Swindal. Strikes three, your out.
2007-03-29 20:54:00 A   ; According to Espn , Future owner of NY Yankees Steve Swindal is apprarently out . George Steinbrenner’s daughter Jennifer, filed for divorce from her husband, Steve Swindal, in the family law division of Hillsborough County Circuit Court on Tuesday. Swindal was arrested last month on suspicion of driving under the influence, and the divorce would end any chance he had of succeeding Steinbrenner in running the Yankees, as Steinbrenner had said he would do in June 2005. Jennifer Swindal filed the papers Tuesday in Hillsborough County Circuit Court’s family law department, Yankees spokesman Howard Rubenstein said Wednesday. Rubenstein said the papers cited “irreconcilable differences.” … Reached by telephone, Swindal said he didn’t want to comment beyond the statement or address his role with the team. “Although their marriage is dissolving,... Bruney toughs out setbacks
2007-03-28 22:04:00 Glenn Giangrande of YesNetwork , In His article He talks about Brun ey’s overcoming injuries and illness. Bruney had excellent spring so far with 1.50 ERA and 13 strikeouts over six innings. "I used to throw the ball 100 [mph], and I really didn’t have a clue where it was going," Bruney said when discussing his career-long struggle with control in a recent interview with YES. "The hardest part for me is to try and repeat my mechanics. I’m still working on that to this day. I’m out there every morning at 8:45 [a.m.] doing extra work trying to get this thing licked, but it’s going to be a process I’ll need to work on all the time." "Being around ‘Mo’, you learn something new every day," Bruney said. "I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from him is how to carry myself, how to go about my business, take care of my body … and just be ready every day. I mean, he comes down, he&rs... The left-hander increased his team-leading strikeout total to 19 with four whiffs. He walked just two, though he insisted after the 87-pitch outing that his changeup needed more work. Reliever Brian Bruney struck out three in one inning. Yankees at the plate: Alex Rodriguez hit his third home run of the spring in the first inning, crushing a drive beyond the left-field wall for a three-run blast. Doug Mientkiewicz added a two-run double in the fifth, just his fifth hit of the spring. Robinson Cano also had a double for New York. Update on Rocket
2007-03-26 05:38:00 Update on Rock et - No rush on roger In her Kat O’ Brien of Newsday says Don’t expect Roger Clemens to rush to the Yankees’ rescue. Clemens said earlier this month he won’t decide whether or not to pitch this year until May. In an email this evening, Clemens’s agent, Randy Hendricks reiterated that: "Our time frame will not change. It is the entire point of shortening the season." I guess Ross Ohlendorf or Steven White could be viable options until Yankees Rocket returns. What are your thoughts? More About: Update
Update on Wang’s condition
2007-03-25 17:51:00 Update on Wang ’s Condi tion In Lohud’s Blog, Peter Abraham said Wang’s is making miracle recovery For a guy supposedly out until late April, Chien-Ming Wang looked pretty healthy this morning. The Wanger was out on the field at 9:07 a.m. and played catch with Ron Guidry for 13 minutes. He made 70 throws, most from a distance of 120 feet. And he was throwing from a semi windup and putting some zip on the ball. “I don’t feel anything,” said Wang, who has a slight tear in his right hamstring. “Yesterday I felt it when I walked. Today, nothing.” Brian Cashman said the team will be cautious and place Wang on the DL to start the season. But that can be backdated into spring training, so Wang could back earlier than initially expected This is a good news , I expect Yankees being careful and cautious with him, since He’s ace of Yankees. Welcome back Roger?
2007-03-25 14:37:00 Ny Post ,Kevin Kernan says Yankees must sign Clemens than The Redsox. The recent injuries with Wang’s and Andy’s back spasms. "There is no time to waste. Circumstances dictate immediate action. The Yankees need to play their best hand and get Roger Clemens back in Pinstripes. All the plans, all the moves are meaningless without an ace. As Cashman walked off the field after batting practice, I asked him if he has had any recent contact with Clemens’ agents in light of the Wang injury and Andy Pettitte’s troublesome back. "They know we’re interested," Cashman said. Clemens not only is the Yankees’ best option, he is their only option. The Yankees need to get Pettitte to send the following text message to Rocket: Come home to Pinstripes, old man" I agree with Kevin, I hope Roger comes back and pitch for Yankees once again. Pavano a possible Opener Day starter?
