Breaking News: Tampa Bay Bucs CB Brian Kelly to test Free Agency
2008-01-27 17:08:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneers CB Brian Kelly (B.K.) will "buy back" the final year of his contract by exercising a $480,000 option in the second week of March in order to become a Free Agent and to test the market reports St. Pete Times writer Rick Stroud. Brian Kelly confirmed his intentions via text message: "Consider it done", Kelly said. - St. Pete Times This is fairly shocking news to be honest. I realize he hasnt always seen eye-to-eye with the organization and the way it compensates him, but at 32 years of age, he figures this is the time to bank one last time? Coming off two injury riddled seasons? In the year before last he played in TWO Games. This season he missed SIX Games. By opting to enter the Free Agent market, it definitely doesn't rule out a return to the Bucs, but Allen typically likes to sign older washed up players and Kelly clearly has some fuel left in the tank, so it might be time to say goodbye to B.K. and to wish him the very best!! By the way, do...

Game Defining Moments: New York Giants BEAT New England Patriots in Superbo
2008-01-27 16:08:00
In the NFL, the biggest Game s are decided by the smallest details. Here's what I would suggest as the weekends most defining moment... Brady's got a busted foot; Osi, Strahan, and Tuck will make sure that's a dislocated foot. Randy Moss has legal issues; Welker's not ready to do it on his own. The Giants have had the tougher road to the Playoffs: Tampa, Dallas, Green Bay, no really they have... Look for the G-Men to come out firing on all cylinders and to frustrate the Pats into DUMB penalties early (Rodney, Seymour, I'm looking at you)... Brady gets hurt in the second quarter and the Pats completely fall apart. The 72 Dolphins storm the field, canes, wheelchairs, and urine bags in all. The G-Men bring it home for NYC!!!!

Bucs Beat: Quotes from Mike Alstott's Peers
2008-01-25 03:51:00
The Bucs Beat and specifically Stephen Holder, did a phenominal job rounding up quotes from former and current teammates, coaches, and analysts from around the Football World about recently retired Buccaneer FB Mike Alstott. You just knew Chris Berman would have an opinion or two about the A-Train..."Mike Alstott was a throwback warrior disguised as a modern day player. There is no question that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were truly in 'Good Hands with' Alstott" - ESPN's Chris Berman "I hate to see the A-Train getting off the track, but in my mind, he's getting off the track in one piece. As hard as he has run the football and as many hits as he's taken, I'm very proud of the fact that he's getting out of this game and being able to walk around, play with his kids and enjoy his wife. I know it was a very hard decision to come to, but I thank God that he has made the decision and stuck with it." - Bucs Teammate LB Derrick Brooks "We weren't a very talented football team in th...

Buccaneer headed to Honolulu after all
2008-01-25 02:06:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Jeff Garcia is headed to the Pro Bowl says the Tampa Tribune. He'll take lord [Brett] Favre's spot in the Pro Bowl as the 3rd String QB. No Brett's not injured, he's just electing not to play. Forgive me if you can't hear me shouting from the roof tops... Of all the Big League All-Star Games, this has to be the most pointless of them all. I understand the logic behind having this game at the end of the season due in large part to injury concerns, but whats the point if players are going to sit out, justified or not? Bud Selig receives a bunch of grief for the way he handles Major League Baseball, but his All-Star game is relevant and a MUST SEE... It's good to see a Buc finally land on the roster though

Bucs Mike Alstott to announce Retirement?
2008-01-24 01:32:00
SI.com is reporting that Franchise FB Mike Alstott is expected to announce his retirement from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NFL tomorrow in a scheduled News Conference. For a plethora of Fan insight on Fullback Mike Alstott, be sure to check out Give Mike the Ball, a fan site dedicated to the Fullback's career. It should be interesting to see if ESPN allows Chris Berman to jump on the panel tomorrow and give Alstott ado. He clearly enjoyed his career, as did every single one of us. If you have YouTube Videos or thoughts, feel free to post them here and I'll put them within the front page!!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: RB Cadillac Williams CAREER OVER?
2008-01-24 00:58:00
ProFootballTalk.com says word on the street, in Mobile Alabama, is that Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Cadillac Williams may never return to the field of play, that his playing days are over, that the patellar tendon he tore this season could abruptly end his career, that, let me stop... If this turns out to be true, my goodness what a sad sight that would be. Forget that we spent a Top 5 Draft Pick on Caddy and that aside from Earnest "Hard Nose" Graham we basically have no depth at Runningback. A young man's career would end after great promise. There's really no point in saying much more until what is being rumored turns out to be true. All we can do is hope the doctors can help Caddy see the field next season. Just over a month ago, the Pewter Report was reporting that Caddy was back at One Buc Place rehabbing and walking some what normally. I tend to think he'll be okay and back on the field next season. I don't think he'll be out there to start the season, but he'll certainly...

