Jeff Garcia: PLEASE SHUT UP!!
2008-06-05 12:26:00
My goodness, Bucs QB Jeff Garcia keeps going on and on and for what? Check out his latest statement courtesy of Sirius Satellite Radio: "For me to go into this season and if it doesn't work itself out, if a contract is not presented as far as a renewal and a chance to finish my career here, then I will seriously think about . . . what my alternate options may be. It may come to not even playing football anymore. And I'd hate to even say that, but I feel like when you mistreat people there comes a time when it doesn't matter how much money you're going to be paid. If you're not being treated the right way it's going to lead to some drastic decisions and those decisions may just take me away from the game." - from "The Man" Stephen Holder of the Bucs Beat Is this guy serious? No really, he can't be!! What kind of appreciation are you looking for if it "Doesn't matter how much money you're going to be paid" ... I'm starting to dislike this guy again. Reality check, although ...

B.J. Askew played hurt last season
2008-06-04 13:00:00
It's stories like this that shed light on situations, I as a fan had no idea even existed.. Last season and up until I read Anwar Richardson's Q&A with FB B.J. Askew, I could never grasp why the Bucs sparingly used Askew in games. Whenever Askew touched the ball he made something happen on a consistent basis. Granted he only had 18 receptions for 175 yards and ZERO touchdowns, but he appeared to be a gamer in the instances I saw him touch the pigskin. And so I questioned from week to week as to why Askew didnt get increased touches. He didn't get those touches due to a season long injury "It was tough. Every game, I didn't k:now if I could make it or not. I pushed myself out there. I knew if I could get in a uniform, I could make it through." Askew said. - from Anwar Richardson of the Tampa Tribune I knew he had an injury, but I had no clue it was a week-to-week issue for Askew. It's crazy how one little piece of information can change one's opinion. This same situation happen...

Madden '09 Ratings unleashed!!
2008-06-03 13:00:00
Check out the screen shots below for the Bucs projected Offensive and Defensive Madden Stat lines.. Offense: You know Garcia?s gotta be pissed about that 89 Rating, he probably see?s himself as a 97 or 98 I?m not sure I want to see Simms? or Griese?s Ratings if the recently released Gradkowski came in with a 74 Graham an 84? Maybe I have a higher opinion of him, they?re probably dead on An 88 for JOEY GALLOWAY!! Come on now, the man had over a 1,000 yards!! At the very least he?s a 91. He?s old, but not 88 old I?m not sure I want to see DJax?s rating if Clayton is rocking a 78.. ugh I know I?m bitching, but if Joseph is a 93, Faine?s gotta be up there, an 88? I love that Dunn gets a 99 as the 3rd Down RB, way to go EA? umm Defense: Marques Douglas as the starter opposite Gaines Adams? Really.. See Greg, you didn?t even impress EA, try again brother Speaking of Greg White, an 83? Okay R-E-S-P-E-C-T that?s what Derrick Brooks (93) and Ronde Barber (92) got from EA Sports an...
The Buccaneers CUT a QB!!! See Ya Later Bruce Gradkowski!
2008-05-31 05:12:00
Today the Bucs released QB Bruce Gradkowski. Better to do it now to give the kid a chance to catch on somewhere else. This leaves us with only 24 QB's left on the roster. JScott: I love the 24 QB's comment, hilarious. I don't know about you guys, but I'm shocked by this move. Not that it shouldn't have happened, but that it happened so soon. I think its great. Obviously it sucks for Bruce, but its the thing to do and like my man above said, it gives him time to find another team if there is such a thing. I can't believe Chucky let one go... now let's hope he doesnt miss the congestion and add another QB... It's not looking to good for Simms: Garcia, Griese, McCown, Johnson.... Simms. I'm pulling for Chris to beat out McCown, but its going to be tough. He's got the ability though..

Gaines Adams to admit he has a bad habit
2008-05-29 00:15:00
Buried in a Bucs Beat post about nothingness Tampa's four-strong who remain from 2002's Super bowl Roster, St. Pete Times writer Stephen Holder hints to an interesting disclosure from Gaines Adams : "You might want to check out tomorrow's story on Gaines Adams in which he makes a pretty honest admission about a bad habit of his. You'll see what I mean." - Stephen Holder of the St. Pete Times If that doesnt get your heart pumping I don't know what will, please note the sarcasm.. What a slow off-season. At any rate, be sure to check-in and see what Adams owns up too. I'm also working on getting the poll up for the Bucs Ring-of-Honor.. in time, in time

Pittman signs with the Denver Broncos
2008-05-28 15:00:00
Former Bucs RB Michael Pittman has finally latched on with another club: After six seasons with the Bucs, Pittman will resume football activities for one year with the Denver Broncos . I know alot of you enjoyed Pittman, but I have to be honest, I never liked the guy. I thought he was a poor mans Eddie George, with a Big Poppa Pump flair.. He had no field vision, seemed to always run into the backs of his blockers, and would fall down from the slightest contact, sometimes a blade of grass would trip him up (Eddie George esque). I hope he does well in Denver, but I give him a year or two and then he'll become a professional wrestler or open a strip club..

