't change about their bodies 1. Your Knees: Knobby? Knock-Kneed? Rather than focus on bones and tendons you can't change, target muscley places you can tweak, such as your calves and thighs. 2. Your Breast Size: Certain exercises - and maybe having a baby - can give you a little more lift or cleavage, but you can't trade up a cup (or more) without surgical assistance. 3. Your lips: Unless you're willing to subject yourself to needles and cosmetic fillers, your best lip upgrade is a little gloss and a smile. 4. Your overall body type: You're going to look better if you work with your shape rather than try to make it into someone else's. Don't try to get Gisele's body if you are 5'1"... she is 5'11". 5. The width of your hips: If you've got extra padding, that's one thing. But if you inherited your mother's curvy hips, embrace them, because they're here to stay.

Athletic Minded Traveler: Live Well
2007-05-06 21:38:00
The bad news: You?re beat, you have the cosmic weekend hangover from hell, and you can see nothing ahead of you but work, work, work. The good news: It?s travel season. What better excuse to make your next vacation the tear-into-your-savings, let-me-play-hard kind? Sure, there?s the tried and true, like Canyon Ranch, Golden Door, and Rancho La Puerta ? But what about something a little more fitness oriented or something off the beaten path? Perhaps something more adventurous? Forget the 100 square foot room that hotels actually try to pass off as a gym. Athletic MindedTraveler.com offers first-hand recommendations on the best places to stay and exercise across the country with new cities (including international destinations), healthy and athletic-minded dining options, running route maps that can be printed or downloaded into an ipod, local retailers and more!. Really, don?t hold back: When the personal trainer comes calling, where would you like to be?

2. Your Calves
2007-05-06 19:10:00
The two to four inches of leg just below the back of your knee tends to be one of the most difficult areas to develop for women; but with consistant training beautifully shaped calves can be achieved. Jim Ryno's favorite move is the Stability Ball Calf Raise. Stand with your feet hip width apart lean your chest against the ball (which has been placed on a wall)... Your toes should be pointing forward. Contract your calves by pushing off the balls of your feet to raise heels up in air (standing on toes.) Lower heels and repeat. Remember to keep knees slightly bent throughout movement to prevent any knee strain. This exercise can also be done lying down on the ball with your feet shoulder width apart. With the stability ball under your chest, contract your calves so that you roll on the ball until it is almost under your stomach.
5 Great Fitness Gifts for Mother's Day
2007-05-03 14:45:00
Mothers. So damn needy aren't they? Of course, now?s not really the time to complain. Rather, it?s the time to fulfill those needs to the best of your ability. And, for those of you keeping track, it's one week from this coming Sunday. Remember... Mom taught you absolutely everything you know. So this year, give her a gift that proves you?ve finally, after all that back-talk and sass, absorbed her lessons about living healthy and staying fit -- try not to give her another box of chocolates. 1. Hire a trainer or life coach to help mom reach her goals. 2. Pick up a pair of cool sneakers and some new sportswear to look great in. You always feel good in new clothes and are excited to show them off -- whether at the gym or when going for a walk. 3. Treat her feet. Consider getting your mom a foot massage, foot reflexology, or a relaxing pedicure. People pay so little attention to their feet and they are always cramped in shoes. 4. Deal a meal. Whether she's trying to shed weigh...

1: The Curve of Your Waist
2007-05-02 20:04:00
If you're more straight-up-and-down than hourglass, the right moves can give you a sexy, nipped-in shape--even if you never achieve flat abs. The key is to target your oblique muscles, which pinch in your waist, says Jim Ryno, personal trainer for Podfitness.com. Try the side plank every other day: Lie on left side with legs and feet on top of each other, prop body up on left forearm, place right hand on hip and, keeping your legs straight, lift hips eight to 12 inches off the floor. Hold for 20 seconds, lower and repeat if you can. Switch sides. You should see curves in about three weeks. Photo: Self

