Open Thread: 2008 NFL Draft, The St. Louis Rams are on the clock...
2008-04-26 16:52:00
...UPDATE... The FIRST ROUND IS COMPLETE!!!!! You gotta love the draft and the anticipation, there's nothing like it What: 2008 NFL Draft Where: Radio City Music Hall, New York When: 3:00PM Est Time (Rounds 1 & 2) Here we are, its FINALLY Draft Day!! I have no clue what todays events will bring. All I can say is I hope the Bucs inject speed and athleticism into this offense whether it be through the first, second, or third rounds. I've got my fingers crossed for a DJax or Jenkins Drafting, but to be honest, so long as we get a burner, i don't care if it comes in the form of a DJax, Donnie Avery (thanks PR), Devin Thomas, what have you. I'll be thoroughly disappointed if we don't get some electricity for the offense, because this draft allows for that beyond the 1st round... At any rate, hold on tight because we're in store for a loooong day!!! It could be three hours before the Bucs make that first selection!! SBNation Mock Draft: Are we smarter than the average Dr...

Bucs Buzz: Lito Shephard Trade, Madden Cover, Defensive Ends, and Mock Draf
2008-04-25 02:23:00
There's rumors flying around the net about the Eagles and Bucs possibly getting together (yesterday) in order to put CB Lito Sheppard in Red and Pewter.. The RUMOR has been confirmed as truth by FoxSports Jay Glazer, "FOXSports.com has learned that Sheppard was in Tampa on Wednesday to visit with the Buccaneers, who have emerged as the frontrunner for the two-time Pro Bowler, and is likely to be traded by Saturday. It appears it will take a second-round pick plus and additional pick or player to get the deal done." - Jay Glazer of Fox Sports Well there you have it.. With Buchanon, Sheppard, and Wilson it would eliminate the Bucs need to draft a CB.. hmm My guess is that will never happen. #1 the Eagles have offered Lito to the Cardinals for Anquan Boldin, do you see any Boldin caliber athletes on our squad? I didnt think so. #2 Lito hasnt been the healthiest Cornerback over his 6 year NFL career. That's one of the main reasons Brian Kelly was allowed to find greener pastures.....

From Pick #20 to Pick #145: Who the Bucs may look to add from the NFL Draft
2008-04-24 13:47:00
I said back in May I wanted to give this community an idea of the players the Bucs would target in this weekends upcoming NFL Draft ... By clicking here you can see the list of players the Bucs have been rumored to be interested in. I wanted us to have a decent clue as to who the Bucs could pursue, seeing how last off-seasons draft was a complete unknown just about talent wise. It's comical to think we could even remotely know who the Bucs could pursue, but here's my weak attempt at keeping us in the fold: 1st Round Pick (20th Overall) Fan Prediction: WR DeSean Jackson - Bucs Reality: I honestly have no idea (QB, WR, CB, OT) your guess is as good as mine... Potential 1st Round Picks: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville, 6'4, 226 Brohm was a highly touted recruit and has not disappointed. Displays patience and is willing to stand in and take hits if necessary. Has a fairly quick release and stays balanced when he throws. Has a high release point and also displays good foo...
NFL Buzz: Jared Allen, Shaun Alexander, Jason Taylor, and Anquan Boldin
2008-04-24 04:10:00
Couple note worthy items (not worthy of individual posts): The Minnesota Vikings have officially acquired Kansas City Chiefs drunk DE Jared Allen. The Bounty: (1) 1st Round Pick, (2) Third Round Picks, and a swap of 6th round picks (which moves the Chiefs up 5 slots, they traded the pick they received from the Bucs for RB Michael Bennett, hmm). The Vikes locked up Allen with a 6 year 74 million dollar deal... I'm definitely not sad to see the Bucs lose out on Jared Allen (if you can call it that). This leaves the door wide open for a Julius Peppers signing next off-season and Allen is one drink away from a train wreck. Good luck in Minnesota No. 69, eh Don't look now, but the Miami Dolphins have put Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor on the trading block. It's rumored the Dolphins are looking for a first round pick in exchange for Taylor and that JCat would not get traded until his potential suitor is on the clock.. The Lions, Bucs, Jags, and Eagles are rumored to be potential destin...

