Tax Day Ramblings
2009-04-17 19:11:00
My taxes have long been done & the refund long been spent, so for those of you still scrambling, very unfortunate, great day to be fishing.  Speaking of spending money, I recently bought a new Shimano Curado E7 & 2 new Shimano Stradic 2500 spinning reels.  I bought the Curado, because its new, from Shimano and I just had to have one.  I bought the new Stradics because I needed one new reel and I have heard that the new features on these reels almost eliminate line twist and wind knots and that will pay for itself come tournament time!  Fortunately for all of you, spending all that money has caused me to dig a little deeper and list a ton more stuff on my Bass Fishing eBay Store.  I have listed 4 Shimano reels (Stradic Mg, Calcutta, Castaic & Corsair), plus a ton of tackle (Sebile, Berkley, Jigs, etc.). The weather has been beautiful the past two weeks, so I have had the boat out once briefly and stopped 3 times from shore to fish for some cr...

Old Guys still getting it done!
2009-04-10 19:08:00
Seems like every time you start hearing guys talk about how professional bass fishing has become a young man's game, then we have a weekend like this last weekend.  Tommy Biffle lays down a convincing win at Wheeler and Guido Hibdon use his wisdom to top a 200 boat field at Lake Eufala.  While these guys are not competing for AOY titles anymore, they still prove at any given tournament they are a threat to not only make final cuts, but bring it all home!  The most exciting part of this, is that you may have a lot longer then you think to chase down your dream as a professional tournament angler.Over the past few years, Denny Brauer, Guido Hibdon, Paul Elias, Tommy Biffle & David Fritts have all won tour events, some of these guys have won multiple times.  This definitely is one of the many things that makes bass fishing exciting to follow and what a lot of avid bass anglers can relate to.  One thing that seems apparent, is that when these guys do win, t...

Lake Wheeler Fantasy Fishing Group Winner!
2009-04-07 19:06:00
Congratulations to Brad Veech from MN, he was the highest scoring member of my Bassin' Blog group for ESPN Fantasy Fishing at Lake Wheeler event.  Not sure if most of the members of both my BASS & FLW group, but I am mailing a most of my prizes to MN & WI, maybe we just have too much time on our hands with the frozen water and closed bass seasons....  Brad had a nice event and slid up the group standings aways, lets see if he can keep it going and catch our leader J Mayer.Brief email interview with Brad and this is what he had to say on his strategy:"The team I put together for Wheeler was predicated on the lack of points scored at the previous event. Looking at the empirical data available for the anglers strengths on this type of lake at this time of year & geographic proximity to Wheeler I made the necessary changes to my lineup. All the while focusing on the upcoming events to try and get a quality angler at a lower price that will...

Interview with Kim Bain-Moore
2009-04-02 20:45:00
I was recently approached to do an interview with WBT pro and recent Bassmaster Classic qualifier Kim Bain-Moore .  I thought this would be a fun interview, so I teamed up with John Haynes from Bass Fishing the Midwest and the rest is history!  I think you will enjoy, just click on the player. This interview can also be found on iTunes.Below is a sumarized view of the interview for those that do not or cannot listen to the PodCast.  Trust me the text does not do the Audio justice!  I shortend & eliminated a few things from the text, because it was just too much typing.Bassin Blog: John & I pride ourselves on doing our research about guests, we think we found a nugget that may have been overlooked and not really talked about, we have reason to believe that you fished the most recent Bassmaster Classic on the Red River and are actually the first women to do so, is this correct? Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Wheeler
2009-04-02 20:45:00
First off, wow I had no idea Wheeler was this week until I got my Fantasy Fishing email reminder from ESPN to make my picks; usually I am much better then that, kind of caught me off guard.  So lesson #1, go into your account and click the box that says you want a reminder, it works!  Also, if you have not done so lately, click on the tab that say "Renegotiate Salaries", if you have Ike on your team, you will get $.5 of cap space back after last weeks debacle at Dardanelle.  That is something you should do after every event!Lake Wheeler is a TVA impoundment, has good grass as well as all kinds of channel swings, shell beds and every other submerged structure an angler could ask for.  Sounds like things are shifting towards post-spawn in this area now.  That would setup great for your deep water structure guys, they can get in the right area and catch fish staging, and might get both coming & going.  I am sure there will be a couple sight fisher...

Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Dardanelle
2009-03-26 13:37:00
Lake Dardanelle is once again much different then Amistad, but probably a little similar to the Red River classic site, so if you have guys on your roster from that event, maybe think about keeping them.  Lake Dardanelle is kind of hybrid body of water that is kind of lake, kind of a river, so keep that in mind.  For the most part, from what I read, its a fairly shallow fishery.  Based on what I have read & seen of this fishery, probably a power fishing technique will win.It also seems that on river systems, home field advantage can be a little more important.  Guys like Scott Rook, Greg Hackney & Kevin Short have done real well in past tourneys on different sections of the Arkansas River.  I think it has to do with these small little quirky spots and trees and stuff like that, seems like you can bank on some of these spots for a few key fish in tournaments, that looms large in a tough bite, as reported right now.  It also sounds like there coul...

Don't Wait
2009-03-24 19:34:00
As I drove home last night, at times, driving rain, I thought to myself bring on the rain.  Sure it was tough to drive in at times, but warm rain really melts ice, and I need open water bad!  Plus most of the lakes I have drove by of late seem pretty low.  I thought we had received a lot of snow this year, but it does not seem like much of it ended up in our lakes, guess it evaporated instead of melting and going into our lakes.Regardless, my boat is now ready as soon as the water opens.  The guys out at Extreme Marine did a great job, they always do.  I would not drive from Lakeville to Andover to get my boat worked on if they were not good.  My recommendation would be to put some of your tax rebate to good use (don't waste it on some big TV) and give your outboard a tune-up for preventive maintenance.  Easier to catch something before it breaks and takes out something else with it, plus you will have that peace of mind when you do go fishin...

You may or may not have noticed the new Twitter feed on the left sidebar of my Blog.  Before you judge, I never though I would actually Tweet either, but I started looking into it and basically it seemed like a cool way to have a mini-blog update tool.  So my main reason to have the Twitter Feed on the Bassin' Blog is so that I can give more short & quick updates using that.  Its also really easy to do from my phone.  I still kind of feel like a Twit for adding it, but what the heck....I hope to give quicker tournament results and other bass fishing notes via this new feature.  So if you are not a subscriber (we are at 88 email subscribers), when you stop in to check the blog for new entires, glance at the Twitter feed as well.  If you are using Twitter, you can follow me there as well at - http://twitter.com/HellaBassI will have my Lake Dardanelle picks for Bass Fantasy Fishing posted as well before Wednesday.RichLindgren.com Bass Fishin...

Congratulations to Jason Mayer from Indiana, he was the highest scoring member of my Bassin' Blog group for ESPN Fantasy Fishing AGAIN!!!.  Someone needs to step up at Dardanelle, take Mr. Mayer down a notch or he is going to run away with the overall title as well, just kidding, Jason is doing a great job   Jason has not won any BASS prizes, but he is cleaning up here and likely scored some Tackle Warehouse group prizes.  He is 16th overall on the total site right now.Brief email interview with Jason and this is what he had to say on his strategy:"I kept the Skeet, Ike, and Hack from my Classic line-up.  Then I just did some research on the web and ended up picking up Short and Williamson."For Jason's efforts, he has won a SWL Recoil Rig Field Kit, another decal & another promo code, guess he will have to give that promo code to a friend, because he already used it for SWL Expedition Kit, so he is set on Spinnerbaits & Buzzbaits!!  I think th...

Iacnonelli & Walker set the pace
2009-03-15 19:10:00
Couple notes from Day 1 on both major tournament tours.Ike bags giant donkey of a bass, that weighed almost 13lbs to take the lead at Amistad, he also had a fish around 8lbs.  Those two fish anchored his 27-09 lb bag.  The weights were off as Amistad goes, but still 9 bags over 20lbs.  Don't think anyone will reach a 100lbs this week, but you never know.  My fantasy team is middle of the pack, but my lowest guy (Bill Lowen) is in 60th, so I got a good shot of my whole team fishing Day 3 which really helps.  Could be doing better if Velvick would have boated fish #5. Photo from BassZone.comHere is a brief update from the guys at BassZone.com and the anglers they got updates from on the water.Weights from the Water on Day 2 as of 12:30 CDT.  I know Fralick had a few fish as well.Evers - 4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10.00 Snowden - 4 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10.00 Bobby Lane - 5 . . . . . . . . . . . ...