Ping Pong: PUMA Table Tennis Tournament
2007-05-01 21:37:00
Be A Sport Strange that looking sporty is considered a good thing when most fashionable people wouldn?t be caught dead in a football jersey. Exception? Tennis . All those flouncy skirts, cool shorts, matching tops, and jazzy sneaks from PUMA's French 77 collection are enough to lure even the laziest of potatoes off the couch. Now there?s one more reason to suit up: Ping Pong (tennis' dorky cousin) has grown up. Aruliden, a New York design company, has designed a paddle and ball case (worthy of any design award), making Ping Pong more than cool again. The PT3 Ultramagnetic Collection, built to hold a single paddle, comes in white or black. For extra protection it's surrounded by a thin layer of foam and the outside is hard plastic with a high gloss finish; the ball case is just as cool. Sorry guys, the design is a limited edition built exclusively for the PUMA Tabl e Tennis Tournament, so you'll have to try and improve your fashion on and off the courts without it.

Violight: Germ Free
2007-04-29 01:19:00
There?s something really, really gross in your bathroom. Even worse; you put it in your mouth. It?s your toothbrush, and, I hate to tell you, but it really ought to be cleaner. It can be ? with the help of Viol ight, a cool toothbrush sanitizer designed by Philippe Starck that's been around now for over a year or two (what have you been waiting for?). In September, 2000, the U.S. Surgeon General released a report directly linking oral hygiene to general health. So if you're sick, you might want to check your toothbrush. A single toothbrush can harbor millions of microorganisms that translate into harmful bacteria. Using UV rays, the Violight purports to kill 99.9 percent of that nastiness that is currently infesting your scrubby little friend. Just drop it in head down, and let the sleek receptacle do its work. For ten minutes it glows a soothing shade of blue and then automatically shuts itself off. So much cooler than the germy cup you now keep your toothbrush in. Always ...

Easy Rider: Trek Lime
2007-04-24 19:29:00
May is National Bike Month and you're still not fit. Isn't time you did something about that? Rider or not, the Trek 's new LIME is for you. It seems to be the coolest retro two-wheeler around. Unlike a vintage bike, whose single gear and uncomfortable seat make cruisin? a bruisin? (literally), LIME lets you put the pedal to the metal pleasurably with a smooth automatic shifting system (yes, three gears and automatic shifting), and a larger than normal seat (complete with trunk) with plenty of room for your big bum. Even better, you can customize your ride with a Peelz Kit and they come in the grooviest colors ? lime green, cobalt blue, red, baby blue, black and pink. Need more? Be seen and heard with some shiny chrome fenders and a matching colored bell to let them know you're coming. So what are you waiting for? This year getting your bum in shape should be as easy as riding a ? Well, you know. Via: Notcot

There?s nothing in that 1000 calorie-filled-with-fat-and-sugar-milksha ke from your favorite fast food restaurant that's even remotely good for you. Invest in your Health

You'll save bucks and help fight obesity while you and your family get fit if Congress approves the Personal Heal th Invest ment Today (PHIT) act. The bill will allow Americans with a Health Savings Account (HSA) to use up to $1000 pretax dollars a year to pay for gym memberships, fitness equipment and sports-leauge fees. Depending on your income, you could save up to $350 a year. It's a very important step in the right direction and that's why we're supporting Fitness magazine's campaign to encourage Congress to approve the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) act. Surfs Up
2007-04-20 20:36:00
One of the greatest things about the sport of surfing is that you need only three things: your body, a surf-board, and a wave. What, you say? Not true. This season (because you are competitive), there is one more object needed: The 2007 Quiksilver desktop tide gauge. Loaded with features this badboy gives you: * 15 years of pre-programmed tide data (incase you have nothing else to do over the next 15 years, I know you're out there) and sunrise/sunset times for 300 spots around the world. * 24 hour high-resolution graphic display of tide movement * Digital reading of tide height measured in feet, meters, or coefficient * Dual Time, Dual Alarm, Countdown Timer * Surf Heat Timer and Wave Counter (by the way... what is all this stuff) It comes with several mounting options like a desktop stand, metal carabiner and a car vent clip. And, honestly if you're that obsessed with having all this information you might as well get more than one to keep in each location.