Tampa Bay Bucs Receiving Corps as fragile as ever?
2008-05-28 13:00:00
Going into Last Season our Wide Receiving Corps was one of the (if not the) weakest in the league.. Fast forward to present day and that verbage continues to ring true as evidence by the Bucs bringing in not one, not two, but three more Wide Receivers to audition for starting jobs... This is getting ridiculous The Bucs have invited old man Eric Moulds, old man Eddie Kennison, and no-name Bryan Gilmore to become Tampa Bay Buc Wide Receivers... eh. This doesnt bode well for the current guys on the roster. Dexter Jackson will certainly bring some excitement to the table, but who else will show up? Clayton? Stovall? Bryant? At least Galloway and Hilliard will come to play It's insanely early, but bringing in these three guys for looks doesnt exude confidence in one's current corps of Receivers, yikes...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers OTA Nuggets, News, and Rumors
2008-05-22 13:00:00
Former USF WR Amarri Jackson knows special teams is where he can at least catch on with the Bucs, he's also nervous around the veterans That's something you don't hear a whole lot of, professional athletes being nervous amongst their peers. I guess that happens when a player like Derrick Brooks is telling you how to approach the weight room... If a couple receivers don't shine early on, Jackson might have a better shot to bypass special teams than he realizes Earnest Graham continues to miss Voluntary Workout after Voluntary workout. He's supposedly holding out for more money.. Valrico Rick from the Bucs Beat comments section nails Graham's situation on the head. He compares Earnest to Errict Rhett of Bucs lore.. Rhett had even more success than Graham in one season (amassing over 1200 yards), his agent advised him to hold out for more money, in stepped Rookie RB Warrick Dunn and thats all she wrote... Like Rick points out, guess who's back in a Bucs uni?? exactly Amarri Ja...

Off Topic: Mike Piazza hangs up his Cleats for good
2008-05-21 03:38:00
Catcher Mike Piazza officially RETIRED today... What a sad day today is. Former New York Mets Catcher, Mike Piazza, has officially retired from the game of baseball. Piazza is the sole reason I became a Mets Fan. I grew up following players (Juan Gone, Junior, The Big Hurt etc) and Mike Piazza grew to be my favorite, so it was only natural that I followed him to the New York Mets. Piazza had the sweetest swing I have ever seen. One crack and you knew immediately where the ball was headed. Piazza's farewell to the fan bases he played for: "I can?t say goodbye without thanking the fans. I can?t recall a time in my career where I didn?t feel embraced by all of you. Los Angeles, San Diego, Oakland and Miami - whether it was at home or on the road, you were all so supportive over the years. But I have to say that my time with the Mets wouldn?t have been the same without the greatest fans in the world. One of the hardest moments of my career, was walking off the field at Shea Stadium an...

Greg White still same old "D" despite contract woes
2008-05-20 15:00:00
What has Greg White been busy doing all off-season outside of eating, sleeping, hanging out, getting in shape, working hard, and getting stronger? He's been busy becoming a father. A dog-father of a Boxer Puppie. "Yeah, I got me a little puppy now, a boxer, so I?ve taken a little time for that," White laughed on Wednesday after trudging off the Buccaneers? practice field. - Buccaneers.com Last off-season I wanted to post a story about Chris Hovan and his two dogs but never got around to it, so Greg White bailed me out. You would think Greg White would be a bitter man by all accounts this off-season, but he seems more determined than ever to make this NFL thing work. That only bodes well for the Bucs and Monte Kiffins defense. Greg White on he and Gaines Adams progression together: "We kind of know each other better now and we get the opportunity to work the full year instead of just odd times," White said. "We kind of came together last year when we went in on nickel defense. Then...