Bored? Give Guitar Hero a Try....
2008-01-24 00:33:00
I'd never steer you away from frequenting this site, but in the event that you become bored this off-season; I highly recommend you dusting the PS2 off (I'm convinced nobody can afford a PS3) and go to your local Target, Wal-Mart, or GameStop and pick up Guitar Hero . The wife got me the Guitar Hero III Bundle from Target for $80+ for XMas and its been an addiction ever since. If you've ever picked up a guitar and immediately received a headache for attempting to strum it, the video game version is just for you. I honestly don't have a taste for the Older Rock that is featured in the game, but I can't put the guitar down. Plus there is some newer material sprinkled in (aka Slipknot) that keeps me busy. The only advice I would give, is to start the game on Medium (after doing the tutorials of course). Starting on Easy gave me a blind confidence that just disintegrated once that fourth bottom was implemented into the game. And no I've yet to attempt the game on its highest level...

Three Year Extensions: Head Coach Jon Gruden and G.M. Bruce Allen
2008-01-22 19:09:00
ESPN.com among others, have reported that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have extended the contracts of Head Coach Jon Gruden and General Manager Bruce Allen Three Years. The numbers in the contracts have yet to be revealed. I'm ecstatic to see Jon Gruden get a contract extension. He's battled injuries since 2002 and has done a pretty good job with what Allen provides him with. This season he proved he was willing to change (a bit) and seemed to really get his players to rally behind and believe in his system. I think the Glazers missed a perfect opportunity to send a message to General Manager Bruce Allen. Nothing would have stung more than having to tell Gruden about his three year extension, while Allen wonders about his future. I haven't been overly impressed with Allen's work since he's arrived. His Drafts are finally starting to pan out, but his Free Agent acquisitions leave A LOT to be desired. Hopefully he makes a splash this off-season in the Wide Receiver Department....

Inside Look: Kentucky WR Keenan Burton through A Sea of Blue's Eyes
2008-01-22 18:52:00
I was lucky enough to catch up with Kentucky Wildcats Blogger, Glenn, from SBNation's A Sea of Blue to talk about potentional Tampa Bay Bucs Draft Pick, WR Keenan Burton . There's no better place to get inside information (in my opinion) than going stright to the fan base that watches its players 24/7. Without further ado, here's Glenn's take on Kentucky Wildcats Wide Receiver Keenan Burton:I think Keenan Burton would be a great addition to any pro team. Here is a quick SWOT analysis for you: Strengths: Keenan was a quarterback in high school, so he understands the game very well from the other side of the passing game Burton is a good route runner who has excellent timing and will wind up where the quarterback expects him to be He has excellent speed and athleticism, although he doesn't have blazing speed. At 6'2", he is at the lower end of the prototype for the NFL, but he is very long and can really get up in the air. Burton also played safety in high school, so ...

New Era Scouting: Tampa Bay Bucs Mock Draft 1.0
2008-01-19 08:46:00
The fellas from New Era Scouting have provided a Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mock Draft for the entire 7 Rounds of April's NFL Draft. To say these guys have put in an extensive amount of hours and preparation into their Scouting would be a HUGE understatement. Below you'll find their Mock Draft Picks for the Bucs:1st Round Draft Pick (#20) - Ryan Clady Boise State OT 6'6, 319 - Clady is a classically built left tackle packed with strength and athleticism. The junior uses his hands and upper body strength really well to keep defenders away. Will need to learn how to play in a pro-style offense where he can’t just stand back and let opponents come to him. Will have trouble with speed rushers who can work his inside shoulder. I'm not sure an Offensive Lineman is what we really need to Draft in the 1st Round this off-season. We drafted Arron Sears in the 2nd Round last year, Davin Joseph and Jeremy Trueblood in Rounds 1 & 2 the previous year. I know we need help on the line, I think GM...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Free Agent Situation
2008-01-18 02:49:00
FREE AGENCY BEGINS FEBRUARY 29th... The Bucs FA's consist of the following:Unrestricted Free Agent s - are players without a team. They have either been released from their club, had the term of their contract expire without a renewal, or were not chosen in league's draft of amateur players. These players, generally speaking, are free to entertain offers from all other teams and to decide with whom to sign a new contract. - Wikipedia.com FB Mike Alstott - He's talked about retirement this off-season and he should for health's sake. He's got a Superbowl Ring. It's time to hang 'em up Mike. You are adorned by Bucs Fans around the globe!! TE Anthony Becht - Are you going to lose sleep if he signs some where else? Yeah me neither RB Michael Bennett - I didnt see enough of him to even register his style of play in my mind. I'd use him to replace Pittman CB Sammy Davis - Played admirably when called to the field, look to resign him TE Keith Heinrich - Keith who? Replace...