Freeline Skates: Who doesn't want a slick set of wheels
2007-04-20 17:49:00
Sure, the ubiquitous skateboard is fun. But really, how cool can you look rolling along the sidewalk? Especially when it?s right next to the twenty other guys doing the, well, exact same thing? People, we don?t know how else to phrase it: Get yourself a different skateboard. Try Freeline. Freeline Skat es are effectively two independent skates connected by the body. Yes, the body. So basically, if you are not coordinated... do not try this at home! The red ones are the coolest and, if you can learn how to skate on these you will definitely kick some skateboard ass. Need further inspiration? Freeline has joined the Product(Red) campaign. They?re dedicating $15 per package of ?Our Red? version Freeline Skates towards helping orphans in Africa. If nothing else... Cohndom: The Condom Box

Seat belts? Check. Locks on your front door? Of course. An extra pack of altoids at your desk in case of garlic-just-before-your-hot-date scenario? Well, duh. For you, life?s never been about opting out ? but it is about backing yourself up. And that?s exactly the idea behind Alessi's condom box; this little metal box keeps your condom safe and crush-free in your pocket or wallet. Talk about safe sex. It could probably even stop bullets (the box, not the condom), making you safe on all fronts. Because, hey, sometimes you?ve got to play it safe before you can play at all.

The Fruit Ring: Hang your fruit on the wall
2007-04-17 18:40:00
Woe is the postmodern parent. You?ll do anything to protect your pumpkin from chemicals and junk. And, even more when it comes to keeping your kids off your counters. But once again, you find yourself inching down that slippery slope. The one known as Design Sacrificed in the Name of Your Kids. At its bottom? A landfill?s worth of ugly stuff. Solution: The Fruit Ring by Joung Myung Lee. Compact and graceful, the spanking-new, ultra-sleek Fruit Ring is remarkably cool and fresh looking. This art meets design concept is one fruitbowl that babes and toddlers will lap up like candy; making you feel oh so worthy. And, hanging on your wall it looks just as cool with or without kids. Unfortunately, The Fruit Ring is just a concept. Giving us something to chew on. Via: Notcot.org

Rock Stars or Fitness Gurus
2007-04-16 20:37:00
Are today's fitness gurus trading spirutuality for celebrity? An article I recently found (about Yogi's in particular) in the Los Angeles Times explores that question. Writer Jenny Hontz notes that "In this era of insatiable celebrity obsession, it seems anything stars do and anyone they touch also become famous. Yogis are no exception, and Los Angeles is the nexus of the two. As they live it up, though, some teachers wonder whether yoga has become so commercial ? and so popular among the elite ? that it has lost its soul." Does the commercialization of yoga have to come at the expense of a good om? Or can the third eye prevail over the massive amounts of bacon these yogis are bringing home (veganism notwithstanding)? According to the article a popular teacher in LA averages as much as $300,000 a year. Remind me again why I'm blogging about fitness and not teaching it.

Kids FitDeck Cards: A Super Gift
2007-04-16 19:09:00
Kids are more obese than ever and Super man is super cool. So I can't help but absolutely love the idea of these FitDeck exercise flash cards for kids... more importantly for my kids! They are a colorfully packaged card deck (which my boys more than approved of) that includes 50 exercise cards, four instructional and two stretching flashcards, accompanied by a game and activities workbook. Each flashcard features illustrations and instructions describing a different exercise. It?s a novel product, targeted toward children ages 4 to 16. After all, what kid wouldn?t want to work out with the big guy sporting the ?S? on his chest? ?Superman?s greatest enemy is no longer Lex Luthor. It?s childhood obesity,? says the former Navy SEAL officer and certified personal trainer. As the founder of FitDeck, Inc., a company that produces exercise products for all ages, Black is committed to inspiring children to ?get off the couch, away from the computer, and start exercising again,? he says. My Pet Fat