Tampa Bay Rookie is officially on a Football Card
2008-05-20 04:02:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Rookie WR Dexter Jackson has finally made it to the big leagues. This past Saturday, the 2nd Round NFL Draft Pick took time out of his day to do a photo shoot for Donruss and Upper Deck trading card companies (What happened to Topps?). He was among several other NFL Draft Picks: Darren McFadden (Oakland), Matt Ryan (Atlanta), Jake Long (Miami), and DeSean Jackson (Philly) etc etc... For DJax this was a surreal moment: "It's crazy," said Tampa Bay receiver Dexter Jackson. "Just awhile ago we were in college uniforms, now we're in NFL uniforms. We're all happy to be here. It kind of sinks in when we're all together, seeing us all in different uniforms." - Frank Tadych of NFL.com I don't know about you, but I'm happy to see DJax flying diving through the air for football card photos. I know Gruden's happy. Jackson missed a bit of time during the teams Rookie Mini-Camp, but should be raring to go during this weeks continuation of OTAs...

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor to get under way
2008-05-18 16:00:00
Back in February I ran a poll on whether this fan base thought the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should have a Ring of Honor , 90% of the fans voted yes to the idea. Several of you have clamored to construct our own Ring of Honor? Well let?s do it. I think we should construct it as such: The organization only spans back to 1976, so rather than picking one player every 8 years as previously suggested, let?s pick player(s) from each decade (in other words segment it to the 70?s, 80?s, and so forth). I know a couple of you worried about having a Ring of Honor of over 50 strong, with a overall team record of (196-303-1) I don?t think we?ll have that problem, though I could be wrong. I?m open to criteria for the Ring of Honor as well, but I figured we would just go on statistics and fan recognition. If you want it more sophisticated we can do that. I wanted to preface this task with the fact that I?ve been a fan since 1996 (13 years old). Prior to that I was enamored with the Cowboys and 49er...

Make-the-Bucs-O-Meter Mini-Camp Edition
2008-05-15 14:00:00
Mini-Camp is upon us (Begins tomorrow I believe) so here's where the players stand thus far:Here's how this chart works: An Up-Arrow means the athlete's stock is on the rise, though it doesn't necessarily mean they are particularly likely to make the club. A Down-Arrow means they aren't doing so hot. Double Dashes means the player is neutral, the player isn't on the rise or down fall. A Lock means the player is starting barring injury or hail fire.Potential Open Spots: Full Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Left Guard, Center, Defensive End, Middle Linebacker, Strong Safety, Free Safety.I'll post an updated list once a week or so, as circumstances encourage me to do so. Player, Position Comment Jeff Faine, C Signed by the Bucs this off-season. Given one of the richest contracts for centers in the league. John Rochford, C -- UnDrafted Free Agent. You would think he would make the team given our lack of depth at the center position. Elbert Mack, CB -- Signed as a...

Buc News: Haye Signs, Garcia Whines, Griese trys
2008-05-14 16:00:00
DT Jovan Haye has finally signed his one year contract reports the St. Pete Times. Haye signed a one year deal for $2 million bucks. He's coming off a breakout season in which he had 6 sacks. I really liked Haye, he seemed to get better as the season went on and he has a fun flare to his personality. Hopefully DE Greg White looks at Haye's contract and follows suit. Neither have the experience or track record to demand much of a pay increase or years.... QB Jeff Garcia is still complaining about his lack of a contract extension. I think everyone outside of Garcia and his agent agree with GM Bruce Allen and his handling of his 38 year old QB's contract demands. It's like Garcia has yet to realize that all the QB's he claims to produce as much as are light years younger than he. Sure production is production, but age plays into that and the Bucs arent going to give him loads of money for one decent season. Garcia's talking about skipping voluntary mini-camps, hopefully he realiz...

Off Topic: If you had to pick a Next Gen Video Game System
2008-05-14 13:00:00
For all the gamers out there, which Next Gen Video Game System would you purchase if you could between the XBox 360, Playstation 3, and Nintendo Wii? Obviously the Wii graphically doesnt belong in this discussion (and it takes a knock for not having Grand Theft Auto IV as a Gaming option), but I'm just curious as to which system folks would purchase out of the three listed above. I recently sold my PS2 on EBay, a shame i know, that means NO more YouTube Madden Videos for me. I thought I was over video game systems, but I'm not and don't think I ever will be or want to be. I hate spending the time playing something so unproductive, but its ridiculously fun. Funny enough, I've only played the Nintendo Wii and its insanely addictive. Grand Theft Auto IV did get a 10.0 rating so the Wii is pretty much on the outside looking in at this point. What's your opinion on these systems? Poll Which system would you buy if you could? XBo...

