Graham Ford appointed as new Indian coach
2007-06-10 11:52:00 After a much of suspense on who is going to be the Indian coach, Graham Ford has been appointed as India's new coach. At first it was almost confirmed that the Bangladeshi coach, Dav Whatmore is going to be the new coach. But dramatically he was ruled out and the race was between John Embury and Graham Ford. It is said that Ford had the support of Indian players including Rahul Dravid, the captain. Ford has been appointed as a coach for 1 year. Graham Ford as a playerGraham Ford played for South African first-class team. But he has not a good record as a player. He just played 7 matches and his game was too poor. But it must be reminded that he is not going to be a player but is going to be a coach. Though Greg Chappell was a very brilliant player, he failed as a caoch. Unlike Greg Chappel, though Ford was a worst cricket player, he has good caoaching techniques.Graham Ford as a Coach Graham Ford became the coach of South Africa as a successor of Bob Woolmer who made a great revolut...
Is Asif turning out to be like Sami and Rana Naved?
2007-06-09 18:59:00 There is no doubt that Mohammad Asif is the best emerging player in present cricket. But the second ODI against Africa XI showed a different Mohammad Asif. It was unbelievale to see Asif known for a very economic bowling getting smashed for fours and being played very easily. He gave away 82 runs in 9.5 overs taking 2 wickets. One was of Morne Morkel, the 11th batsman and the next of AB DE Villers. These two wickets were from good ball but the balls bowled in the rest of the inning were poor. After getting an unprecidented success in the start of the career, is Asif slowly degrading? Mohammad Sami and Rana Naved got the success like Asif in the start of the career and now they are just struggling. Is Asif following the same path or was the match only a bad luck for him. I hope Asif doesn't do the same Sami and Naved did. More About: Like , Turn

Third test, day 2:West Indies shows its native style
2007-06-08 19:42:00 The day two of third test match between England and West Indies and the same style of game shown by the West Indians which they have been repeating in recent days in both forms of game. And it is not other than sudden collaspe after good start. Some West Indian batsmen tried to play confident cricket as a result of which Chanderpaul scored a half-century. But it was not converted to big score. Neither did the others. West Indies were at 216 for 4 with Chanderpaul and Bravo at the crease. Then Bravo went after scoring twenty four. And as usual sudden collaspe happened and the inning restricted to 229. The last six wickets went for just 13 runs. However, some credit must be given to English bowlers especially Sidebottom and Monty Panesar who after a bad start showed brilliant game. Monty took 4 wickets while Ryan Sidebotton took 3 wickets. England started the inning and ended the day with 34/. And as usual Strauss continued to be in bad form and got out on duck. It seems that West Ind... More About: Style , Test , Dies
Which rules does Runako Morton follows in cricket?
2007-06-08 19:27:00 I am just surprised to see the style of game Runako Mort on , the west-indies player plays. Remembering Runako Morton the first thing which comes in my mind is the 32 balls duck in an one-day against Australia in DLF cup. When his team required more than 250 runs to win the game. Morton just played very very... defensive cricket and got out scoring 0 run in 32 or 33 balls. Seeing him playing such a slow game in ODI, I thought he was better suited for test in order to save the wickets and score runs slowly. But I found myself totally wrong when I saw him scoring 35 of 39 balls at an strike rate of 90 . He hit two sixes in the attacking knock. Instead of saving wicket and waiting for a loose ball he tried to hit every ball and got out in the test match. Morton's rules seems to be just opposite in the two games i.e. to play defensive in ODI and attacking in test. I have seen Shahid Afridi who plays attacking in both forms of games, Dravid who plays defensive in both games but not a ... More About: Cricket , Rules , Rule
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and test cricket
2007-06-08 15:51:00 Mahendra Singh Dhoni -Special, Part 5MS Dhoni and test cricket I have already written 4 posts on Dhoni but all were his praise. But going towards his game in test cricket, it doesn't seem he has the potentiality of gaining it. I know he is a great one-day player but I am sorry to say that Dhoni is a poor test player. This is proved his test records. He has played 17 test matches and has scored 810 runs at an average of 33.75 with a highest score of 148. He has scored 1 century and 4 half centuries. But that hundred was on a lifeless pitch against Pakistan in 2006. Almost all batsman had played brilliant in that match. If we remove the inning then his average is just about 28. With that average how can he be told a good test player. His recent form too is not good in test cricket. India should play two different wicket-keepers in test and ODI. Dinesh Karthik is a good test player. He should play as a keeper in tst matches and Dhoni should be dropped from test. When players like VVS... More About: Cricket , Test , Test Cricket

A view of Shahid Afridi is enough for fans to cheer
2007-06-05 20:08:00 The 20-20 match between Asia XI and Africa XI showed the craze of fans for a star player, an aggressive batsmen and the destroyer, Shahid Afridi. Though, Afridi could not bat, crowd cheered for him when he bowled, when he fielded and even when he was shown in the tv screen waiting his turn to bat. Though only one Indian was present in the 20-20 match, there was a respectable attendence of crowd and it seemed it was all because of Afridi. When Afridi bowled, each ball that ripped and fizzed off the surface and beat the bat was cheered with the same gusto as would a wicket. An appeal for caatch out for Odiambo was more from the crowd than the wicket-keeper, Kamran Akman and the bowler as the whole stadium roared at once. Afridi when shown on tv was welcomed by crowd with a great cheer. Afridi bolwed 4 overs and gave away 31 runs taking 1 wicket. Afridi couldn't bat and couldn't receive the crowd's appalause for his sixes but the match went into the hand of Asi XI. Tilakratne Dilsha... More About: Fans , Cheer , View , Shahid Afridi