Setting an ESPN Fantasy Fishing Line-up for Lake Amistad
2009-03-12 07:07:00
For starters, if you missed the link to this breakdown of the BASS salary cap, click here to read one by BP.Much like the first 2 FLW tournaments are completely different venues, its probably even a greater difference between the Red River and Lake Amistad .  I have fished Amistad both for fun and as a Co-Angler in an Elite Series tournament.  Amistad is a very deep clear canyon lake that is chocked full of flooded brush and a good amount of hydrilla grass. The one nice thing, is that BASS has been coming to Del Rio for the last 3 years near this time of the year.  So you got a solid comparison to work from, but its always a little different every time.  Plus you have a handful of new anglers from the Opens that can always make a splash.  In my mind, here are the patterns that could play depending on weather.  Swimbaits, Flipping or Cranking Bushes, deep structure with big worms or football jigs or if timing is right, bed fishing could loom large.&nb...

Setting a FLW Fantasy Fishing Lineup for Table Rock
2009-03-11 07:06:00
One thing to know for sure, Table Rock will fish much different then Guntersville did, we are moving north so the water will be much cooler and from a lake with healthy vegetation to a lake that may have 4 to 5 strands of grass in the whole system.  FLW has never fished Table Rock at the Stren Series or higher but many events on Lake of the Ozarks just up the road, so you may want to look to anglers that fair well there.  You can also search through old BFL results, but most of those event happened in April or May.  I would also say that guys that fair well on Beaver Lake, could also find Table Rock a comfortable place to fish.Details on THE ROCK:Type of water: highland impoundment of White RiverSurface area: 43,100 acresShoreline: 745 milesAverage depth: approximately 69 feetMax depth: 220 feet Primary structure/cover: docks, ledges, points, chunk rock, bluff banks, standing timber Species: largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bassLength minimum: 15 inches for all sp...

Elite Series Pro MENENDEZ SIGNS WITH RETROTEC
2009-03-11 07:06:00
MENENDEZ SIGNS WITH RETROTEC Retrotec Inc. is very excited about a new partnership with long time Elite Pro angler Mark Menendez." We have followed Mark's career. Mark has done things differently from other anglers as far as his ideas with saving weight on his boat. This saves wear and tear on not just his boat, but on his tow vehicle as well. This saves money for him and also saves energy for the planet. Mark has already found a way to save thousands of dollars every year on his approach of weight control and how his rigs are set up. We are very happy to join him in a new adventure this year. Marks new boat is carrying the Stay-N-Charge Systems. He won't have to worry about his batteries not making it through a day on the water" said Jim Payne.Stay-N-Charge products are designed to take power already generated from the tow vehicleas well as the outboard motors to recover lost power in batteries. This process will keep batteries at a higher rate of charge with less heat build up. ...

Tru-Tungsten Jigs, Bass Fishing Seminars, & Fantasy Bass Fishing Info
2009-03-06 06:59:00
Kind of a clearing house blog entry today.  First of all, if you had read this blog much, you know I catch a ton of fish on Tru-Tungsten bass jigs.  They are a great jig, have many advantages and really catch bass!  Many people ask me where they can get them and often do not want to order them online.  Many of us bass anglers like to touch & feel before we buy, kind of old fashioned in that respect.  After working with Capra's Sporting Goods, they now stock the Tru-Tungsten Bass jigs, they have them out at their store in Blaine and they are priced very reasonably at $4.99, most places charge between $5.39 & $5.99.  So when you are in the area, swing in and check them out, buy 1 or 2, I am positive you will not be disappointed with their performance.Read about many of my Tru-Tungsten Jig success here.If you are looking for something do this Saturday morning, check out these great bass fishing seminars presented by the Minnesota BASS Federat...

Spring Cleaning leads to Tackle Sale
2009-03-04 18:54:00
Last Saturday's Tackle Swap meet inspired me to get into the basement and garage to do some sorting or my gear.  Time to decide which stuff I really use and which stuff could be sold or donated.  The past couple years I have donated a couple totes worth of stuff to youth fishing groups.  As I obtain more gear and tackle, some stuff has to go, most of it never even used, kind of like my wife's shoes   As I came across stuff, it went into 1 of 3 piles:1. Keep & Use2. Donate3. Sell on EbayAs the ebay pile started to grow, I started listing some stuff in my ebay store.  I have more to go, but I have a decent amount of stuff up there now, including a G-Loomis baitcasting rod, Shimano Castaic reel, power craws, jigs and other stuff.  Check it out if you need some gear at a good price, I start all my auctions at $.98 with no reserves, the bidders set the fair price.   I will continue to add more gear, so check back often or save me as a favorit...