Pewter Report with a Pewter Petition for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
2008-05-08 13:00:00
Buc 'Em contributer Stixx has pointed out in the past that we should attempt to put together some type of Buccaneers "Ring of Honor" ... the fellas from the Pewter Report have one upped Stixx and started a petition for Bucs Fans to electronically sign in order to get the Franchise to (A) - Put up a "Ring of Honor" around the stadium facing the field with Bucs Greats and their Retired Jersey numbers for all stadium guests to see -OR- (B) Have the Bucs install a "Bucs Hall of Fame" at Ray Jay or One Buc Place "where fans can view historic Bucs memorabilia, watch some of the team?s best highlights and see the Lombardi Trophy". The results of the petition are currently available at the Pewter Report. 81% of 1200+ voters are craving the "Bucs Ring of Honor" and I have to agree with them. It would be sweeet to see some Jersey Numbers and Names hanging around Raymond James Stadium. The Pewter Report plans to turnover the petition to the Buccaneers Franchise at seasons end in hopes of star...

5th Round Draft Pick, QB Josh Johnson, adjusting to NFL Life
2008-05-06 18:00:00
Tampa Bay Buccaneer 5th Round Draft Pick Quarterback Josh Johnson is adjusting to the Pro Life . Surprisingly its a lot like his freshman year in college: "It?s like you?re a freshman," Johnson said, shortly after his first practice as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. "The way I was thinking about it is like you went from high school to college as a freshman. Now I?m just at the next freshman level for me. - Buccaneers.com As expected, Josh was as nervous as anyone of us would have been had we taken the field as a Buccaneer: There was a little bit of extra juice, just to be back on the field," Johnson said. "You?ve got to get your feet wet, but once practice was on, it was football again. It kind of became reality," Johnson said, referring to the first time he pulled on his Buccaneers practice jersey. "Finally today it hit me that I have an opportunity to play for an NFL team, so that?s when it sank in" - Buccaneers.com Josh Johnson on what its like to take the inevitable verbal beating from H...

Head Coach Jon Gruden liked what he saw this weekend
2008-05-06 14:00:00
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wrapped up their Rookie Mini Camp this weekend. Of the 60+ players who showed up for tryouts, only THREE players were told to come back when camp resumes on May 16th. Those players are listed below along with Head Coach Jon Gruden 's take on the 7 Rookies he helped GM Bruce Allen Draft: Gruden on 2nd Round Draft Pick WR Dexter Jackson and 7th Round Draft Pick RB Cory Boyd: "Some of these guys, maybe we?re just doing a little bit more than they?re accustomed to this time of the year. But Boyd is fine. Dexter Jackson was limited here, but I think they understand that they better be ready to go on May 16." Gruden on 4th Round Draft Pick Dre' Moore: "He?s an explosive big man," Gruden said. "I think he?ll be the first to tell you his stamina is going to be an issue. He?s got to get in much better condition, and that?s why we have that factory over there, that industrial, weight room machine factory over there. We?ll get him in there. He is strong, very powerf...

Bucs extend contract to USF WR Amarri Jackson
2008-05-06 01:27:00
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have extended a contract to South Florida Wide Receiver Amarri Jackson reports St. Pete Times writer Greg Auman (Not to be confused with Amen, sorry)... I'm not quite sure why this excites me like it does (maybe its the margaritas in me, long live Cinco de Mayo). Jackson's career has been up and down from the get go. He's notorious for dropping big passes and fading into the background, but i guess i want a receiver (young that is) to succeed sooo very badly that I'm willing to back just about anyone. Not to mention, its nice to add to our team of Jax's: DJax (WR Dexter Jackson), TJax (S Tanard Jackson), and the newly soon-to-be-signed AJax (WR Amarri Jackson)... Welcome to the fray Greg and nice work Bruce Allen, the past couple weeks have been great to be a Bucs fan!!

Rookie Mini-Camp is hard to judge... No kidding
2008-05-03 05:04:00
Word on the streets is the Bucs are having a hard time evaluating their weekend Rookie Mini -Camp . To me, it would be hard enough to watch 7 draftees plus several other undrafted players who have only one day of preparation and have never played together get on a football field and perform for several coaches. The Bucs thought it would be better to magnify that difficulty by inviting the following players on top of the ones already invited: DE Tommy Blake TCU, DT Chris Bradwell Troy, DE Daniel Brooks Jackson State, K Art Carmody Louisville, T Jared Carnes USF, G Jackie Claude Florida State, LB Derrick Doggett Oregon State, WR Wes Doyle San Diego, CB Bryan Flowers Jacksonville, DE Vegas Franklin Miami, CB Byron Garvin Kansas State, RB Lavarius Giles Jackson State, K Chris Gould Virginia, T Floyd Headen West Texas State, WR Bruce Hocker Duquesne, S Anthony Houlis Florida State, WR Amari Jackson USF, CB Brandon Jackson Georgia Southern, S Kyle Jackson Florida, FB Langston Johnson Yale,...