NFL Shop gets it right with Tampa Bay Buccaneer Customizable T-Shirt
2008-04-23 14:05:00
Doing a little draft research the other night and I stumbled upon NFL Shop 's customizable Tampa Bay Buccaneers t-shirt feature. Simply put, the product is genius. Especially if your looking to represent a player without fear of that player eventually being traded and your stuck looking silly in a $50-$300 waste of an investment. Here's a couple products I made below: With shipping your talking, $34-$38 for a customizable t-shirt. Of course you can use your own name or choose not to put a name/number on the t-shirt at all. The shirt comes in Red, Black, Grey, and White. The prices range from $16.99 (plain) to $29.99 (as high as I've gotten it to)... I can't vouch for the quality of the t-shirt as I've yet to purchase one as the wife won't let me, I'm a little short in the dough department, BUT I plan to get one shortly. Just wanted to give you fellow fans a heads up. Click here to customize a t-shirt yourself.

NFL Draft Nuggets: Chad Johnson, Miami Dolphins, Bucs Draft Philosophy
2008-04-23 04:08:00
With the first pick in the 2008 NFL Draft.. The Miami Dolphins select, Offensive Tackle Jake Long, from the University of Michigan. Yes, its only tuesday and the first Draft Pick has been signed, sealed, and delivered. I hate the early Draft signings, I really do. Talk about a buzz kill. How Goodell even lets it happen is beyond me. At any rate, good luck to the Dolphins. SBNation is 1 for 1 so far with the NFL Mock Draft. Not bad, not bad.. The St. Louis Rams are now on the clock! Marvin Lewis and the Bengals have it out for WR Chad Johnson (with good reason imo). The Redskins offered their '08 1st Round Draft Pick (No.21) and a potential '09 1st Round Draft Pick for WR Chad Johnson and got DENIED. The '09 1st Round Draft pick hinged on Ocho Cinco's ability to reach certain production plateaus. I have a feeling Chad Johnson won't see the field this season. Marvin Lewis seems crazy-stubborn-scorned enough to let that happen. Two 1st Round Draft Picks for Chad got denied, w...

Tampa Bay Bucs to Trade down in the Draft? You're kidding me
2008-04-22 05:41:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneers to trade down in Saturday's NFL Draft ? Stephen Holder of the St. Pete Times, Scott Kramer of BucStats, and Peter King of Sports Illustrated think the Bucs should trade down. Count me as a guy who's not amused. Their main argument is that the Bucs should trade down to accumulate draft picks, because there's depth at Wide Receiver and Cornerback in this draft. Holder goes so far as to suggest the Bucs taking a gamble on WR Early Doucet because who knows if he's any better than projected 1st rounder Limas Sweed. Doucet, a Where does this arrogance come from? It must trickle down from the Bucs organization. What part of our offense outside of Joey Galloway and Jeff Garcia makes you think we can pass on 1st Round talent? Oh, I guess so we can take our shot at two mid-level draft picks flaming out? How about the Bucs HOLD on to their picks. There's a reason we only have (5) picks to begin with (Damn you, Bruce Allen, for wasting those picks on Michael Ben...

With the 52nd Pick in SBNation's NFL Mock Draft...
2008-04-20 23:12:00
No. 52 Presented by Buc'Em Red Bryant Defensive Tackle Texas A&M With the 52nd overall selection in the 2008 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft , the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Texas A&M defensive tackle Red Bryant.  Here's my rationale below:   We gambled on taking a WR/PR with that first round draft pick in Cal's DeSean Jackson and have really got a not-so-spectacular group of corners left to choose from thanks to Dave and those pesky Falcon fans who chose CB Tracy Porter with their 48th pick.  With that said we've decided to go with Texas A&M's Defensive Tackle Joseph "Red" Bryant.  The Bucs have been rumored to like Red and he's certainly a better value at this point than any cornerback we could have potentially pursued. Red is a monster at 6'5" and 320+ pounds. He's got a great presence, ideal physique, and a mean streak the fan base will grow to love (ask OT Chris Williams about those haymakers he received during a Se...

You know that 1st Round NFL Draft Pick? Meet DE Jared Allen
2008-04-18 01:41:00
...UPDATE...Apparently the Bucs and Vikings are having reservations about dumping a ton of money into Jared Allen's lap. The fact that he has a tendency to drink, alot, coupled with the fact that he owns a sports BAR that features "Jared Juice" apparently doesnt sit well with either club and it shouldnt. If the man's jersey number selection (69) wasnt enough, his bar's slogan says it all "Wine 'Em, Dine 'Em, 69 'Em" if the Bucs sign him after that, maybe he'll do an interview here at Buc 'Em, eh, maybe not. I can see a Jared's Arena & Grill going right up beside Tampa's own Mons Venus... Stay classy Jared! Reports everywhere have the Bucs attempting to trade with the Kansas City Chiefs for franchise tagged DE Jared Allen. You may remember last season when the Bucs were rumored to be trading for the Saints Charles Grant, going so far as to have him visit their facilities. I didnt cover that much, as it didnt seem like a real possibility. This Jared Allen situation on the ot...

