Too many mistakes, and yeah, the Jets are pretty good ?
2009-09-20 22:07:00
The Jets defense simply took over the second half. Great day to be wearing green. Pats simply have a lot of holes to fill. And Brady and Moss can’t answer all of them. Moss was non-existent. The loss of Welker really, really, really stung.

Give the kid credit, Sanchez looks good
2009-09-20 21:32:00
Now we know why Pete Carroll wanted Mark Sanchez to stick around at USC. The kid is pretty darn good. He makes all the right reads, shows nice composure under fire, and has a strong arm with touch. Jets lead now, 16-9 with 9:48 left.

Just an A+ third quarter for the New Yorkers ?
2009-09-20 21:24:00
The Jets throw up a 10-0 third quarter, possess the ball for 10 of the 15 minutes and rest their defense for the stretch run. A bemused New England defense needs a stop now.
When is the last time you saw ?
2009-09-20 21:16:00
A pair of back-to-back delay of game penalties cost the Pats point. It happens, and the Pats, in field goal range are forced to punt. Talk about un-Patriotic. 13-9 Jets with 3 minutes left into the third.

Depends on what side you see from ?
2009-09-20 21:04:00
Dreadful out of the gate start by the Pats in the second half, giving up 10 straight points …. but …… A courageous stand with the Jets inside the 10, thwarts some momentum with just a field goal. Big chunk of rest for what has to be a fading NYJ defense. Time for the Pats to take advantage.

Halftime observations ?. Pat lead 9-3.
2009-09-20 20:26:00
1. The hurry-up has to be gassing the Jets. 2. The Litto Sheppard injury (questionable, leg) really hurts this Jets defensive scheme, which has the corners playing bump and run … 3. There’s a reason Bill Belichick didn’t panic as Greg Lewis failed miserably and Joey Galloway continues to underachieve. That reason is, Julian Edelman. Kid’s a ...

Pats in charge early ?
2009-09-20 19:56:00
Jets really have no defensive answer for the New England hurry-up And the Jets can’t do a thing on offense. Still, it’s only a pair of field goals, and the Pats lead. 6-0. Interesting here, the Jets look confused. Trying to run the football, the Pats are stout tackle-to-tackle. It’s sound thought, go right at Gary Guyton, ...

Just over 8 minutes in ?
2009-09-20 19:33:00
Three quick observations as the Pats lead, 3-0. 1. The Jets look horrific offensively. A turnover, another awful fumble and a confused attack. 2. The Pats can’t block anyone right now. 3. When Moss is split left, the defense shifts over and leaves a weakness to the offensive left. Watch Fred Taylor look to exploit that.

Interesting opening possession
2009-09-20 19:10:00
Pats go hurry-up, with one back and Edelman the Welker spot. Why go hurry-up with this defense, I’m not sure. The Jets stiffen, force a punt and Chris Hanson can’t lock them down. Now the focus shifts to the Pats linebackers. Gary Guyoton in the middlof the 4-3.

Celts in 4 or 5? It could happen
2008-06-10 16:08:00
In my opinion, the Lakers, or really the Western Conference, are fakers. They are good. I will give them that with Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol. The problem is the Celtics are very good, maybe even great (I am leaning toward very good). The problem is the Celtics are focused more on the prize. It means more ...

Here is the transcript from his press conference before tonight’s game: THE MODERATOR: Thanks, everyone, for coming. The commissioner will open with some opening statements and then we’ll take questions. COMMISSIONER DAVID STERN: My opening statements will be short. There’s nothing that you haven’t heard before. We’re coming off what we think is one of our best ...

Game 2 running … Part 2
2008-06-09 04:28:00
Sam Cassell injured his wrist, with reports calling it a sprain. He is expected to return. *** The Celtics lead at the half, 54-42. A few keys: *Kobe Bryant got his third foul with 1:53 remaining the half. *Celtics Leon Powe scored eight points in seven minutes, getting nine foul shots. *The Lakers definitely brought more grit to Game 2. They ...