NFC South: NFL Draft selections
2008-05-02 17:00:00
QB Matt Ryan, OT Sam Baker, LB Curtis Lofton, CB Chevis Jackson, WR Harry Douglas, S Thomas Decoud, LB Robert James, LB Kroy Biermann, RB Thomas Brown, CB Wilfrey Fontenot, and TE Keith Zinger Despite the Falcons fans being dismayed on draft day, I think they made a handful of decent selections. Although the fan base wanted line help in Round 1, the public perception of the Falcons needed direction and QB Matt Ryan is the guy to direct the nest. Matty Ice as they call him should provide Bucs fans a pulse worth watching on the Falcons offense outside of new RB Michael Turner. OT Sam Baker was considered a Top 15 Pick at one point, he should help a hoge poge line. Three linebackers drafted seems a bit excessive, but you know those pesky Falcons. S Thomas Decoud is an absolute stud and I'm envious of that selection... This is a solid coupe for the Falcons to start building with... RB Jonathan Stewart, OT Jeff Otah, CB Charles Godfrey, LB Dan Conner, TE Gary Barnidge, DL Nick Hayden, ...

Report Card: Handing out Tampa Bay Buccaneer Draft Grades
2008-05-02 13:00:00
I've been dreading grading the Bucs Draft . It almost feels like homework in a way, so let me go ahead and get this out of the way.. Forget the teasers, I'm gonna throw it out there: The Bucs deserve an B+ for last weekends draft results. The Bucs solved their Cornerback question, added speed to the offense, and got guarenteed hog mollies for both sides of the line. First the obvious, Nobody has questioned Talib's ability, just his character and I think the two year drug-less period he's had proves that he has turned the page. Surely theres no guarentees, as we're all human and susceptible to relapses. At any rate, you could argue drafting Mike Jenkins over Talib, but they're almost one in the same and if you had to wager money, I'm sure you would bet Talib has the better athleticism of the two corners... A ton of fans were angered by the Bucs 2nd Round selection, many felt the pick was a reach. I too would have liked to see the Bucs move up to nab a more battle tested Receiv...

Bucs Rookie Jeremy Zuttah expects to play at Guard
2008-05-01 20:00:00
With the 3rd Pick in last weekends NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected versatile OL Jeremy Zuttah from Rutgers University, a school that produced a 2,000 yard rusher and two 1,000 yard receivers during Zuttah's tenure. Alot of fans were puzzled by the drafting of the o-lineman in the 3rd round, speculating whether its wise to use a 3rd round pick on what appears to be a back-up/role player. The Offensive Line as of right now shakes out as such: LT Luke Petitgout, LG Arron Sears, OC Jeff Faine, RG Davin Joseph, and RT Jeremy Trueblood... Arron Sears and back-up Dan Buenning may want to prepare for a battle for their jobs this off-season: "I think I will probably be an inside [lineman]," Zuttah said. "They have a lot of young linemen, a lot of people playing a lot of different positions. I think one of the things they liked about me was my versatility, so nothing is set in stone, [but] I think right now it is likely I will be inside." - Buccaneers.com Zuttah's definitely no...

Bucs 5th Round NFL Draft Pick: QB Josh Johnson
2008-04-29 05:14:00
Raise your hand if you already created new Bucs QB Josh Johnson via Madden on your Video Game system... Come on don't lie... I was dismayed when Jon Gruden took a Quarterback with that 5th Round Pick , but I was curious as to how the kid's 4.53 speed would play out on my PS2... I gotta say, yeah boy!! Video Game characters aside, this guy has the make-up to be a very special Quarterback in Jon Gruden's system. I know, where have you heard that before. Gruden was quoted as saying in the off-season that he wanted a chance to draft a 1st round Quarterback. Well my man, with Grads and now JJ, that ought to add up to a 1st Round Quarterback.. Hopefully you can mold this guy. I know I look forward to it.What makes Josh exciting? Probably his ability to make plays happen with his feet and his athletic ability to avoid the rush. He's a smart player who does a good job reading the defense and progressing through reads. Despite great legs, he looks for the pass first, and knows when to run...