Bucs Beat: DE Gaines Adams to hit the Weights
2008-01-18 01:09:00
Although DE Gaines Adams had a pretty respectable Rookie Season finishing with 6 Sacks, 38 Tackles, and 2 Forced Fumbles, the Bucs Beat reports Gaines is ready to hit the Weights . Here's Gaines on attempting to make, Gains, in the off-season: "I have a lot more room for improvement [this offseason]", Adams said. I'm going to get in the weight room and get stronger. It's only going to help me. It's going to help against the run if I get a lot stronger. And it will definitely help me out in the pass rush, too" - Bucs Beat Gaines definitely needs to hit the weights hard. During his NFL Draft Workouts last year, he looked more like a Wide Receiver than an NFL Defensive End, especially when standing beside fellow Rookie Amobi Okoye of the Houston Texans. Whats very exciting is the fact that Gaines got better as the season progressed (that may have to do with him FINALLY STARTING). He didnt seem to wear down at all though. If Gaines is looking for teammates to work out with, I woul...
Make or Break Off-Season for Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Bruce Allen
2008-01-17 12:49:00
The Bucs Beat is reporting that GM Bruce Allen is publicly hopeful that QB Jake Plummer will join the Bucs this upcoming season; he even goes so far as to say that Plummer got a good glimpse at the Bucs this year and that he should be intrigued enough to come play for the Bucs.Call me crazy but just maybe Bruce should FORGET Jake Plummer and start moving on to more pressing and REALISTIC needs, like Re-signing Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin, trying any way possible to trade for a noteworthy Wide Receiver, and getting depth for the Offensive Line. In a few weeks the Bucs will go to court and try to recoup 7 million in damages from said QB Jake Plummer.... what a joke this continues to be. Move on already, the fan base has...

Dear GM Bruce Allen: Trade for WR Chad Johnson immediately, That is all...
2008-01-14 04:57:00
...UPDATE... Josh from Cincy Jungle, our Cincinnato Bengals Blog, had the following to say in terms of what it would take GM Bruce Allen to pry WR Chad Johnson away from the Bengals:"Draft picks. With age on the front line and an assortment of B-list players at linebacker, a complete overhaul on defense is needed. The interesting assumption is that Head Coach Marvin Lewis is using key phrases like 'blow this thing up' or 'start from the ground up'. [In terms of Draft Picks], I'm expecting a second round pick. If Chad MUST go with no chance of playing with the Bengals in 2008, then they'll take what they can get. If he doesn't, and pipes down and lets things play out, then the Bengals will milk it. Then again, our front office isn't necessarily the genius types either. But it depends on how the front office views the situation. With that said, there's really no feeling of urgency to let Chad Johnson go, right now. Thanks for the perspective Josh... If a 2nd Round Pick is...

Warren Sapp Calls it Quits....
2008-01-10 18:14:00
You can stop smiling, Buc 'Em is NOT shutting it down. Former Bucs DT Warren Sapp is however. He announced his retirement last week during the Bucs Playoff Run. If you head over to his Web Site QB Killa you will see the words that you see up above, which is UNLIKE Warren. He always had something to say while he played for the Bucs. I was looking for the Warren Sapp - Mike Sherman confrontation on YouTube, but I had NO LUCK, so I've posted the next best thing below: Video via DRubenW from YouTube I could careless what ESPN or the Hall of Fame would lead you to believe. I'll always remember Warren Sapp as a great player and one of the most fiery players I've ever seen take the field. This type of Character has been MISSING ever since Sapp left and we have to find a way to get that type of attitude back on our Football Team. I think we have that type of guy on Offense in QB Jeff Garcia, but the Defense certainly lacks that type of personality. LB Cato June can be that guy, but...