2007-03-24 22:19:00 Pavano a possible Open er Day starter? In Her Blog, Kat O’brien of Newsday says There’s possiblity Pavano’s opening day starter? What do you guys think? There is a real possibility Carl Pavano might be the Opening Day starter for the Yankees. Joe Torre basically ruled out the possibility of Mike Mussina making that start, as he started today and would have to pitch one time on short rest. He also ruled out Andy Pettitte, as Pettitte has been out since Monday with back spasms and won’t be ready to start until Thursday or Friday. Kei Igawa is highly unlikely to make his first major league start on Opening Day, and that leaves only Pavano or Jeff Karstens, who was not even going to make the rotation until Chien-Ming Wang got hurt. I’m hoping Rocket should be The opening day starter rather than Pavano. More About: Arte , Start , Star , Tart
Wang headed to Disabled list.
2007-03-24 17:39:00 -9:30 am - I just heard a news from Sweeney Murti from Wfan about Wang and He said Wang is out at least three weeks and He will be on the DL at the beginning of season. They said that injury is kind of serious. -10.30 am - Kat O’Brien Newsday blog, She confirms Wang’s is headed to the Dl. Chien-Ming Wang is headed to the disabled list with a Grade 1 hamstring pull (the least severe grade). Terrible news for the Yankees, for whom he was perhaps going to be the Opening Day starter. The target date for him to return is late April. Wang said, "I’m very, very sad. I hope it will get better and I can go back to New York." Wang sustained the hamstring pull yesterday while running for conditioning. The Yankees initially called it a cramp, but they must not have believed that. They sent him for an MRI yesterday afternoon. Wang said he felt it pop at the time. GM Brian Cashman said: "You don’t want somethin... More About: List , Disabled , Head , Bled
Rotation fragile - Wang’s down with cramp
2007-03-23 21:59:00 In Her Blog, Kat O’Brien of Newsday Wang’s suffered a cramp. Rotation fragile — Wang down with cramp Anyone need a reminder how fragile a starting rotation can be? Probably not, but Chien-Ming Wang was shut down for today after he "felt something" in his right hamstring while running this morning. They’re saying a cramp, though it could be a hamstring strain. That’s not good news, when Andy Pettitte has been out for several days due to back spasms. Although Joe Torre had not yet named an Opening Day starter, evidence seemed to be leaning towards Wang. Now we’ll see. Wang is not being sent for any tests, so they must not think it’s too bad. If people had been told at the start of spring training that two starting pitchers would have health problems in the final two weeks of the spring, everyone would have predicted Pavano would be one. Amazingly, he’s healthy though. I hope Wang’s will be alright and be ready for... More About: Agile , With , Ragi , Down
The Yankees lose 3-2 to the Pirates
2007-03-23 21:56:00 The Yankees lose 3-2 to the Pirate s Head to Mlb.com for full boxscore. Darrell Rasner had strong outing today against the Pirates. He allowed seven hits, one unearned run while fanning five. Sean Henn continue to impress Joe and Yankees coaches .Sean Henn came in with a runner on first and two outs in the fifth and got Jason Bay to pop to second. He stayed in the game and retired the side in order in the sixth. In six appearances this spring, Henn has thrown six hitless innings with two walks and four strikeouts. I think Henn should make 25 man roster. Good Bye Villone, Hello to Henn. Hideki Matsui had an RBI single in the fourth, while Bronson Sardinha had a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning to bring New York within one run. The Yankees had two men on base in the ninth but were unable to score and tying run across the plate. Colter Bean took the loss after allowing two runs in a three-hit seventh inning. Peter Abraham says Villone on bubble; Beam back to the minors