SBNation 2008 NFL Mock Draft rolling through 2nd Round
2008-04-17 05:12:00
...UPDATE... As you can see below, we are nearly On the Clock again in SBNation’s NFL Mock Draft . A couple notable guys who have yet to go off the Draft Board are: CB Tracy Porter, CB Reggie Smith, CB DeJuan Tribble (are you sensing a pattern?), and DT Red Bryant ... This is definitely where the Draft gets a little tougher. Just a heads up, I don’t think we’re gonna get in a 3rd round, so keep that in mind with your suggestions. It's Mock Draft time.. SBNation's 2nd Annual NFL Mock Draft is under way. Head over to Mocking the Draft to see who SBNation's Bloggers have chosen for their respective teams.. With that said I need EVERYONE'S input on who the Bucs should draft with the 52nd Pick. I would run a poll, but thats too time consuming and who knows who'll be available when it's our turn to pick. Whoever the community suggests is who I'll attempt to Draft. Here's how SBNation's 2nd Round of its 2008 NFL Mock Draft has shaped up thus far: ...

Don't bank on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Drafting a WR in the 1st Round of th
2008-04-14 16:48:00
Don't be surprised if the Bucs pass on drafting a Wide Receiver with that First Round Draft Pick they possess... I know, I know, it pisses me off as well, but look at the current landscape: Joey Galloway - Hands down #1 WR on the team Ike Hilliard - 3rd down possession receiver, he's deserving of a spot and will start Antonio Bryant - he wasn't brought in to challenge the scout team Maurice Stovall - an injury prematurely ended his season last year Michael Clayton - This is his MAKE or BREAK Year, honestly it is. Put up or shut up Paris Warren - He looked great last Pre-Season missed all of '07 with a leg injury I know what you're thinking, outside of Joey Galloway, none of those guys should be guaranteed a thing and I agree with you, but I don't think Jon Gruden and company agree with our assessment. Heck even QB Jeff Garcia said he'd like to see Clayton and Stovall get more opportunities... So who will the Bucs target with that 1st Round Draft Pick? Y...

Show me the Money: RB Earnest Graham and QB Jeff Garcia want compensation
2008-04-12 03:54:00
RB Earnest Graham was a no show for this weeks Organized Team Activities (OTA's) aka Voluntary workouts. He's denied it but many have speculated that he's holding out for a contract extension. I can't really blame Graham. He's been a rock ever since he came to the Bucs and he really proved his worth last season and he'll continue to prove his worth for much of this season as well. With Veteran Warrick Dunn getting 6 mil for 2 years, its a no brainer Earnest Graham would look to get paid, especially with the Cap Space the Bucs currently have. QB Jeff Garcia was hopeful the Bucs Organization would rip up his current contract and provide him with a new contract he could retire a Buc with. The Bucs have shown no sign of extending his contract however. Garcia is the key that starts the Bucs engine, there's no question he is the single most important piece to the puzzle, BUT his performance last season wasn't contract extending worthy... Sure he made the Pro Bowl (by default) ...

Draft Day Hat: You better go out and get one, on second thought, don't
2008-04-09 13:26:00
Every year Reebok (or whoever the league does business with) issues a New NFL Draft Day Hat.. With every passing year the hat gets uglier and uglier. Go ahead, take a moment to take in this years Draft Hat.. Still with me?First of all, when did the mesh trucker hat concept come in style? Was that the Von Dutch fad from years ago? Who had the bright idea to combine the mesh trucker hat with the world beating fitted ball cap? Secondly, how many different colors does this hat have? Nevermind the eye popping (more like eye gouging) thread that was used... Lastly, when will the NFL realize that it can color coordinate its NFL Shield to each respective teams colors. Nothing looks worse on a Bucs Red, Pewter, and Black hat (jersey, t-shirt etc) than royal blue stitching within the NFL Shield. Come on, even MLB has it right... If you must have the hat in this post, go find it online yourself, there's no way I'm contributing a link to that absurdity...

Draft Reality: If DeSean Jackson's off the board, who's next?
2008-04-08 13:44:00
In the event that WR/PR DeSean Jackson is off the board come the Bucs 1st Round Draft slot at Pick No. 20.. Who should the Bucs turn to? WR Limas Sweed (Texas) 6'5, 219lbs - Big, athletic receiver. Missed most of 2007 with wrist injury. Gets good separation and can make tough catches. Down field threat. Long strides, but good overall speed. Quiet, humble player. Good open field vision. Feels the coverage well. Can sit in a zone and works back to the ball well. Needs to overcome injuries. My initial opinion of Limas is: He's a big, lanky receiver, do we need another one of those? His Video is impressive however. He shows speed, an ability to jump for the ball, and the athleticism to hold on to the ball while showing no regard for his body. I think he could easily become a fan favorite. Several Draft discussions have had him falling out of the first round, I'm not sure if it would be a reach for the Bucs to take him with that 20th pick...... WR Early Doucet (Louisiana State...