Health Reasons: Pray to the Football Gods Buc Fans
2008-01-10 05:00:00
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the Superbowl back in 2002, since then Head Coach Jon Gruden has had to deal with a plethora of injuries. This year alone he had 14 Players on Injured Reserve, including Starting LT Luke Petitgout and Starting RB Cadillac Williams. Throughout his tenure Gruden has also watched injuries take hold of WR Joe Jurevicius, FB Mike Alstott, DT Greg Spires, LB Shelton Quarles, QB Chris Simms, QB Brian Griese, WR Joey Galloway, and CB Brian Kelly. Despite those injuries, Gruden has given the Bucs Organization and its fan base (1) Superbowl Championship, (3) NFC South Championships, and (3) Playoffs appearances in Six years as the Bucs Head Coach. There's a perception growing out there, that Head Coach Jon Gruden may be shown the door this off-season. This speculation has risen because several Offensive Assistants have yet to be re-signed to contracts (Offensive Line Coach Bill Muir, Receivers Coach Richard Mann, Running Backs Coach Art Valero and Assistant Lin...

Random Quotes: Garcia, Gruden, Simms Oh MY!
2008-01-08 01:42:00
"I'm sure Coach Gruden will go out and try to make this a stronger team on the offensive side," Garcia said. Later, he added, "I will be very hands-on this off-season and be involved in whatever it takes." - Bucs Beat I hope he meant GM Bruce Allen, sheesh. I'm still on the fence with Bruce Allen and whether he is the right GM for this ball club. He's been straped by a lack of draft picks, but his Free Agent Signings leave alot to be desired. I'm excited as can be that Jeff Garcia will voice his opinions about who should be acquired during the off-season. You can rest assured that nobody in previous years under Gruden has had the nads to do such a thing. "I pulled him out of the game," Gruden said. "Obviously, he was hurting. You could see it on the tape this morning. I think emotions flared. This is very important to him. He's played a long time and wanted a shot at a championship. He knows he's a key cog here and one of our big reasons why we have a chance every Sunday. ...

LB Barrett Ruud: Little Annoying Third-Down Conversions
2008-01-08 00:58:00
So Tampa Bay Bucs LB Barrett Ruud pissed off a couple Giants Fans yesterday, namely our friends over at Big Blue View, Our New York Giants Blog. The quote that really set that group of fans off is as follows:"He [QB Eli Manning] made those little annoying third-down conversions when he needed to," Ruud said. "If it was 3rd-and-8, he'd get eight-and-a-half yards. That was frustrating" - Bradenton HeraldBarrett's clearly just frustrated and honest when answering questions from reporters. I doubt Giants Fans care, but this is Ruud's first season starting at LB and his first Playoff game. From a fans perspective it was frustrating, the Giants would be in a 3rd down situation and get just enough yardage to extend the drive. That is what good teams do and the Giants are a good team and a better team than that of the Bucs. I wouldn't get too worked up about a frustrated players reaction immediately after the game... especially a young defensive player, who's yet to experience the...

Head Coach Jon Gruden: We hung in there
2008-01-07 00:56:00
"I'm proud of our football players. We overcame a lot this year. We hung in there." Head Coach Jon Gruden - Buccaneers.comGruden said it all right there. We did overcome alot and we did hang in there. Enough so that we made the Playoffs. That's pretty impressive for a team that finished the year with 14 guys on Injured Reserve: Mike Alstott, Charles Bennett, Antoine Cash, Torrie Cox, Chris Denman, Mark Jones, Sam Olajubutu, Greg Peterson, Luke Petitgout, Sabby Piscitelli, Chris Simms, Maurice Stovall, Paris Warren, and Carnell Williams That would be difficult for any team to over come and the Bucs were able to accomplish that. Going into the Season I thought Gruden at the very least had to make the Playoffs and possibly win a Playoff game. Had he had all his ammunition I might feel that way today, but he DID make the Playoffs, so I'm jumping off the HOT SEAT Talk for a while. You gotta wonder what a HEALTHY Season under Jon Gruden would mean for this Franchise. The cool thing ...

Battle of the Lines: Youth VS The Aged... Tampa Bay Bucs OLine vs Giants DL
2008-01-05 19:21:00
I'd probably lose the respect of a couple members of this Site had I not conveyed the following story... A Buc 'Em contributer once said, "A Game is lost or won somewhere in the trenches" - Quote via Buc'Em Contributer kmac68k12 Going into tomorrow's Playoff Game against the New York Giants , alot of the talk has been about the Skill Positions; QB Eli Manning and whether he'll bring his "A" Game or "No" Game... CB Ronde Barber talking smack about the SORRY Giants and so on and so on... What usually gets overlooked during this time however is the Offensive Line. Paul Schwartz of the New York Post once again, presents us with a great article about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers YOUNG Offensive Line and the Battle it will face when the Giants Veteran Defensive Line comes into town. Our offensive line is the youngest in the NFL with an Average Age of 25 years old. This entire unit has yet to make a name for itself, but 2nd Year Right Tackle Jeremy Trueblood hopes to change that Sunda...