Game 2 running
2008-06-09 03:51:00
The Celtics outscored the Lakers 10-0 in the first 2:20 of the second quarter capped by a Paul Pierce 3-pointer to lead 30-22. The Lakers subs were in for the run. After the timeout, Kobe Bryant and Lamar Odom returned. Bryant, of course, ended the drought with a 20-foot fallaway jumper. **** Some celebs in attendance: Sox pitchers ...

Game 2: Pierce, Perkins appear healthy
2008-06-09 03:43:00
It’s early, only seven minutes into the game, but both Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins are not hampered by their injuries (Pierce knee, Perkins ankle). Pierce took the ball to the basket on three occasions as well as hitting a 3-pointer from 26 feet away on the left side. *** The Lakers are definitely more aggressive in the ...

I just arrived and while the hoopla is down about two decibels outside the TD Banknorth Garden, it still feels like something special is about to happen. Celtics in 6
2008-06-05 03:56:00
I don’t think the Lakers know what they’re getting into here. I believe Phil Jackson believes his nine championships will somehow rub off on his team, which is a very good team, and lead them to an NBA title. I don’t see it. I have a story going in tomorrow’s Eagle-Tribune, with 10 reasons why I think the ...

Michael Curry to be named Pistons coach on Friday

The Pistons apparently will not waste any time replacing their head coaching vacancy (Flip Saunders was fired on Monday). Assistant Michael Curry is expected to be named the new head coach on Friday . The announcement is reportedly being withheld until the first game of the NBA Finals is played tomorrow night at the TD Banknorth Garden. The only ...

It’s official: Celts vs. Lakers … again
2008-05-31 06:02:00
Give the Celtics credit. They are playing their best basketball when it counts the most. The fact that they held the Pistons to 81 points, in Detroit, says it all. The Celtics were fantastic last night. Even though they fell behind, 70-60, you sort of knew it wasn’t over over yet. Well, the Celtics outscored the Pistons ...

Red Sox rumor: Masterson may pitch on Tuesday
2008-05-31 05:45:00

In two major league starts Masterson is 1-0 over 12-innings with 9Ks and a 1.46 ERA. He has allowed only two runs. In Masterson’s first ...

5 reasons C’s will win Friday night
2008-05-29 21:33:00
As I noted in my column today, in my opinion, Ray Allen has changed everything. The Celtics have limped throught the playoffs, basically winning at home, because Allen hasn’t been that good. I believe it bodes well for tomorrow night in Detroit. Here are my five reasons why I think the Celtics will win in 6, surprising ...

Game 5 running II
2008-05-29 03:48:00
It appears Sam Cassell has played his final minutes of this series. The defense and pace is too much. He was yanked immediately after less than two minutes into the second quarter (the only two minutes he played) after losing the ball to Lindsey Hunter, leading to a dunk. This came right after another Detroit ...

Game 5 … running
2008-05-29 02:51:00
A few early notes: The Pistons are going out of their way to get Chauney Billups going. He scored the first hoop on a short jumper and missed another a minute later. He also made a 3-pointer after a timeout and Pistons trailing 10-5. *** Celtics are working the ball down low to Kendrick Perkins. He has four ...

Cs-Pistons Game 5: pregame notes … Tony Allen out
2008-05-29 02:33:00
There is a surprise on the Celtics inactives tonight. Tony Allen won’t be dressing. He will be replaced by Brian Scalabrine. It will be Scalabrine’s first playoff game if he plays. Also joining Allen on the inactives is Scot Pollard and Gabe Pruitt. Callahan refereed Game 4 in Atlanta (Celts lost 97-92). Mauer refereed Game 7 ...

I’m here … and ready
2008-05-29 00:51:00
Sorry, I had to leave my seat because the Celtics had a “private” walk-through from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Using my Matt Walsh skills I noticed the Celtics worked on a lot of defense. My guess is it won’t help the Pistons that much. And I promise I didn’t tape it. As for the game, let ...