2008-04-08 03:42:00
No. 20 Presented by Buc'Em DeSean Jackson Wide Receiver California With the 20th overall selection in the 2008 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft , the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have chosen DeSean "DJax" Jackson, Wide Receiver/Punt Returner, California.  I was pretty shocked DJax fell to us and if you go over to Mocking the Draft's comments section you'll see a couple fans who thought :WE: made a bad move drafting Jackson... Here's my analysis:   When you take into account that General Manager Bruce Allen did absolutely nothing to upgrade the receiving corps this off-season (Antonio Bryant? Ben Troupe? Please...) and we currently use our 3rd down possession receiver (Ike Hilliard) as our Punt Return man, Cal’s WR/PR DeSean Jackson is a no-brainer for the Bucs and their 20th Draft slot. Granted he doesn’t have the best hands and as Jon Gruden kindly reminds us, he’s only 168 pounds, but he DOES excel at two facets of the game; receiving the b...

Head Coach Jon Gruden on Drafting WR's, QB's, and CB's
2008-04-08 00:52:00
Bucs Head Coach Jon Gruden had a couple things to say last week at the NFL Owners Meetings about his potential NFL Draftees, here's what he said: On Wide Receiver: [Which one do you like?] I mean the guy at Cal is 169 pounds. Is he going to be big enough? He's certainly fast as hell. He'd be a hell of a returner. The guy at Indiana [James Hardy] is big. Every film you pick up there's another touchdown. Is he fast enough? We've got Stovall, what the hell have we've got him for? You don't want to stock guys. So that's a tough call, it always is, though… Theres a number of good receivers That quote up there on DeSean Jackson doesnt exactly exude confidence in the kid. It's funny how Gruden compares probably the smallest WR (DeSean 6'0 166lbs) to the largest WR (Hardy 6'6 220;bs) in the draft... Are we restricted to drafting huge WR's only? I hope Gruden doesnt over look the DeSean's, Keenan Burton's, and Jordy Nelson's do to lack of size. Chad Johnson, La...
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pre-Season Games Announced
2008-04-04 14:22:00
Home Away New England Patriots Sunday Aug. 17th Miami Dolphins Friday Aug. 8th Jacksonville Jaguars Friday Aug. 22nd Houston Texans Friday Aug. 29th The Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2008 Pre-Season Schedule has been released and if it looks familiar to you, thats because it should. The Bucs played the exact same schedule last season. The only difference is that they'll be playing J-Ville at home and playing the Dolphins away... Hope you werent anticipating the schedule... If the rumors of the Bucs potentially spinning QB Chris Simms off to the Miami Dolphins holds true, maybe the Pre-Season Opener will be interesting for half a quarter (after that the reserves will be on the field). In another jaw-dropper, Bucs S/CB Eugene Wilson could show the Patriots why they shouldnt have let him go in the 2nd week of the pre-season. Okay let me stop talking up the Pre-Season... It's the Pre-Season afterall..

Draft Buzz: Players the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are interested in
2008-04-04 13:59:00
...UPDATE... (New Targets highlighted as of 4/3/08)Who might the Tampa Bay Buccaneers look at in this month's NFL Draft ? Just take a look below at the list of players the Bucs are rumored to be interested in: WR James Hardy (Indiana) 6'6, 220lbs - Long-striding possession receiver. Hands are a little suspect, but he'll fight for the ball in a crowd of defenders. Shows good footwork to keep in bounds. Route running needs improvement. Will round off too much and doesn't do a good job juking defenders. Isn't very fast or shift. Somewhat physical after the catch. WR Andre Caldwell (Florida) 6'1, 200lbs - Big-framed receiver who has a burst in the short area game. Rarely gets jammed. Displays good body control to keep his balance and work routes correctly. Hands are good but not great. Not much of a playmaker after the catch. Should buck the trend on Gators receivers. WR Dexter Jackson (Appalachian State) 5'10, 180lbs - Jackson, who doubles as a track star, displays e...

