Yawn ? Brady wins AFC Offensive Player of the Week award
2011-09-21 21:34:00
Tom Brady has done it again. He has been honored for the second straight week as AFC Offensive Player of the Week . Here is story from the team. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Brady could win 16 of these this season but they won’t win the Super Bowl unless the defense ...

2011-09-21 16:55:00
By about 11 p.m. tonight we should know what will happen to the Boston Red Sox over the next week or so. We will have a good idea if this mess we’ve been witnessing will probably follow this team until the season ends next Wednesday or the Red Sox will be able to coast into ...

Ex-Sox GM Lou Gorman passes away
2011-04-01 19:47:00
I’m a little melancholy hearing the news that former Red Sox GM Lou Gorman passed away earlier today. I say this without hesitation: He is one of the nice people in sports that I have ever met. A few years ago, he came to the area to speak to a men’s group — Theology on ...
Why did Da Costa leave? ? 3.75 million reasons
2011-03-31 19:52:00
If anybody out there in Merrimack College hockey land is wondering why Stephane Da Costa would leave the school after his sophomore season, I’ve got the answer: He just signed for some big cash. While it appears he will get about $900,000 per season, if you include reachable bonuses that doubles that figure. Here was ...

We reported in a few hours ago, now it’s official. Here is quick story from Ottawa Sun: The Senators have won the Stephane Da Costa sweepstakes. The team announced Thursday that it has signed the Merrimack College star to a two-year, entry-level contract. It’s believed most, if not all NHL clubs were interested in the ...

Buck Showalter was right ? on both accounts
2011-03-24 17:19:00
Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter is taking a lot of heat around here and the New York area for his comments about Derek Jeter and Theo Epstein. Here were the quotes … On Jeter: “Our guys are thinking, ‘Wow, (Buck is) screaming at Derek Jeter.’ Well, (Jeter is) always jumping back from balls just off ...

10 observations from C?s-Heat opener
2010-10-27 17:11:00
Here are some overservations from last night’s opener at the TD Garden: 1. Celtics defense never rests. Congrats to new assistant coach Lawrence Frank, the new Celtics “defensive coordinator.” Last night’s game was won on the backs of the defense, that appeared to be in mid-season form. Celtics players have bought into defense winning championships. That is ...

I would try to sign Derek Jeter
2010-10-23 23:17:00
Derek Jeter will be a free agent in less than a month — 15 days after the World Series ends. If you were Theo Epstein would you entertain the notion of “attempting” to sign Derek Jeter? If I were Theo? Hell ya. Call me crazy. He will turn 37 in June, but let’s be honest. He looks like he ...

Favre MUST be suspended
2010-10-21 20:09:00
Only Brett Favre could get away, virtually, with what he did, which was send pathetic pictures of himself to a N.Y. Jets employee. I was waiting for him (or his wife) to apologize or claim innocence. They’ve done neither, other than Mrs. Favre saying “faith” will get her and Brett through this. Why give a bad ...
Cross Ravens off your Super Bowl list
2010-10-18 20:12:00
I have come to the conclusion, 24 hours later, the Baltimore Ravens are frauds. Yeah, they’re tough. Yeah, they can run the ball. Yeah, they were missing my second favorite NFL player Ed Reed (Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu is No. 1). And yeah, appear to have the run-pass balance needed to win in this league. But upon further ...

Quick thoughts on Pats-Ravens game
2010-10-17 18:49:00
I believe the Patriots play a great game today, on both sides of the ball. It could be argued that the Ravens are more talented, top to bottom, especially on defense. I like the Patriots today because I believe they are one team that can move the ball on this defense. By movin the ball, ...

Yankees can and will be beaten
2010-10-15 17:10:00
Betting against the Yankees is a losing venture. So I wouldn’t push that mode of thinking. But I believe the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies are two teams that can and one of them will beat the Yankees this post-season. The one thing I that the Rangers and Phillies have that the Rays didn’t have, is a ...
Cliff Lee should be role model for Francona and Lester
2010-10-13 15:47:00
I’m just guessing here, but if put in a similar situation that Texas manager Ron Washington and Cliff Lee were in last night, Red Sox manager Terry Francona would have told Jon Lester he was done after eight innings, leading 5-1, and Jonathan Papelbon would finish the job. And that would have been a mistake. Let’s get ...

Bruschi on Moss departure
2010-10-06 20:24:00
Former Patriot and current ESPN NFL commentator Tedy Bruschi answered a few questions relating to the Randy Moss trade. Here the questions and his answers: On Moss? impact in New England? ?I?ve never seen a wide receiver do the things that he?s been able to do before. We wanted so badly to win a Super Bowl in ...
Too many mistakes, and yeah, the Jets are pretty good ?
2009-09-20 22:07:00
The Jets defense simply took over the second half. Great day to be wearing green. Pats simply have a lot of holes to fill. And Brady and Moss can’t answer all of them. Moss was non-existent. The loss of Welker really, really, really stung.

Give the kid credit, Sanchez looks good
2009-09-20 21:32:00
Now we know why Pete Carroll wanted Mark Sanchez to stick around at USC. The kid is pretty darn good. He makes all the right reads, shows nice composure under fire, and has a strong arm with touch. Jets lead now, 16-9 with 9:48 left.

Just an A+ third quarter for the New Yorkers ?
2009-09-20 21:24:00
The Jets throw up a 10-0 third quarter, possess the ball for 10 of the 15 minutes and rest their defense for the stretch run. A bemused New England defense needs a stop now.
When is the last time you saw ?
2009-09-20 21:16:00
A pair of back-to-back delay of game penalties cost the Pats point. It happens, and the Pats, in field goal range are forced to punt. Talk about un-Patriotic. 13-9 Jets with 3 minutes left into the third.

Depends on what side you see from ?
2009-09-20 21:04:00
Dreadful out of the gate start by the Pats in the second half, giving up 10 straight points …. but …… A courageous stand with the Jets inside the 10, thwarts some momentum with just a field goal. Big chunk of rest for what has to be a fading NYJ defense. Time for the Pats to take advantage.

Halftime observations ?. Pat lead 9-3.
2009-09-20 20:26:00
1. The hurry-up has to be gassing the Jets. 2. The Litto Sheppard injury (questionable, leg) really hurts this Jets defensive scheme, which has the corners playing bump and run … 3. There’s a reason Bill Belichick didn’t panic as Greg Lewis failed miserably and Joey Galloway continues to underachieve. That reason is, Julian Edelman. Kid’s a ...

Pats in charge early ?
2009-09-20 19:56:00
Jets really have no defensive answer for the New England hurry-up And the Jets can’t do a thing on offense. Still, it’s only a pair of field goals, and the Pats lead. 6-0. Interesting here, the Jets look confused. Trying to run the football, the Pats are stout tackle-to-tackle. It’s sound thought, go right at Gary Guyton, ...

Just over 8 minutes in ?
2009-09-20 19:33:00
Three quick observations as the Pats lead, 3-0. 1. The Jets look horrific offensively. A turnover, another awful fumble and a confused attack. 2. The Pats can’t block anyone right now. 3. When Moss is split left, the defense shifts over and leaves a weakness to the offensive left. Watch Fred Taylor look to exploit that.

Interesting opening possession
2009-09-20 19:10:00
Pats go hurry-up, with one back and Edelman the Welker spot. Why go hurry-up with this defense, I’m not sure. The Jets stiffen, force a punt and Chris Hanson can’t lock them down. Now the focus shifts to the Pats linebackers. Gary Guyoton in the middlof the 4-3.