2007-03-23 18:08:00 In Lohud’s Blog, Pete r Abraham says Villone on bubble; Beam back to the minors Initially when I saw him throw earlier in the spring it look like he was ahead of last year,” Torre said. “But after watching yesterday and a couple of other outings, it looks right now that he’s trying to impress by creating more velocity. But it’s what it is. Last year we certainly didn’t see the velocity until we got into the season. He is the same guy we see here this spring. Which means we have to make a decision.” Torre said he has been impressed with LHP Sean Henn, who is far more effective as a reliever than he was as a starter. “He’s much improved, he seems much more relaxed. Villone aside, we certainly have Sean on our radar,” Torre said. There are two other considerations in play. Henn has another option (based on minor-league DL) time and Villone’s contract guarantees him $2.5 million if he makes the team. So they can demote Hen... More About: Back , Bubble , Peter
Another Alex trade rumor
2007-03-21 18:20:00 Another Alex trade rumor Thanks to Mlb Trade Rumor s website and Halos Heaven Blog The Los Angeles Times speculated yesterday that the Angels could be a frontrunner for Alex Rodriguez, obstensibly in the upcoming offseason. Bill Shaikin speculated that such an acquisition would make Orlando Cabrera the odd man out. On the heels of that story comes an intriguing trade rumor from Halos Heaven. Yes, it is a blog, but I have known the author for some time and can vouch for the authenticity of his sources. He says Bill Stoneman and Brian Cashman have a tentative plan in place where the Angels could trade Dustin Moseley, Jose Molina, and Jered Weaver for Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees will not accept this Stupid trade. Who will replace Arod playing at 3rd then? More About: Other , Another
Baseball not just about haves and have-nots
2007-03-21 17:09:00 Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports notes that revenue sharing and competitive balance in baseball is better than ever. While MLB’s competitive-balance problem never will be fully resolved, it also never was as dire as Selig made it sound while jockeying for position in labor negotiations prior to the 2002 agreement. Those execs have figured it out: Spending money does not ensure success. Wealthy teams such as the Yankees, Red Sox and Dodgers value young players as highly as low-revenue teams such as the A’s, Twins and Marlins. The Yankees, in fact, reduced their payroll last season and figure to be at approximately the same level this year The difference, quite frankly, is that the Yankees stopped winning World Series, altering the perceptions of those who believed the sport was dominated by big-money teams. Seven different clubs have won the past seven Series, going back to the Yankees’ last title — and fourth in five years — in 2000. Neither of the past two S... Making his 2007 Grapefruit League debut after a right oblique strain suffered Feb. 26, outfielder Bobby Abreu went 0-for-3 with a strikeout. Yankees on the mound: Kei Igawa turned in arguably his most impressive outing of the spring, finding better command and limiting Philadelphia to two hits through five innings. The 27-year-old walked three, struck out three and had a little help from his defense in a 65-pitch (38 for strikes) effort, with two double plays, including an 8-6-3 twin killing that ended the second. Beefed-up Karstens trying for No. 5 spot
2007-03-20 13:40:00 Antony Mccarron of NyDailynews says New Look Jeff Karstens is trying for No. 5 spot . Jeff Karstens, Mariano Rivera says "has tremendous potential," has helped create a rare rotation contest this spring in Yankee camp, a place that usually holds competitions only for less-significant, workaday jobs such as backup catcher. "I thought for sure the first two were gone and then the third went farther than any of them," he said. "They were playing wall-ball out there, pretty much." Still, Karstens impressed Joe Torre by not collapsing when he started to get hit. "During the season, you’re not going to be perfect all the time," Torre said. "He didn’t blow sky-high, that’s important." But Igawa has another chance to impress tonight when he starts against the Phillies and he certainly is the favorite to make the rotation. Asked if Karstens would be in if he outperformed Igawa the rest of the way, Torre sai... More About: Spot , Beef
Yankees lose to the Bluejays 9-1