Plaxico Burress: What exactly are you TALKING about!?
2008-01-05 16:45:00
Paul Schwartz of the New York Post conveys how Plaxico Burress has taken issue with Ronde Barber's most recent comments in the New York Post from Thursday and he's posted them up at his Locker. Plaxico took issue with the following Barber comment: "Plax is kind of a special athlete. Not that he's overly fast or real, like Randy Moss, athletic, because that's just not his game. But he's a [beast] to deal with" Barber said. - New York Post Plaxico highlighted those quotes, with a yellow marker, from the article (minus the part about him being a beast, which he is) and put them up at his Locker as Bulletin Board Material for his Teammates to read. Here's Plaxico's response to the comments: "You got to love that type of stuff," Burress said. "I put it up so all my teammates can see what he thinks about me. All my teammates ask me, 'So what you gonna do?' Take it and we'll see what happens" - New York Post I get it, he's pissed because Barber thinks he's not athletic or f...

Defining Moments: QB Jeff Garcia leads Bucs to Playoff Victory!
2008-01-05 15:57:00
In the NFL, the biggest Games are decided by the smallest details. Here's what I would suggest as the weekends most defining moment... Sunday's Playoff Match-up between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants will be a very Physical Match-up. Look for the Giants to lead and control the game the whole way, UNTIL Bucs QB Jeff Garcia begins his team's final drive. Several passes down field to Joey Galloway/Ike Hilliard and the Bucs find themselves in the Red Zone. Garcia looks to the left, rolls out of the pocket to the right and finds TE Anthony Becht in the back of the End Zone all alone. BUCS WIN, THE BUCSSSS WIN!!!!

Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Underdogs against the New York Giants?
2008-01-04 18:31:00
If you've paid any attention at all to the noise surrounding this Sunday's Playoff Game against the New York Giants, then you've heard the Bucs being labeled as underdogs. I'm sure you've heard that we hobbled our way into the Playoffs and that losing three of four to finish the season should render us hopeless against the Giants. Doesn't it sound rather familiar? It should. It's what we've heard all off-season and throughout the regular season. Nobody took our chances serious except those close to the organization; i.e. players, coaches, fans etc. That's fine with me. Let them think the Giants are set to man-handle us in Raymond James. I mean, obviously there's no way the Bucs Defense can stop Brandon Jacobs aka the Man Child. We might as well have limited ticket sales to those in the New York tri-state area only. As a matter of fact, maybe the Giants can spot us 10 points to start the game since we have no shot. All I know is this: This Tampa team has gotten punched i...

Ronde Barber kicks the tires, er, the New York Giants
2008-01-04 04:08:00
Tampa Bay Bucs CB Ronde Barber gave the New York Giants bulletin board material yesterday for the start of the Giants first practice in preparation for Sundays Playoff Game. The Smack Talk came from Barber's December 18th Sirius Satellite Radio Show with brother Tiki called "The Barber Shop". Here's what Ronde said: "Of course we want to play the Giants. They [win] ugly, Shockey's hurt and Eli has been inconsistent" - Newsday.com Ronde made the remark after Tiki asked him whether he'd prefer to face the Vikings or the Giants in the first round of the Playoffs. Do I wish Ronde hadn't said it, sure, but these teams were gonna play hard regardless. Were Ronde on Offense, I think he'd have to potentially watch his back, but nobody on the Giants offense is gonna go after Ronde. None of the Giants really took issue with Barber's comments: "They haven't been winning so pretty, either. There's only one Patriots. That stuff doesn't really do anything for me." Brandon Jacobs said...

As if you needed any more incentives to attend the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Opening Playoff Game against the New York Giants... The Organization is supplying every Fan who enters the Stadium with a Battle Flag : These tattered Flags were used during the Bucs 2002 Superbowl Run and have ever since been a staple of Buccaneers Playoff Football. Bucs LB Derrick Brooks had the following to say about the Flags in the Stands: "Let's make it loud; let's make it proud," said Brooks. "Let's wave those red and white flags and go out and get a victory. We need Buc's Fans to get their asses in the stands" - Buccaneers.com Okay so Derrick didnt really say that last line up above, but if you're a Bucs Fan in the Tampa Area you really don't have a reason to not be at the game.