2007-06-04 10:19:00 Mahendra Singh Dhoni - special, part 3Great inning of Dhoni of Mahendra Singh Dhoni hitting 149 vs India After a great performance for India “A”, Mahendra Singh Dhoni was picked in the ODI squad for the Bangladesh tour in 2004/05. Dhoni did not have a great start to his ODI career getting run out for a duck on debut. In spite of an average series against Bangladesh, Dhoni was picked for the Pakistan ODI series. In the second match of the series, Dhoni in his fifth one-day international scored 148 in Vishakapatnam off only 123 deliveries. Dhoni's 148 erased the earlier record for the highest score by an Indian wicketkeeper. This record was again erased by him with his solid 183 not out against Sri Lanka. Sachin returns to top 15 in test batsmen ranking
2007-05-30 21:24:00 Sachin Tendulkar scored two centuries in the two test matches against Bangladesh and became the man of the series. This achievement of Sachin has helped him to show the old that he can still bat and is a good cricketer though it is against a weak team, Bangladesh. People might not be convinced that he can play the same type of game against tough teams like Australia. But this achievement of him has helped him to come back in the top 15 ranking table in test cricket. He has 672 rating points and is in the 15 place of batsman ranking in tests. But Sachin is far behind in the ODI batsman ranking. He is in the 23rd place with 645 points. Maybe if he could play the series against Bangladesh then he would get more runs and would be in better place. To be in a better place in ODI batsman rankings, he must wait until a series against Bangladesh or Zimbabwe or other weak ones because with others its impossible. Hope that he gets opportunity to play with weak team.In the test batting ranking R... More About: Test , Sachin , Ranking , Turn

But Shahid Afridi has proved himself to be a important member of Pakistan cricket team not only in ODI cricket but also in test cricket. Afridi doesn't change the style of his game in test cricket but plays same type of game which he plays in ODI due to which his strike rate in test cricket with the bat is 86.13, the highest of any player in test cricket. 2007-05-26 16:00:00 Shahid Afridi-special, Part 2Record s of Shahid Afridi in ODI as well as test cricketShahid Afridi makes almost one or more records in each game and even in each ball he plays. He is a brilliant big hitting batsman, a great bowler and a brilliant fielder too. He was introduced in 1996 as a leg spinner to the Pakistani side in absence of Mustaq Ahmed. He could only bowl in the first match he played. But afterwards Afridi amazed everybody as a pinch-hitter and a more batsman than a bowler. I have tried to list some of the world records made by Afridi in world cricket which includes test as well as ODI matches. The records made by Shahid Afridi are:1) Shahid Afridi made a world record of fastest ODI cricket century off just 37 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi, Kenya on October 4, 1996. It was his first inning as his batsman. For about 11 years till now, no one has become close to the record and it seems it wouldn’t be broken. VVS LAxman unlucky again, cannot play the second test
2007-05-25 18:48:00 VVS Laxman is one of the indian players who are completely unlucky in cricket. Despite of a very good performance in test cricket Laxman is not getting chances to play cricket. Same thing happened in the test at Mirpur. Laxman was in the squad but had to return to his country without even playing a single match. I don't find any reason for dropping him. Sri Lanka saves some prestige of being world cup finalists
2007-05-23 18:04:00 After continuously loosing two matches and loosing the series against Pakistan, Sri Lanka saved some of the prestige winning the last match of Abu Dhabi series by 115 runs. Thanks again to the solid knock of Captain Mahela Jayawardene and man in form Chamara Silva who scored 83 and 64 runs respectively for their team to post a total of 296 for nine in 50 overs. It seems that it was the day of captains as Shoaib Malik, the Pakistani captain played a solid knock of 79 including 4 sixes to take his team at least to a respectable score of 181 in the 43rd over. Pakistan had 5 new changes in the team but none of them could work except playing Rao Ifthikar who took 3 early wickets causing more headaches for the Pakistani selectors to choose fast bowlers. Two very unexpected things took place in the game. One was the bowling of Mohammad Asif who gave away 76 runs taking just 1 wicket in 10 overs. Asif, the emerging player is known for his economic bowling but he showed probably the worst of... More About: World Cup , World , Finalists , Rest

Afridi then slapped the second ball for a four. But this was not over. He hit four massive sixes of the next four balls of the over. This achievement of Shahid Afridi has made him second highest scorer in an over in ODI. Earlier in the World cup match against Netherlands, Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa hit 6 sixes in an over of Van Bunge getting 36 runs of the over. But still I regard Afridi’s Achievement more important because Gibbs achieved the feat against a part time spinner of a minnow team, Holland. On the other hand Afridi got this against a world class spinner, Malinga Bandara of Sri Lanka ... More About: Video , Sing , Single , Runs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 |