Buccaneers to add yet another Quarterback to the Roster
2008-04-03 13:55:00
I've slowly come to grips with the Bucs, Jon Gruden's affinity for collecting Quarterback s for his roster. I was disgusted when the Bucs wasted a draft pick on QB Bruce Gradkowski, furious when they dealt another draft pick for retired QB Jake Plummer, and was disappointed when they traded yet another draft pick for re-tread QB Brian Griese. I've realized and come to accept the fact that no position on the Bucs roster can be discussed in absolutes, especially the QB position. Take the 2008 NFL Draft for example, the Bucs could select a Quarterback with one of their 5 Draft Picks. This notion became a true possibility when the Bucs have been rumored to be scouting: QB Chad Henne (Michigan) 6'2, 224lbs - A four-year starter with a strong arm, Henne isn't very mobile and is a little short for the position. Henne struggles when pressured and may need to work on his mechanics some. Has tremendous football intelligence and is a vocal leader. Could develop into a good pro if he's ...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers stuck with only 5 Draft Picks
2008-04-02 13:59:00
I hope you didn't bank on the Bucs receiving compensatory picks to help aide those 5 Draft Picks the team has for this month's NFL Draft... Per Buccaneers .com:Tampa Bay was not one of the 15 teams that received compensatory picks. That list was distributed by the NFL on Monday, and Baltimore and Cincinnati led the way with four additional picks each. This marks the first time in eight years that the Bucs have not been on that list. From 2001-07, the Bucs collected a total of 12 compensatory picks. Of course, the fact that Tampa Bay is one of the 17 teams without draft pick compensation means there was nothing to be compensated for. The system of compensatory picks was introduced with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement in 1993 - yes, the CBA that brought true free agency to the NFL. The additional picks are meant to make up for a net roster loss in free agency the year before. Last year, according to the complicated formula utilized by the NFL's Management Council, the Buc...

Draft Focus: Bucs may have a shot at Drafting USF CB Mike Jenkins
2008-03-28 12:46:00
CB Mike Jenkins (South Florida) 6'0, 200lbs - A cover corner who can play physical. Long limbed, but not skinny. Well built. Good speed and awareness. Is best in man coverage. Can turn and run with top receivers. Has loose hips and is fluid in movements. Is an able tackler. Is not afraid of contact. Drops into a zone well. Climbing the draft boards quickly. - New Era Scouting Should the Bucs luck into draftng CB Mike Jenkins, it wouldnt be the first time he's played in Raymond James Stadium and we all know that as RJ is where the USF Bulls play their home games.. He can return kicks as well as Cover Receivers, but he only returned 7 kicks last season so its not something he's accustomed to doing, although he did return one for a touchdown. With the Bucs he'd probably get a look at Kick Returning like Phillip Buchanon did (in practice), but would then focus solely on his CB position. End of an Era: QB Chris Simms could no longer be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer
2008-03-28 12:46:00
As you've all heard by now, Bucs QB Chris Simms has elected to skip Voluntary Team Workouts and did not attend last week's Quarterback Orientation for the first time in his career. No Simms isn't hurt, in fact he feels like he did before he lost his spleen to the Carolina Panthers defense: "I'm back to 100 percent and just excited about getting back on the field again," he said. "I just think [skipping voluntary workouts] is in my best interest to continue my own workouts and to just wait and see what happens with the team," Simms said. "I don't really know what's going to happen. As far as the Bucs and the quarterback position goes, it's always an adventure." - St. Pete Times That's the understatement of the year. It's taken me a while to get a firm grasp on that Quarterback Adventure, but I think I'm starting to understand it (hah, right). As for Simms, what a rollercoaster his career has been to watch.. For me, I hated when the Bucs spent a 3rd Round Pick on the guy ...

Or will they skim over the teams true needs and propose some crazy draft picks? Tampa Bay Buccaneers to receive more Draft Picks this year?
2008-03-26 12:38:00
With only 5 Draft Picks for next months NFL Draft, it wouldnt hurt to be handed a couple more picks... That might just happen; the NFL plans to hand out Compensatory Picks over the next two weeks. The Picks will be awarded from the 4th Round on.. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no clue as to whether they will receive any Compensatory Picks. These are called Compensatory Picks, not Sympathy Picks.. If you think just because the Bucs got hosed (in reality BRUCE ALLEN hosed himself) when dealing a 7th Round Pick for a RETIRED QB, think again, the league won't "Compensate" for that ignorance.. You gotta hope they throw us a bone pick however..

So I know I said I was sick of "Trade Talk", but I didnt say anything about good-spirited fan-base to fan-base trade talk. He's a consistent route runner who finds openings and reads the defense well. Will be a great asset as a slot receiver and special teams ace. The three video's below show Jordy's elusiveness, determination, and abilities (a one handed -ridiculous- grab, he bu...