With every indulgent bite you took this Easter Sunday, you told yourself you'd really get serious about fitness before the summer. Remember the ham and trimmings, Easter candy, peeps and mixed drinks? Now you're starting to feel it ? and see it. So what's the plan? Instead of dropping cash on equipment you'll never use or classes you'll never attend, try a more can-do approach. My Pet Fat from Jay Jacobs is a practical way to keep your second round of resolutions. Created by a once morbidly obese man who understood how hard it is to stick to a workout program and/or diet, My Pet Fat is essentially a reminder of what you are or what you will be if you keep eating those Big Macs, Whoppers and Cinnabons. Overtime and through repetition it's conditioning will help you to make better choices, moment to moment, day by day. Take it along with you to the gym to stay focused, or work out at home with it, bring it to lunch... and by the way, these babies are anatomically correct replica...

Domestic Adventures in Wall Climbing

Oh,you know the type. You see them out all the time. You know, the one's who seems to have it all? Impeccable taste in clothing, killer shoes, a sweet apartment, and oh, that beautifully sculpted body. How the heck do they do it? They climb. No, not just in business, but also at the gym. And even though rocking climbing isn't usually associated with executives, I've found something appropriate for all you suits. All I have to say is that if you're not the outdoorsy type (and most suits aren't), maybe picture frames, mirrors, bird cages and flower vases may make you feel more at home! Tokyo's Illoiha fitness center has an Omotesando-style climbing wall for those who seek domestic adventures with a touch of class. It may not be in keeping with the current culture of getting back to nature. But it?s definitely a new take on moving up. Source: Core77

Losing Weight Can Cost You
2007-04-09 23:01:00
Assuming you've already decided that the money-saving "eat less" method won't work for you: How much will it cost to lose 30 lbs? Bankrate checked out five diet programs and calculated the total cost based on losing the recommended healthy amount of weight per week: ? Jenny Craig: $399 with a payment plan or $358 upfront, not including food. ? LA Weight Loss: Calculating the cost with a setup fee of $174 and $7 per week charge, the total cost of the plan is $685 for 73 weeks, not including the cost of food and L A Lite bars. ? NutriSystem: $1,174.88, including all food, except fresh greens and dairy. ? Weight Watchers: The total cost is between $214.80 and $299.80, depending on location, not including food. ? The Zone Diet: $3,599.10 to $4,798.80 including all food. Low carb. Low fat. Low energy. A low-down, dirty drag. I still like the eat less (and eat REAL) method, but to each his own!

Toy Story: Flybar

It?s that time of year (aside from the freeze). The shorts get shorter. The tans gets darker. And your ass gets smaller. Or so you wish. There's still hope. Trade in your Redbull and Lunesta, it's time to put new meaning to your ups and downs. A little 'extreme' for some, but honestly the Flybar is just a high-tech modern version of your old Pogo Stick and it delivers serious fitness benefits. The design isn't radically different; 'er actually it is. It has a lot more oomph. The 13-pound Flybar 800 can bounce four feet high, while the 20-pound Flybar 1200 can soar as high as five feet. Flybar is totally safe and it?s way more fun than what the grown-ups are currently doing. It not only burns calories, but the act of rebounding regularly on a pogo stick can also lower circulating cholesterol and triglyceride levels, assist in the rehabilitation of a heart problem, promote tissue repair, improve balance, increase capacity for respiration and improve muscle-to-fat ratio. ...

George Bush: A Presidential Exercise

Say what you will about George W. Bush , but the man does a serious workout. Here is something I recently stumbled upon, and would like to pass to our 40-plus male audience. If you are looking for a regiment of nutritional supplements, take example from our President . If there is something we can agree to about the "smirking chimp", it is his excellent physical shape. President Bush turned 60 years old last October and his health is in the "superior" fitness category for men his age -- greater than 99% percentile! The latest health results make Bush the "most-fit" president in modern history. He has not had a sick day in the past year -- and he works out 6 days a week: Workouts include bicycling (15-20 miles, 15-18mph), treadmill (low impact "hill-work"), elliptical trainer, free weight resistance training, and stretching. The President takes a daily multi-vitamin, low-dose aspirin, glucosamine/chondroitin, and an omega 3 supplement. C'mon, go ahead and take example from the Preside...