2007-03-19 20:49:00 Tough Day for both Miguel Cairo and Chris Britton. Miguel Cairo did a horrible job in LF today, He had error that a ball bounce off his glove that was called a double. Then he caught a pop up and threw wildly trying to double a runner off first. Cairo also popped to short in his first at-bat. Why Would Joe torre play and put Cairo in Left field when He can’t play that position very well? Iguess this is Torre’s answer to not having Bernie as a 5th outfielder? I don’t want to see Cairo in the OF during the regular season unless it is an absolute emergency, and hopefully, we have a 20-run lead when it happens. It’s Cairo and Britton Fault. And that’s why the O’s were willing to do that swap with Yankees ..Basically Britton’s batting practice. He’s horrible and Bum..I hope He doesn’t make roster spot in the bullpen… Good Job, by Cashman getting this guy and trading for h... More About: Blue , Jays

2007-03-18 17:15:00 Today’s Newsday Article, Kat O’Brien writes that Cano ’s has full of promise and full of energy, too, as he tries to build on excellent ‘06 season. The Yankees realize that Cano could continue to improve as a player without his numbers offering proof. They want to make sure he understands that as well. Manager Joe Torre said being around the second baseman daily should allow them to keep tabs on Cano and act quickly if he becomes fixated on numbers."You see if somebody’s forcing the issue," Torre said. "I don’t think he’s doing that. We talked to him about several things, including his contract. He seems to just be out there having fun."Regarding hitting above .340, Cano said with a smile: "I don’t think that’s going to happen again."Cano receives much more fan mail now than he did a year ago. Abreu OK after BP, could play Thursday
2007-03-18 14:36:00 The NyDailyNews, Antony McCarron writes that Abreu could play Thursday .Bobby Abreu took batting practice on the field yesterday for the first time since straining his right oblique and, after a wary first few swings, completed the workout with no problems, giving him two consecutive days of painless hitting. "He even had a couple semi-check swings," Joe Torre said. "He had a full session and he didn’t look like he was favoring (the injury). Once he felt comfortable, he was fine." The Yankees are hoping Abreu can return to game action Thursday or perhaps earlier, which would give him roughly 10 days of spring games. But Torre doesn’t plan to rush things with the 33-year-old outfielder. "You’re going to go slow even during the season," Torre added. "A setback is usually a pretty good setback, but you never really know for sure till you play in games. A check swing is something you can’t practice." More About: Play , After
Pettitte was strong, Pavano’s shaky in Yanks 3-2 loss
2007-03-18 00:51:00 Pettitte was strong, Pavano’s shaky in Yanks 3-2 loss In an article from YesNetwork, Associated press reports Pettitte was strong in his outing today and Pavano’s shaky in Yanks loss. Carl Pavano is seeking the consistency Andy Pettitte displayed. Pettitte pitched five scoreless innings before Pavano tossed three shaky ones in the New York Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. "I definitely felt a little funky out there," Pavano said. "I didn’t feel very consistent. That’s what spring training is for. You go through that and you go through the same things during the year." "He may be just a little flat right now," Yankees manager Joe Torre said. "It’s progress. It’s steps forward to me." Springing ahead without Bernie
2007-03-17 14:26:00 In an article for the DAILY NEWS, ANTHONY McCARRON reports the chances of Bernie Williams donning a Yankee uniform this season have dwindled to "a very, very long shot," Joe Torre said yesterday. "Only because spring training would’ve been so important for him and for us, to put things together," Torre added. Williams has not returned the two calls Torre made at the beginning of camp, so the only closure the Yankees have had is Williams’ silence. Torre doubts that his old center fielder will play for another team. "That doesn’t mean it won’t happen, but if he was going to, I think it would’ve happened already," Torre said. Torre said he plans to call Williams again, though it will be more social. "This spring was all about business," Torre said. "Any calls I make will be of a personal nature. I don’t want to lose that." I feel sorry for Bernie, He’s been a great Yankee. There&r... More About: Spring , With , Ring , Head
